It is hard to leave this review but I felt surprised when we arrived at the place, since all the 5 star reviews we saw here contributed to us selecting this place. First I want to say the staff were very helpful and friendly. They did try to provide a good service to the guests. The location is beautiful and you do feel like you are part of the nature environment. Even the long bumpy road was part of the expectation and not their fault. However, that's where the good things about this place ended. The bubble glamp, while clean in terms of bedding, toilet, furniture, is in a dire shape and requires thorough cleaning for guests to truely enjoy the experience. It was VERY moldy inside, with grit built up in the corners, and the supposedly transparent part is so DIRTY such that we could barely see what's outside, let alone enjoying the experience that a bubble glamping is suppose to provide. The furniture is showing wear and tear with cracks so much so that it can't claim that is a luxury experience. Also they had to place tarps on all of the bubble lamps(probably to reduce heat from sunlight), which is different from what the photos showed. The food is also mediocre at best. While I understand that it's hard to transport ingredients to a remote port of the jungle, the food were firstly not authentic Mayan food, second in small portion, thirdly very overpriced. The staff also couldn't even give a menu for us, probably due to not being able to cook actual meals, and all of t

Alma Maya is one of most unique places I have ever stayed at. There is an aura of tranquility and a special atmosphere that permeates the property. My husband and I just returned from our 5 day stay, and it was amazing. The private cenote is beautiful, the domes are wonderful to stay in, with complete privacy and cloud-like beds. The food is fresh and so unique - regional recipes and ingredients are used with a real flair. Off-site trips and on-site massages were arranged for us. But it is the staff at Alma Maya that makes it so special. From the time we arrived, everyone we met went above and beyond to create a special experience for us. Jorge, Cristian, America, Paulina and the rest of the staff went out of their way to make this a memorable trip for us. We hope to return again! If you go, just be prepared for a slow bumpy 25 mins or so of dirt road into/out of the property, and factor that into all your plans. We rented a stick shift tiny car from Localiza in Cancun and it was perfect. Try to arrive during the day, and spend at least 2-3 days there. The massages arranged for us were very good, and they also offer some unique ceremonies related to the Mayan traditions of the area that we’d love to try next time. Our day trip to Puerto Morelos and a guided tour to Tulum and Coba (arranged by our concierge Paulina) were great, but returning back to Alma Maya made us appreciate it even more. Bring a book, lie in a hammock, and enjoy. It is a special place in the Yucatan!
