Hotel need a complete revamp as the condition is worn out at best. The elevator was not working in the main wing so we were forced to walk up two floors, take the connection skyway to our block and then walk up or down the stairs in that block to reach our floor, which was very exhausting and tedious. When using the entrance across the street in the riverside block to save ourselves from climbing the stairs we were quite curtly told that the entrance is only for staff and that customers are required to undergo the ordeal on climbing multiple staircases to reach the other block.

Lovely hotel and atmosphere. Extremely well looked after by Gavin on the front desk. Gym in good condition and plenty of kit. Rooms a touch tired. Breakfast smashing. Great hash browns.

The bed was very comfortable and there was plenty of hot water. The heating was not easy to control but the room was comfortable was was the dining room. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The breakfast selection was extensive, well cooked and varied. The bar area was rather "corporate" and could be less formal. It should be clearer that there are expensive charges for car parking, increasing the cost of the stay by over £22-. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the city's attractions.

Visited my son who also stays in the hotel whilst at work in the area. Great room , comfy bed, wonderful brekkie,great staff, happy hour from 4-6 , clean and tidy but hotel is a little tired. One negative is the £11 per night for car parking . Will definitely stay there again .

The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Thats as good as it's gets really, we got a superior room and was very basic. The pillows were so thin we needed extra, brown stains on the netting at the windows, what looks like round bleach or paint stains on the wallpaper and mould in the bathroom. People kept standing outside the windows and smoking (staff included) and it was so loud as staff bins and laundry was kept near the windows that we barely slept through the night. The walls are so thin we hers people's toilets flushing and the upstairs shower sounded like a storm outside how loud it was, I actually woke up thinking it was thundering. Breakfast was good and facilities were okay.

Very nice hotel, perfectly situated for walking into the city. Good check-in experience, public areas nicely maintained, but shame about the unexpected extra in our bedroom - a pile of toenail clippings on the carpet next to the bed! We presume these were from the last guest, but there was quite a bit of dust and cobwebs etc so it's quite possible it was an earlier guest. In any case, a deep clean is obviously long-overdue. The toenails were quickly removed on request, but the whole incident took the shine off our stay.

From my first interaction, I sensed that guests who are non-white or speak English with an accent may not receive the same warmth as others. While the front desk staff greeted the white guests ahead of me with friendly conversation, the male clerk (Gavin) became noticeably less cordial when it was my turn. He also failed to mention that housekeeping services must be specifically requested. Because of this omission, my room was not cleaned the next day — which I initially accepted without complaint. However, on the following morning when I requested housekeeping from a female clerk, she raised her voice and asked, “Did you book the housekeeping service?” When I explained that no one had informed me of such a policy, she offered a short, formal apology, yet her manner remained distant. The most unpleasant discovery came when I took a shower and noticed the water nearly overflowing. Upon checking the drain, I found it completely clogged with a large mass of hair from a previous guest (see attached photo). It was clear that the bathroom had not been properly cleaned before my arrival. To add to the discomfort, when I went down for breakfast one morning, I was told that “someone has already used your room number.” Although the staff eventually let me dine, the experience was awkward....

The room and bathroom weren't the cleanest. Alot of hair on the floor. Grubby around the shampoo etc. Food was decent and service in restaurant was nice but it was really really slow. 90 minutes for 2 courses and only about 3 other tables in.

A nice quiet place to rest on our journey up north. The staff was helpful, the beds were comfy, and the room was unexpectedly large for England. Breakfast was delicious. Only bad part was that there were not enough usb charging ports by the bed, but it’s not a big deal. Probably our best stay on our England trip.

The stay started ok and the room was nice. I had had a long day travelling and working. I ordered some food from the bar, an hour later my food still hadn't arrived. I went to reception to complain as I couldn't find anyone else. She called the catering manager to come and see me. After 10 minutes he came out the receptionist told him the problem. He looked at me as if to say how dare you complain and walked off without saying anything to me. I told him not to walk away from me and he glared and continued to walk. I went packed my bags got a refund and left to find a much nicer hotel with helpful people.

I have stayed here many times to visit my son and the experiences have been patchy. This visit was on the poor end of my experiences. I had booked 3 rooms and only 2 were ready when I arrived with my family at 3:45. We did not get the keys to the third room until after 9pm. The staff did not contact me to let me know the room was ready. The staff seemed very flustered and not focussed on customer experience (it was university graduation season and they were busy). There were no tissues in one of the room and insufficient coffee sachets for our stay. When we asked for more coffee, we were given tea. The lift to the rooms has been out of order for a couple of weeks and there was no offer to help us take our luggage up two flights of stairs. The room rates were really high (presumably due to demand) but the experience did not match the premium price point.

A nice 2 night stay at the Delta Durham. Staff were friendly and eager to help. One small issue was that we were not made aware at check in that we had to opt in to having our room serviced and therefore this was not carried out after our first nights stay.

I had a pleasant river outlook although the room was a rather complex trek from Reception and I got a lot of traffic noise from early morning (probably not a problem in cold weather with the windows closed). Very convenient for Cathedral and castle/uni. Good parking at £11 p.d.

Great central location. Royal County has a relaxed elegance and is comfortable and welcoming. Lovely room and had a very pleasant stay.

In need of a facelift. Staff were poor. A hotel without a restaurant. Check in allegedly 3 pm however room not available until 4:30. Bar has poor selection of drinks. Hotel extremely convenient for visiting Durham centre.

Wonderful, friendly staff. Chatted away like they knew us. Lovely hotel and great parking round the back. Only two improvements to suggest 1) bathroom a bit tired looking 2) no restaurant at this time, just breakfast and bar meals which was okay but limited.

Chosen for convenience for Durham Regatta and town. Very ordinary hotel nothing special. Food choice for dining was poor and the food not great. Dusty room but clean bathroom. Uncomfy bed and pillows. Very overpriced. Friendly staff

We had a wonderful stay Delta Hotels Durham Royal County. The hotel's location in Durham oldtown could not be better; it's close to everything. The hotel is clean, comfortable and the staff are extremely helpful. The breakfast buffet is excellent, with plenty of choices. They even will make your eggs to order. Breakfast hours suit all guests (0630 - 1030) and checkout isn't until 1200. Definitely would recommend!

our stay was perfect other than the breakfast which we thought was overpriced and barely warm and the bacon imo was under cooked and no variety from day to day! Also the food menus in the grill I thought were poor! alright if you like chicken but again not much to choose from. The staff were all lovely and very helpful and the location was very good.

Interesting property, with unique hallways inside. Great area for walking around and exploring. David, at the front desk, was particularly helpful with suggesting walking paths. Breakfast in the hotel; not recommended.

The room and bathroom weren't the cleanest. Alot of hair on the floor. Grubby around the shampoo etc. Food was decent and service in restaurant was nice but it was really really slow. 90 minutes for 2 courses and only about 3 other tables in.

Our stay was excellent... apart from breakfast, which was dire. Welcome and staff were friendly and helpful. Bedroom was large and well appointed, with comfy king bed with fine quality bedlinen. Bath towels were rather narrow in the transatlantic model, but adequate. Toiletries were fine, though no body lotion. Position of hotel was brilliant - close to the city centre and cathedral and castle. BUT breakfast was awful. "Orange juice" (labelled as such) was actually diluted oversweet orange squash - yuck! Fresh fruit was only water melon and pineapple, both is short supply. No granola. Bread was cheap and unpleasant. Scrambled eggs cold and pale and tasteless. Croissants were doughy. Plates supplied for cooked breakfast were side plate size... an unsubtle attempt at portion control. A lady at the next table said that quantities over the previous two days had been worse still. Come on Marriott! You can do better than this!! No wonder the hotel is called "delta". I would grade the breakfast epsilon.

Nice room, clean, well-presented. Bathroom good, good shower. Helpful and friendly staff. Breakfast was good - but some hot food had been on the buffet a bit too long and it wasn’t top quality. Well stocked bar. Friendly barman.
