Pool area to smal very noisy

The rooms smell horribly of mildew. The Mexican restaurant was some of the worst foot we have ever eaten. There are 8 pool chairs total and the other seats are saved for people from the outside who buy day passes. The staff was wonderful.

It's always a great time. Wonderful food, drinks, beautiful rooftop, relaxing massages and hydrotherapy. We enjoyed the VIP amenities at the other properties, fun games, bike riding and close access to 5th Avenue. We'll be back!

Rooms were big and spacious. Noise from the streets were a bit loud, but didn’t ruin the experience. Beach access was pretty close, very short walk. Food was pretty good! Breakfast buffet was great! Wish they had a lunch buffet but Rooftop food was our fav! Only downside was they only had 3 restaurants to choose from for dinner. More options would’ve been nice but not a deal breaker. Staff were friendly. The spa was amazing!

The room was great! Just wish the bar and poll was open later than 10:00 or 11:00

Excellent in most ways. Food quality was second to none. Breakfast was a highlight every morning. Location was great, if not directly adjacent to the beach. The only issue was the music by the pool: it blares in a high monotonous pitch as if it were a night club for 10 consecutive hours. Great to dance, hardly a balm for the spirit if you are ver want relaxation by the pool. It may work for many, this was just too much for us, hoping to just relax.

Modern and pleasant lobby. Friendly service. Unfortunately we had cold showers but this was fixed quickly. Safe didn’t seem to work in the room. Pool area is dance party vibe/couples. Some gym equipment was not working. Free self parking was valet but free. Convenient location. Spacious room with sitting area and small balcony. Fridge and microwave handy! Coffee maker was clean.

Fun place to stay - Rooftop pool has zen music quietly playing until about 10AM, then the DJ arrives & the subwoofers get energized! It’s an absolutely gorgeous view from up there, fun group of people (some day pass guests), a big bar, and kitchen for service to your cabana/table/lounger. Very reasonable & fantastic servers, I had Fransisco Miguel this past week, he was running around for 10 hours straight & superb at remembering every detail - plus a super nice guy! The entire team up there is great, overall the hotel has very good, friendly staff, it’s spotless & affordable - plus about a 1-minute walk to 5th Avenue, 3-4 minute walk to the beach…Mamitas beach club is at the dead end of the street 28. ⭐️⭐️ (2/5) – Disappointing Experience Despite Great Staff and Location I stayed at this hotel for 10 days with the all inclusive package, and while there were a few positives, overall, the experience fell short of expectations. The Good: Gabriel, one of the servers, was fantastic, friendly, attentive, and always went above and beyond. The location is great, and the rooftop area is definitely a highlight with beautiful views. The Not-So-Good: The hot tub was cold the entire stay, which was really disappointing given how often it’s advertised. The pool water was dirty and it didn’t look properly maintained. The “all-inclusive” package isn’t truly all-inclusive, several items and amenities have extra charges, or time limits which wasn’t clearly communicated. The staff overall didn’t seem happy, which unfortunately reflected in the general service atmosphere. Service times were very slow, with wait times of up to 40 minutes just to get a drink. The sauna and spa pool are not included in the all-inclusive package, and to make things worse, the spa pool was also cold. Overall, while there were some bright spots, the poor maintenance, inconsistent service, and misleading “all-inclusive” offering made this stay disappointing. With a few improvements in management and guest experience, this hotel could be much better.

The staff was friendly. The lobby bartenders were great. The rooms were spacious and clean. The gym was decent size, and appropriate for the number of rooms. The hotel was in a great location! You could walk to the beach or to 5th avenue where many of the restaurants are. You could also walk to the ferry terminal to go to Cozumel. For the price paid, the property had great value and we would definitely visit again. The property isn't all inclusive for everyone and you have to opt in to a certain package. There are different packages and depending on which one you pick you'll get a different wristband. What we were entitled to based on our package was hard to remember, but we eventually figured it out. Since the all inclusive was not standard, there are checks that are delivered at the end of each meal (not including the breakfast buffet) that you have to sign and you can't just walk away. We found that to be annoying at times when we wanted to head out and couldn't find anyone to help.

La comida es excelente, la alberca esta descuidada, hay moe y humedad donde te obligan a ir servirte agua para tu cuarto, está excelente no tener plásticos en el hotel, pero mínimo una opción de agua en el frigo bar, libre de plásticos, los restaurantes son top, en especial el mexicano, hay meseros increíbles y otros no tanto, cambiaron de administración en general el servicio se vio diferente al de la primera vez que fuimos, esta fue nuestra segunda visita, no todos los meseros son malos, algunas súper agradables y amigables pero algo en general con el servicio a cliente que si no eres extranjero o pagas en usd te tratan de menos, y no son tan atentos como con los extranjeros, gran lugar pero por el precio ya prefiero rentar Airbnb por cierto el all inclusive ya no es todo, ya hay más opciones de coste extra, lo cual lo hace sentir menos all inclusive

Lobby was nice with big bar... ROOM, BEDDING DAMP, THEN OUR CLOTHES, THEN THE AWFUL SMELL! Unfortunately, we had significant issues with the room we were provided. It was was damp and smelly, the bedding was damp and had an awful smell...mold or mildew present. This created quite an uncomfortable and unhealthy environment, forcing us to keep the sliding door open to air out the space. We could not use the AC as it made the small worse. Despite this, the dampness persisted, affecting our clothing, which remained damp throughout the stay. Neither the phone or TV ever worked; were told no one available to fix. Also, we needed to shorten our stay and contacted Expedia to ask for a change in our reservation before our stay; however, but were told that their attempts to contact the Reef 28 went unanswered. The management refused to reimburse us ANY AMOUNT for the 2 days we paid for that we were unable to use ($875 ) With the long notice we gave, most likely they could have rebooked the room.Although I would feel sorry for anyone who would have booked it. After spending two days at the hotel, and on the way home, I was coughing, sneezing and having respiratory problems. Within 3 days I was put on antibiotics. I have not been this sick for years! Coincidence? Sad experience my Grandson's first visit to Mexico.

Pour un hôtel 5 étoiles je trouve que ce n'était pas le top. La chambre était sale. Dans la salle de bain il y avait encore les échantillons usés des autres personnes avant nous. Les draps n'étaient pas changé car il y avait des cheuveux dans le lit. J'ai été très déçu.

We stayed at The Reef 28 for 7 days & loved every minute of it. It's steps away from both 5th Avenue & the public beach. The eating areas, lobby, rooftop & room were clean! The staff was pleasant & very helpful. If you are planning to eat dinner, you have to make a reservation -- breakfast & lunch are open. What is & isn't included in the all-inclusive package will be made clear to you. Just make sure you're playing attention when they give you the tour! We were able to access the sister resorts which are just as nice.

The only issue i had was the room smelled like mold, ac did not cool, sticky and hot. Otherwise i had no issues

The hotel was beautiful and the staff was fantastic. The restaurants were delicious. I did find myself waking up in the middle of the night due to noise from the bar across the street. My room was cleaned and pretty but had a moldy smell.

Clean room; welcoming, professional and friendly staff. Good food and drinks. Great location.

Beautiful, spacious, clean room. Extremely noisy as a bar was beneath our balcony. Even with earplugs in we could hear the loud music.

Equipe da recepção simpática e atenciosa, quarto grande e espaçoso, porém a cama não é confortável, ficamos em dois quartos diferentes ( trocamos por uma necessidade de infra estrutura) e nos dois quartos os colchões precisam ser trocados . No café da manhã sentimos falta de um café expresso ou regular ( sem ser americano )

Beautiful and very spacious rooms that are clean and have a great view.

Nice, clean rooms. Food wasn't bad. NO private beach. Easy access to public, but it will cost you a small fortune to visit it. The pool was small, crowded, and not very clean. The drinks were terrible. No room service. They stock coffee, but no sweetener, cream, or anything to stir your cup. We spent most of our time at their sister resort, which you have to pay $15 per day each. It was worth it though. There is nothing to do at the hotel. Didn't visit the spa, so can't comment. The staff was friendly and there is easy access to shopping. I doubt I will stay again.

I reallyyyyy enjoyed the Suite. They upgraded me OMGGGG!!! I was truly flattered and shocked. I’ll never stay in a regular room again lol. It was like an apartment. The location is perfect for food, shopping and the beach. The food was “meh” but the service and kindness of staff MORE than made up for that. The bass music on the roof is loud but not intolerable. I already told my family that this property is a 10/10 luxury experience. I would most definitely recommend Reef 28 AND stay here and ONLY here when I come back. Thank you.

Big rooms

Worst experience. We got stolen and the hotel did not take any accountability for it. We left our belongings in our room and our airpods got stolen. Manager did not address this and we had a bad argument. Really bad experience.

Overall, this was the perfect place for my vacation and exactly what I was hoping for. The food was great (with the exception of the Asian restaurant), the staff were outstanding—especially Alejandro, who went above and beyond throughout my stay—and the room was spacious and comfortable. A few small things to note: The pool area showed some wear and tear. The early morning music (around 6am) was extremely loud one day—my room was actually vibrating! The airport transfer on my return trip didn’t feel roadworthy, and I wouldn’t recommend that particular service to future guests. One major caution: be aware of the “free gifts” offered at check-in. After traveling since 2am, I was exhausted and ended up being pulled into a timeshare presentation. It took up half a day of my vacation and felt misleading. So travelers, just be cautious about that part. Otherwise, the resort itself was wonderful and the staff made my stay memorable.

This was my first time staying here and although it was a nice property, I will not be back. The customer service at the restaurants was poor, I attempted to go to the rooftop where I waited nearly 30 minutes without being addressed or assisted, went to the Mexican restaurant right after where the same thing happened as I sat at the bar. I had the all-inclusive package but didn’t utilize it much at all because the service and food was not good. I paid for medium steak that was so tough I couldn’t cut it. I dined at other restaurants in the area where the food and service was top notch. The roof top pool is small and packed, I was never able to use it the 5 days I was there. The only highlight of this property is that I had access to Coco Beach and Reef Playacar which is where I spent a lot of time. If you want a place in a walkable area, this is a good option. I wouldn’t waste money on all inclusive because your alcohol isn’t that at all, you can drink 20 drinks and never feel anything. Visit the sister properties to take advantage of their larger pools and beach, Playacar was such a beautiful property! After speaking with other visitors who were people of color, we all had similar experiences. Wait staff overlook you and will tend to others while you’re ignored. I’m a big tipper but they’d never know because of how I was treated. housekeeping was great, power went out several times over my 5 day staff and no hot water the first 2 days.

The rooftop area was amazing and had a fun vibe to it. The entire staff was the best I’ve ever experienced at a place like this. Francisco was there almost everyday I was there on the rooftop area and he made it fun the whole time. Always provided amazing service and entertaining guy. Ricardo who works in the lobby bar was also an absolute pleasure to sit, drink, and speak with. He provided a lot of good knowledge of the local area and was genuinely great to have as one of the first faces you see walking into the hotel. The concierge desk, restaurant waiters, and cleaning staff were amazing as well. There are too many names to mention. Overall I would highly recommend this as a place to stay if you are looking to stay in Playa Del Carmen.

not a good location if you want relaxation, the property is located right across a bar that plays loud music all the way until 2/3 AM. the upside is that it’s a short walk from the beach. the hotel will try to persuade you to pay for a day pass to the sister properties with a shuttle; which is a short walk away- when in reality it’s for you to go tour a timeshare. the food is delicious in the mexican restaurant, the asian is bland. service is hit or miss, i was lucky with certain servers who were top notch then there are some who don’t even pay any attention to you.

Rooms were clean but both showers were out of shampoo and soap. Staff could have been friendlier, many times walking into the lobby we weren’t welcomed because the entire staff was on their phones, not helping people, standing and on their phones. We stay in Mexico at least once or twice a year and it’s usually odd to walk by any staff and not be created. Food at rooftop was better than the food in the restaurants. When checking out, no one offered to help with luggage and that has never happened any where we’ve been. Think that all goes back to the lack of friendliness.

My second time back. Better than last time. Christian, front desk answered all my questions. Female concierge, I believe her name is Elizabeth, gave great recommendation on places, restaurants, etc. I’ll be back soon.

Very nice hotel, had it all, food was pretty good, roof top was very nice. The music from the neighborhood is extremely loud unt 2am.

Location, high quality + great service makes for a perfect adults only stay!

The property is located off of quinta avenida but perfectly located so that your close to everything while also having some distance from the crazy night life. Every one that worked at the resort was friendly and helpful. The onsite dining and bars were also very good. Great place for couples to go.

The location is fantastic , close to shops, nightlife and very central. The hotel is lucky to have mostly incredible, polite, professional staff - we have to mention Brenda, Antonio and Christhian. All extremely helpful and really tried to resolve the problems we had at the hotel. We had problems with noise and music from The bars opposite the hotel until 5am on first night :( There is no beach with Reef 28 and the private Reef Beach is with an extra charge ,15 minutes away. A couple things…just get the breakfast package, there are far too many amazing places to eat on 5th street to eat the food at the hotel. Secondly if you want to be able to go to bed early also not an ideal place to stay, there are a couple bars surrounding the hotel and they are really loud usually until 1-2am. Other than that, amazing place, very clean rooms and the rooftop bar and pool is awesome!

Pros: great location, staff were greatly , clean, all inclusive. Adults only and accommodated sister resort not having available times for massages, massages available at property were good. Cons: unable to bring food back to your room, no room service, very small pool, not enough seating on top deck, food was okay at best, premium liquor not included, most meals were served lukewarm, some “hot” items weren’t even Luke warm, excursions weren’t explained in detail, weren’t told about exclusions for excursion and time was for excursion was almost 3 hours longer than what we were told.

DJ way too loud on the rooftop. It's the only place you can lay out to get sun... the music is at Dance Club volume for most of the day-with no one dancing. There is nowhere to get away from the loud music...not relaxing for an adults only Hotel. Great chef for the Italian and Asian offerings-good service! The Mexican restaurant items were good however the service was not. Rooms smelled very musty and it was a hassle to get the hotel staff to lower the air conditioning temp to a comfortable level.

The room was really nice and spacious and cleaning staff very polite. We had food at two restaurants. The Mexican one was much better, food was tasty but service was lazy (asked twice for our drinks which arrived after our starter and then had to ask for glasses for the water). The roof garden restaurant had really awful food. Can’t find a positive to say.

Helt greit hotell – verken mer eller mindre. Vi hadde all inclusive, og det leverte dessverre langt under forventningene. Maten var generelt lite appetittvekkende, og mange av rettene var ikke inkludert i pakken, men kostet ekstra. Vin var ikke opplyst som inkludert noe sted – tvert imot stod den kun listet med høye priser. Da vi spurte, fikk vi riktignok husets vin, men med en litt sur mine. Hotellet reklamerer med tre restauranter, men i realiteten er det kun én meksikansk restaurant som holder åpent hver dag. Frokostsalen gjøres om til italiensk og asiatisk annenhver kveld, og på mandager er alt annet enn den meksikanske stengt. Det var også utfordrende å få bord. Minibaren besto av et par bokser brus og én øl – og det var det. Under måltidene var personalet så raske på å rydde at tallerkener ble tatt før vi var ferdige med å spise. Selve hotellet begynner også å bære preg av slitasje og kunne hatt godt av en oppgradering. De ansatte var hyggelige og imøtekommende, men fremstod generelt uorganiserte.

Perfect location, staff and cleanliness. What I don’t understand is why they have an all inclusive package when in reality it’s NOT an all inclusive. I’ve been staying here for the past 5 years or so with my husband but you’ve lost a client. Only half of your menu is included!
