Stayed on 9th September with 2 more couples, most disappointed with our stay, first of all we all booked the same rooms but our room was so small you could just about fit a bed, no wardrobe to hang any clothes just a temporary clothes hanger which fell apart when we hung up our clothes. We booked the hotel because it had a sauna/ steam room etc, the sauna and steam were closed. We could use the pool and jacuzzi but the jacuzzi didn’t work and was absolutely filthy as was the pool. The staff were very rude, we wet in at around 1700 and were told they were closing before 1800 then they turned all the lights off in the corridor. We went for breakfast in the morning and were told their was a table for six, unfortunately this hadn’t been cleared and we stood waiting by the table while the waiting staff cleared other tables but just ignored ours, eventually we cleared it ourselves and managed to scrounge cutlery from other tables. We did mention our problems to the receptionist who wrote it down but I’m pretty sure as I left she threw the paper in her bin.

Few positives and few negatives about our stay. We arrived at the hotel around 11am and tried to check in but obviously this was not possible as we knew the check in was 3pm but we thought we would try anyway. Onto actual checking in at 3pm, we were told our room was not ready as the housekeeping were behind, I personally think this isn’t good enough as 3pm is a late check in time as it is. Staff told us they would come get us from the bar when this is ready, but I had to ask again at 4pm if it was ready. During the 3 day stay we heard numerous of guests complain about the paying for parking, rooms not looking how they are advertised. We also admit that paying for parking shouldn’t be a thing as we are already paying a premium to stay here. However, we thought our room was up to standard and as advertised. We had breakfast both mornings and ate for tea at night one night, we think the food was great and the service was excellent from the staff. The lift had stopped working from the moment we arrived, this was also a very small lift that couldn’t fit more than 4 people in (also suitcases) and our room was the 4th floor. The walls within the rooms are paper thin, we can hear absolutely everything from other rooms. One big negative from us is that the hotel across the road, Britannia hotel, has recently closed down and become an illegal imigrant hotel. They hang around the hotel in small groups and the mess along the street was awful. We did feel safe(ish) but others may not.

I choose this hotel as it advertised sound proofed rooms, a gym and a pool/spa. Not the case for sound proofing, I had a family above me, could even hear them snooring. The Gym was terrible and the Pool wasnt very good either. I would of stayed elsewhere and gone to a proper gym if i knew. Mostly the hotel was done up well for an old building. Room was comfy and hotel staff good. Had to pay £10 for parking which seemed a bit odd though considering.

Most staff were welcoming and friendly, one young lady in the bar was disinterested in guests and the enquiries. I booked the queen's to use the pool, gym, etc. But on arrival they were not in use due to refurbishment. This was not in the info from Expedia when I booked. Also I found the decor tired dark and dingy

The hotel itself is good, the rooms are refurbished,large and clean. The pool however is need of attention. I was there last year while th esp was receiving a makeover. Sadly this didn't extend to the pool area which is tired looking. The changing rooms are awful. They are tiny with only 2 showers and 2 cubicles. Shower curtains don't reach the ground causing leaks, no wet kit bags, or swimsuit dryer and the lockers don't work.

No heating in the room. Had to complain to get a noisy air heater which didnt arrive until after 11pm. Lift stopped working during the evening and i was on top floor. Room was noisy from neighbouring rooms.

Polite and welcoming staff, but the room we were given initially was disgusting. Badly stained carpets, major damp issue and just looked run down and in need of renovation. We were offered a second room, which was marginally better but still in dire need of renovation. The bedding and towels were clean and comfortable and there was a large smart tv. Annoyingly the smart tv apps screen displayed an error and the bluetooth only connected for audio. The shower is also at a height only suited to small people. At 6'2" I had to crouch right down to wash. Our tablelamp was also non-functional. Our room was also noisy at points throughout the night. We could hear the drainage from neighbouring rooms and some rather loud boiler/pressure background hum aswell. As for the shared facilities: The pool was pleasant enough but the jacuzzi water smelt strongly of sweat. Not nice. We didn't dine or have breakfast.

We got an upgrade to a room with a fridge and mini bar and we didn't get that the room was dirty and dust and paint falling of the walls. Our room was not cleaned and there were towels outside rooms on the floor for days.

Unfortunately not as expected, this is not a 4 star hotel and should be re reviewed. The rooms are dirty and outdated. We had issues everyday, worst was the room next to us was smoking, and the smell was seeping into our room which is a health and safety issue considering i had my 2 year old son with me. We wasnt offered an alternative, raised general manager who did nothing, in the evening i re raised and the deputy manager arranged to move us. Still havent had an acknowledgement from our email we raised to them

The room was filthy. Big, substantial stains on the carpet, marks and chips out of the wall, chips out of the bath, suspicious brown stains on the bath panel next to the toilet as well as items of furniture with large stains on. The aircon machine was faulty and was buzzing and clicking all night which really disrupted our sleep. We emailed the hotel with pictures and details but 5 days later have received no reply. Absolutely not worth the £190 we paid to stay there.

The room was very nice but had wooden floors. Not a major problem until the room above with similar flooring was occupied. Very noisy. The Gym is very tired with old equipment. I do dislike arriving to a hotel which I have prepaid for to be immediately hit with a second bill for parking.

Food is great, location is great as its few minutes away from the seaside. The room is modern, clean and neat. Everything was superb. The only down side was the rooms were not sound proof. As me and my toddler walked at the corridor coming back to our room, we can clearly hear people moaning and the bed moving--- clearly they were being intimate to the next level. We can hear as well someone having a shower as we passed by. Would I recommend? Yes if you are staying without children.

The room was recently renovated and spacious. The hotel is only a few minutes walk to the east cliff zig zag trail. They let us extend our stay ( late check out) for £10/hr for a max of two hours. We were disappointed that the spa was booked up the entire time we were there. Staff were friendly and the air conditioning was much appreciated.

Lovely and comfortable , and the lobby and bar is in goood condition but the bedrooms do need tlc . Scuffs on skirting boards and walls , balcony very rusty and tatty furniture .

The property is well located and the breakfast was great, we were very impressed with your Saturday morning gentleman histokh breakfast - he knows how to treat customers. Otter staff members in reception were rude, when guests approach Reception, they should be at least acknowledged even if you can’t get to them that instant, an acknowledgment and a smile and I will be right with you. But to ignore us? Big fail, and so basic. Likewise we asked to purchase a coffee from the proper coffee machine in the restaurant which no one had time to make! Finally, it was inconvenient to have to call down to Reception to turn the air conditioning on in our room. It ate our time for 15 minutes trying to figure out the control box, then all extentions to Reception went to voicemail, so I had to go all the way down to ask then oh yes I can turn that on for you! Why didn’t you do that when we checked in! What a waste of time. It’s a nice hotel and I’m sure it do your best but these basic things would have made our stay great.

Staff very polite but hotel just not up to scratch. Tv screens in rooms gave incorrect information (breakfast menu wrong and said thag spa was out of use) Even though the hotel were aware of this misinformation which i found out on checking out, hey didnt think to tell me on arrival and therefore I did not get to use the spa (one reason I booked the hotel) Breakfast was very chaotic. No instructions on where to sit, buffet, order system. No menu. Cold coffee, hard poached egg vegan sauages dripping in fat, no avacado. The carpet in the room had obviously been hoovered but it just wants clean and the paint job was very shabby.

The hotel was clean and generally fine, but our stay was ruined by a serious issue and poor handling by staff and management. At 2am on the first night, the A/C unit in our room started making an awful, jackhammer-like noise that lasted all night. We couldn’t sleep at all. We reported it to the night manager, who said there was nothing he could do—the hotel was fully booked, and due to health and safety rules, he wasn’t allowed to touch the unit. He said it would be reported to maintenance in the morning. The next day, I spoke to the duty manager, who apologized and told me the night manager *could* have called an on-call maintenance person. He offered us a free dinner and some drinks, but I said that wasn’t good enough—we paid for a night’s sleep and didn’t get one. He said he didn’t have authority to offer more, but the hotel manager Maurizio would call me on Monday. If not, the duty manager (Marco) would call instead. It’s now Thursday and I’ve heard nothing. I’ve called the hotel daily—no one answers, voicemail boxes are full. To make matters worse, the night manager admitted this A/C issue had happened before. When maintenance did arrive, it took five minutes to fix—a clogged pipe that should’ve been cleaned regularly. The hotel has potential, but the lack of staff training, guest support, and basic follow-up from management made this a frustrating and disappointing experience.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Bed was comfortable. Room was average, though it was supposed to be a Superior Double. Balcony needs a lick of paint. Bathroom needs a bit of touch up. Beach is just 5 minutes walk away. Overall okay for the price.

Hi This was a lovely hotel. Inside it has been renovated and a lovely dining area, lounge and bar. The rooms are nicely decorated. Outside lets it down as it needs a good paint. Close to the sea and to the town. I’d stay again

Hotel is in great location - Zigzag walk down to pleasant and quite beach just across the road (barbecue allowed from 6pm!). That’s the reason we stayed at Mercure twice. Last time was great. This time not so much. We stayed in Junior Suite - big room, plenty of space. But it is not sound proof at all - can hear every person coming and going. It’s a pet friendly place (if you got a pet it is fantastic). Unfortunately, we had a neighbour with pet (dog was left alone for couple of hours late evening and got very upset). Hotels always have problems with bathrooms. Mercure bathrooms are a bit outdated or not of good quality. Our bathroom even in Junior Suite was just too small and shower stopped draining on day 2. I think this can be resolved only by property owner not the staff. I popped into restaurant where breakfast was served - very basic full English. It is not worth paying for it (if not included).

Nice enough hotel. Stayed as was away for work. Booked because I had an early start and breakfast was advertised to start at 6:30. Came down early, but no hot food was out. Came out at in dribs and drabs. It all came out at 7:00. Don’t advertise breakfast from 6:30, when it’s nearer 7:00.

Breakfast options were really good. Really enjoyed the range of food offered (eggs, toast, cereals, pancakes, pastries, hot drinks, juices, great selection of spreads, jams honey, marmalade etc.) The additional cost for breakfast was definitely worth it! The room was big and room facilities good, with a good selection of hot drinks and an expresso machine available. Added bonus of having a mini fridge to store drinks in. Only drawback to the bathroom would be that the taps weren’t mixer taps. Apart from that everything else was good, and I would stay there again.
