I don’t realise it was part of the university till I arrived. I thought it might be noisy but it was very quiet and I will book again. The barman also did one of the nicest pina coladas I’ve ever had.

Stayed 1 night

Stayed for one night with my wife. I was attending an event at Edgbaston and we booked somewhere nearby in a pleasant location where my wife would have things to do. In that sense, the hotel was very good - it is in a very pleasant setting on the university campus with Edgbaston Park on the doorstep. We were also very impressed that despite turning up before noon, the hotel allowed my wife to check in and provided a room immediately. We had booked an accessible room, which was the same price as a standard room and I assumed would be close to reception. The day before we arrived, the hotel contacted us to ask if we would give up our accessible room as someone else needed it. Although we both suffer from arthritis, the accessible room was a nice to have rather than an essential requirement so we agreed to give it up. Our room turned out to be on the top floor at the end of a very long corridor - as far away from the reception area as it was possible to be. Possibly, the early check-in but that was never mentioned and it did not seem our kindness was repaid. The room itself was really small - one bed and a chair pretty much filled it. It was clean but at more than £200 for one night, we expected more. The bar and restaurant were good quality but overpriced. On checkout, we were charged for the room, which had been paid for in advance. That money has now been refunded but additional hassle. Staff were great but we felt overall, the hotel was not good value for money.
