Perfect location, wonderful staff, relaxing heated pool, and Old Vallarta charm. The staff were friendly and helpful. Access to the sister hotel pool was welcome for us, as my husband couldn't get into the pool at the Garlands (the steps were too deep for his limited mobility), but a short walk, and we enjoyed a lovely roof top pool. Jesus was an attentive and friendly bartender, and the desk staff was great. Yvan was helpful and attentive, as were other staff whose names escape me. The location is wonderful. Two short blocks to the beach, and great restaurants all around. Trattoria Nuevo is a beautiful little Italian restaurant with live music. We enjoyed our stay at Garlands very much, and hope to return before too long.

We felt we lucked out staying at the Garland's Del Rio. It has a boutique hotel vibe, with helpful, friendly staff. The hotel is in a great location within walking distance to great restaurants and the beach. The pool area is a bit dated, but nice, and you're also given the option to use the rooftop pool of their sister hotel, just up the road. We'd stay here again!

Great location in the Zona Romantica, staff very friendly and helpful with advice. Pool is not heated, so I didn't use it, jacuzzi was nice. Bkfast was good and find out that if you book directly is included. Bathroom can use an upgrade, no handheld shower head and faucets getting a bit ugly. I'll recommend this hotel.

Wonderfully eclectic and authentic feel. The open air courtyard made waking up lovely, though if you wanted silence I would recommend closing your patio doors and windows since you can hear activity pretty easily. Staff was very kind and helpful. If you want to use the hot tub you need to let them know beforehand so they can heat it up. Location was a close walk to everything without being right in the middle of it all.

Bed was very comfortable. Air conditioning worked well. Staff was incredible. The pool needs missing tiles replaced and needs to be cleaned more regularly. There was always debris and bugs floating on the water

It's not eco-friendly in the sense that there are a lot of air gaps in the windows and door. They have only one person running the hotel so if you get there while they're away from the desk, it might be a bit hard to get them to opwn the door for you.

Very kind staff, easy check-in, room was ready on time. Very nice room, loved the common areas, the pool and hot tub were all very nice. Would definitely recommend and would stay again. Also in a very quiet area but walking distance to all the shopping and foods.

Nice, older, beautiful and intimate place in a great location. There are 19 unique rooms, a few quite large. Staff is limited but helpful and attentive. Smallish courtyard pool is great to swim in mid-afternoon when the sun has passed. There are a lot of steps in the place and no elevator. No restaurant but a limited breakfast is served for a few hours each day. A bar in the pool area is rarely staffed. Drink requests are accommodated when staff is located. Spacious communal kitchen (with coffee in the am), dining rooms/lounging areas as well as outdoor tables in garden next to the river (dry half the year). No AC in common areas. It is close to the Highway 200 northbound bridge which can be noisy at times. No views aside from a section of the river (bed).

The pool is modest, nothing fancy but it’s all you need to cool off after a long day. The pool bar is “honor code” style, take what you need and write it down.The staff are very nice people. Shout out to Rigo, Martha, and Iván. Martha recommended a local beach spot that ended up being our favorite part of our trip. Enjoy the hotel cats as they lounge around. Sit on your balcony and enjoy the live music pour in from the bistro across the river. Sleep with your windows open and let the city soothe you into a slumber. There was nothing bad to say about this hotel. It was an absolutely charming oasis in the middle of the romantic zone in Puerto Vallarta. It’s sister hotel had a gorgeous pool. The staff at both hotels were absolutely incredible. Everything was incredibly clean and thoughtful.

Garlands was a nice property. Our room was clean besides a used soap bar that was left in our bathroom. Liked that it was a secure location once granted access, but a little hard to find when arriving.

I arrived at the Garlands Del Rio hotel with great expectations. After being shown the room they gave me which was similar to a dungeon, they showed be another room, similar but more of a pit. Then they showed me a lovely room telling me that that would be $40 extra per night. We agreed on $30 extra per night and was checked into the room. It wasn't until after I entered the room that I noticed the picture of the room I was in was the category of room I reserved. Where I should've gotten this room in the first place, and then upgraded as my platinum VIP status permits, I received none of that. All I received was an upsell from the very beginning. The front desk representative, Marta was very rude and dismissive of my requests. I asked to speak to the manager and didn't receive a response until the next day when they told me that I could stay in the room that category that I had reserved and they would refund the added upsell expense they put on me to be in that room. Totally put a damper on my and my partners experience and comfort in our stay there. In addition, I found the property extremely rundown, they are so-called hot tub was buckled, delaminating and perhaps dangerous. There was a shelf next to the hot tub, held up by angle brackets with nails and screws protruding almost an inch from where they should be seated for proper connection. Our room was filthy there was a layer of dust on top of the armoire that you could plant in. Sorry, this app denies continuation!

The patio off our room would have been great to use but the outdoor furnitur was uncomfortable and not enjoyable. At check out we had a shocker a U.S. $25 dollar charge for a handtowl that they said was stained. We saw the towel and any other hotel would have used bleach and removed the stain. Fantastic place. The bed and pillows were soooo comfortable; the AC worked great and was quiet. The hostess was super nice, she spoke English well and had great recommendations for food and fun. I had a massage, which was very well done and they even came to my room. Breakfast was very tasty and it’s right on the river so that’s nice too. There’s lots of shopping, dining and night clubs right in the area. I felt safe after dark walking around by myself as a single woman. The ONLY thing I could say I’d change about the room if I could was the shower didn’t have much pressure and there was a sky light in my room, which didn’t allow me to black it out - I can’t sleep in if the room is light, that’s me though... Minor things. I would go back tomorrow if I could.

The rooms are all unique and have lots of windows. the room we stayed in had a domed ceiling with half circle windows that provided an excellent view for the evening thunder storm. The property is lovely but we were staying during the hot time of year so mostly stayed in our room except when exploring the neighborhood. The bathroom for our room had a door but the walls did not go to the ceiling so if you are sensitive to hearing your room partner's bathroom noises that might not be good for you - maybe ask about the room choice when booking.

Our rating is 4.5 stars. Beautiful boutique hotel. Authentic Mexican decor and charm. Very clean and pretty quiet. Wonderful staff. Great location. The only reason we didn’t rate a 5 star is the WiFi and cell signal were spotty but still decent. Everything else was wonderful and we would recommend staying. The sister hotel is just as beautiful and the roof top pool is a must with breathtaking views!

Staff was exceptional and the hotel has such charm - absolutely gorgeous. The pool area was so relaxing and lush. Our room was on the main floor and not as nice as some of the other rooms in the photos but we were only there for one night. We would totally stay there again and upgrade to another suite. A hidden gem in Zona Romantica ❤️

Location is very convenient to shops and bus stops. Staff is helpful and speaks English. Bed was comfortable. Cool near the river. Our main complaints are - room was dark and we the could hear very loud music across the river at night. Loved the resident cats.

My wife and I had a very nice stay (3 nights). The room (Dutchess) was great, with a nice little balcony, comfortable bed, lots of hot water in the shower and it was very quiet. The only real downfall, for us was that we couldn’t get coffee early in the morning. The restaurant opens at 8:30. Lots of restaurants, shops and the malecon very nearby.

check for inefficiency. I don't have reception at night. I sent an email saying that I would arrive late and there was no one at the hotel. I stayed on the street at night with suitcases. the next day the reception said it was my problem. very old room. old dependencies. good pool. There's no one in the bar. good location. I wouldn't go back and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. not worth the price.

Staff was exceptional and the hotel has such charm - absolutely gorgeous. The pool area was so relaxing and lush. Our room was on the main floor and not as nice as some of the other rooms in the photos but we were only there for one night. We would totally stay there again and upgrade to another suite. A hidden gem in Zona Romantica ❤️

Both my wife and I think the staff working Garlands del Rio Riverside Boutique Hotel were great: very friendly, helpful, and generous with their time and knowledge. The location was great: near many areas we were interested visiting; close to transport options; in a friendly neighbourhood; yet, far enough away from crazy, tourist-laden parts of PV.

We felt we lucked out staying at the Garland's Del Rio. It has a boutique hotel vibe, with helpful, friendly staff. The hotel is in a great location within walking distance to great restaurants and the beach. The pool area is a bit dated, but nice, and you're also given the option to use the rooftop pool of their sister hotel, just up the road. We'd stay here again!

Location is very convenient to shops and bus stops. Staff is helpful and speaks English. Bed was comfortable. Cool near the river. Our main complaints are - room was dark and we the could hear very loud music across the river at night. Loved the resident cats.

The hotel is lovely, full of artsy character and charm. Loved staying here versus the antiseptic and impersonal beach-front hotels. The staff was very helpful and extremely friendly, and the amenities are good, rustic and quaint. If you’re looking for a simple, refined and artistic place to stay; highly recommend. The neighborhood is quiet enough, safe and walkable. Great location.

Perfect location, wonderful staff, relaxing heated pool, and Old Vallarta charm. The staff were friendly and helpful. Access to the sister hotel pool was welcome for us, as my husband couldn't get into the pool at the Garlands (the steps were too deep for his limited mobility), but a short walk, and we enjoyed a lovely roof top pool. Jesus was an attentive and friendly bartender, and the desk staff was great. Yvan was helpful and attentive, as were other staff whose names escape me. The location is wonderful. Two short blocks to the beach, and great restaurants all around. Trattoria Nuevo is a beautiful little Italian restaurant with live music. We enjoyed our stay at Garlands very much, and hope to return before too long.

Great location in the Zona Romantica, staff very friendly and helpful with advice. Pool is not heated, so I didn't use it, jacuzzi was nice. Bkfast was good and find out that if you book directly is included. Bathroom can use an upgrade, no handheld shower head and faucets getting a bit ugly. I'll recommend this hotel.

Went here late October 2025, with my 16 year old son and nephew. WOW! We loved the hotel, the pool, the common areas and our enormous room. The hotel is so unique, and you'll feel quite at home right away. Gorgeous little art pieces and fantastic wood antiques and huge wooden doors. Location on the river was beautiful, and so relaxing. Music floats on the night air. Breakfast on the river side deck is WONDERFUL! Take advantage! Just be sure to sit protected under a sun umbrella, as the naughty iguanas are snacking on the berries above and might drop some leaves or bark Food was simple, but well made. Service was great. Here's a hint - to get to the Malecon take the back gate and pop over to the other side of the river. Mosey on down through the vendors stalls. This was such a neat way to get to the beach. Such a quick little walk. The Hotel staff went BEYOND our expectations. Front desk gals were amazing. They helped out with restaurant recommendations, tour info, directions. Try ANY restaurant that they recommend. Foodies will love them. The service staff fellows were so helpful and cheery. Bed was super comfortable. A/C was collllllddd. Ceiling fan, gorgeous furniture, colourful walls, nice bedding, little fridge, safe, The road out front is under construction (as of October 25, 2025)- so if you're ordering an Uber, make sure to grab the name of the hotel on the closest intersection for pick up. I will be back. This hotel is an absolute gem of a place.

Staff was the highlight, extremely helpful and attentive. They had great recommendations about where to eat and what to do. The pool unfortunately was closed for remodeling BUT the rooftop pool at their sister property was amazing. My room's A/C was not working at first but staff took care of it immediately, without hesitation.

I visited as a solo traveler. Sonya and Martha were amazingly helpful and kind. Sonya knew the best food spots and Martha was super helpful in connecting me with places/activities. The property is beautiful and in a great location. Quiet but close enough to wherever you want to go. Breakfast was an excellent way to start the day. The AC in the room and TV could have worked a bit better but I’m so happy with my stay and the kindness of the staff that I didn’t mind much. Also the bed was very comfortable. 10/10 stay. Will definitely be coming back!
