Waiheke Island is the largest island in the Hauraki Gulf and is known for its many beautiful beaches, such as Cactus Bay and Onetangi Beach. There are plenty of bush walks and hiking trails for those that like the outdoors, including the Whakanewha Regional Park close by. It is also known as the country's island of wine, with a number of award-winning wineries. There is a vineyard trail leading to some of the worlds' top wineries that starts only 200 metres from the hostel!
