Excellent hotel right in the middle of everything. For the price, two single beds we both thought it was great. Only minus is probably lack of airflow, cant really open the windows and in the humidity of summer + rain it was hard to cool down.

As it is an old hotel and I was on the first floor you can hear every door banging late into the night, people talking, WCs flushing so I hardly slept with the noises most of the night

So the Gardens is a great hotel, recently had some renovations and is generally moving in the right directions. The problem is the little things. The front door to the hotel seems secure but is never locked. The front desk seems so antiquated and old it doesn;t fill you with any confidence. It has a bar area that I have never seen anyone in! I was in an internal room - massively overlooked my neighbouring rooms. Hello to the chap who stood solidly staring at me for a minute!! The windows are filthy and the internal quadrant you look down on is just grim. It's not too hard to do some of that tidying up. However, this was one of the hottest days and the internal rooms were shielded from the heat so it was only a cool 30C. I felt sorry for those in the exec rooms that overlooked Piccadilly Gardens because if you leave your window open you get all the noise all night as well as the smell of weed. Lord knows how hot they were in there!!! It just needs some TLC. The shower in 204 was so difficult to turn. I'd stay again because little improvements are happening, the new carpet, they've fixed the stairs, but it is probably going to need some big investment soon. Now stayed in pretty much every room in 2 floors !!!

Stayed 2 nights

Stayed for two nights. Let’s start with the bits that were less than ideal:- • reception and bar area are a little run down and can see that some investment is needed. It’s clean just worn • we stayed with breakfast, but in hindsight wished we hadn’t. Choice wasn’t great, and some of quality wasn’t great. We had full English the first day and decided to go for just a bacon roll the next. But definitely would have been better getting breakfast elsewhere • room didn’t have air conditioning and we stayed on one of the hottest weekends of the year Good points:- • good location for central Manchester and trams • our room looked as though it had been refurbished so there is definitely a plan of improvements in place • fans were provided so they tried to keep the room cool • room was clean, bed was comfortable, staff were great
