Staff were extremely nice and hosted multiple events for guests. I was there for the free beer night and hostel birthday which was a blast. I slept in the 14 person capsule room and had no issues. The locker that is provided worked perfectly and showers were fine.

Super affordable and offered everything I needed in an extended stay work visit. Clean, walkable to most of the venues I needed to be at. But would love to have a closet or long locker to hang my clothes in. The controllers in my capsule didn't work so I didn't have air conditioning nor could my phone charge when the pod was turned off so I could sleep. Lockers are too small to keep a laptop secure. Coffee and empanadas at the 1st floor cafe are amazing! Staff goes way out of their way to make sure everyone is happy and safe. Super cordial. The showers creeped me out at first because they're in the basement but quickly realized they're pretty awesome, spacious and super clean -- but wear flip flops just in case. If you're staying in DC for a week or more, no family and no frills, this is the place to be... but it has some good frills. :) Oh and free beer Friday was awesome!

I stayed at U Street Hostel for the second time, and it never fails to be a great accommodation for shorter stays. The cafe is perfect for early morning starts and there's ample space to work on the first floor. Will definitely book again when I come back to DC.

I stayed here for five nights. I preregistered at home and access to the front door and my dorm worked well with the app the entire time. The capsule is a good size although people over six feet might like a few more inches. The capsules appear fancy in the photos but the features are standard - several lights, a mirror, two usb ports, two hooks, and a small table. There is no standard plug so be sure to bring plenty of charging options including a single to multiple usb charger. There is a roll down blind for complete privacy. On each floor, there are several private toilets that lock and a set of public sinks. Showers are in the basement but there is no lock on the main door. Individual showers are divided by curtains not locked doors. Bring your soap/shampoo as the provided containers might be empty. There are hair dryers. There are tables for eating in the front entrance. The decor is a little worn, a little musty, but everything is generally fine. The neighbourhood is historic and feels safe enough. Lots of restaurants nearby, trader Joes nearby, metro around the corner.

Simple and straight forward, clean and quiet. Stayed 4 nights for a conference and it was the best place under $100/night. Pod only has a roll-down shade to 'close' the entrance, but that's better than bunk beds. Showers are very clean. Stairs could be washed, as so the top of the upper pods, but that didn't make the stay any worst. Having the cafe rights there, tv (projected on the wall), games, and the Metro so close are all great elements.

Over all was a nice place, but the restroom area is literally infront of the front desk, where everyone can hear you, the showers are dirty and public and the noise inside the building is a lot, I end up paying another hotel.

I loved it. This is my first time staying in a hotel. I'm usually concerned about privacy but I loved this. The pods were very private and large enough. I could actually get dressed in there and there's a mirror with LED lights so I could do my hair and makeup too. It was also pretty quiet in the rooms and there are lockers. Only con is the charging situation.. there's only one USB and one USBc. So bring your portable charger. It wasn't crowded at all and it was clean. I would recommend for a quick stay especially if you only need a place to sleep and get ready.

First, I did not care for the high tech set up for entering the hostel or my room. It caused me a problem when my phone died on my evening walk and were it not for the night porter handing me his battery charger through the door (would not let me enter without using phone on door lock) until I could get enough charge to open door. What would I have done if he wasn't on duty to assist me? Some guest had learned how to override the locked thermostat and constantly lowered the temp to 69 degrees, even after staff raised the temp. That's not eco friendly and I was freezing. The pod is a new experience for me and while I liked it overall, entering and especially exiting it from the end was difficult. Would have been great from the side. Staff were great and very accommodating and even with construction going on, rooms, showers and common areas were very clean. Instructions for locks, especially the lockers, were too abbreviated. There were steps missing that I had to learn from staff and experience.

Get what you pay for I guess? Really cheap but it was uncomfortable and weird. Felt partially built. It was hot and muggy in the room, even hotter in the pod. Place was relatively clean at least, bathroom was nice. Chargers didn’t work inside the pod, the fan did little to circulate air. Just spend the money on a real hotel

Mattress, pillows, and duvet were very comfortable. Hot water in shower was good. Wi-Fi worked well. Walkable to downtown and various public transportation options. Property was loud and not nearly as nice looking as in its photos. Room was too warm with no way to adjust temperature. Sink was too small to brush teeth over without hitting my head on the mirror.

Pros: Amazing staff, clean, and convenient( subway right there). Everything you need at the perfect price Con: AC was a little weak. They have it at like 72 but in the pods it’s really 75-77. This is just a little too warm for me.

This was my first experience sleeping in a pod and it was very comfortable. The mattress and pillow provided were good quality with a lot of support. The Goki keyless system was handy and easy to use. I especially liked the location , there was a Metro and bus stop around the corner. The staff was friendly and helpful. Additional lighting at the communal sinks on the floor would be a big help. The showers had good water pressure. A fresh paint job would make the place shine. I'd stay there again.

I really wanted to like this place but could not get in the building for the life of me. This is a good spot if you have flexibility in your days to go in person to check in during the two three hour periods that staff is at the location. I did not and despite calling a ton and trying to use the remote checkin app it never worked to let me get in the building. I called the desk and checked in with them on the phone when I wasn’t able to be there in person from 6-10pm. They were really helpful and send me to the info to later get in the building. When I finally got back I found that the code I was given still did not work to get me inside. This was a really really frustrating experience and I felt like I spent half my day just trying to make this work. I booked last min which is probably part of the issue but I just can’t suggest this to anyone. The space itself was nice once I finally got in.

U Street Hostel is the place to stay! The staff is AMAZING, having the GOKI app to communicate and check-in is perfection, and a special shoutout to Ty at the front desk! This is the second time I've stayed and it's the perfect location, at the perfect price, with perfect cleanliness, and overall AWESOME!

I got there late and was tired I tried to get checked in and no one was available fell asleep in the couch woke up hour later and was so tired I fell asleep in the basement where finally they thought I was trespassing and came and saw I had a reservation and finally checked me in my room 4 hours after I arrived at front desk

Really great stay! Beds were comfortable, staff were friendly. A tip: if you don’t book directly through their website, I’d recommend reaching out to them before you arrive to get the door code. Otherwise checking in could be difficult. But someone was there to let me in and everyone was helpful! Would stay again.

This place isn't bad, it's just not for me. If you're in your 20's and you're trying to save money and travel; this is the place for you. But as someone approaching 50, this place was not right for me. It was very clean, located in a nice area and literally 50 yards from a Metro stop (U St). Never saw staff because it's pretty much completely automated.

It was great for my needs. It is right next to the train station which made it very easy to get around. There were also plenty of places to get food and drink nearby. If you are going to a concert at the 9:30 club, it is a great place to stay as it is a 10 minute walk at most. It is in many ways better than a standard hostel in that the capsule does give you some additional privacy. My expectations were more than met.

This place isn't bad, it's just not for me. If you're in your 20's and you're trying to save money and travel; this is the place for you. Very accessible cabins for a good price. I visited U street hostel in Sept 2024. They are conveniently located next to a subway station making it easy to visit the national mall. This is the perfect stay for solo-travelers who need a cheap place to sleep at night and wander off during the day.

It is easy to get around, thanks to the hostel's proximity to the Metro station. You can also conveniently take the bus to Georgetown for a short walk. For the price this beats going to any hotel. The pods are comfy, the temperature in the building is nice, and the staff does a great job of taking care of the place. There’s lockers to stow away important electronics and other items you would rather not have in the open. Wifi works great, and the coffee shop is pretty good, although it closes a bit early. Another great plus is everything around you. There’s plenty of shops and restaurants around you, all within short walking distance, and the metro is right next to the place. Again, for the price, this truly can’t be beat.
