Great location, view, and room. Loved having the free drinks on the 5th floor. Also enjoyed using the outdoor terrace. Real plants in the lobby and bamboo (I think) cards really are a nice touch. Breakfast was served in the same area that everything else is free so I grabbed some thinking that it was also free.. that was a bit confusing, and staff acted as if I was trying to steal a five pound meal. Need more signs and better communication. Other than that, everything was lovely.

Really nice modern studio apartments. Friendly staff, easy to check in and out. Clean and lovely communal areas. Room is a reasonable size and comfortable. Breakfast was nice, buffet style with various options (not a full english). Access to soft drinks in the communal area 24 7 is a nice touch. I'd happily stay again.

Room was fine. Area round the hotel is ok. Near Aldgate East tube. They make you check yourself in at reception though, including manually entering your passport/ID, name, address, date of birth etc details on a tablet at reception while the staff look on at you. Quite bizarre and not something I've ever seen before. I could have been checking myself in as Donald Duck for a start.

We needed an easy, dog-friendly place to crash for 2 nights. Whitechapel is not the most beautiful area but there are tons of restaurants, markets, pubs, parks, etc. You've got the river and bridges to the south, Hackney to the north and Soho to the west so it’s relatively central. Transport options are good and there's Macro Food Centre right across the street for quality produce and groceries. The hotel itself is clean and everything in pretty new condition. Kitchen has a kettle with small coffee/tea set up, fridge has two free water bottles and milk, bathroom has Le Labo toiletries. Water pressure was strong only in the morning. Sadly the bed was small and lumpy with just one thin duvet barely covering it. No extra bedding and super lumpy pillows too. The window only opens a crack so ventilation isn't great. Our thermostat and safe were broken. Both mornings on our way out, we asked the receptionist to send someone up to fix them while we were gone. Both times we came back in the evening and still no one had ever come to fix them nor did any maids ever even tidy the room. The gym is small but clean, open 24 hours and in good condition. Breakfast is a common “continental” spread with pastries, cheese and meat slices. Not worth paying for with so many better options in the area. When we asked about the "free bottle of wine" we were given a tiny single serving bottle lol. Overall it's clean with good location and price. But let down in service and amenities.

Initially found the bed was slightly broken and asked to be changed to another room which they did very willingly but then when it came back, they gave me the same room and the issue was still present that given another room again. It was walking distance to the train, hoho, the tower castle and bridge. The property was very nice. Felt super safe. They have a terrace on 5 that was very enjoyable. Staff was friendly. Would definitely stay here again.

The bed was not as clean as it should have been. Dust balls and other lint that made it seem like it was not recently cleaned. Lights in bathroom didn’t work so took a shower in the dark. On the last evening, there was a loud buzzing sound all night. I slept 2 hours and then boarded a 9 hour flight. Liked the facilities but disappointed the room didn’t seem to be checked for things like lights just not working.

Sheets/pillows on the bed smelled horrible, like they'd been sweated on and used. No real room cleaning, even on request. Weird shower that gets entire bathroom floor wet. Quite noisy from traffic in the area. We got a note on the second day that water would be unavailable all day on our third day.. first time I have ever been told in a hotel that water is not available! Staff were nice. Concept is nice, and the tea/coffee is a nice perk.

The hotel staff was very friendly and there were three elevators that can be used. The room was large, but didn’t seem to be cleaned very well before our stay. There were parts of the floor that were sticky and there was old food left in the refrigerator. The couch looked a little bit dingy and dirty and could use a good steam clean otherwise very close to public transportation and easy to walk to surrounding areas. I was very happy to see shampoo, conditioner, and body wash available in the shower.

Bed wasn’t very comfortable, stains all over the carpet, shower didn’t drain which meant we had to keep switching it off or stand in water. Staff very friendly and a nice atmosphere to the hotel, just expected a little more from the accommodation

Property is a good size, has good amenities and looked nice all things considered. However, we found the property was not sufficiently cleaned, we found in particular makeup stains everywhere. The white sheets, the throw pillows and the curtains all had foundation stains on them. Even the glasses did not seem properly cleaned.

I've been at The Gate for 8 nights; everything was good a part the fact that they have never changed the linings (with a clearly visible vomit stain of my daughter) and they have never hoovered the floor. Once comunicated at the check-out they only said that it probably was a miscomunication with their cleaning team and that they are a eco-friendly structure.

There was hair found on each of the three cushions. And as they were stacked against pillows, they left the smell on the pillows. It is a simple fix though — clean the cushions each time as you would pillowcases and sheets etc.

Second time we’ve stayed here. Modern and clean aparthotel with Smart TV in the lounge area and in the bedroom which is always a great amenity as not a lot of hotels offer this. Helpful service from staff. Walking distance to public transport and in a location full of restaurants, shops, coffee shops, and a Boom Battle Bar. We’d stay here again.

Pros: Excellent location for transportation access; felt safe; quiet if window closed, otherwise lots of city traffic noise/sirens; good options for restaurants and small markets nearby; bed comfortably medium; bathroom small but clean, shower roomy and good water pressure and plenty of hot water (scalding if you’re not careful); free lounge access/drinks is nice touch, including some outdoor seating; view interesting even though we were only on 4th floor- might be worth asking for a higher floor when booking. Cons: thermostat definitely not intuitive and no instructions, kept defaulting to higher temp; same with oven that seemed like it could do more if we knew how to use it; only a duvet on bed, optional lighter blanket would have been good; bed legs a hazard for toes- had to put pillows on floor against the legs to avoid constantly hitting them; continental breakfast probably not worth the cost, esp as there are good breakfast places nearby at comparable price.

We enjoyed the size of the rooms with kitchenette, sofa, nice bathroom and bedroom. We had a great view of the street below. Breakfast was good, but no hot choices other than a boiled egg. The area wasn't the best, but the underground was nearby so everything was acessible that way.

We loved the lounge and the room was good. The only knock I have is the bathroom. It is sleek as is the rest of the facility, but function has been sacrificed. It is a large wet bath. The entire floor gets wet with a shower so no socks the rest of the night and there is no counter space in the bathroom.

Our room had the capacity to host a family of three and use a kitchenette that includes an oven and hot plates. In terms of comfort, the convertible sofa bed was quite rough with a metal bar running right under the mattress in the middle. Our main issue was the eco-friendly water pressure. It got so low at times that rincing the nice, foamy shampoo and soap proved challenging.

Had to book this stay last minute because our VRBO host ghosted us, and we had to scramble to find a place for 11 nights after arriving in London. This place was honestly the best place we could have stayed. Clean, quiet, conveniently located, and every single staff member we interacted with was incredible! Every staff person went above and beyond for us, and we felt so welcomed in London after the fiasco of losing our place to stay. I didn’t realize housekeeping didn’t take care of dishes at first, and after I asked them about it, they even went out of their way to wash my dishes the first day even after I found out they didn’t provide that. So kind!! Check in/out was seamless, hosts, breakfast staff (shoutout to Augustine and Mariza!!), and housekeepers were all so hospitable and accommodating, and I definitely would recommend this hotel to anyone coming to the area. Also, the avocado toast and smoked salmon and fresh juice in the mornings made my mornings! So yummy. As someone who has also worked in the hospitality industry before, I was genuinely impressed by the care and intentionality the staff took here. The property is not bad and close to a train station. The problem was the hospitality, it gets a -10 from me. As a guest in your hotel I'm expected to be treated kindly and helped in all ways possible. That was not the case, very poorly hospitality this hotel has, not one day I entered the doors and received a Hello. One day my phone got stolen and I needed to communicate with my family in Puerto Rico to let them know something has happened. They helped 0, first the phone at the hotel wasn't making any calls to PR so I asked for any other solution they could give me and it was none. Im a problem solver so that for me was so unkind of the hotel staff. It was the worst feeling to be in a foreigner country without the help of the place that you are staying in. Just for that, my review is 0 and will never stay again.

I liked our stayed, a few things I can point out that were inconveniencing. First there is no way to contact the front desk in the room, they ask that you te t from whatsup and no way around that. Also our power kept going out and WIFi. We had to call a few times. They did comp us breakfast for the troubles. Over all it was a good stay. Great views.

The property itself is very close to bars, the underground, Spitalfields with plenty of dining options. The apartment was well equipped. The only downside was an issue with the air con. We reported this at reception as the room temperature reached 24° and we were told someone would look in to it. When we returned it hadn’t been fixed, I’m not too sure anyone had even looked at it and no one knocked on the door later that night to see if they could fix it. After a long day exploring the area we were just too tired to ask again and most importantly, I feel like we shouldn’t have to report the same issue twice. It made for a slightly uncomfortable night and a speedy exit in the morning.

I get the feeling management doesn't care about the employees... that trickles down to the guests. If it's one staff member, bad apple. If it's most of the staff who really doesn't care about you other than checking you in and out, don't bother anything else in between... they'll just tell you whatever to get you to hopefully stop asking questions

We wanted to be in London and to be in easy access of all ours events we were attending. I considered staying close to London Bridge but for the price I paid at The Gate I would have got just a bedroom and shower. The Gate offers a minute walk to Aldgate East Station with a wide variety of restaurants in short walking distance. The best part is we had a whole apartment with views of London. We chose the Penthouse and felt we got a bargain. Separate lounge to the bedroom with a dining table for four. The kitchen was compact but tick almost all the boxes. There was no toaster so we used the oven, problem solved. There was a washing machine and dishwasher but for a three night stay was not needed. The bathroom was filled with top quality shampoo and conditioner too. In the fifth floor you have access to 24hr hot and cold drinks if you should need and plenty of seating to relax if you want to be out of your room. There was even an outdoor section with a bbq that my husband saw. All in all I would happily visit this hotel again as it was convenient to access to London and was spacious for the money. The reception staff were also fabulous and friendly.

Perfect spot for a longer stay. I was in town for three weeks for work and needed a kitchen and washer/dryer. The Gate was a 20 minute walk from my office but a five minute walk to the nearest Tube station which came in handy often. A great macro market across the street with fresh food, and some of the best Indian food in London in a quick waking distance.

We needed an easy, dog-friendly place to crash for 2 nights. Whitechapel is not the most beautiful area but there are tons of restaurants, markets, pubs, parks, etc. You've got the river and bridges to the south, Hackney to the north and Soho to the west so it’s relatively central. Transport options are good and there's Macro Food Centre right across the street for quality produce and groceries. The hotel itself is clean and everything in pretty new condition. Kitchen has a kettle with small coffee/tea set up, fridge has two free water bottles and milk, bathroom has Le Labo toiletries. Water pressure was strong only in the morning. Sadly the bed was small and lumpy with just one thin duvet barely covering it. No extra bedding and super lumpy pillows too. The window only opens a crack so ventilation isn't great. Our thermostat and safe were broken. Both mornings on our way out, we asked the receptionist to send someone up to fix them while we were gone. Both times we came back in the evening and still no one had ever come to fix them nor did any maids ever even tidy the room. The gym is small but clean, open 24 hours and in good condition. Breakfast is a common “continental” spread with pastries, cheese and meat slices. Not worth paying for with so many better options in the area. When we asked about the "free bottle of wine" we were given a tiny single serving bottle lol. Overall it's clean with good location and price. But let down in service and amenities.

Great location, view, and room. Loved having the free drinks on the 5th floor. Also enjoyed using the outdoor terrace. Real plants in the lobby and bamboo (I think) cards really are a nice touch. Breakfast was served in the same area that everything else is free so I grabbed some thinking that it was also free.. that was a bit confusing, and staff acted as if I was trying to steal a five pound meal. Need more signs and better communication. Other than that, everything was lovely.

Really nice modern studio apartments. Friendly staff, easy to check in and out. Clean and lovely communal areas. Room is a reasonable size and comfortable. Breakfast was nice, buffet style with various options (not a full english). Access to soft drinks in the communal area 24 7 is a nice touch. I'd happily stay again.

Had a really lovely stay for mine and my sister’s 1st time here. We got upgraded to a suite which was beautiful. Thank you to Mohamed and everyone there for a brilliant stay. The customer service was top notch and the breakfast was seriously superb. A really diverse and very fresh selection, we were so grateful since you don’t get that in many hotels and especially at such a cheap price. It’s less than 5 minutes walk from the tube which was a major bonus and there were lots of shops and restaurants around so it wasn’t isolating. Can’t wait to come back soon!

Initially found the bed was slightly broken and asked to be changed to another room which they did very willingly but then when it came back, they gave me the same room and the issue was still present that given another room again. Annoyingly, the coffee machine in the lounge was always ‘taking a break.’ and breakfast was rather poor for the price with no cooked foods available But other than that, it was a comfortable stay..
