Carter House Inns

We enjoyed our stay at Carter House. The bartender made us mocktails because we didn’t want the options that they had. I was also able to charge our EV at no cost. Location is very convenient for Eureka.

The curtains cannot block out the light, so the brightness in the early morning affects my sleep. The hotel has very few parking spaces, although it’s possible to find parking along the street.

After hours checkin process was great. Front desk did a great job recommending unloading at the back entrance for our first floor room. Ev charging on property was great. They warmed us that it sometimes doesn’t work but luckily worked just fine for us.

Love this property. I like that it has plug in for electric vehicles. The breakfast is always delicious. Cookies (homemade) are a delight. The complimentary wine for happy hour is great. Staff is the best.

Great location, restaurant and bar were wonderful- a highlight for our stay!

A charming older property just off of Old Town. Easy walkability to good food and artsy shops. In-house dining was a prix fixe affair, which may or may not be your thing, but there's plenty of other options nearby. Street parking was plentiful and the place is just a block off the 101 so very easy to find. I recommend it, especially if you are tired of staying at bland chain hotels.

Complimentary beer or wine in the evening. Complimentary breakfast. Dinner with wine pairing was very nice. Great attentive service.

There was no enough parking for our vehicle at night and we had to park on the street with lots of homeless about. The toilet kept getting stuck and wasting water. The staff in the breakfast room and front desk were nice, but needed help during the busy breakfast and afternoon check in times.

Check in was very easy and the property was pet friendly, so we were able to bring in our miniature schnauzer. There was even a back door we could bring our pooch in and out of without having to march him through the lobby and possibly disturb other guests. Sarah greeted us warmly and told us about nearby dinner options since the restaurant isn’t open on Wednesdays and even gave us a great guide as well as a simple information sheet with WiFi password, check in and out times, as well as bar and breakfast hours. (There is a free wine pour at night and complimentary breakfast worthy of a five star restaurant included in the stay.) The entire property was immaculate and handsomely appointed, including our room with queen size bed, armoire, dresser, and desk. There was a basket of goodies you could purchase from, which included chocolates, wine, and other yummy eats. The bathroom had plenty of room to spread out your toiletries and provided huge bath sheets and robes that were plush and comfy. They also had great spa worthy amenities that smelled fabulous but were not overpowering. The bedding and pillows were ultra comfy, although we barely used them since it was warm. Troy, the manager, was super friendly and was happy to talk shop (since we are in the hospitality business ourselves) and give great recommendations for things to do next time we visit. If you’re ever in Eureka, this is the place to stay, especially if you want easy accessibility to Old Town and the waterfront.

Lovely stay in a beautiful, older, and we'll maintained hotel. The breakfast was superb! The room was spacious and comfortable, and well appointed. The room was not spotlessly cleaned, but it was fine enough for us. We appreciated having an e-vehicle charging station available on site! One disappointment was that the wifi didn't reach out room. Otherwise it was a wonderful stay. We will certainly be returning!

Very much Jeckle & Hyde between public areas & bedroom. If bedroom had been same as bar & restaurant it would have been 5 stars review. Unfortunately it was not the case, poorly cleaned & prepared room, hair grip from previous occupant left on carpet, radiator cover hanging off, and cigar burn on carpet (flooring was carpet squares so not swapping that out is just lack of attention to detail). The bed was lumpy & squeaky, the curtains hardly covered the windows so lots of light pollution led to poor night's sleep. Finally, bath was chipped & stained. If in town again i could be tempted to bar or restaurant but i will stay elsewhere! If the bedroom

Even thou the Inn in the downtown area. The location is safe, plenty of parking and the facility keeps the front door lock after happy hour bar closes @ 10pm. The facility is a lovely clean cute place to stay. Troy at the front is very personable and friendly. He was a pleasure to chat with. The morning breakfast was nice and the server was a delight. She sat us to our table even thou we were a tad late. The rooms are clean and stocked with the simple amenities in the bathroom. The over all stay was lovely positive experience. I would stay here again with my dog next visit.

Except for a mistake by housekeeping, the staff was excellent. Breakfast was good. The location was not as close to old town as we’d hoped, but it was a short drive and there is plenty of parking. Shower was not cleaned. Armoire was too short to hang dresses/coats. No hooks either.

Everything was good except the marijuana joint found in the bathroom.

The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The hotel provides a lot of extras that make the stay much better than average. The historic hotel building has lots of character and class! We highly recommend, and would stay here again.

Beautiful Victorian in all the modern conveniences. Great location to see the redwoods and other interesting sites. Breakfast were amble and delicious and we had a dinner one night that was also very good. Staff was friendly and welcoming and helpful. Only issue was housekeeping was substandard. Otherwise an outstanding place to stay in Eureka.

We were in the Inn with the restaurant. Our room was a corner room (#201) and had two walls full of windows allowing for a good cross breeze (important as no air conditioning in the hotel). Troy the GM was very friendly and engaging. We ate dinner ate the 301 Restaurant in the hotel. Our meal was superb and the wine list is what you would expect from a Wine Spectator Grand Award winner. Our waitress Sabrina was very friendly and provided excellent service. This has been one of our more enjoyable hotel stays. I would highly recommend this hotel and restaurant!

Noisiest hotel I ever stayed in. I lost two full nights of sleep due to the constant noise in this hotel. They really need to clean up their act. When I complained to front desk I was met with skepticism!!! Really?? Room had no mini-fridge, no microwave and no safe for valuables. Cannot recommend this place to anyone !

Didn't like that we couldn't control the temp in our room. Was wayyyyy too warm at a point

Average at best. Our room was freezing. No additional bedding for warmth. Sheets were subpar and the mattress was uncomfortable.

Hotel was lovely and the Staff was friendly. Great location, wonderful complimentary breakfast, comfortable beds, wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. The only issue I encountered was that I couldn't connect my laptop to wifi. I tried, they tried, no dice. Haven't encountered that problem before or since I left. It's a mystery.

Property was nice with a bar & restaurant on site. Room was pretty but the bed was very firm. Also we didn't realize there was not a refrigerator in the room. I will say the staff made our stay enjoyable. Very helpful and friendly staff! We would stay here again.

This hotel reminded us of the glory days of Eureka. The room was nice, but a bit noisy as we needed open windows at night, which lets in traffic noise. The architecture of the place is great. All the staff are personable, friendly, and helpful.

The inn was quaint and in a good location for the old town area. Breakfast was good and the room was comfortable. We stayed in the main building which is quite old and there is no sound proofing. Also the tub didn't drain properly as likely older plumbing.The staff, especially Sarah, were very friendly and the complimentary wine hour is good.

The social scene in the lobby, bar, & restaurant on a Friday night was a pleasant surprise. The stay was excellent but the managment and staff were outstanding.

This staff should teach the rest of the hospitality industry how to conduct business. I was in the customer service business for thirty years, and am hyper-critical. These folks nailed it!

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. However, upon arrivial, we didn’t really feel like we were welcomed as well as we should’ve been. The concierge seemed not so customer friendly. The bed was very small and not very comfortable. The overall ambience of the property was beautiful & for the most part we really enjoyed our stay.

Absolutely delightful. The staff is amazing Troy, Diana, and Kat. They did outstanding work, including helping us hand, deliver wine to our room so we could relax from a long drive. They care about how their guests are doing feeling and are comfortable. It’s just beautiful.

Had a fantastic stay at the Carter Inn! The hotel is full of charm and character, with incredibly comfortable beds. Troy and the front desk team went above and beyond. Don’t miss the breakfast - it was definitely a highlight!

The staff here wins all the awards! Had an amazing stay and even when I messed my reservation up, they accommodated me and did so in the most gracious way possible. If my son chooses college in the area, we’ll be regulars for sure!

Beautiful property, fantastic service, and outstanding staff. Loved it. Second time here, and we’ll be back next year!

This is a beautiful property and it is fantastically maintained and run. We were impressed and well taken care of by everyone on staff. They recommended a dinner restaurant that we loved. The complementary breakfast was delicious as well. The only downside is that Eureka is looking very run down. I recommend the property.

We loved the room and proximity to Old Eureka. It's unfortuneate Eureka has a fair amount of homeless individuals in the area.

We woke up at 1:30 am to the sound of homeless men rummaging in trash cans, just outside the parking lot fence, with bright flashlights. Lots of glass bottles dropping into metal dumpsters.

An oasis in the middle of downtown Eureka. Very nice accommodations and very friendly staff. There are a number of homeless people in the area and we heard a lot of idd sounds during the night. Dinner and breakfast was very good. Would stay here again if in Eureka.

Booked this place due to its unique Victorian character. Neighborhood very sketchy… near courthouse and jail. Advertised free breakfast, when entered dining area buffet of only gluten full selection, nothing was gluten free. Breakfast menu offered egg dishes for $25. We checked out and went in search of a diner. Also, our room didn’t have a phone! Do they assume everyone has a cell phone? I think this is a safety issue, especially in case of an emergency.
