DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel St. Paul Downtown

It was perfectly normal, if you needed a place for an overnight stay like I had, then it will do the job. The beds were soft and comfortable, the staff was nice, and unlike some other hotels in the area, the security deposit/parking fee wasn't outrageous. However, everything else wasn't great. First, the bathroom was extremely small, the toilet is pressed against the sink, and the shower felt dirty. You only get like 40 channels, only maybe 10 were popular channels. Plus, the tv remote barely worked. You can hear if someone is in the hall talking as the walls are thin as hell. Breakfast was 22$ for a buffet, but 22$ per person seems way to expensive. Pool was small and smelled horrible. Gym looked nice though!! A lot of construction nearby which was a pain to get through.

Parking is $23. Breakfast is $16/per. No cookie on arrival. Elevators are fast and smooth. Wood fired pizza is "ok". Room service is fast. Only runs from 4p to 10p, however. Heated indoor pool. Our 2 dbl bed room was upgraded for free to King. Very comfortable bed sheets and pillows. Extremely clean! Much appreciated. Theres street construction out front right now. But the streets arent horribly busy so not too much of a hassle. About 5 or 6 blocks away from Excel. 2 areas of construction to walk around but still only a 15min walk tops. Safe. Highly recommend. Great value.

The parking garage vs pick up/drop off area is difficult to navigate, and parking is FAR too expensive. The rooms themselves are perfectly decent, pretty clean and updated, a solid option for a city hotel.

A little run down. Could be cleaner and updated. Garage entrance system was not always working.

Hotel was nice for a one night stay. Within walking distance of restaurants and the xcel center. Hotel restaurant was understaffed. Pool area was dirty and so were the elevators. Staff was very friendly!

We stayed for a night and it was pretty good. Our room was clean and comfortable. We had to pay $22 dollars for one night of parking on top of our reservation. When we asked about getting reimbursed, the clerk told us that they don't cover parking for one night. This wasn't ideal and for a quick stay, we would probably go somewhere else so that we wouldn't need to park in the ramp.

Hotel was easy to access with parking close. Room was clean and quiet, didn’t hear other guests at all. The staff were always exceptionally polite and helpful. The gym had all the basics, was clean, and equipment was clean and functional. Overall would stay again.

The entire place was under construction. Not their fault, just wish you had a clue about parking before going there

Shortly after checking into our room, multiple fingernails were found on the floor and bed, even though the bed was made. A hair was found in the bathroom, which can easily happen and not a cause for too much concern but, upon closer inspection, hair clippings were found on the floor surrounding the toilet and next to the tub. One can assume what part of the body those came from. The room was very disappointing from a cleanliness standpoint. These issues were brought to the front desk and were quickly remedied. The woman working the desk was very helpful and accommodating and offered us an upgraded room to make our stay more comfortable. This new room was cleaner and put us more at ease during our stay. The only critique of the upgraded room, and also applicable to our original room, is that it was very dated. Overall, the front desk staff was awesome but the hotel is in desperate need of updates, renovations, and a higher standard for housekeeping. Next time we'll be looking at a different hotel.

Hotel staff was nice, the main areas of the hotel seemed nice as well. The check in situation isn’t ideal with the small area for cars to park in. I’d recommend parking in the ramp next door before checking in. Room was okay ish, the bathroom was dirty, hair in the shower that wasn’t ours. We found chips under the bed. We weren’t there for very long so it was fine but I wouldn’t stay there again.

The bathroom was gross and had crud built up in corners of the room. The bedsheets smelled weird. The hallway carpet (floor 16) was bubbling (?) as if there was previous water damage that wasn’t properly fixed.

Our room was not the cleanliness. There were stains all over the lamp shade, hair in the tub, and dust on a lot of the surfaces. In addition our room was extremely hot and the air conditioning did not work.

All the staff we interacted with were nice, professional, helpful, and courteous. Our room was very clean. Parking was very easy. The pool area was very nice.

Our room was very dirty. Crumbs left on tables, you could tell it had not been vacuumed in awhile. We walked to the Palace Theater and it was very unsafe up the street.

Love the location. Our room wasn’t bad, a little dingy. Our fridge wasn’t on and it took us a bit to figure it out. Also the heat was either not able to be controlled by us or too difficult to figure out. Breakfast not included but the price is worth it

Room was ok, overlooked ballroom so I was disturbed due to an event happening.

Very convenient... but whew the rooms are straight out of 1995 with the nasty bathroom fixtures to match. Staff is very friendly though.

Hotel is worn and tired looking. Room small but comfortable, but shower not working well. Elevator shakes. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Would be good if they had valet parking, parking garage is cold and a bit intimidating late at night.

The front desk staff was amazing, helpful for parking etc. She was awesome. Room was small, smelled of smoke. Over looked a ballroom which was noisy as they were having a wedding or something. Area outside had many people loitering throughout the day and night. Made us feel uneasy to walk places. Ubers were easy to catch though.

Its a older building. the room was nice. Good bed and shower. The air conditioning was not the best. Restaurant in the hotel was good. Downtown is a bit empty.

I think it was nice enough for an old downtown hotel. Uncomfortable beds or pillows. AC didn’t keep up. TV lost its connectivity many times. Late night wedding music and neighbors banging into floor or walls were noticed but not horrible.

The hotel was fine overall but definitely showing its age. The carpet in the hallways is rippling and could be a tripping hazard. There were a couple of weddings during our stay, so it was very busy and quite loud at times. The bar doesn’t open until 3 PM, which was a little disappointing. The downtown St. Paul area has a lot of homeless activity, so I’d recommend taking an Uber to get around.

The staff stood out for how friendly they were. Maybe I have spent too much time outside the Midwest and normal people just stand out, but I was always really satisfied with any and all interactions I had with the folks who worked at the hotel.

The hotel was very nice. Room good. Front reservation desk attendant rude and dismissive.

Booked and informed them of a late arrival and my room was still given away. Had to walk to another hotel at 2am.

The front desk staff was super amazing and helpful. They helped with a parking issue and were very efficient, intelligent, and accommodating!

We prepaid for 2 rooms. Only 1 was ready when we arrived so we checked into 1 room and put all our bags in there and then went t a concert. When we came back at 1am they had given our other room away that we had already paid for in full. You cannot put 4 grown adults in 1 king size bed. We then had to cancel our other room and find hotel rooms an hour south of St. Paul because everything was sold out. The rooms were already paid for before we even arrived and they gave 1 room away with no notification so we had nowhere to sleep and they wouldn't even help us find another room anywhere else. Terrible service. We checked into a hotel in Rochester at 3am. I am terribly disappointed in DoubleTree and this issue

I was locked out of my room for the night without any access to my personal belongings, including toiletries, clothing, personal items, or even my child's medication. The staff EVENTUALLY gave me a different room to sleep in for the night and stated that building maintenance would arrive the following morning to repair the broken door lock at which point I could retrieve my belongings. I was then promised I would be reimbursed for my stay due to this very poor experience, but after leaving the property, the hotel claimed to not know anything about the situation during multiple attempts to follow up. Needless to say, I was never reimbursed, they were just saying anything they could to get me to leave.

On arrival was told computers were down and I could not get a room key. Had to be escorted to my room to get in. Info said “parking available”, but I did not know that meant it was pay to park and that it would cost $24 for overnight parking. Streets around double tree torn up, difficult to get in or out of the hotel. Went for a night cap in the hotel bar, and got poor, almost surly service from the bartender, despite giving fair tips after every drink. Room and amenities were great. But the at check out, desk clerk was so unfriendly as to be almost surly. What the heck?

Close to events and restaurants. Having the public transit right next to it is great for going places, but horrible for the amount of homeless people passed out around it.

Great stay! Close to Xcel Energy Center for hockey game and close to Palace Theatre for concert! Short walk to both venues via skywalk!

We liked that it was walking distance to the Xcel Energy Center and some nice bars and retaurants. We had our little grandkids with and felt safe the whole time.

Worked great to walk indoors to Wild game.

Easy to check in and then park. Was super easy walk to Arena.

I chose this hotel walking distance of a venue where I had concert tickets. I did not know the area and when I arrived, the streets were all torn up and under construction. I wasn’t sure if it was drivable but I found the hotel and checked in. The lady working at the front desk was very helpful in giving me directions on how to best get to the venue through/around the construction. She really put my mind at ease. Also free bottles of water and warm cookies - fabulous!!

The hotel was amazing although the area was not a safe area.

Nice location in downtown St Paul. Staff was polite and helpful. The road in front of the hotel was completely torn up, which obviously isn’t the fault of the hotel but it did detract slightly from the stay. The room was nice but the bathroom was very small, and the shower ceiling was quite low. However everything was clean and well maintained. It is disappointing that breakfast wasn’t included in the cost of the room.

It is 10+ min walk to the river center and the walk has to be through very shady and scary areas with about 3-4 police cars interrogating someone. The hotel is good, staff is good - but you have to step outside which is scary. If you were to walk around St Paul Downtown with kids, I would not recommend this because of the location.

All restaurants/businesses around hitel were closed. Not sure if it was due to being a Monday night, but was inconvenient to not hage the food options right there. Also, did like that there wasnot a free continental breakfast or parking for guests.

Front desk staff are very unwelcoming. We needed to ask them something, tried to call from the room and no one answered so we went to the front desk- which was not busy- and they seemed extremely bothered!! We had breakfast onsite one day because there really aren’t many dining options around & the onsite “restaurant “ was what most hotels offer as included— continental style, such as waffle maker, muffins, mini yogurts, etc. They did have eggs but they were cold and overcooked. I usually love doubletree, but I was let down by this one!!

I had to take off a star...This is a great hotel, and the room was very comfortable. But at the price we paid, to be charged extra for parking and then $20 per person for breakfast, when the options available for breakfast were really no better than those we had at the Econolodge the night previous? Are you serious? For a breakfast that expensive, you would expect at least some fresh eggs and sausage or something like that. Yes, there was fresh fruit. But the only eggs were the cold hard boiled kind that come in a bag, and everything else was carbs. I'm prediabetic and CANNOT start the day with sugar and carbs, I need protein. Had to choke down the hard boiled eggs along with the anger at paying that kind of money.

The hotel was nice and clean. Rooms were comfortable and the staff were very nice. BUT there are no included extras. There is a parking ramp and you pay for parking. There’s a breakfast buffet that is $20. Nowhere is it clearly posted except online. We did pay for the buffet, what was offered was not worth the money at all, we just paid for the convenience of not having to get ready to go out to a restaurant. It is not a buffet by any means the only hot food options were prepackaged sandwiches you can warm in the microwave or waffles that are offered at every rinky dink hotel. It was all really confusing. While we were eating the buffet there was a couple that dished up plates and then got told they would be charged $20 each. They were not happy and walked out. There were numerous other people who were confused/disappointed by the whole breakfast set up coming in while we ate. While listening to the staff try to explain how breakfast worked (there was a serious language barrier) we found out that you can also get the food a la carte. Sigh. Had that been explained to begin with I wouldn’t have paid $20 for the buffet just to get a prepackaged microwave sandwich and some fruit. I would’ve stuck with just the sandwich. So all in all a nice comfortable place to stay, just steer clear of the “breakfast buffet” trap.

$22 for that breakfast buffet? Choice hotels has better for free. Microwave and cold options only. One night woke up to a woman yelling help me get him away from me and lots of thudding above me. One night woke up to a large dog barking.

Everything was lovely about this hotel, except for the service in the Town Grill.

Room was not what I've come to expect from a DoubleTree. It was average, at best. To charge $20 per person for the "breakfast buffet" is ridiculous, considering its the same muffins and pastries you get at a Motel 6 for free.

The price is great for the area. The staff was wonderful with check-in and help wit directions, transportation..anything! Room is clean. The restaurant had closed so that was disappointing.
