The main reason for my low rating is that we found the hotel to be very noisy. There doesn't seem to be adequate sound insulation in the walls and doors. The hard surfaces in the hallway makes it easy to hear practically every step and all conversations of others. During late evening, the loud music playing and celebrations in the hotel bar (at street level) could easily be heard in our room. The furnishings in the hotel room were below expectations given the price paid for the room. Interior surfaces needed repainting to cover large scratches. I've stayed at several other hotels in the area in the past so I have good reference point for comparison in the Florence area. Note that the staff was friendly and responsive, no issues there. We like the location, there are excellent restaurants close by and you can easily walk to the museums and places of interest.

This is an odd hotel that is also a hostel. There are several hotels in this building. Lots of younger folks. Very few amenities in the room. Comfortable enough but not great pillows. Great location with lots of restaurants, close to the train station and short walks to the Duomo. Breakfast was okay not great. We got used to the oddness and it was good.

When we checked into our hotel, we got to our room and it was a mess. Housekeeping never touched our room. Staff was understanding when we told them and apologized multiple times, and ended up cleaning it, however, they forgot a trashcan and the towels looked dirty. They were very accommodating and were sincere, but it was a very stressful experience, given the heat, and after getting off a four hour train ride. We were offered an additional free drink at their bar for the experience. Additionally, we paid extra for breakfast per night unfortunately, the food quality was not very good. We ended up eating out for breakfast on our second night, even though we paid for the hotels.

Hotel Merlini is a beautiful and unique stay! My girlfriend and I stayed for 3 nights and loved our room, the rustic Tuscan decor and the family who run the hotel are so hospitable and friendly, we didn't want to leave! The location is so central in Florence, recommend very highly!

The hotel is in a building with a hostel and other hotels. But the lift takes you to a beautifully old-fashioned hotel on the top floor without any noise from lower down. The breakfast room is particularly attractive, with paintings and a view to the Cathedral and Palazzo Vecchio. Breakfast was great too. The staff couldn't have been more helpful (we much appreciated the umbrella they lent us!)
