The Sumner Hotel

A very good value hotel for this area.Well located close to Marble Arch but away from the busiest roads, with plenty of good restaurants within a short walk and the whole of London easily accessible by tube or bus. I had a downstairs room which was quiet, comfortable and surprisingly large by London standards. The only let-down was that the air-conditioner / heater was not working well and wouldn't warm up, so I left that off.

Staff were excellent & very obliging. The stairs were a real problem - they had a lift but you then had to carry your luggage up or down stairs to get to your room, which made it very difficult. Very squeaky floors throughout building

Small cute Regency era converted house on border of Mayfair and Marylebone. Walkable to Marble Arch. Small breakfast room buffet and hot options. Nice lounge no bar but nice pub a few doors away. New Quebec Street round the corner, and Nobu Hotel worth visiting. Don’t expect large chain hotel. Great value

No working elevator and too many stairs. No working air conditioner during heat wave.

The property is in a great neighborhood, the staff is friendly and offer a good service, The elevator does not work, and it seems they have no intention on fixing it, so consider carrying your luggage many stairs up and down. I really consider that the property needs an important reformation. The rooms are tiny and need a change in furniture and carpeting.

Disappointing stay. Hotel is lovely, fabulous position for Hyde Park, staff polite and friendly. However, we were greeted with the news that the lift was out of order (we were on the third floor), then when we got to our room on a hot July day, the air conditioning was also out of order - and a temporary portable unit, very noisy, was in situ instead. Which would have been fine, save that it was leaking and we had a sodden carpet. Further, the TV was not tuned in and no channels were available. On reporting these things, they simply said room 206, oh, yes. We did not get what we had paid for!

The elevator didn't work. No offer to carry luggage up five floors. The TV didn't work, and what there was was lousy water pressure. I asked the service to look into it, but got no feedback that they had tried, and there was no change in the TV or water pressure.

Great location and nice hotel. Lift was out of order for our whole stay. We are fit, bit 5 floors is a lot for others.

They told my room was on the 3rd floor but both lifts were broken, and will not be fixed during my stay. Managed to get a room in the basement. No lift, television didn’t work, when I told them about the TV, the answer was, “We know” rooms were like a b&b not a hotel

Not perfect but deserving of 5 Stars for the staff, the Georgian charm, and the location. The staff was very accommodating and helpful. The lift wasn’t working (apparently hasn’t been working for a while) but our bags were carried up for us. We needed a cab a couple of times and asked the desk manager to arrange it and it was there right on time. Nice coffee shop around the corner. Marble Arch bus stop 4 minute walk away. When we return to London it will be the Sumner again!

The staff were very polite and the rooms were clean. We would definitely stay there again.

A very well presented hotel with pretty flowers at the front and a polished front door. Very clean inside and the staff are sooo friendly and can’t do enough for you. The room is very comfortable, really quiet and has a lovely shower. Breakfast is great, offering everything from a bowl of cereal to a full English. Overall, this hotel is ideally located, quiet, very comfortable, extremely clean and has wonderful staff. Will definitely stay again and recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing stay in Central London.

The bedding had stains, restroom terribly small, staff was not helpful

The bathroom wasn’t very clean and smelled like mold. Housekeeping wouldn’t come until very late in the day. I checked out a few days ago and they still haven’t charged me and the staff isn’t very helpful trying to figure out why. The location was nice and the room was big.

The staff were lovely, it was just our room that smelt of damp. The shower in particular smelt like a drain. The area however is fab and I think this boutique hotel has a lot of potential!

The toilet seat had dried urine stain , rubbish on the floor. Reception had me wait while he was texting middle of our conversation. Hair inside the bath tub. Most disgusting hotel i stayed at, and i work 3-4 days a week out of town...

We stayed for one night at The Sumner. Excellent location. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room a great size, very clean and comfortable. And air con was a huge bonus!!

Good location and in principle it was not a bad room. But, the room had a very strong smell of cigarettes. At night someone was banging on the doors. Also, the table lamps near the bed did not work.

I was pleasantly surprised at how cute this little boutique hotel was. I would definitely stay here again. Spacious room, Very comfortable, private bathroom, clean and quiet as long as the windows were closed. We opened them for a bit to get some fresh cooler air as we could not adjust the air conditioning and with them open there is quite a lot of street noise. Also seems like a safe neighborhood, but my husband did have his phone ripped from his hands just a block away so be vigilant.

The initial reaction when stepping into the Sumner was traditional London high end hotel/B&B. Service was lovely the receptionist was very welcoming and shared all details that needed to be conveyed. All rooms are serviced by the lift however there is one staircase to negotiate regardless of where your room is - not an issue for me but good for people to be aware. The room was an impressive size, very spacious, lots of storage, fridge, tea & coffee facilities, desk and pretty much everything you would need. Now for the downside: Rooms are very noisy - internal and external noises can be heard pretty clearly. Neither of the bedside tables worked Bathroom needed some TLC - patchwork tiling where fixes had previously been done and a lingering smell (keep the door closed!). TV signal was appalling! I was travelling for business so I enjoy watching something when I'm away as I don't have to rugby tackle anyone for the remote! Kept freezing, very difficult to navigate channels and due to the bed being quite far away it was difficult to actually see what was on TV when it was working as was a smaller screen. Lastly the desk chair was very uncomfortable, it had clearly been used quiet frequently! All in all for a 1 night stay it wasn't terrible but if I had been able to swap hotels I would have but due to my late arrival this was not possible.

This is a very nice property. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room spacious and comfortable. The location was very convenient with nearby public transport, shopping, restaurants and parks. There is a lift on site, but also a couple of stairs. They also allowed us to store our luggage as we arrived early in the morning. My only issue was with the shower. You cannot adjust the temperature or turn the water off when your hands are wet and the water is scalding hot. Had to use a face washer to grip and turn the taps. For safety the hot water temperature needs to be reduced. I would stay here again.

Location is very convenient. I'd visited the Sumner in the past before the pandemic. The room I was given was adequate, with a decent shower, small fridge and acceptable bed. The room furniture, however, was not in keeping with what I'd previously known; the desk chair in particular was soiled and over-used, the clothes bureau did not close, and the chaise had a tattered blanket draped over it. If you don't need to spend much time in the room, all that could be overlooked, but it was a different feel than I'd previously experienced.

The location and rooms were ideal for our stay but there is a lot of noise from the street and the area above the room we were.

Nice staff and great location with lots of train options. Despite a beautiful and modern lobby the rest of the property is quite run down. My room had carpet and curtain wear/stains and the bathroom had some tile damage. Dated furnishings but a very large and spacious room which was great. Absolutely fine for a pragmatic business trip but definitely not ideal for an indulgent vacation stay.

Some of the fixtures and furniture could do with some updating or repair. Decent value and comparable to other hotels in the neighborhood. Lots of cafe, coffee, and bakery options that offer better choice and value than the in-house breakfast. AC was appreciated. Towels were changed everyday, though we did not request this. WiFi and streaming services on the TV were a bit hit or miss. Was asked at check-in, if I was willing to cancel the Expedia booking and pay the hotel directly - the representative behind the counter only stopped pushing this after I showed her in the app that the cancellation window had already passed, etc.

Everything was clean, the room was huge, usb chasing sockets, free bottles of water all great things to have. Downsides were, TV reception was awful, maybe get a signal boaster, the electrical wires need a good tidy up and one curtain did not work. All minor items but the reason it was very good a few changes and it would have been excellent.

The hotel is well situated and easy to get to via tube. When we arrived we were told that the lift was not working and had not been working for a while. We were placed on the 2nd floor - which in London meant we had 4 sets of stairs to climb. We asked why we had not been informed and there was no response. We indicated that this was a real inconvenience and were told to email the hotel management and that there is no manager on site. We requested some kind of discount for this inconvenience, and were again told to email. We did email twice - and though we stayed for 3 nights and its been 5 days since we have returned home, we have not heard anything back from the hotel management. Very disappointed at this. There was also a 1 inch height difference between the bedroom and the bathroom. Though there was a sign next to the door, at night we kept tripping over it. The bathroom is quite small and it is difficult to open the shower door if the bathroom door is open. Overall we were not happy with the service and ver surprised at how unresponsive this hotel was to our concerns.

It's a small boutique hotel with only 8 rooms. It is a very old building, typical for the area, and located in a very good and convenient location. Nice neighborhood, safe, walkable and close to attractions and transportation. The elevator was fixed and in working condition. The room was big and comfortable; the bathroom was small. A great weekend or extended stay Boutique Hotel on the Fringe of Mayfair. The staff are wonderful and accommodating 😊😊 The rooms are large for London and the location excellent for shopping Oxford street and Metro stations.. I would stay there again!

Pros-Great location for transportation. Marble Arch was an easy walk. Great coffee shops and restaurants nearby. Laundromat just around the corner for longer stays. Cons-Even though the website shows a breakfast room and food selection, no breakfast was available for the 4 days that I stayed there. Chose this hotel because they offered breakfast. Bathroom shower had some mold issues.

Very good location, ok room with decent size, but bathroom had a small shower with poor pressure. The breakfast room in the basement was super wam and unpleasant. And elevator did not work. However, staff was very friendly.

Great location near Marble Arch Tube station! Hotel rooms and facilities were well maintained and quite nice. Very good breakfast in the morning as well.

The only reason this hotel is so expensive is the location. The service was good and the room was spacious and well air conditioned but the bed is on the floor which was a bit weird and the shower smelled terrible. They tried to help me scan and send some documents but it didn’t work. The breakfast was only available for 2 hours and it was dried out and so warm downstairs I was afraid the milk/yogurt might be spoiled. No views in the breakfast room. Overall it was not bad since I was mostly just sleeping there but personally I feel it was overpriced.

The elevator was broken - 5 days later they had not fixed it and no sense of urgency to do so! On our check in we were put on the 4th floor!! I told them to move us the next day - they did. Breakfast was awful - coffee undrinkable and food was cold. Asked for an iron - it was broken and left a red stain on my white blouse and the ironing board didn't open. Guests left struggling to get up the stairs with luggage. Location is good - staff indifferent wouldn't recommend this hotel.

The first line in the property description reads "4 star Bed and Breakfast". When we went down in the morning, an exasperated concierge told us "breakfast is not offered", like we should know that and he was not understanding why he was having to inform everyone of that. We were on the 6th floor and the elevator was broken. We closed one the curtains and they pulled off the rail. No one fixed it during our stay. Even when closed the curtains did nothing to darken the room. The television was not working and we could only use our own Netflix account. The beds were sad, with lumpy pillows and the comforters so short you had to decide whether to keep you shoulders or feet warm. The only redemption of this stay was it's cute, and the staff is friendly. How is this 4-star and how do they justify this price?
