The hotel was nice, however, for the price we paid, it had a stringent pool towel policy, the balcony sliding glass door had a 3 inch gap that let bugs in, all around the property was under construction. Pool was not warm, spa was not hot.

Everything was great about this hotel, including what really seems to be the best view in the area. I did find the restaurant to be very overpriced for the quality of the food but I think you’re paying for the view. The pool was subpar for sure. The hot tub was the same same temperature as the pool. Overall the stay was really nice and the people were fantastic but I would definitely suggest them improving the pool for those days you might want to hang for a bit at the hotel.

Stay a week and you won’t be disappointed. We only stayed for 2 nights and wish it was more. Free breakfast, friendly staff, clean rooms, tons of pools and spectacular views. Macaws, monkeys and toucans were seen on site. Breakfast and dinner were delicious. Free shuttle to and from beach. Everything was very clean.

This hotel definitely has the best views in Manuel Antonio. The sunset and the view of the ocean were absolutely gorgeous. I highly recommend eating dinner at the hotel restaurant during sunset. We were on the top floor with ocean view and it was stunning. The only issue was that the elevator would go up to our floor but it wouldn’t go down. We didn’t mind walking down the stairs but it was tough when we were going to check out and had to carry our luggage.

This hotel is beautiful with a stunning view, beautiful pool area, spacious rooms and excellent service. The restaurant was superb. A few notes: it is hard to walk to the beach. The hill is extremely steep and narrow with lots of cars. The shuttle runs a few times a day. There is no spa as listed on Expedia. The beach is crowded and there are lots of hawkers unless you walk to a quieter place some distance away. However, overall it was a wonderful stay and I would go back!

We have stayed in the area several times before, further down the road by Playa Biesanz, and remembered passing La Mariposa on our way to town, so this trip decided to give it a try. It’s conveniently located near shops and restaurants but is still quiet enough to have plenty of wildlife on the property. We saw not one but TWO sloths on the property, and both Capuchin and Squirrel Monkeys, not to mention the adorable Agouti that played near our patio. Then there are the birds…. So many! The room was a little weird with the bathroom sink quite a distance away in the living room, but this gave room for a bidet in the bathroom and for that I say THANK YOU! Also we almost died slipping on the bathroom floor but they provided a second towel and that issue was resolved. The bed, and the red lights by the bed were really nice. We had a lot of privacy off our patio so we slept with the curtains open and enjoyed the 5AM wake up calls of the Macaws and spent a lot of time enjoying the view. Our room was down a flight of stairs, and we had a few tent making bats surprise us at night. This is not a complaint….we loved it! The pools are all amazing with incredible sunset views and comfy chairs. We enjoyed the drinks the staff made for us and watched a sunset from the swim up bar one night. We had dinner twice at the hotel. Both times the food and the service were premium. The octopus appetizer is excellent! During dinner we had a 2-Toed Sloth make its way by even.

This was the most expensive hotel we stayed at during our trip, and was the least impressive. Other than the view, not sure why a basic room, that’s dirty with dead bugs would cost $550/night. Breakfast was marginal at best.

Tidy hotel with an excellent pool area and spectacular view. Breakfasts were also good. Negative Issues included too many bugs got into the room at night. Noisy room air conditioning. Not close to the beach and with a very high climb back to the hotel. Roads outside the hotel were terrible with potholes everywhere.

Rooms are very large and very clean. Beds are very firm. Nice balcony! The food at the restaurant was excellent. The staff were very nice and accommodating. Unfortunately the young man who took us to our room, was probably new and overloaded the elevator and broke it. The other staff rescued us quickly. There are iron spiral staircases, which we used the remainder of stay, being very careful because it was raining. Beautiful property with beautiful views. Close to Manuel Antonio national Park.

They did not give the room shown in the picture it was much smaller and only one window with a dark hall to walk into the room. 1st night was sleepless due to the amount of spiders and mosquitoes nested in the ceils above the beds. Which was not evident when we check into the room after waiting 3 hours for it to be cleaned. The sliding door did not close properly and when we returned to our room after 10 pm there was NO staff available to help us until the next morning. Next afternoon we asked maid to clean the ceiling and the bedding after cleaning the ceilings which she did.

Hôtel Mariposa was amazing. The staff was so friendly and attentive, the pools were stunning, the rooms were clean and open. The mixed fresh blended juice in the morning and delicious breakfasts were a bonus. I love bartender Kendall and Oscar at the front desk and server Mike. It was a fabulous stay and I can’t wait to get back.

This hotel was very clean and in a great location! It was very secure and safe! The views were absolutely amazing !! We enjoyed our very abundant and delicious free breakfast every morning looking over the ocean! The monkeys also came out every morning swinging in the trees right above us! Loved it would def stay again!

The location and views make it worth it! I was disappointed that the room was so sparsely appointed. There was no where to sit other than on the bed even though the room was huge. I was also shocked that the bathroom was stocked with the bare minimum. One hand towel and two bath towels. We made a VIP reservation for the sunset dinner which required buying a bottle of wine. We were happy to do so but patrons than were not required to make the same investment continuously walked behind our table to take pictures while our food was being served. It would have been nice for the staff to discourage this rude behavior. Again, the views make up for a lot but a few elevated touches would improve the guest experience.

The view from this property is amazing! The service was phenomenal. The property was clean and comfortable. The only downsides were the internet was spotty and tv was not fantastic. I would book this property again. We are planning to go back soon.

Clean room, great staff, close to Manuel Antonio and the beach. I actually was able to walk to the beach. The view from my room’s balcony was fantastic and the view from the dining area was spectacular! My room and bathroom felt a little outdated and I didn’t have hot water, only cold. Amazing hotel, we stayed 3 days with friends. Beautiful views from the top of the mountain overlooking the Pacific. Restaurant had good food and service was great throughout the property. My only complaint would be that there are only small TVs in the rooms and they don't aren't smart TVs with Netflix etc., so unless you want to watch Spanish cable TV, you are out of luck.

Beautiful property great amenities staff were very friendly and helpful. Great location in the Manuel Antonio national park! Even saw a sloth on the property! View from the room and pool was amazing definitely recommend an ocean view room! Only downside was the beds were not very comfortable.

Negatives: The furniture in our room was very uncomfortable...bed was extremely from and had a wide wooden frame around the mattress which made it difficult to get in and out, futon/couch was overly soft and hard to get out of, chairs both in the room and on the balcony were inexpensive plastic chairs and not what we expected for the cost. Towels were clean but well worn. One hand towel and no washcloths provided in room. We absolutely loved our time at La Mariposa. It was clean, conveniently located to great dining, quiet -- but by far our favorite was the view and the staff! The view is the most spectacular dining view we've ever seen. It's a wrap-around view of the mountains in the distance, the national park / rainforest to one side and the expanse of the pacific ocean. It's beautiful at both sunrise and sunset! Several restaurants in the area having stunning views of the ocean but absolutely none compare to La Mariposa and its onsite restaurant Le Papillon. It's truly jaw dropping. The pool and sunset bar share the view as well. The staff were incredibly gracious, kind and accommodating. Alan at the front desk is an absolute gem of a person -- we adored him and he took excellent care of us. My wife and daughters also loved the resident cat Marina who the hotel has kindly adopted. We were greeted by monkeys every morning when we walked out our door -- they always visit early in the morning and my daughters had the best time poking their heads out each morning and seeing the monkeys racing around -- some with babies on their backs. A sloth took up residence in a beautiful almond tree that the kids would go visit each morning at breakfast. We would stay here again in an instant.

I really enjoyed the property. Be careful when you order anything at the hotel charged to your room. I left the required $200 room deposit. As i ordered drinks, which was usually just one Coke Zero, at the bar or restaurant a ALWAYS gave a large tip in cash, 5000 or 10000 colones on one COKE. I like to get good service and recognize the service staff. The actual Coke was charged to my room which i was told to put down my name and Room number. At the end of my stay I had 8 or so $6 tips added to my bill. The Front desk said i wrote my Room Number in the spot where the TIP goes and there was nothing they can do. I explained that i always tip in cash as a courtesy to the Staff to get their tips in cash. The front desk would not do anything. The amount of money is not the issue, it is the principle, what if i was in room 25 or room 50???? It would have taken the hotel to go to any of the wait staff and ask if I tipped in Cash. They would know. I tip very well, excessive and they would know me. Additionally, they wait staff excepted my cash tip and saw I wrote down my room number NOT a tip, but said nothing to me. I told the Front Desk, if i come back, i will not tip anyone anything.

Everything was amazing. I’m so glad we stayed here. Every single staff person was so kind, helpful, caring and awesome!!! The pool was so beautiful! We loved our stay!!! We loved the view! The room was beautiful. The breakfast was nice. The ground were lovely. No complaints! Oskar, Luis, and Paola were fantastic and truly the whole staff was amazing.

The hotel lobby and rooms have an amazing view . However the service at this hotel is like 1 star hotel. The staff is not considerate. It's like they are doing favor to guests by working there. Nuestra llegada al hotel fue antes del check in y queríamos aprovechar el tiempo al máximo, cuando nos acercamos a la recepción para solicitar informes de los tours que podíamos hacer a esa hora, el personal era muy tajante en que necesitaba que estuviéramos todos los huéspedes para dar cualquier tipo de información. Ya que revisaron que efectivamente teníamos reservación con ellos, le insistimos en que solo necesitábamos informes de los tours para aprovechar el día y para cualquier pregunta que le hiciéramos quería que estuviéramos todos que por que el “no iba a repetir las instrucciones más de una vez” (literalmente nos dijo así) de una manera muy grosera. Después nos atendió Luis y fue muy amable y servicial, salvando nuestra estancia en ese hotel que ya estábamos arrepentidos por el mal trato que habíamos recibido. Y por la noche nos atendió Alan quien se portó maravillosamente!!!!! La vista del restaurante es increíble!!!!! Lo único malo es que en la carta no había muchas opciones para personas vegetarianas (en nuestro viaje de 7 personas, 2 de ellas son vegetarianas), así que tuvimos que comer en un restaurante fuera del hotel.

Tidy hotel with an excellent pool area and spectacular view. Breakfasts were also good. Negative Issues included too many bugs got into the room at night. Noisy room air conditioning. Not close to the beach and with a very high climb back to the hotel. Roads outside the hotel were terrible with potholes everywhere.

We have stayed in the area several times before, further down the road by Playa Biesanz, and remembered passing La Mariposa on our way to town, so this trip decided to give it a try. It’s conveniently located near shops and restaurants but is still quiet enough to have plenty of wildlife on the property. We saw not one but TWO sloths on the property, and both Capuchin and Squirrel Monkeys, not to mention the adorable Agouti that played near our patio. Then there are the birds…. So many! The room was a little weird with the bathroom sink quite a distance away in the living room, but this gave room for a bidet in the bathroom and for that I say THANK YOU! Also we almost died slipping on the bathroom floor but they provided a second towel and that issue was resolved. The bed, and the red lights by the bed were really nice. We had a lot of privacy off our patio so we slept with the curtains open and enjoyed the 5AM wake up calls of the Macaws and spent a lot of time enjoying the view. Our room was down a flight of stairs, and we had a few tent making bats surprise us at night. This is not a complaint….we loved it! The pools are all amazing with incredible sunset views and comfy chairs. We enjoyed the drinks the staff made for us and watched a sunset from the swim up bar one night. We had dinner twice at the hotel. Both times the food and the service were premium. The octopus appetizer is excellent! During dinner we had a 2-Toed Sloth make its way by even.

The views from this hotel are unmatched! A gorgeous property, and the staff is incredible. Everyone remembered your name almost immediately. The follow up from the staff on booking tours was amazing! We were very very happy with our stay and cannot wait to go back! I will warn, there are a lot of stairs on the property depending on where your room is and the property itself is up on a hill. This was fine for us because the views are worth it. We saw macaws, iguanas, and white faced monkeys all on the property. Not to mention, the most beautiful sunsets. The hotel is a short walk from a number of restaurants and they have a shuttle to and from the beach. We had a rental car and driving/parking was very easy.

It also offered a shuttle to the national park and beaches. The property sits at a high point in the area, and offers amazing views of the park and coastline. As its name suggests, there are abundant butterflies, and also flocks of macaws and other bird life. They breakfast buffet was good fuel to start active days. The property itself is a bit past its prime, and could use a refresh. There were other oddities that we typically don’t experience at properties at this price, such as having to swap a “towel coupon” for a towel at the pool, and having to pay for a welcome drink with alcohol (otherwise it’s a fruit juice).

Always an excellent choice. Location is great. Staff is top notch. Views fro. Our room were breathtaking and sunset from the patio was perfect. We had the Ahi Tuna and lobster pasta for dinner and they were good, not great. Firvthe price we expected more. Breakfasts were excellent. Great selection. And the bartender was a treat. Mixed a super drink and extremely personal.

The view from La Mariposa is spectacular. When you stay here you can expect friendly and helpful staff, fabulous food (breakfast is included with your stay), and the occasional wildlife sighting. We were greeted each morning by curious monkeys and colorful birds, which added another dynamic to our stay that made it unforgettable.

The views are breathtaking. Beds were super comfortable. Housekeeping did a great job every day and the breakfast was incredible- buffet style with lots of options. We ate dinner once at the restaurant on site and it was very expensive and the food wasn't that good, but again, the view is so amazing it was worth it. The walk to the beach could be brutal if you aren't used to walking up hill for 20 minutes straight, but you can also take your own car down the beach access road if it has decent clearance as the shuttle options are pretty limited. The beach is stunning.

Beautiful place. People were wonderful. Pricing for food and drinks expensive, but seems to be the case in CR. Wish they better lighting in bath and makeup mirror. Glad I brought one.

Positives: the views, the views, the views! Breakfast selections and service were excellent. Loved that breakfast was included. Lunch and drink selections were great. Enjoyed the pools and location. Negatives: The furniture in our room was very uncomfortable...bed was extremely from and had a wide wooden frame around the mattress which made it difficult to get in and out, futon/couch was overly soft and hard to get out of, chairs both in the room and on the balcony were inexpensive plastic chairs and not what we expected for the cost. Towels were clean but well worn. One hand towel and no washcloths provided in room. Our garden view included a view of the roof and backyard of another residence...which was fine but the pictures were deceiving making it seem much more private.

The Mariposa Hotel is one of my favorite hotels. Its proximity to the Central Valley and its beautiful ocean views make for a very pleasant stay. The staff is very friendly and the breakfast is good. Prices at the restaurant are similar to those at restaurants in Manuel Antonio. I will definitely return.

This hotel is amazing! Courteous and helpful staff greet you, including a resident cat. Breakfast is good with an outstanding view. Make sure to watch the sunset or the monkeys by the bar. Pool is a perfect place to cool off and relax. Restaurant serves fresh seafood and other offerings. The location is off the main road a bit so it is quiet yet accessible.

Loved the spectacular view, the delicious breakfast and pleasant staff! Loved the morning swim, and beautiful sunsets. Loved the restaurant, just felt it was too expensive. Also wish the balcony had more comfortable chairs for enjoying the view.
