The Grafton

This is not an easy review to write as in a couple of areas the hotel varied from 5* to 1* - hence the overall 3* rating.On the plus side, the rooms are excellent, clean, quiet and an ambience of luxury - definitely 5* rooms. However, we were surprised about car parking. Several of the websites like Expedia say that the hotel has 'parking included'. In practice, we were given a parking disc to allow us to have local on-road parking - which in this busy residential neighbourhood meant that we had to park in another road not near The Grafton. Even worse, the parking disc only allowed 3 hours of daily parking between 9am-6pm on Monday to Friday. This is not what I would consider to be 'parking included'. The huge stumbling block for us was breakfast. The Grafton's website has a section on Food & Drink, which proudly announces that they were awarded the AA Food & Breakfast Award in 2018. In addition, there are enticing pictures of the breakfast room and a list of tasty foods cooked to order. However...when we enquired about breakfast times, we were informed that they had stopped doing breakfast during Covid - we were, instead, presented with a list of local cafes where we could go and get breakfast if we wanted. We were naturally extremely disappointed with the lack of breakfast, despite the wording on the Grafton's website. So in summary, the rooms were excellent, parking is dreadful and the in-house breakfast is non-existent. We will not stay there again.

The Grafton is very clean and in a very quiet location, but it’s very basic for what you pay. It’s basically just a bedroom, no food a bar that isn’t manned and only open 6-10 and was shut on the Saturday night. The bedroom was lovely and our bed was very comfy but unfortunately the review ends there! I don’t think it’s worth the money and unfortunately I wouldn’t recommend it to friends and family.

The room was very comfortable and stylish. The location good. However we didnt see anyone apart from a cleaner who let us in on the first day. The desk was never managed. We would have liked a drink at the bar but noone could be found. It all felt quite impersonal and not homely.

Very friendly welcome at reception. Room is a reasonable size, comfortable bed. Exceptionally clean. We hadn't realized that there are no eating facilities and breakfast had to be found elsewhere; there is an agreement with a nearby hotel to provide breakfast for an extra charge. Parking permits are provided, but space can be limited in the evening. Easy walk to the city centre.

Our room was beautifully decorated and very clean. Bed was really comfortable tho pillows were a bit soft for me, but that's a personal preference and I didn't ask for a change. We managed to park outside hotel on the street, so no issues there. Only a five minute walk into town centre. Great location, geat hotel. Thank you 😊

Really pleasant property with charm. Booked last minute, the owner greeted us, all prepared for our arrival. The room was beautifully presented, fresh and clean. Everything worked as it should, nothing negative to say about it at all. Within 5-10 mins walk of central Harrogate, through lovely tree lines residential streets. There is on-street parking, we arrived on Sat afternoon and parked right outside. At times when there are parking restrictions the hotel will provide permits to guests. A real find and no doubt we'll stay again.

Simple check in. Room was exceptionally Clean and very spacious. Good selection of hot drinks and bottled water in room. Very large TV with good selection of channels. Parking is on street and free at weekend, quite narrow street and cars each side but found a place OK near the hotel. 10 min walk to town centre. No food at hotel but was recommended breakfast at the Ascot which they booked for us and is100m away, and excellent quality for £15 each.

Property offered off street parking, no off street parking only on street and that is limited to 3 hours. No dining available including breakfast, you have to go to another establishment to get your breakfast and pay extra, even though breakfast is listed as a perk ?. On the website it calls its self a 5 star luxury guest house with a garden, a few shrubs at the front does not make a garden. Only saw a member of staff or owner at check-in never saw anyone again. Room was clean and bedding was clean. Due to the parking issue of having to move the car every 3 hours to a new location and lack of breakfast I will not be staying at The Grafton again.

Excellent two nights in one of the large rooms. Bed was really comfortable and room was spotless.

Hotel was spotless. Staff really helpful and friendly. Only improvement would be blackout curtains and maybe aircon’ but these are only minor improvements. I will be recommending this hotel to my friends and family.

There was no breakfast. No bar service as such. Mattress too soft. Pillows were down and too soft. Awful smell of drains in en-suite. Tiniest shower cubicle ever. Nicely decorated property. No one there at check-out. more like an air bnb that a hotel.

Very quiet hotel, in fact so quiet hardly saw anybody else. However the rooms above had creaky floors. Getting round the bed was tight. The room was well apponted and the bed comfortable. I think the bathroom could have been smaller and given more bedroom space. The location was good and a short walk into town for breakfasts and meals.

Room was very modern and clean - radiator heat and no AC made it a little challenging to control temp in springtime but with patience and open windows it was possible. Great bathroom & lovely tea/cookie setup.

There were lots of nice little touches - like coffee bags not instant, decaf options, bottled water every day and not just arrival day, quality toilet paper, soft towels…. Plus it was a very confortable room.

Asked about early check in, some could enjoy the full day, or at least drop our bags off, no reply. No one available when we arrived, just a note with phone numbers to ring. One number they’d provided didn’t even work and there was no answer on the other number. I left a message about dropping the bags off but never got a call back. When we did call back later in the evening we felt like we’d done something wrong by ringing the bell for attention. Again, no one there at check out so just had to leave the key on the reception.

Really enjoyed our stay at The Grafton. The property was very modern looking, clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, the room was lovely and clean, with bottles of water, tea/coffee making facilities. The bathroom had plenty of towels and a nice selection of toiletries. The location was only a short walk from the centre of town and parking was also really easy, the staff provided us with a disc to put in my car where I parked just outside the hotel. I would definitely recommend anyone looking for a nice, quiet stay in Harrogate to stay at The Grafton.

The Marie Celeste! We were checked-in by one of the cleaners and after that we saw no one, not even when we left - just a hand written note saying thanks for your stay. We were out and in several times over the two days and still saw no one. Very nicely appointed but would be better if it offered breakfast and a bit of human interaction!

Room was wonderful, window with fresh air was so appreciated as we were both recovering from being sick while traveling. Monica welcomed us with an efficient and informative check-in and shared parking details and recommended we visit the Turkish Baths, so we did! Great location about a 10 minute walk from most things. All in all, a lovely visit, and wishing Monica and co-owner all good things. If we pass through Harrogate again, there is only one place we will stay!

This is a straightforward hotel in a nice quiet street a short walk from the centre of town. We could park close to the building both days we were there. On the day we arrived the manager took care of us nicely, as we were rather early.

The Grafton is a pleasant and well appointed Guest House, convenient for the centre of Harrogate. We found it inconvenient because there was no "in house" breakfast, and our room, though spotlessly clean, was up four sets of stairs in a garret with not even room for one armchair. My wife and I are semi-disabled and struggled with the place. To be fair, I booked in a hurry through Expedia because of a family crisis, and had I booked direct I would probably have checked these things before going for it, but I didn\'t notice either on Expedia or on the Grafton\'s own website specific information about disabled access. If I missed it, I apologise to the management but we have been under some stress. We saw no-one apart from a lady checking us in, and a cleaner who spoke no English. No sign of the owners at all over two days. But for many people this would be a decent place to stay, and is certainly good value for money.

Lovely guest house! Had a very warm welcome from Mark the owner! He was most helpful and accommodating, helping with luggage and booking a taxi! The room was very cosy and warm and had a lot of lovely extras - which was a nice touch! Parking was good outside! Lounge also cosy! Would recommend a stay here!

Beautiful room in a great location in Harrogate. It was easy to check in and park for the weekend. The room was impeccably clean and we were given a warm welcome on arrival.

Room was comfortable, quiet and nicely appointed. Good location close to transport links and town centre.

Pleasant host, nice clean quiet room in quiet neighbourhood. Stayed only one night so didn’t utilise the facilities. Parking ticket was supplied for the street outside - no hassle at all. A few minutes from town centre - easy walk.

A very friendly and comfortable hotel, situated a short walk from the town centre. Although there is no parking on site, we used the parking disc allocated by the hotel staff and were able to park directly outside the hotel for the duration of our stay (one night). The hotel doesn't serve breakfast but we made use of the Ascot Hotel (only 2 mins walk away) and had possible the best English cooked breakfast we've ever had (£15pp) We'd use the hotel again.

Nice property and good location for Harrogate shopping etc. However, for the price, with no breakfast included, we found there were better options in the same area.

I really enjoyed my stay here. Although there is no breakfast there is a nice lounge to eat your own food in and there are a number of eateries & shops nearby. The owners are lovely and helpful, the place is nice and it is a good location in the centre of Harrogate.
