Mansión Papilio

The property was lovely. It is reminiscent of a gentler time. The peacocks add a touch of elegance that is emphasized throughout the entire property. Just beautiful.

Our stay was a very mixed experience. I'll share the positives and negatives to give the fullest review possible, since the existing reviews for Mansion Papilio are definitely in need of clarifying. Positives: The location is in a wonderful, walkable location near to excellent coffee and local restaurants and bars. The staff on site are very kind, and the food and drink included in the breakfast offerings were tasty. The gardens of the hotel are simple and lovely, featuring many peacocks. The sitting rooms inside the hotel are also well curated. There's also a key code entrance to the gate so you can come and go easily. Negatives: Very bare bones accommodations. There is no central air or heat. No screens on any of the windows, so we were extremely bitten by mosquitos (we hope not bed bugs) during our stay. The room (and our bathroom) we stayed in smelled intensely of sewage the entire stay. There's no welcome guide/information packet, so you have to find staff to ask questions, which can be difficult as there is no front desk or concierge. The door knobs to our room and bathroom fell out of their doors during our stay and didn't really lock ever. The pool is exclusive to the large suite, so you can't use it if you're staying in the main house. Loud private gatherings in the gardens until around midnight most of the nights we stayed, which made it difficult to sleep. The bed sort of caved-in in the middle, and was not a queen that I had booked--it was a full sized mattress.

Beautiful oasis, circa 1923 property with wonderful staff, great location, solid breakfast, and (most importantly) peacocks roaming the property. We stayed in the Juliette room set off to the left of the property and liked the privacy. There were several private experiences for other guests — al Fresca cinema, an engagement proposal with a rose-lined walkway to a giant rose heart in the back courtyard, and a private dinner in the wine cellar. We only had one night but would definitely come back and stay longer.

This was such a cool experience. The house and the grounds are hidden away but walkable to all the spots you want to go in Coyacoan. Their sommelier was especially helpful and friendly.

The hotel is so beautiful and we loved all the animals! In addition to peacocks, they also have a giant tortoise and a cat. The staff was all very friendly and so kind and helpful. Highly recommend!

This is a lovely quiet place to stay. The Mansion has very spacious and nicely equipped rooms and sits in the middle of a large garden with many trees and plants and active fountains. There are a couple of peacocks ranging about, as well as a very large tortoise. The staff is very friendly and helpful and speaks excellent English. When I return to CDMX with my wife, I will surely stay there again

Extremely charming, spacious, beautifully decorated mansion that completely transports you to another time and place.

I felt like I was staying in someone’s home. It’s very private and secure. The grounds at the front and the back of the mansion are fabulous too. Everywhere is beautifully maintained. I loved seeing the resident Peaocks and Peahens, which freely roam around the gardens. I received a lovely warm welcome from Beni, who was helpful throughout my stay. Beni also plays the guitar (classical and contemporary) during breakfast. This was such a treat, he is an exceptionally talented musician. I stayed longer at breakfast just to enjoy the music each morning. Anastacio is also great, he was very attentive and provided very high standards of service during breakfast, nothing was too much trouble. Housekeeping do an excellent job too, ensuring everywhere is spotless. I loved my visit to Coyoacan and staying at the mansion made it even more memorable. Thank you to the whole team for making my stay extra special!

Fuimos en viaje de pareja, muy buena atención del personal, excelente ubicación cerca del centro de Coyoacan, una cama cómoda, limpieza en el baño y en la recamara.

Extraordinaria propiedad. Espacios amplios y limpios. Personal con muy buena actitud pendientes en otorgar un muy buen servicio. Martín, Arturo, Daniel y Araceli siempre atentos para ver qué se nos ofrece. El Chef de primera y también con una gran atención. Únicamente sugiero aceitar cerraduras pues rechinan mucho. En la habitación que nos quedamos la regadera sale con demasiada presión y creo es un desperdicio de agua. Por lo demás puedo decir que es un lugar de primera. Un tesoro escondido en el sur de la ciudad de México. Muchas felicidades a todo el personal

Mansion Papilio is so much more than just a convenient place to stay for visiting Coyoacan. The mansion has been beautifully restored, the attention to detail is exquisite. I felt like I was staying in someone’s home. It’s very private and secure. The grounds at the front and the back of the mansion are fabulous too. Everywhere is beautifully maintained. I loved seeing the resident Peaocks and Peahens, which freely roam around the gardens. I received a lovely warm welcome from Beni, who was helpful throughout my stay. Beni also plays the guitar (classical and contemporary) during breakfast. This was such a treat, he is an exceptionally talented musician. I stayed longer at breakfast just to enjoy the music each morning. Anastacio is also great, he was very attentive and provided very high standards of service during breakfast, nothing was too much trouble. Housekeeping do an excellent job too, ensuring everywhere is spotless. I loved my visit to Coyoacan and staying at the mansion made it even more memorable. First, let me say that we WILL stay here again. The staff was so amazing and we chatted with them about their few downfalls and offered suggestions on how to improve. The staff is so attentive and friendly and "white glove" service. The breakfast included was SO awesome! Traditional Mexican breads and great eggs or chilequiles. A beautiful place with old style rooms and decor, PLUS old style working antiques like phones and record player! Bed was great, plenty of TV stations to watch. The few downfalls (but do not let this deter your stay). We did let them know about these. The room had a few spiders that lingered, if cleared daily it would not be an issue. The bath-tub spa did not have hot water, it was luke warm. The hseet and personal towels etc were clean but the overall place does need some more upkeep. this may be due to construction so we did not let it upset our stay. Lastly there is no room temperature control so if its cold its cold and if its hot its hot. Thsi also makes for "wet" feelings in the room due to dampness BUT AGAIN they are creating more things for guests and they are upgrading so I bet the next time we stay it will be 100% .... and we can not wait to stay here again! Thanks to the staff and the hotel for a great little mid week get-a-way.

The Mansion Papilio is like transporting yourself back in time. My sister and I stayed three nights and it is not just for couples, we enjoyed every minute during our stay. From the peacocks to Picasso the cat and the sulcata tortoise to the furnishings, architecture, lawns and serenity. But what stood out the most was the beyond excellent service provided by our Mayordomo Alan. He gave us a tour of the Mansion and knows so much about the mansion’s history. He worked around the clock tirelessly to make sure we had everything we wanted. Even special requests like my non alcoholic cold beers! He is such an inspiration of loving his job and it shows his commitment to excellent service. We already miss the Mansion and we miss Alan as well. We are already planning our next stay!!! Thanks to everyone at the Mansion!

Dieser Ort ist magisch und eine grüne Oase der Ruhe im Zentrum von Mexico City - das Personal ist unglaublich aufmerksam und die Zimmer sind individuell eingerichtet - ich hatte einen Whirlpool im Badezimmer mit Blick auf den Garten - herrlich!

Staff left us at the gate for several minutes at check in, and were not attentive as to our bags. No air conditioning. No information about how to call reception from room, no tissue dispenser. Loud Etta James and similar at check in (fine choice but loud), but also at 8-9 pm which we could hear clearly in our room until we complained, then again starting just before 9 am. No one wants that. Gardener started also at 9, instead of after checkout time. Since no air, windows were open. Staff needs training. Bathroom door (Suite Patrick) is painted glass and flimsy, lighting in shower / toilet area too dark. We had booked Cezzane but given Patrick as the jacuzzi tub was being fixed. In theory a more expensive room, and no upcharge, but closer to the loud music. Overall, it’s a charming place and needs some improvement to the next level. No A/C was ok in cool weather but would not be in the heat. It’s not far to the Frida Kahlo Museum, but a very long walk for most. Also near Coyoacán’s Coyotes park & restaurants which is very nice.

Very calming place to stay especially if you like historical buildings.

Mi estancia en la Mansion fue realmente encantadora, en gran parte gracias al excepcional servicio proporcionado por Martín. Su atención y trato amable me hicieron sentir muy bienvenido durante toda mi visita. El hotel en sí era encantador, con habitaciones bellamente diseñadas y un ambiente relajante. Recomiendo encarecidamente este hotel a cualquiera que busque una experiencia lujosa y personalizada.

The electricity was off for several hours. Someone walked into our room in the middle of the night, saw us sleeping in the bed, and left.

Great place with a wonderful, helpful staff and close to Central Coyoacan for great food, shopping and cultural stuff. Everyone was delightful; breakfast with the peacocksaround the fountain was a daily highlight. Just a very nice place to stay in Coyoacan!

Alonzo, Enrique, and Valeria at the reception were amazing! They checked in on me regularly to make sure I had everything I needed; I was working on a project with a deadline and they went out of their way to support me. They even brought me a glass of wine when they saw I was stressed.

Una experiencia increíble, el lugar es fabuloso, una casa con historia y te la pasas genial, estas a una calle del Centro de Coyoacán, lo que es inmejorable para caminar y disfrutar esa zona, el servicio del personal excelente... Estuve tan a gusto que pase en la mansión más tiempo del planeado...

Beautiful location. Staff was extraordinary, amazing people. They do a great job. They are trilingual and brilliant. Mansion is pretty. Breakfast is great including fantastic soft a live music - boleros and jazz- because it is an old mansion they always have maintenance team. I want to suggest that they invest more in eco friendly approach. I strongly recommend it.

Also ich würde das Hotel nicht wirklich empfehlen. Das Anwesen ansich ist schön und die Lage top. Man würde auch nett empfangen. Das Personal war freundlich und bemüht. Das war es dann aber auch. - Frühstück bei diesem Ambiente sehr einfach, Kaffee mega dünn - Arbeiten während der Frühstückszeit - sehr hellhörig - laute Klaviermusik während der Mittagszeit - und um 12.00 Uhr wird man förmlich, nett rausgeschmissen - Englischkenntnisse null

I love this hotel! This is my second visit, and I will return. The personal attention is exceptional. This is a unique experience: breakfast in the garden with a guitar player , champagne greeting, strolling peacocks, , friendly employees. The architecture and decor are beautiful. Love it all!
