Once a good hotel trying to do its best, with cleanliness being the biggest weakness. The chargeable car park is shared with 3 hotels and prepaid parking is based on first come first served.

Friendly staff. Very clean. Enjoyed a swim but pool is small so don’t be disappointed if you are a pro swimmer fine for me dawdling up and down with it to myself. Lovely sauna. Breakfast is a bit expensive so didn’t bother with that. Bed was comfy and warm.

Reception, bar and restaurant areas were pleasant and well presented. All staff were friendly and efficient. The room was warm and there was no air conditioning ( we were aware of this when we booked). A fan was present in the room which we used. When we looked closer at the room condition it was clear that although clean, areas such as the shower could do with some repair. This wouldn’t put us off returning as it was mostly cosmetic. We had paid for breakfast when booking and found the buffet to have a good variety of options which were all of decent quality. The location of the hotel means that we would stay here again as the good points outweighed any bad.

The hygiene of the breakfast restaurant is a problem. There were several ants crawling on the food display table, and it was very unpleasant that the staff didn't even try to catch them after I informed them. During my two-day stay, I was supposed to receive two bottles of water per day, but instead, I was only given two bottles at once. When I asked for a refill of the water the next day, they refused. Additionally, the facilities seemed outdated, and I felt that it did not meet the standards of a four-star hotel, but rather fell short of even a two-star rating. - [ ]

The hotel has potential but clearly is not at a 4 star level. The room did not have A/C which proved to be an issue as the room got very hot for some reason. More importantly, the shower did not work properly neither in terms of fixtures (which appeared to be loose) nor in terms of the temperature (I could not get the water beyond lukewarm level despite trying everything)- here I am not sure if it wasn’t “too late” as my shower was around 11pm..Anyways, sink water seemed OK when I used it temperature wise. On the positive side, there is a small gym and also a poll (small too- also not usable at the time of this review) and a sauna. Again, some care and love would be appreciated in terms of these facilities. Size is also insufficient for how large is the hotel. Staff was nice and trying to accommodate as best they could. Big issue is also the noise from the nearby highways where Batmans and Robins are up till mightnight and early risers too. Overall I would say, a 6/7 out of them. With some improvements, it could be a good one, as location is good and there is potential.

Stay OK, I usually stay here, more out of habit now (better the devil you know)... but a few tips. 1. room position is important. No aircond, so May to Septmeber can be hot. Make sure you're on the East carpark side, other side is much hotter. Also, make sure you're away from the lifts (noisy talking lifts, noisy people... the further you are south the less people walk by shouting, and bratty children). 2. Carpark now running at 90% capacity minimum... Often no parking after you have paid your 10 quid a day - annoying... be aware you can park on the west side behind the hotel... bounce up the kerb in the loop, onto the knobbly concrete/grass area, park right round the back... you have PAID, they must supply parking. 3. Restaurant probably privately owned so expensive, but very nice bar meals. Breakfast has 6 staff wandering around, little wonder it is so expensive.

Easy walkable location from Southampton Central (5min). There’s a McDonalds across the parking lot that we had dinner and breakfast at. It was easy to book a cab for the cruise ship terminal on the self-service tablet in the lobby and the cab arrived within a few minutes. The location is outside the old part of the town so it’s not very scenic but was good for what we needed. There were three of us in the room and the pull out bed was bit squeaky with some springs sticking out. There is no AC and just a table fan so it was quite warm at night. Overall we would stay here again. The room isn’t fancy but serviceable and clean and we had no serious issues beyond being a bit warm at night.

Just be aware there is no air conditioning in these rooms. Also for safety reasons (I'm guessing) the window only opens an inch or two so not much help at night. There was a fan in the room so that helped somewhat.

Excellent stay. The evening meal in the hotel restaurant was the best hotel meal we’ve had in years!! All the staff had a great attitude, and were really helpful. We will always try and use this hotel whenever we are in Southampton.

Going down to breakfast after my first nights stay they had no record of me being in a room. It transpired that in arrival I had not been logged onto the computer and although given my room cards I was not officially there. This obviously raises concerns should I have needed to be contacted or any emergency. All was rectified for the following morning

I appreciated the staff for many reasons. I did have to wait for my room after getting off the cruise ship early and expected that. I worked and took a nap in the lobby. One very kind young man who was working in the dining/kitchen department approached me when I woke up to ask if I was ok. He told me he had been very worried about me but when he asked his manager if he should wake me up, he told him to let me sleep. He just wanted me to know he kept an eye on me to make sure I was ok. How sweet is that?! Later that night I was chilled and my room wasn't warm enough. The front desk staff brought me a folded double duvet and a space heater and I slept soundly and warmly all night. I feel they all went above and beyond. The proximetry to the train station is a bonus.

Stayed here for one night before embarking on a cruise ship. Cathy the receptionist was extremely helpful when my husband discovered he had forgotten to print some documents he needed for parking at cruise terminal. We were upgraded as it was our Ruby Wedding Anniversary and as a real treat was greeted with a lovely dessert treat saying Happy Anniversary and drinks voucher. Whole experience was 10/10 and a big thank you to Cathy and staff again. You made us a very happy couple .

Nice hotel, great breakfast. Decent, quite large rooms. Reception personell really really bad: Getting breakfast added to our already paid rooms was kind of impossible, took the breakfast manager get involved and then it worked. But getting then the right invoice with company adress on it was another nigthmare. I see a lot of hotels as being flight crew, but this receptionists are really extremely bad.

My experience staying at Novotel Hotel in Southampton. the hotel's location was convenient. However lack of air conditioning, which made the room uncomfortably hot. It's unfortunate that the small window opening didn't help much due to the noise from the busy main road. Additionally, it's disappointing that the check-in process was slow with only one staff member attending to eight people waiting. This could be improved to enhance the overall guest experience.

Would def stay again. Note that there is no AC in this hotel. They do provide a fan but it was quite warm even with. Kudos for doing their best given the heat. Stayed here for one night prior to cruising — can walk to cruise ship from hotel no problem. Lots of things to in the area. Very close to Southampton central station as well.

Booked to be as close to the train station as possible and it is actually the nearest, just across the road from the station and nearest to the cruise terminal as well (app 25 minute walk or a taxi app £10) - I was meeting my daughter for her birthday, she works on the ships, so it was an ideal spot. Walking distance to the centre of Southampton too. Staff were really nice, loved having the pool, sauna and gym included. All in all great value.

A nice stay for a budget hotel. We enjoyed a quick dip in the pool and a sauna after. The room was nice and spacious. Good location to restaurants and the Mayflower theatre. I would stay here again for the price. The only thing I don't agree with and did not pay for was the breakfast. Too expensive!!!!!!

Stayed overnight ready to join cruise ship the following day. Very convenient for the cruise terminal. Plenty of parking, quick check in. Room was a good size with fridge, complete with iron and safe. Everything you need for your stay. The toilet is separate from the bathroom which is ok but not much room. Wasn’t a huge variety on the menu for room service however I did have the soup of the day which was tomato. Homemade, piping hot when it arrived and was delicious. It was quick service with payment there and then so no waiting around to check out in the morning. Just drop your key in the drop off box and off you go. Very efficient! I would definitely stay here again.

The room was a good size and clean if a bit dated; the beds were very comfy, and we certainly appreciated the fan overnight. The bar and restaurant staff were particularly friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast had a great selection of food, but the absolute winner for my 9-year-old was the automatic pancake maker and giant Nutella Dispenser. We would definitely stay here again.
