Downtown Value Inn

I liked that you need to have a key card to access the building. So no uninvited guests knocking at the door. The parking leaves a lot to be desired. Parking is under the motel and the entrance and parking spaces are very narrow and very difficult to navigate. Each space has 2 pillars you have to back through. So tight you most likely have to turn in your mirrors. And with access from both ends of the garage the potential for a for rea headache of a gridlock willhaunt your dreams. Extended air crew cab pick-ups, forget about it.

The parking lot is not easy to get into! Very tight steep entrance. Very small and tight lot. Furniture was very crappy and damaged! Missing light fixtures. Stains. Terrible pillows. Very LOUD with the train being right there.

Door had been kicked in at one point. Big carpet stains looked like blood stains and on wall. Rented 3 rooms greasy dirty headboards in one room. Huge carpet stains in other two rooms. Very few parking spaces and if you drove a truck you had to pay to stay in nearby garage.

Parking is absolutely limited and complicated. Very tight spots and hard to get into. But it's free and we were able to get one of the spots each of our five nights. Water pressure was good, rooms were clean, bed was comfy, and overall a good stay. Right by the tram stop and that was kinda loud but we travel with a sound machine and couldn't hear it over that.

it is nice closes to restaurant and 12 minutes to court house, but it to noise until 11pm and noise back 4:45 am on sunday morning, the garage only for cars

The parking is extremely limited and is on a first come first serve basis. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the room was clean and spacious. I would definitely come back!

Close to downtown. Walkable and next to PSU. Parking spaces are small and very much so limited. Staff was friendly. No elevator unfortunately. I don’t required much when staying somewhere. It is next to rail transit so be prepared to hear it. Overall, would stay here again…it was comfortable and inexpensive.

Stayed for 5 days. Location was great, on site laundry was handy. Pretty dated and dingy, and the tiny parking lot led to me putting a scratch on my rental car that cost me more than my entire stay.

Parking is a tough situation here. They have a underground lot but the spots are very small and have support columns that make it hard to fit a small car. We were in a compact vehicle and ended up street parking after scratching our vehicle.

No room to park and it’s really hard to get in. so noisy around the building. Housekeeping was so poor.

This place was clean and quiet with free parking. It isn't fancy and doesn't have any of the "upgrades", but it's clean, well-maintained and the staff is kind. For the downtown location, I felt safe and that my car was secure. For a simple, no-frills stay, I think this was probably the best I've ever stayed at. Will definitely stay here again!

The folks working the desk were very nice and helpful and while nothing was stand out this is a value inn for a reason. It was clean, convenient and work perfectly for having a place to stay for a night. Would recommend.

There was trash under all of the furniture it didn't look like the room had been cleaned very well. There was tape over the door locks, so I had to pull it off before I could lock my door. It smell like smoke and paint and mold. And there was vomit on the ground outside the main door. The night manager seemed pleasantal enough and told me he would clean up the vomit. It seemed like he was also dealing with somebody trying to get inside the building, so he was a little distracted. But very nice

The free parking was so small I damaged my car while parking. The room was in poor condition, The carpet seller mildew. The furniture was shabby. The bed did not have a top sheet. The whole property needs an update.

This inn was in a great spot. Easy walking distance to a great ramen shop. It was very easy to find. Just look for the Catholic Church. FREE parking. The room was a little shabby, the fridge didn’t really work well, BUT, the beds were very comfortable, the AC ran cold and the bathroom was very clean. So no complaints. The staff was efficient, polite and kind.

Great location near Portland State University and downtown, including coffee shops and restaurants. Staff was accommodating and helpful. Onsite free parking was tight but very helpful. Initial impression of hallway with soiled carpets and cigarette smell was unfortunate. There were debris on the floor under the beds in our room, though otherwise room was clean and fresh, bed comfortable. Bathroom small but functional with update shower surround. This is directly adjacent to a light rail track, so ear plugs would be good if you want to go to sleep early or get up late.

The staff was great the rooms were dirty the windows dirty thungs spilled all over them carpet dirty no plug for us to take a bath the drain for the bathtub looked like it had mold hair on the towels

There was no cold water in the bathroom sink, both knobs sent out hot water. The bathroom sink was backed up and took forever to drain. The bathroom smelled like someone was actively smoking in it (I assume it was coming from the vent from a neighboring room). Carpets in the room were severly stained, there were left over clothing items in one of the drawers of the "dresser". The city tram runs on the street directly next to 2 sides of the building. It was crazy, crazy loud every time it went buy. I was only able to get 3 hours of sleep during the time it wasnt running.

I was getting ready for bed, pulled down the sheets and noticed several pieces of hair in between the sheets. As if someone laid there and they didn’t change the sheets. As the front desk for new linen the lady was rude and asked if I could change the sheets myself because she had to watch the front desk… she ended up moving me to another room - this time the sheets were stained. Couldn’t get a refund on the remaining nights for the room I had paid in advance for

It is good value for the price, but noisy place, the room does not isolate sound well. Cleaness needs improvement. Room also needs a bit more furniture.

The parking was awful. Our room was right next to a main street and there was no sound proofing. Woken up at 7am everyday by construction and awoken throughout the night by yelling and screaming people.

No complaints. Nice size room, clean. Convenient. Parking is tight though. Larger truck's beware. Weak and noisy AC.

I’ve stayed here before. It’s a great room for the money - clean, quiet, and convenient with free parking. The room has a microwave and mini fridge which are nice features for a budget friendly hotel. Front desk staff are nice and helpful. The adjacent pizza by the slice restaurant with full bar is convenient. Recommend!

A block away from my conference center at PSU. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Mattress was super comfortable and everything was clean and working (TV and streaming, WiFi, A/C).

Great price, room was ok and clean. But the streetcar goes right by the building and makes it noisy sometimes

Train noise every 20 minutes. Poor parking availability. Room was merely adequate… Not as pictured.

No-frills hotel right in downtown Portland. Easily walkable to waterfront, bridges, the main downtown areas and way cheaper, buses and trams. Definitely dated and in need of love, but the price easily makes up for it. Shower had a temperature issue and needed maintenance. The climate control was a bit tricky but worked OK once I figured out. Bed was comfortable and there was ample space in the room. Wi-Fi worked very well. Area was safe around - no concerns. Didn't use parking but it wasn't as sketchy as some people wrote. Just might be a tight squeeze for large cars. Some might get bothered by the streetcars that pass right outside the window, but I always sleep with earplugs and heard absolutely nothing. Would totally stay again.

This property is fine except beds are awful. Expedia overcharged me 30$ and then gave me a $15 discount so I thought I was doing good! Don't use Expedia! They're crooks! Customer service is excellent at this location un

Great spot for travelers on a budget! The place was super clean and check in/out was seamless. The front desk staff was always very nice and helpful as well. It’s definitely not the fanciest place in Portland but the price and location couldn’t be beat. The only downside is that the parking garage was really small and steep, but still would highly recommend this spot!

We asked to get into our room to change for a wedding 30 mins before hand and was told our room wasn’t ready unless we paid $100. So we did and it was ready. The place was dirty!

Quick and easy to check in. Wanted to give a big shoutout to Nicole at the front desk for her quick responses and for communicating well regarding all my questions. She was patient and was true to her word! The property was decent for the price and it was just what i needed for my one night stay!

I did not actually get to stay here. My daughter and I did not make it to the hotel until about 2am. The woman at the desk was extremely unpleasant, she told me there was no reservation under my name, when in fact I had reserved with Expedia days in advance. We were turned away and I was forced to look for another hotel at 2am! On top of all of this, I was still charged at Downtown Inn. I eventually was refunded. I would never book here again nor recommend this place to anybody. The woman who works at night needs some training, she should not be allowed to deal with customers until she learns proper customer care.

The front desk lady was so nice!!! Quick check in. Knowledgeable about the best place to get coffee and breakfast just right across the street. Definitely made our stay more welcoming.

This is the perfect example where triumph of customer service, and of personal human decency by staff, compensates for any perceived deficiencies in a property. This is a budget property. If you have illusions of snooty, uniformed bellhops, snarky concierges behind marbled desks, and enormous lobbies with Tiffany stained glass domes . . . . your nose may turn up and your heart may sink, because this place is a solidly built motel for regular folks. If you're a snob, chase the Ritz-Carlton, not far away. Two things make this place special: Location and, above all, its staff. A block away is PSU. It sits right on a streetcar line that will take you anywhere. The property has free parking (but it is in short supply, best call and ask). 15 minutes of pleasant walking takes you anywhere in the downtown district and a bit further goes to the Pearl and adjacent districts. There are superb food trucks a block or so away (Portland helped popularize food truck culture a few years back). But the staff make this place. I am tempted to say I have never seen such kindness and supportive attitude in an accommodation before. So totally above and beyond the call, it was amazing. During my stay at the hotel, I needed assistance a number of times, and Nicky, Nicole and others jumped at the chance to help me and my partner when we were in need. We were just amazed! Just for this reason alone, I would give this property 100 stars if I could. I could not possibly recommend more highly.

Nikki (not sure if i spelled her name correctly) was AMAZING. We experienced issues at another hotel and she got us checked in early so we coukd get some rest. Absolutely saved our anniversary trip. Nicole at front desk was great. Location was awesome for connecting to transit. Plenty of food options within blocks. Would stay again!

My partner and I didn’t want to spend out the wazoo but wanted somewhere comfortable to stay. The place was tidy, but had a little bit of wear to it. Check in and check out was a breeze and staff were friendly and accommodating. If you’re used to city noise (we’re from Seattle) the streetcar shouldn’t be much of an issue. We stayed three nights and felt perfectly safe around the area. Totally recommend Ovation, the coffee spot right across the street. Super convenient spot for hopping on a bus or streetcar to wherever you wanna go! I plan on staying here again!

Located in middle of Portland State University campus. Light-rail, street cars and busses right outside the motel on two sides. (Very inexpensive, too) Its an older building but well maintained. Nothing fancy. Great for visiting PSU

Great location for downtown Portland

Given the low price and the 1 star rating the Value INN was a positive surprise - quite clean and nicely updated. It was across the street car station and also 20 to 30 minutes walk away from must sees in the downtown area.

They got me checked in within 3 minutes. Felt very safe. Perfect location. Train station across the street. I was able to get everywhere i needed to including returning from a trailblazer game with only one train. It will be my number one choice in the future. Note: other reviews make note of the transients. Its important to point out that transients are normal in many cities. Not an issue at all with my experience.

Overall a pretty good experience based on location to a nearby market, CVS, walking distance to food trucks and restaurants. Also close to the street car and max lines. Only issue is the parking structure is very tight with a few inches on both sides. The slots are also at a tight angle. very little clearance when backing up. My rental car got wedge and was scratched up.

It is a basic motel but in close proximity to downtown. The bar connected to the motel had very good pizza and the bartender was awesome. Hotel staff were incredibly nice as well. We had a parking spot at the property. There are not many places to dine nearby and the area is flooded with homeless people. The motel and room reaked of cigarette smoke. The price was right so I booked it. Cheap and zero frills about it. Don’t go here if you have high expectations as you will be severely disappointed.

First , everyone working at the front desk was very friendly the room was a good size and clean. Since being right next to transit, it could be a little noisy but felt like it was a safe area next to a pizza/bar place and food trucks Just let you know there is no elevator but still an easy walk up. No complaints really
