Fantastic location. Rooms dark & overbearing - our room had a 6 inch window opening, so we had room lights on during a sunny day! No bar service after midnight - you have to usexa vending machine : quite ridiculous in a 4 star hotel.

The style of the Malmaison hotels is something I love. Very comfortable rooms, staff were all very helpful and friendly. The location brilliant, restaurant food was excellent. The only let down was the service in the bar, absolutely loved the decor and ambience there but service was very slow, tables not cleared of glasses, spoiled the experience

Lovely stay at the Malmaison in Edinburgh City, very friendly and helpful staff at the reception desk. Very close to the huge shopping centre and plenty of restaurants to choose from within walking distance.The only negative point was the terribly slow service in the hotel bar, both nights we sat for over 20 minutes waiting to be served and eventually gave up and went elsewhere because of this.

Staff very friendly and helpful - blonde girl on reception (sorry for forgetting your name!) was most attentive. Got upgraded to Junior Suite (thanks!) Restaurant menu could have been more varied and staff seemed more interested in bus party - asked for bill twice but were told to wait. Gave up after 10 mins and left to room. No on site parking but ticket given for 40% discount on parking rate.

Property is nice, great location. Staff was superb. Only negatives were that the room had very low lighting, and getting to our room requred many stairs getting to the elevator, we had a lot of luggage. Can't say enough about the staff, they were great

The hotel was excellent, it was really modern and well located. The rooms were very clean and comfortable (we had a courtyard facing room which was also very quiet). The reception staff were very friendly, helpful and had excellent local knowledge. The choice and quality of breakfast was exceptional and again, the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Prior to our stay, we couldn’t find any information on the hotel website regarding car parking, so paid £9 to park opposite the hotel for about 5 minutes while we checked in. We then found out that and the hotel has an arrangement with the St James shopping centre car park, and they offer a large is discount for hotel customers.

nice hotel. not good for wheelchairs due to multiple stairs in the old building. rooms have ac but the pillows were shocking. pancakes would a suitable description. nice breakfast option's and chic bar with loads of drink options. best feature for us was the location. ideal for a central base.

We had tried to contact hotel prior to arrival but phone wasn't answered and messages not replied to until we were already there. We arrived at 3:30, our check in was at 3:00, room wasn't quite ready (just mini bar not stocked) but we could access it. We found some broken glass under the window seat, one of the curtain tie backs missing, another not secured to wall properly, towel rail in bathroom missing a screw, so loose.....a little disappointing considering the cost. Breakfast was mediocre.

The room needed a thorough clean with dust and grime in corners, under furniture and anywhere a vacuum cleaner couldn’t easily get. The bar was unavailable due to a private function and the breakfast was average with some of it cold. It is a great location, especially for shopping but it is expensive, looking tired with no sparkle. I won’t be back!

wonderful, clean room; very spacious, especially for both European and an older (but well-updated) building. The breakfast was great, as were all amenities, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The location is 5-10 minutes from Waverley Station and 10 minutes from the old town tourist section. Many places to eat and shop are nearby, and it is also conveniently located right next to both the city tour bus and the city bus terminal for other excursion tours. Will stay again next time in Edinburgh.

Very friendly and efficient staff at check in. We arrived at about 12:30, expecting to leave our bags and return at 15:00 to check into our room but our room was ready so we were able to check in earlier. We booked for two nights and a nice touch was offering us a drink at the bar if we did not have our room serviced. We cannot comment upon the food as we did not eat in the hotel. The room was spacious and spotlessly clean with a lovely big bathroom. The hotel's location is excellent for shopping, sightseeing and has lots of dining options within easy walking distance. It's a short walk to the hotel from Waverly station and there is a tram stop within 100m of the hotel. Overall the hotel was great to stay in and is in a fantastic location, we will definitely return

We slept well and it was very quiet. However, check-in was a huge disappointment. The man checking us in was quite rude and although we arrived late, we were told our room wasn’t ready with no explanation as to why. When we got in our room it was dirty - the shower was filthy and there was no tissues. Very disappointed.

Spent a week at the Malmaison. Location was fantastic. Walking distance to everything. Airport Tram stops 50 meters from the hotel. Hop On Hop Off bus stops directly out front. Room was comfortable if a bit small. Nice to have air conditioning and bathroom facilities were very nice. Breakfast was very good, though options were limited.

Nice big room. Could have done with a small sofa as I felt there was alot of wasted space. Also my wife would have liked a light at the mirror for doing her makeup as room decor is dark. Staff polite. Great location. I would stay here again but not 1st choice. Room 608 you can hear the music from bar quite notciably which is disappointing for a club room.

So many problems I wouldn’t stay again for the price Travelodge would suffice! Not keeping to timing of room service having placed the order three hours earlier making 30 minutes over time requested; not attempting to clear the trays and replenishing courtesy trays until I requested then forgetting cups!; reception not promptly answering the phone and connecting had to call the reception from my mobile!; when room service delivered just one fork for the two of us my friend voted to use a teaspoon to eat broccoli! Finally for this report the restaurant I knocked the kitchen door on three separate times to get service as 1) coffee grounds needed changing 2) no melon fruit salad 3) no bowls! Fed up with the whole thing!!!!

Hotel was clean and cosy only compliant we’re some staff. Breakfast supposed to be served to 11 but staff were rude and clearly wanted to leave from 10:30. Reception told we could order room service but when trying to do so it was impossible and they seldom answered the phone. Bar staff were great though

This boutique hotel has great decor, service and a wonderful central location near Princes Street Gardens. It was also quiet which we much appreciated. The continental breakfast was quite good (there was a cooked option too). We only ate dinner once at the restaurant as there were many options available in the area. The tram comes directly from the airport to St. Andrews Square too...very convenient. We would definintely stay at this hotel again.

This was a wonderful hotel, totally redone 6 years ago, so everything was brand new and spotless. Our room was a generous size, and with an especially nice bathroom. We loved the location, right on lovely St. Andrew's Square, just 5 minutes walk from the National Galleries and tram stop for the airport, and just 10 minutes walk from the Royal Mile. The staff were super friendly and helpful, including assisting us with tracking down luggage that SAS had left in Copenhagen. The in-house restaurant was lovely too.

A quick 4-night stay after a business trip. The bar is great, food is great (Wednesday was half-price steak night), staff were fantastic. We’d stay here again without hesitation!
