Great spot to stay if you mostly only need a place to sleep. The shared kitchens and bathrooms are clean and updated but nothing fancy. Great to have a fridge and microwave available. Rooms are SMALL great NY experience.

Honestly pretty good, the property was kept well cleaned and warm as I visited through winter. The room was nice, furniture was a little old and creaky but nothing bad and nothing was broken. My mattress was a little sunken but wasn’t noticeable unless I sat in the specific spot. The bathroom ammenities were useable, only had an issue with another guest who left stuff in the toilet sometimes. Only complaint was a dripping sound made usually during the night, drove me a little crazy but i survived. Overall a good stay, check in and check out were super easy! Is in a super convenient location, close to Madison Square Garden and Penn Station for transport. Had no issues with anything directly outside the property even in the middle of the night. Property security is good too, with electronic codes for front and personal doors. Pretty happy with my stay, and was good for solo travelling without having to pay too much!

Very clean and well maintained building and room. The shared kitchen was a bonus. Shared bathrooms (two on my floor) were always available and very clean. Bed was very comfortable. Great location, although a bit noisy at night with sirens and honking. This might not be an issue when window is closed (?). The only downfall was the fact that although it was nice to have A/C for the first three nights when it was warm (which also gave white noise), it got pretty chilly on the last night and window wouldn't close, in addition to the big gap where A/C was mounted. The blanket, a very small fleece blanket which was too short, didn't suffice and it was too cold in the room. Unfortunately I didn't arrive in my room until late at night to realize the fact, at which point it was too late to call management.

I was really nervous about what the state of the bathrooms would be like but I was pleasantly surprised that the amenities were actually pretty clean. On the last day of my stay the bathroom was covered in water and really dirty however so I think it’s the luck of the draw with whoever else is staying in the hostel. The hostel is pretty safe. You need a 4 digit code to get into the building then a four digit code for your room as well. The area is relatively safe, it is still NY though. It’s about a 7-10 minute walk to get to a strip of cafes and restaurants which is nice. Overall this was a really good stay. Reasonably priced and relatively safe.

The room was very nicely decorated and a lot larger than we anticipated! For a hostel, we were impressed by the security codes specific to each guest for both the front door and your private room door. I will say there was a random sock when we entered our room, which made me question whether the room had been cleaned, but sheets and towels seemed clean to us! The kitchens were very nice and equipped with everything you may need. Our only qualm was that the restroom on our floor (5th) seemed to have a malfunctioning toilet. Remnants were often visible it the toilet bowl so we had to go to the fourth floor to use the restroom. Overall, for the price in NYC, a very comfortable and convenient location. There was a mix of perfumey/smoke smells, as to be expected when sharing common areas. As someone who has stayed in many hostels, I do think majority of the negative reviews were people expecting hotel like conditions. For a hostel, I would say this place is nice.

Stairs are to be expected in NYC! If you can handle that, this is an AMAZING and safe option for solo travelers. Will be booking again for sure! Voicemail with entry codes made check-in super convenient!

There is a shared bathroom on every floor. Sadly, my floor mates were not the cleanest guests

This place is fine if you have a short trip. It's a central location the staff seemed nice. The room and shared bathroom were adequate. It's not pristine clean but not bad like you will see some dust and dirt at the corners of the room and it looked like a small stain on my sheets but no big deal to me.

The guys who checked you in were awesome. The facility was super clean. Would definitely stay there again.

Towels were never delivered. The room was extremely cold, walls were filthy as was the area rug amd padded chair with multiple stains. Would not take much to make it clean.

Extremely dirty. Appeartly they don't laundary their sheets enough. Floor is sticky too. Basically a scam

Rooms were not as advertised at entire building ranked of marijuana even though we were told there was no smoking. Bed sheets were stained and pillows were dirty. Looking. Room was about the size of a closet. Tried communicating for several days leading up to our check-in with the staff with no return calls or messages. I highly recommend you choose a different property and don't waste your money here.

First stay in a hostel and everything was better than expected. The room and facilities were all clean and comfortable. The 5 stars do come with one note. If your room is on the first floor expect to hear everything the overnight desk attendant does. Everything from talking on the phone, doing what sounded like sorting screws or games on their unmuted phone, it will be heard.

Small room, which was incredibly hot all night and had no option to change the temperature. Very noisy all night from the street below and the hostel itself. Would recommend for 1/2 night stays as it’s in a good location but definitely not for longer as it didn’t feel worth the money for lack of comfort/space.

This was a total disappointment. Expensive room with very bad quality, noisy and very small. I had to go to another hotel. I do not recommend this to anyone.

I stayed here for four nights on a solo trip. I have stayed in hostels before, so I knew what to expect in the way of smaller, shared accommodations. Arrived late in the evening and the desk attendant was friendly and knowledgeable. I was helped upstairs with my bag(s) and shown around on the floor where I would be staying. My room was clean and had its own window unit AC that kept the room cool. Room was about the size you would expect for a hostel but did have a full-length mirror and an armoire in which to hang clothes, which was helpful. Each floor has two restrooms, both good sized with full showers; very clean and well maintained. I never had to wait to use the restroom and was never interrupted by other guests rushing me when I was showering, etc., but obviously that may not be the case during peak travel times of the year. I chose this hostel due to close proximity to Madison Square Garden, just a short walk away. Plenty of nearby restaurants and bars, walkable to Penn Station and subway. Check out was just as easy as check in, with same attendant. Everything here met or exceeded my expectations. Please make sure you research what exactly hostel accommodations are like because they truly are meant for solo travelers who don’t plan to spend much time in rooms other than sleeping and showering, and the room sizes reflect this. My only complaint was lag in WiFi when on Zoom meetings for work, but connection was fine for phone calls and general internet use.

Staff was available but felt off in that they didn’t verify my ID. Common areas (kitchen and bathroom) were nicely updated. The bedroom itself was clean but walls looked like they can used a paint or cleaning. For some reason the heat was on despite the high for the day being 70

I do like this place. Nothing fancy but it works! And the internet is very very fast...

Only complaint was the room did not have any heat.....other than that it was great

No 24/7 staff, dirty, unsafe, no locks on doors, scam. Charge $50 for a linen fee. I can assure you, the linens aren’t $50

I booked for 3 nights double occupancy but was given just one bath towel, when I asked for a set for the 3 nights I was told to pay extra. Very very ridiculous.

Have more people on site and TRAIN THEM If there is an issue with a customer on site. Half the time I was told the supervisor is on vacay in Alaska (which is fine) and only they know how to operate the system. Anything can happen you guys come on

First i'm a former NY resident so my comfort level in the city may differ from yours. That said, this is a repurposed apartment building into individual hostel-like units great for single travelers, relatively quiet and walkable to the metro and theater area. The Bad: The check-in, for crying out loud. I waited an hour with two other fellow travellers for someone to appear to check us in. From reviews, this seems to be common. The maddening thing is given the codes used to enter the hostel and your room, this is an easy fix. To the Lamartine: Fix it stat. All you have to do is send the code to the room to the guest and tell them the front door code is their phone number. Instead each night I found stranded travelers scratching their head on how to check in.

It is in a great location, near many attractions and tourist sites. My room was a little small, but since I was out all day, I only needed it for sleeping.

Place is good. For the price and location, i would come back again. Area is a bit darker at night and some homeless. I guess NY is like that nowadays. Stay is pleasant.

I was in NY for 2 nights on my own and the Lamartine Chelsea was perfect. I was there for a concert at MSG and it was only an 8 minute walk. Times Square was also in walking distance. I felt safe and my room and all the facilities were clean.

Lamartine Chelsea is in a great location, close to Times Square, Broadway, The High Line, and so on. It's a great price for the city. Nothing fancy but it's clean and comfortable. We don't spend much time in our room when we go to New York so it was just a place to sleep and clean up. Fantastic spot if that is what you are looking for. Check in was smooth and they let us leave our bags there after check out until we were ready to head home.
