Perfectly comfortable hostel. Nice shared eating area with what looked like quite a lot of well furnished kitchen space. Room with an ensuite bath was comfortable, had everything I needed for a long layover before continuing further south. There’s a desk where you can get info about things to do in the area and the staff there were really helpful- I didn’t know whether they’d just be trying to push pricey tours on me but they were very happy to just help me pick between a variety of free hikes and figure out how to get to them. That was super appreciated!

I love Lylo, have stayed here a few times and always have a great experience. Staff are always friendly and accommodating, great location, car park next door and a bar joined to the hostel (a nice bar too not a grotty hostel bar). The pod beds mean it isn’t the most social hostel but they make up for this with all the events they run and the day trips they have started organising. I wouldn’t stay anywhere else whenever I come to Auckland again!

We loved our stay. The pod room was different but very functional! Great use of space, comfy and spacious bed areas. Great communal areas too. The bar and bar staff were also amazing. Would absolutely stay again!

Outstanding. The pod bunks give privacy, darkness, convenience with sockets, storage nets etc & comfort. Bathrooms are continually cleaned, kitchen area is huge & staff other best to keep on top when done residents don’t understand what clean as you go means. This is a great hostel in the heart of downtown just 10 mins walk from the bus station.

It had several pluses. Having an eatery and bar on site was a plus. The lobby and eatery area were welcoming and convenient for newcomers as a retreat. It was easier to settle in and chill out after a long day. The kitchen allowed for the storage of food items but didn't allow for cooking beyond the hot plate level. The community events were good for encouraging social interaction among residents. More things like trivia night would be great. The bathroom and shower facilities were clean, but the space for toiletries while using them left much to be desired. The front desk was available and willing to help as long as they knew you were coming. If you have to check in late, LET THEM KNOW IN ADVANCE. Pay laundry services were easy through the front desk. Wifi was good in the building. Negatives: This complaint appears in other reviews, but the pod system has inadequate ventilation and cooling. In the four pod rooms and the eight pod rooms in which I stayed, other residents had to ask for extra fans in the pod to deal with this issue. During times when there was a rush or a lot of patrons, the restaurant and bar were ill-equipped to handle the volume of guests. Suggestions: If you have multiple electronics and need more than two NZ plugs, two USBs, and one C cable port, you might want to bring a charge port expander that works with your specific electronics from your country. If you plan to use the bathing facilities, be sure to bring your own towels otherwise, you pay.

really nice hostel, i loved that there‘s the miss lucy‘s right next to it! the rooms are clean as well as the bathrooms, wifi is always good & you can easily and quickly reach the city centre. it’s perfect for starting a journey to new zealand and to settle in a little :) just the kitchen was not that clean and the fridges were really messy. also, the towels in the kitchen were mostly wet. however, there were always enough pans and pots & enough space for everyone to prepare their own meal which was really good. additionally, the staff was always so nice and willing to help. i really enjoyed my stay and will definitely come back again!

Great hotel! Staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. The restaurant serves delicious food and has vegetarian options as well and very affordable prices. The community kitchen is massive, having a travel agency for local attractions is simply amazing. 100% recommendable!

Loved this property, perfect for what we needed. Comfy beds, modern , nice bathroom facilities both private and shared. Great vibe to the place. Bar/restaurant on site but also excellent food options across the road. Vending machine for drinks & snacks. $20 uber to Spark Arena Highly recommend!

Unser erstes Zimmer war leider nicht richtig sauber. Das netter Personal hat uns allerdings direkt ein anderes Zimmer gegeben was in Ordnung war. Person und Lage TOP! Auch gibt es unten viel Platz um zu verweilen. Die Küche ist groß, ordentlich und sauber. Würde definitiv wiederkommen.

The pod doesn't have adequate ventilation, the fan wasn't cutting it so I had to sleep with the door partially open. The sanitary bins in all the toilets I used were so full they were almost overflowing, but facilities were otherwise fairly clean.

The pods were clean but very hot! The rooms could use better ventilation. Location of the hostel good and it’s helpful to have a bar/restaurant right there.

Let start off with saying that my Girlfriend and I stayed in a ensuite private room, one of their higher end room's as it's a hostel but we both needed a good sleep. The room itself was almost perfection! Large and spacious, clean with an extremely comfortable bed and pillows. One downside to the private room however is the lack of shelving and hooks to hang things, there were plenty of room to place these types of things, but they were just nowhere to be had. I truly believe this is one issue the property needs to put in all the rooms. We had two issues at check-in as 1) the receptionist was on break when we arrived and they had no one covering her desk when she was away for 30 minutes, then they were having an IT issue with their keys, but it was solved within an hour and everything was normal after that so I cannot fault them. The receptionist was pleasant to deal with during the process however once she returned from her break. Overall I would definitely stay here again though, the two junior issues at the beginning were definitely outweighed by everything being amazing after that.

Nice for the price but very noisy aircon kept me awake.

Felt very new. Price and location (and a very helpful staff) were the best things going for it. Incredibly small room though, with no windows! Odd frosted glass bathroom in the center with no shelving anywhere to be found.

Clean and quiet. Very well laid out room. Even though it was an internal room it was very comfortable and ideal if you are really just wanting a great place to have a good nights sleep.

As someone 185 cm tall, the pods were a bit too short and I needed to either be diagonal or bend my legs to fit. The pods are also very hot and only have a very loud small fan that blows very little air from the also hot room. I ended up leaving my door cracked but there is also an always on light in the room that we can’t turn off. Other than the pod, the toilets and showers were nice and clean.

I was surprised there was no window, but the TV showed a live rooftop view so that was like having a window. Everything else was great. Perfect location to downtown and bus stop.

I booked a private room with ensuite and was disappointed. There were no windows, the sheets were synthetic and the bed was just okay. Otherwise the room was fine but way overpriced compared to other private options in the city.

No one around when I needed help with check-in, which let down what was otherwise a great stay. Room was great, as were the facilities

They wouldn’t change my pod after I told them I had an ankle injury and I wanted a bottom pod. Then to find out that the girl in my room with the bottom pod only checked in after me ! Most upsetting

Called to inform Lylo that our flight to Auckland from Utah ran into bird engine problem and would be arriving early February 6th morning. It was guaranteed prepaid reservation. Left a message and no return call. Got to the property early Feb. 6th morning and no room available for quick rest before embarking on a cruise ship. Clerk informed me that reservation was cancelled. Well, why no response to phone call and message. We were so busy yesterday. How about guaranteed options to my sleepless flight into Auckland ? I will contact my credit card company to dispute the advance prepaid charge. Thanks !

Lylo is clean hostel offering a very social atmosphere. I stayed here for a few nights during the new year and found the space to be adequate. Personally, I was a bit put off by some of the front desk staff who seemed annoyed by being asked questions or just not very friendly. Overall, a good place to stay for a quick visit.

Hotel won’t allow to check in early even for 30 minutes early!

Very chill atmosphere, new & modern, except that they don’t provide kettle for boiling water, got to get hot water from the public kitchen. Location is convenient, 5 mins walk from Sky City.

Pretty clean and modern hostel. They had music playing from downstairs throughout the day but stopped in the early evening. Self check in and check out. My card stopped working about 1 hr prior to check out, but staff were around to help me fix the issue. There's a quiet area on each floor for those who want to read a book or just sit and relax. Short walk to the Queens St shops and restaurants.

I was waken up by housekeepers fixing beds at 9:30am when checkout time is 11am. This comment was in more than 1 review but no one seems to care. Electronic problems with the doors and my locker... at breakfast, I had not avocado with my order...the sweet guy at the restaurant offered me a free cappuccino; that was the only positive point...
