KEX Hotel

Great hotel to stay at and really nice setup. No onsite parking so you have to pay at a nearby parking garage, but otherwise a wonderful setup.

Very easy location for walking and taking transit. There was a massive pile of poop on the sidewalk right outside the hotel, which was probably not the ambiance you’re going for. I did appreciate the lobby bar was inviting and lively (unfortunately, we did not have a chance to enjoy any drinks during our stay). I liked the onsite gym, and LOVED the sauna. The coffee and tea selection was also very nice, and the lobby is so warmly furnished and decorated. The shower in our en suite private room was unexpectedly great (with the knobs and soap on the opposite side from the shower head), I would definitely like that setup in my own home. I thought the toiletries were a bit too fragrant. The hair dryer was awesome, and I want one for myself.

Stayed at KEX for the weekend due to its close proximity to the convention center, and I was not disappointed. Check in was quick and the desk staff were helpful. We stayed in the King room with a private bath and I was pleasantly surprised. It was a lot larger than expected, and the decor was great. The AC was a lifesaver, given we were in the city during one of the hottest weeks of the year. Lots of great reataurants and cafes were around as well. The only cons were that there is no parking on the property and we weren't able to go to the roof deck/bar due to the warm weather. That being said there are a number of lots nearby, including a covered one like a block away, so it wasn't the end of the world. Definitely would stay here again!

Really cool hotel. It even had a sauna which was really relaxing. It’s downtown Portland but quiet and good nights sleep and walking distance to Oregon Convention Center. Also very reasonably priced. I would definitely stay there again.

The people at front desk were very nice and helpful. I loved the downstairs lobby/bar restaurant atmosphere as well. I utilized the workout room, and while it was functional I might try to dress it up a little bit. It might be nice to have some maps of Portland around too, so perhaps different neighborhoods can be circled/recommended?

Amazing property, a must stay. I’ve never seen such an adorable and well kept hostel/hotel. It is the best bang for your buck!! Staff are amazing, all amenities provided and has a bar and rooftop restaurant. Very cute place, I will be staying here again.

KEX was an awesome place to stay! The sauna was great and the lobby restaurant, Pacific Standard, was super impressive. Gorgeous lobby/restaurant! The staff were super nice and accommodating.

Love staying here. Front desk is always friendly and very helpful. The only thing I would change is the parking situation.

I was staying overnight after getting in on a late flight from Chicago. Emails communication was clear and succinct. Getting there via rideshare from the airport was easy enough. Check in was seamless. The pillow and mattress were both very comfortable. They provided earplugs because they were cognizant of the late-night noises of the area. There were carafes of water with glasses provided in the room as well. Shared bathrooms were very clean and hygienic. And check out was also straightforward. Very pleasant experience, I would definitely stay here again if I needed an overnight spot and would happily recommend it to others.

This was a very nice hostel and I felt very safe. I stayed in 4 person bunk room with all women and it was very nice! The doors can only be opened with a keycard for that room. The sheets and bed were very clean and comfortable. I slept in the bottom bunk that had a little curtain which made me feel like I had my own little space. The bathroom was down the hall and was very clean.

My stay at KEX was amazing. It was super easy to get to and from the convention center and the transit, like at 10ish minute walk. The staff and everyone there was great. My room was clean and a more than reasonable size for a shared room. My only hold up is that it did not seem like the shared bathrooms were not cleaned too often. The trash was overflowing and the sink and toilet weren’t the cleanest, however I was also there at an incredibly busy time so I wouldn’t hold that against them too much because it was clean the first day or two. Over all I had a great time and if I’m ever back in Portland I know where I’ll be staying!

Such a great place to stay! Super fun bar & dining options, easy to get to transit, and peaceful, pretty, comfty room (I opted for the single room and loved it)! Since this is a hostel, keep in mind some hotel-like services are not available (like a robe, daily room cleaning) and some maintenance items weren’t perfect (some duct tape on the shower and a bit of a musty shower smell), but it didn’t impact my stay negatively. The bed, restaurants, sauna, and location more than make up for it. Amazing, kind front desk staff, too. Thanks for a wonderful visit!

It was very clean, bed was comfortable, and conveniently located. I loved the bar downstairs, and the rooms came with water. I never had to wait for a bathroom and the bathrooms were super clean. Staff were amazing and I would absolutely stay again.

I really enjoyed my time at the KEX hotel! The rooms were kept nice and the bedding was so good. (I stayed in a shared room) The bathroom was clean, the food was good, the drinks were good! The staff were so kind! The only con is the parking…there isn’t a designated parking lot for the hotel and most of the time i had to circle around to find a spot. However the staff up front are more than knowledgeable about when and where ti park. (The website more than likely shares about the parking,I just don’t recall)

Overall good stay for a weekend in Portland, Pretty noisy, “deluxe queen room” with its own bathroom was directly located beside shared one. Nightly interruptions. Small room, showering set off fire alarm in room. Booked late check out (2pm) during check-in. Still got a call from reception at 11am asking why I haven’t left the room yet - mediocre experience.

Property as well located, the individual rooms are fairly small, but certainly better than a shared bathroom in my opinion. Really enjoy the staff except for the front desk guy in the evening. There are two parking spaces in front of the hotel and we were parked in one just having a conversation as I was being dropped off. No one ever entered the space behind us. He walked out and exclaimed that we needed to move because we had been there for more than 15 minutes, and the bar was requesting our car to be moved. It was laughable that in someway, we were inconveniencing anything. For a pretty hip place, that was not a live and let live approach. Other than that, I enjoyed the stay

Love the features of a hostel. I hate paying high hotel rates to visit a city. So it has everything I need. One downside is the amount of noise I can hear from the street one of the windows couldn’t be closed so it was a bit loud.

I hadn't stayed in a multi-bed dormitory in decades. But this was nice! Very quiet, with climate control, black-out curtains, and privacy curtains for each bed. Drinking water, towels, and even earplugs were provided in the room. My bunk bed was SOOOOO comfy! And each bed has an enormous drawer into which you can put your stuff. You can rent a lock for the drawer for $4. The bathrooms (three on my floor) were always clean, and somehow always open (I never had to wait). Nice showers, with shampoo & body wash provided. Right outside the four-bunk room where I stayed was a nice little lounge area where I could sit in a cushy chair and work on my laptop (while charging it). The restaurant/bar area is classy and obviously popular, but I didn't hang out there much.

The hotel was really unique and very cool but the bed wasn’t comfortable.

Really enjoyed staying here! Was my first time in a hostel and I honestly felt totally safe. The rooms were nice and clean and the staff were friendly. They provided water, towels, soap, and earplugs and plenty of storage underneath the bunks. There's space for a padlock for each storage drawer.

The hotel itself was amazing and surpassed EVERY expectation I had. But what made the stay memorable was a member of your front desk staff. I think his name was Vince, and he was working the overnight shift during my stay. Despite having worked 8 nights in a row, he was more than happy to have wonderful 4am conversations with my jet-lagged self. He spoke highly of the hotel and his superiors, which shows that Kex Portland actually cares about their employees. My stay was memorable and if I find myself out that way again, I’ll definitely stay with Kex. Omg and the BEDS! I have never had such a soft, fluffy, and luxurious sleep in my life!

The day manager was uppity and wouldn't let me hang out in the lobby restaurant area until check in, despite having already stayed there 6 nights. All I was doing was sitting in a chair, no drinking or loud disruptive behavior. I'm older and use a walker, so I wonder if it just wasn't their style. Really bad treatment - she refused to let me stay another night as well, as if I had broke rules or committed a crime. I had to leave and find another hotel. Just really bad. Otherwise the place is Great! All they need to do is get rid of her.

Hotel was not ready by 3pm. I arrived at 2:30 and was told to wait in the lobby as check in time was not until 3pm. Well, at 3pm I was then told they didn’t have a room, they forgot to clean our room. Long story short, I didn’t get into my room until 3:40pm.

If KEX Portland would be more honest about their refund policy, and return my money for a stay that I never received, I might be inclined to give them a higher rating. Otherwise, please be advised that KEX Portland is a dishonest business, even toward its returning customers. After I booked in advance and paid on Expedia, they refused to give me a room or offer a refund. My first stay here was the night of October 18-19, 2024. Since the location was convenient in Downtown Portland, I reserved a room for a second time for the night of May 23-24, 2025. I showed up on May 23 with my ID but no credit card. They could not allow me to stay without my credit card, nor would they offer me a refund, so I had to sleep in my car that night without getting my money back. Their general manager told me that too long a time had passed by May 26 for me to receive a refund. I didn't see her message on Expedia because I was in Portland for the Memorial Day weekend and otherwise had no access to Wi-Fi to see her message. Regardless, they also offered me a discounted future stay, but refused to answer further when I inquired about it. It's bad enough that this is how they would treat a returning customer. But refusing a refund, forcing me to sleep on the streets, and failing to honor a commitment to a discounted future stay are all extremely dishonest and shady business practices. I am posting this so potential travelers won't experience the same thievery from KEX Portland that I did.

We loved KEX Portland! Such a unique spot with beautiful retro decor. The front desk guy Jermaine was awesome, so friendly and helpful. Walkable to restaurants and breweries. Would def stay again!

Arrived today, excited for my reservation today and was told that I was banned from their hotel because I was smoking cigarettes in the room the last time I stayed there (few nights ago) They said they had documentation of the evidence and there was ashes in the bed, cigs in the toilet, and evidence in other spots. I would have totally understood the ban, except I DO NOT SMOKE CIGARETTES. I don’t know what kind of of tom foolery you have going on, but this ruined a big part of my 40th birthday celebration. I will be getting my attorney on this and make things right. I can’t believe this happened. Maybe one of your employees smoked during their break or something, but as I stated before, I DO NOT SMOKE. They also didn’t call or email me, so I show up to this. You made a mistake and will have reprocussions. Ooooh boy you’re going to be paying. I will happily take every dollar you have and find much joy in it.

We liked the retro style and also the excellent bar. Comfy bed, good bathroom. Parking was challenging. Lots of homeless people in the streets of this part of Portland but they seem harmless.

Beds were very comfortable. Rooms clean. The block the hotel is on feels pretty safe. Venturing only a few blocks away made me feel very uncomfortable

Location is excellent. Public transportation is within feet of the hotel and great coffee shops are nearby. The hotel offers several types of rooms—for single guests and larger groups. Very helpful front desk help.

I booked this hotel because it was in walking distance to the Moda Center. I booked a queen room with private bathroom. The room was very small but clean. Very friendly staff, I would stay here again.

The property itself is great, but the surrounding area is not. I parked my car in a designated lot (paid) across the street and had my catalytic converter stolen. Downtown Portland has become kind of a dystopian Mad Max sh*thole. You can’t walk anywhere without seeing tents and passed out homeless people. Went for a run along the river and was really shocked at how filthy this town has become.

I traveled to a Portland for business. The hotel is really convenient if you have conference at the Oregon convention center which is 7 minutes walk from the hotel. There are also a couple of public transportation options quickly accessible. Despite the restaurant in the lobby, the rooms are rather quiet. No breakfast but several nice bakeries and coffees round the corner and free coffee available and cosy sofas to stay in the morning.

KEX offered free drip coffee there in the morning as well, so it’s where my days began as well. Location is next to lots of dining and a few James Beard winners. Daily runs over the Burnside Bridge to the waterfront makes it a perfect stay.

Loved the stay; we booked a family room. It was great to have bunks for our kids in room, instead of having to purchase multiple rooms. The atmosphere in the hotel had such a fun vibe and was a comfortable space. We weren't huge fans that the only parking garage was a 15 min walk from the hotel, across the bridge, and street parking was not easy to find. Other than the parking and the slightly gross side streets (with lots of homeless or way to high individuals) we loved our stay.

Reception was great. Room was clean, very comfortable...new fixtures, new tile but all old style to go with the building... Lobby is definitely the living room of the neighborhood...very comfortable seating, good drinks at the bar, good food options..people hung out that were staying at the hotel, and others that were staying in other hotels and people from the neighborhood...great music playlist... Highly recommend...

Great lobby space to work in. Great food and drink. King bedroom was perfect for my needs. Walkable neighborhood with lots of food, bar, entertainment options.

We love the location in proximity to the Moda Center. Rooms are comfortable, downstairs restaurant/bar has good happy hour and comfortable accommodation.

Pacific Standard is an excellent bar on its own merits. We appreciated the ability to get food late and take it up to our rooms. We were able to park our car on the Friday and not touch it again until we left on the Sunday. Room was good. Toilet paper holder was flimsy and the paint job was a bit strange but overall it was fine. Would stay again.
