The Allen Hotel

Room was small but extremely clean and service staff very friendly and helpful. The location is incredible and the gym is spacious and well equipped unlike most hotels. The beds were very comfortable. We would definitely stay here again.

Great place to work out and use their sauna and steam room. They finally got their sauna working and more of their cardio machines working.

Beautiful art deco aesthetic, functioning gym, and walkable location to amazing food and the New Museum. Would definitely stay here again.

Stayed 4 nights and really loved it. Very comfortable bed, cute little balcony that looked out onto the city. All the staff I interacted with were very nice and polite. A couple nice and private rooftop areas with awesome views. It’s in a very convenient location. So much to do in walking distance but also very close to trains to other parts of the city. I will definitely stay here on my future visits to Manhattan.

Nice place. Allen Hotel finally got their sauna working and a few more aerobic machines. Room 207 had a leaky sink stopper and a broken coat hangar, but personnel appeared glad to be informed.

Great place for my staycation—gym, steam room (but where the sauna was not working). Gym equipment improved with barbells, free weights and bench(es), but TV’s audio wasn’t working properly/loud enough to hear. In rooms, good that sink has very hot water and stopper was working properly, but suggest cleaning the underside of glass desktops.

Great hotel! They upgraded me to the Presidential Suite! Although the sauna was still not working, the steam room works great. Although the TV in the gym had limited sound, the gym was nice, having barbells, free weights, stretching mat and aerobics machines.

The location is near some great restaurants and cafes. Subway accessible - a short walk. I was surprised at how quiet it was and easy to fall asleep. Room and gym very clean.

Amazing hotel if you’re on the LES!!! The rooftop has incredible views and great view of Empire State Building. Even being right on the street, it wasn’t too loud. Gym, steam room, saunas definitely would stay here again

Small rooms!! Small beds! Walls in bathroom need wiped big time. Seen bugs in bathroom. Elevator rugs were gross spend some money and clean this hotel!!

The room was mostly clean, but there was some black mold in the shower and some on the ceiling where the wall meets the ceiling. I asked the front desk if someone could address the mold in the shower, and they said ok, but when I returned at night, it didn't seem to have been addressed (but my AC had been turned way down, so the room was cold). The gym had pretty good equipment, though it was pretty warm in the room. The other thing to note is that the only coffee provided is a kettle with instant coffee packets. A nearby coffee shop opens at 7am.

rooms were super small, and the dust and dirt in the rooms were a bit unusual. the photos are slightly deceiving but the front desk staff was always super lovely and nice. the cleaning staff was particularly rude in terms of interactions I had. showers were beautiful and bed sheets smelled like body odor.

The room climate was lovely. It was still balmy in New York and the AC was adjustable from the room, which was great. I love being able to sleep in a cold room. The room was very clean, and very quaint. It has a lot of charm, it's very classic New York. The Balcony was also a lovely touch.

I stayed here a few years ago during covid at the same room I got during this stay and it was amazing. Now I don't know if I've gotten bougie over the years but this time around the hotel felt a little worse for wear and out dated, hair on the floor in the bathroom, a weird smell when you walk in like half clean/half damp and despair, black mold in certain corners, balcony looked like it hadn't been swept or looked at in multiple stays and everything had a coat of dinginess to it if that makes any sense it just didn't feel truly clean like my previous stay. Besides that the room did the job and the surrounding area was enjoyable! fast check in and courteous staff, empanda mamas right across the st, multiple clothing stores and for the area and the balcony included the price was modest! thank you Allen hotel but my only critique is to please talk with your cleaning team about taking more pride in ensuring rooms are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized! The things I encountered and noted were disappointing to say the least and I was only staying for a night but if it was for multiple I would have definitely been back at the front desk asking for an upgrade or a partial refund due to the conditions, also just sucks because I was bragging about how clean it was the last time I stayed to my lady before we got there.

However, we were with 3 persons, and for all four nights we had to ask an extra towel because they putbonly 2 new towels back. Reception people were nice, but incompetent.

Our blanket and sheets were dirty also the heater did not work properly. Other than that great location.

Mold in bathroom!

Very clean room! Great view! I had a corner room this time and loved the view! The room is very spacious with a comfortable mattress and soft sheets.

I cannot believe what I paid for this hotel room. First of all the entire hotel is rundown and just weird. Secondly, we were given a room on the first floor, which is right above the lobby and when you walk in the opposite wall to the front door is all mirrors. There are no windows except upon closer inspection. There’s a little crank opening and when you open that you’re looking into the storage closet. I’m not even kidding about this. I went back and asked the front desk if anything could be done and she said there were no rooms available and at this point it was 130 and we would’ve had to wait for an hour and a half, and we really needed to take a nap before we went out for the evening. So we made the best of it, but it’s just a horrible accommodation.

This is definitely a no-frills hotel, but I don't regret staying there. It is in a convenient location, close to subway, SOHO, and lots of cafes. The decor is dated but the hotel is clean. Regarding daily room cleaning, the bathroom was cleaned daily and the towels were replaced, but our beds were never remade. We booked a Deluxe Room with 2 double beds, because we were going to be 3 people in the room. Be warned, they are not double beds - they are slightly larger than twin beds, and are too small for 2 people. Regarding sustainability - we were not provided the option to reuse our towels, and there was no recycling bin in the room. We wanted to watch Netflix on the tv. We called the front desk and she said "I don't know, because I don't watch tv". We never found Netflix.

Super convenient to restaurants and shopping. Loved having the balcony and seeing the sunset from the roof. The lighting in the rooms needed help and there was no streaming options available. Other than that it was fine.

Review: I stayed at The Allen Hotel with my friend from February 23rd to 25th. Upon check-in on the 23rd, I was required to pay a $120 USD cash deposit, with the promise that it would be returned to me at checkout on the 25th. However, they did not provide me with any receipt or proof of payment. As a result, I completely forgot to ask for my deposit back before flying back to Canada. When I realized this, I immediately emailed The Allen Hotel. It seemed like the general manager was handling the issue, but his response was slow and dismissive—only replying once a day and repeatedly refusing to process the refund via bank transfer. His excuse? “We are a business, and we don’t do wire transfers.” Really? A business that makes such a basic mistake and handles it with such indifference? Thanks to you, my wonderful memories of this trip have been completely ruined.

I’ve stayed here many many times over the years, have booked multiple rooms for family members during graduation week etc and it’s always been great. However my most recent stay was marred by two really awful guests on my floor with a dog that barked all night and very loud music played from 8am. I was surprised that dogs are welcomed in hotel rooms but apparently they are. Despite ringing the front desk three times during the night and again in the morning and bringing it up during check out, the hotel only apologised and didn’t bother to extend any goodwill gesture. That was particularly disappointing. So while The Allen has been a great place to stay over the last 5 years, I won’t be staying again.

The staff was excellent. They offered to hold our bags after checkout so we could continue to explore. Some NYC hotels won’t do that! The room was super clean with plenty of surrounding dining options. Great affordable lower East Side option.

The staff was wonderful. We had a minor inconvenience in our room, and the staff fixed it immediately. The bed was comfortable. The room was clean. The hotel was in an area with great restaurants. The Tenement Museum is one of our favorite visits when we come to New York and it’s right next door! We will certainly be staying here again!

Everything was great except on the day of checkout they called us at 9:30 am to remind us to check out promptly at 11am even though we requested late check out. Then they call and hang up every 20 mins until you leave. It's my only complaint. Otherwise staff is super kind and helpful.

When booking, I did the option reserve now and pay at the hotel. I was messaged via expedia the morning off before arriving asking to pay before arriving, stated due to “scam” The front desk was not as friendly. She didn’t even advise me check out time when checking in. There was only one young boy with curly hair who was nice. No where on the expedia link did it state a deposit was needed. She told me she needed a “incident fee of $150” with no explanation just asked for a card. Housekeeping only cleaned my room once out of the 3 nights there. The room was decent and balcony was a nice addition. Before checking out i ran to get breakfast around the corner . The house keepers were asking me if i was going to take my stuff. Check out felt rushed really felt uncomfortable. Lower east side was fun good area for bars and food. hotel experience here wasnt the best

Great hotel in Manhattan. Walking distance to China Town, SoHo, Little Italy. Lots of dining options on the nearby streets also. 2 metro stations nearby so you can get anywhere, quickly. Staff are fantastic

The property is well-decorated with Chinese-inspired furniture that suites the locale well. My room had a nice shower, fridge, charging station, and bedding. There are a number of good lower east end restaurants in easy walking distance from the hotel.

Although conveniently located, the block immediately in front of the hotel felt quite rundown and somewhat unsafe, particularly at night

The location of the hotel may not work for some as the area is not glamorous. But the subway stations are nearby, and it was not an issue for me. I also felt safe.

Great place to stay in the Lower East Side. The area immediately around the property is rundown and there’s quite a bit of trash all over the streets surrounding. The city could do wonders by picking up trash more often and not allowing people to dump trash out all over the place to pick through and collect cans/bottles. The hotel itself was lovely and the staff were great.

Great location close to Chinatown, Little Italy and very close to multiple subway stops. A corner room with floor-to-ceiling windows making up both "walls" made the relatively small room seem large. I used the gym to work out and it was excellent. Refrigerators provided in the room were great for keeping cold drinks. The only coffee provided in the room was "instant coffee" which is a bit cheesy, but this seems pretty minor.

The property is well located for anyone wanting the LES on the city. Close to subway and multiple places to eat out. No in house dining available at all a drawback.

The only negative was the lack of a breakfast option in the hotel. Luckily there is a place called Dudley's around the corner. Would certainly use this hotel again.

Good location, very friendly and accommodating staff (no hassle with a late checkout, etc.). The rooms have wood floors. The price is right and even though they don't have room service its NYC and everyone has Uber Eats.
