Hotel Ma'xanab Tulum

The overall impression from this hotel is very unsatisfactory. We stayed for 3 nights and out of these 3 nights our shower was not working for 2 nights. When asked, we were told that we just do not how to turn the water on. Admitting that we might be too stupid to turn on the shower, we asked the receptionist to show us how to turn it on. Turns out, the shower was not working properly from the beginning. At least, one day we could shower😉 I was expecting a holiday where I can go in the gym in the morning but the gym has the equipment that is at least 20-30 years old. Housekeeping would come after 2 PM and often did not take the rubbish nor fill in the coffee tabs. The breakfast was very tasty but a bit too little served- only one egg or toast dish, one coffee and one juice. Nevertheless, the location of the hotel is great and you have a free parking! If it was rated with 3 stars I would not be disappointed, but for 5 starts they need to do much, much better.

The hotel was so beautiful! What a relaxing place - and we received a complimentary breakfast every day - delivered to our room. The hotel was so lovely - a sweet private pool on the balcony and lovely beds to lie on on the beach.

I must say this hotel was amazing in every aspect. The food was extreme good and tasty, worth the pricing. The view from our room was absolutely beautiful, there is a lot of sargassum in the beach so you don’t get to enjoy it much, but the resort as its details was absolutely amazing ! The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating, the customer service was great. We had massages by Deisy and Luis and they were so relaxing. Sofia and Valentina at the front desk were amazing from the beginning and very helpful with information. The hotel is only for adults, therefore it was nice to enjoy the peacefulness and quietness of it. I highly recommend this hotel if you’re traveling from anywhere and you want to go relax at a beautiful hotel. The only downside was the AC in the rooms doesn’t cool enough and there’s no TV in the hotel rooms or hotel areas. The bed and pillows were a little hard and not as comfortable as I thought they would be.

Our stay was excellent, this hotel is the perfect place to unplug and relax. The property is beautiful, and the on-site restaurant was outstanding. We dined there multiple times during our stay and even returned after we had checked out. Although it was sargazo (seaweed) season and we couldn’t fully enjoy the beach club, the exceptional service at the pool and restaurant more than made up for it. Special thanks to the servers Walter, Hermelindo, Jose, and Luis who provided top-notch service throughout our visit. The concierge and hotel hosts were available from morning to evening, and both Armando and Valeria were incredibly helpful. They assisted with restaurant reservations, gave great local recommendations, and even arranged a rental car to be delivered directly to the hotel. Overall, the service was a 10 out of 10 and made our stay truly memorable. We will return.

Had such an exceptional stay at Maxanab (Ma-shah-nab). From the time of booking until we left, everything was just phenomenal. As soon as our booking was confirmed the Hotel then reached out if we needed assistance with anything. Checking in was quick and communication was great with front desk and restaurant through watsapp. Our room was beautiful and relaxing and was turned down everyday. Location is good. You can borrow their bikes and visit other resorts and restaurants/shops outside for an easy 10-20min ride or less. The beachfront was beautiful but unfortunately it was seaweed season for July and we were not able to swim at the beach. The restaurant also serves amazing food! There are so many good and wonderful things about this hotel that is hard to mention without having to write such a long review so its best to just go there and experience it yourself. The only very minor thing i would change is to have their hair dryer blow both hot and cold and not just cold air. the staff from housekeeping to restaurant staff and front desk were wonderful. The ladies were helpful and gave us wonderful recommendations about where to go and eat! Here at Maxanab, its pricey but you get what you pay for, an enjoyable, luxurious and wonderful experience! This hotel definitely made our trip to Tulum a memorable one!

The loveliest boutique hotel in Tulum! The room was modern and spacious, but what really sets Ma’xanab apart from the rest is the service. Before we had even arrived, the concierges were reaching out via WhatsApp to offer assistance planning our trip. They helped us book transportation, excisions, and massages. We felt most comfortable booking through the hotel to ensure quality and safety, they won’t lead you astray. The restaurant staff were friendly and the food was some of the best we had in Tulum. Fresh fruit and delicious breakfast was included every day. They also had bicycles for us to use, which allowed us to visit the Parque del Jaguar, town, and various restaurants. The bikes were free of charge and made everything much more accessible. We loved every moment and would recommend to any couple looking for a romantic getaway. Thank you Fabiola, Valeria, and Jose or making our vacation so wonderful!

By day 2, I’d have a coffee served to me, before I even sat down, just the way I ordered it the day before. And Mario was particularly helpful, checking in on us every hour and providing suggestions on where to spend our time. Trust the staff to steer you in the right direction. The property is small, yet breathtaking, with large rooms nestled in a jungle setting. My room had an outdoor shower, and my fridge was stocked daily with complimentary cold water, cookies and nuts. The gym was tiny but had enough free weights and a pull up bar to make for a good workout. I loved that there was no need to wake up early to reserve beach chairs. This hotel ensures guests are a priority and help set up our beach chairs, umbrellas and towels daily. The only negatives -- the general expense of Tulum and the treacherous walk from the hotel to the nightlife. No sidewalks, little lighting and too many vehicles. Tulum is expensive with its boho-chic vibe and night scene. Dinners and drinks were more expensive here than Toronto. So come prepared to spend if you like to shop or eat well.

The hotel is small and there were never a lot of guests around which was exactly what we wanted. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful with anything you need which was appreciated as it was our first time in the area and needed assistance navigating the area, booking day trips, etc. A few “cons” for us: The menu is fairly small and got sick of breakfast options by the end of the week. The hotel “gym” is very limited.

7 nights in June ‘24. Can’t imagine there’s a better place to stay in Tulum unless you prefer crowded crazy loud nightclub like atmosphere that dominates Tulum down the road a mile or so. Great beach with few people in the area. Ample beds and chairs. Fantastic food and service….really really good. Pleasant music, not too loud or obtrusive. Enjoyed conversing with staff. Hermelindo full of joy every morning. Milo, very professional but a joker of sort. Roger, Luis, Bricio, Walter, all top notch. Rooms are gorgeous and sexy. Plunge pool on deck 95 degrees F nominally set to heat in evenings but they will fire up earlier if you prefer mornings or afternoon. Outdoor shower fantastic. Never used larger indoor shower. Pool is very nice and rare in Tulum. Chairs in shade of palms. Staff up front couldn’t be more helpful and accommodating. All the water you want, ice, cookies. 2x daily maid service including turn down. Cool little bracelet with hip that serves as room key. Layout of facility sort of like tree house in jungle with wood walkways and stairs throughout cluster of stone buildings. All beautiful. Huge sea turtles hit beach twice on our visit. It’s a magical place.

Hands down one of the best hotel experiences I have ever had in the world. Clean, beautiful aesthetic, friendly over the top accommodating staff. The food was also absolutely to die for. I also will be breaking my go to high end European bath products and will be buying the brand they use here called loredana. I will absolutely be back. We also walked off resort every evening very late and felt totally safe.

When we first entered the hotel, we were a little disappointment because of the seaweed on the beach to find out that it was down the whole coast anyway however, our choice to stay at this hotel was an unbelievable experience. Probably one of the cleanest hotels I've ever stayed out in my entire life. The staff was so kind and respectable and couldn't do enough for us, and also only ate lunch there, but the food was incredible. I would definitely recommend it.

Special recognition is due to Jose, Milo, Leonardo, and Mario, whose dedication and kindness have elevated this hotel to a luxurious oasis, with their warm hearts being the ultimate luxury. The genuine connections they fostered with us, sharing laughter and stories, as well as discussing our families, have made this vacation truly special. The exemplary service provided by these staff members has earned this hotel a reputation as a true gem in Tulum; accolades are well-deserved. These guys deserve a big bonus or at the very least a giant thank you for their services.

The room was musty. The service from the waiters was the best part of our stay. We ended up going to Akumal to a beach club there. The smell of the seaweed made it impossible to stay around long. Of course, this is no fault to the hotel. Just something to know. It appears this probably used to be a nice place to stay. But, they are not a above a two star establishement. We have stayed in other places for the same cost in the Riveria Maya. They had many more amenities and were much cleaner than this place. We usually ate breakfast and left for the day.

Our experience during our stay was nothing short of amazing. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and easily accessible. The hotel room was very spacious and clean. The beach access and amenities make this hotel stay totally worth it.

Excellent service, great grounds, beautiful beach and food is phenomenal. Rooms are spacious but beware mosquitoes. Our room had constant mosquitos in it, if your type to get bitten, bring deet. My husband and I got eaten up. If you’re sensitive to noise, bring earplugs, you hear birds very loudly starting 6am.

I enjoyed the fact that it was extremely private and every room is a suite with a private balcony, hot tube, cabana, and outdoor shower. You were instantly wisked away and taken to another place the minute u walked past the concierge. There is an on sight restaurant overlooking the beach. It is very quiet and serene. You are given the illusion that you are in the heart of the forest without being in any danger from wildlife. If you want a calm and relaxing getaway this is the place to be.

Not worth the higher price vs some of the other hotels on the main road. The shower was facing the backyard with no way to cover the glass so someone on the balcony on the room next to us could see us naked. Power went out so AC stopped working. Breakfast was delicious, welcome drink was nonalcoholic.

We had a wonderful stay at Ma'xanab for 6 nights in April. The room was spacious, well designed and luxurious. The balcony and it's view were truly amazing. The hotel itself has a beautiful design. The breakfast was served at the hotel's restaurant or in the room. We tried most of their breakfast options and had dinner there a couple times. Overall their restaurant's food was great. The highlight of our stay however was their front desk staff. Very helpful and friendly. They were always a text away to help us with recommendations, helping us with reservations or any requests. They really made our stay special. We would definitely be back!

Hotel Ma'xanab is a charming boutique hotel with a spectacular beachfront. The rooms in particular are lovely - large and stylishly fit out; ours came with a plant-filled terrace and plunge pool. The real stand-out about this hotel, however, is the staff. They are exceedingly accommodating and knowledgeable. Particular shout-outs to Jose, Milo, Diego and the rest of the reception staff. We would highly recommend this hotel.

A Truly Exceptional Stay at Maxanab Hotel – 7 Stars! Nothing short of amazing! The staff went above and beyond, reaching out before my stay to arrange seamless transportation to and from the hotel. While I can’t say for sure if I got the best deal on pricing, it was worth it just to bypass the chaos of airport transportation offers. Once there, I was impressed by the personalized service. The staff knew our names, which at first felt a bit unusual, but I quickly realized it was a thoughtful way to ensure guests’ safety and comfort. The hotel felt intimate and exclusive—almost like a private retreat. The front desk staff are always attentive, monitoring who comes and goes, adding an extra layer of security. The room itself was spacious and well-appointed with a wonderful turndown service. I appreciated their attention to detail. The beachfront was simply perfect—pristine, peaceful, and exactly what you’d hope for in Tulum. The on-site restaurant exceeded expectations, both in quality and service. The included breakfast was a full meal—entree, fruit, and beverage. Compared to food options outside the hotel, dining at Maxanab was both superior in quality and better value for the price. On my next visit, I’ll definitely dine at the resort more often! Overall, this stay was incredible, and I wouldn’t hesitate to return.

My husband and I stayed for a week and loved this property! The rooms were clean and very comfortable and our beach view superb! The staff were attentive and extremely helpful. They recommended many restaurants that were all fantastic!

We really like this hotel in terms of cleaning and and the property conditions in general. However we really disappointing with the amount of noise at night coming into our room from the traffic on the main street and we re not being able to sleep because of that. Staff didnt do anything to help us or move to another room with less noise since they have those available unless we pay more for.

Rude, disrespectful and inconsiderate management. Splurged 6K for the week for the room with the private “pool” which after being in it for 30 minutes, dyed my swimsuit a gross green yellow color that did not come out despite washing it. The manager told me it wasn’t their fault (even though they knew this happened before, and didn’t warn me) and refused to compensate me $175 for the bikini. They never showed any consideration whatsoever, and basically just told me I was wrong. No apologies, no accountability. I was shocked at how rude I was treated, quite frankly. I never expected a hotel this expensive to have such rude staff and absolutely zero customer service skills. The price does not match the experience.

The Maxanab was amazing in all areas! Jose in the restaurant was exceptional! Top notch service and took very good care of us! Everyone on the staff was sure to make it a point we were beyond well taken care of! I can’t wait to go back!

What a magical location! I traveled to Tulum with a friend for a week and we really couldn't fault a thing. From the beautiful setting on the beach, to the restaurant and bar from which to watch the turquoise ocean just steps away; from the incredible staff throughout the property, to the clean and spacious room, which was modern yet very in-fitting with the eco-friendly and jungle-meets-beach environment - we were never disappointed. The food was great - breakfast is included, and you can pick from an extensive menu of hot and cold dishes - and the cocktails go down very well too! A huge shout out to the staff in the property, including the wonderful Sofia, Valeria, Fabiola and Armando on the front desk. Everyone was so helpful and nice, and it's not often you leave a holiday giving big hugs to the hotel team as you go. Taxis into town are around $30, which is standard for Tulum beach, but they are always available. Plenty of eating options within walking distance as well as a cab ride away. Just ask the front desk team for recommendations and they will find something to suit your taste. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and highly recommend the hotel. A slice of Mexican paradise. Hotel was situated in a great location, walking distance to bars and restaurants. Hotel is meant for a quiet vacation--things shut down around 10:30PM. They have limited # of rooms, so the staff was very attentive to our needs. They have bikes you can use as well to get around (streets are narrow, so you need to be careful). We went with a group of 6, and the staff was beyond accommodating, helping us coordinate dinners and excursions. The last night, our AC went out, and they held an extra room for us, so we could have a good nights sleep before our flights. Breakfast menu was limited, but options were delicious!

The most fantastic stay- we were on our honeymoon and the team went above and beyond to make it special. It is right on the beach, and the pool / restaurant feel like a private beach club- secluded and safe. The room was incredible, great facilities and upkeep, and the private pool is worth going for! Food and drinks options are some of the best we have tried. Hotel is also a very short walk from all popular restaurants, bars, and beach clubs. Thanks for everything!

Great small boutique hotel in a good location. Close to all the hot spots in Tulum but no loud clubs immediately nearby, which is nice. Staff is friendly and helpful. Service is excellent in the room, at the restaurant, and on the beach. Restaurant food was good, both for breakfast and for lunch service on the beach. Our stay was amazing and we would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Tulum! The entire staff so so kind and accommodating and went above and beyond for us! The hotel is in a great location, walking distance to downtown, but everything you need is also right outside your door with the beach, pool, and restaurant and bar right there! Great location, great service. All staff is very friendly and courteous. The area is a bit underdeveloped in terms of roads/sidewalks. But that's Tulum, and it's right in the heart. Luckily there is a great drugstore and wine store/convenience across the street that are also well staffed and welcoming.

Great beach with few people in the area. Ample beds and chairs. Fantastic food and service….really really good. Pleasant music, not too loud or obtrusive. Enjoyed conversing with staff. Hermelindo full of joy every morning. Milo, very professional but a joker of sort. Roger, Luis, Bricio, Walter, all top notch. Rooms are gorgeous and sexy. Plunge pool on deck 95 degrees F nominally set to heat in evenings but they will fire up earlier if you prefer mornings or afternoon. Outdoor shower fantastic. Never used larger indoor shower. Pool is very nice and rare in Tulum. Chairs in shade of palms. Staff up front couldn’t be more helpful and accommodating. All the water you want, ice, cookies. 2x daily maid service including turn down. Cool little bracelet with hip that serves as room key. Layout of facility sort of like tree house in jungle with wood walkways and stairs throughout cluster of stone buildings. All beautiful. Huge sea turtles hit beach twice on our visit. It’s a magical place.

The overall impression from this hotel is very unsatisfactory. We stayed for 3 nights and out of these 3 nights our shower was not working for 2 nights. When asked, we were told that we just do not how to turn the water on. Admitting that we might be too stupid to turn on the shower, we asked the receptionist to show us how to turn it on. Turns out, the shower was not working properly from the beginning. At least, one day we could shower😉 I was expecting a holiday where I can go in the gym in the morning but the gym has the equipment that is at least 20-30 years old. Housekeeping would come after 2 PM and often did not take the rubbish nor fill in the coffee tabs. The breakfast was very tasty but a bit too little served- only one egg or toast dish, one coffee and one juice. Nevertheless, the location of the hotel is great and you have a free parking! If it was rated with 3 stars I would not be disappointed, but for 5 starts they need to do much, much better.

Excellent property and the staff are beyond excellent. Highly recommend. All the food is amazing at the hotel, specially the hamachi and mixed ceviche.

This hotel is wonderful. The staff are exceptional. The food was fresh and local specifically the ceviche was unbelievable! The breakfast included was ver nice touch.

Our stay was excellent, this hotel is the perfect place to unplug and relax. The property is beautiful, and the on-site restaurant was outstanding. We dined there multiple times during our stay and even returned after we had checked out. Although it was sargazo (seaweed) season and we couldn’t fully enjoy the beach club, the exceptional service at the pool and restaurant more than made up for it. Special thanks to the servers Walter, Hermelindo, Jose, and Luis who provided top-notch service throughout our visit. The concierge and hotel hosts were available from morning to evening, and both Armando and Valeria were incredibly helpful. They assisted with restaurant reservations, gave great local recommendations, and even arranged a rental car to be delivered directly to the hotel. Overall, the service was a 10 out of 10 and made our stay truly memorable. We will return.

When we first entered the hotel, we were a little disappointment because of the seaweed on the beach to find out that it was down the whole coast anyway however, our choice to stay at this hotel was an unbelievable experience. Probably one of the cleanest hotels I've ever stayed out in my entire life. The staff was so kind and respectable and couldn't do enough for us, and also only ate lunch there, but the food was incredible. I would definitely recommend it.

The loveliest boutique hotel in Tulum! The room was modern and spacious, but what really sets Ma’xanab apart from the rest is the service. Before we had even arrived, the concierges were reaching out via WhatsApp to offer assistance planning our trip. They helped us book transportation, excisions, and massages. We felt most comfortable booking through the hotel to ensure quality and safety, they won’t lead you astray. The restaurant staff were friendly and the food was some of the best we had in Tulum. Fresh fruit and delicious breakfast was included every day. They also had bicycles for us to use, which allowed us to visit the Parque del Jaguar, town, and various restaurants. The bikes were free of charge and made everything much more accessible. We loved every moment and would recommend to any couple looking for a romantic getaway. Thank you Fabiola, Valeria, and Jose or making our vacation so wonderful!

Great experience, The staff of the hotel was very friendly and helpful all the time, I recommend to try the restaurant from the hotel it was really good and breakfast was included in the price, during our stay they helped us with nearby restaurants reservations and also recommending places to visit.

The menu options were great. The chef is very talented. We ate at other restaurants in the area and we actually preferred the restaurant at Ma’xanab.

The hotel is small and there were never a lot of guests around which was exactly what we wanted. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful with anything you need which was appreciated as it was our first time in the area and needed assistance navigating the area, booking day trips, etc. A few “cons” for us: The menu is fairly small and got sick of breakfast options by the end of the week. The hotel “gym” is very limited.

I don’t know where to start. Everything, literally everything, about this hotel is a 10/10. From staff, to grounds, to the room, beach, pool, and everything in between was nothing short of amazing. Try everything on the menu, it’s delicious. Don’t know what to drink, have the bartenders serve you a surprise. This is the only hotel I will be returning back to in Tulum.
