The Saint Paul Hotel

The hotel is beautiful. The staff were friendly and efficient.  We ordered room service twice and both times the food and service was excellent.   Our room was very nice and the bed was very comfortable. We had an awesome view of the cathedral. The flower gardens were beautiful. You need to be aware that if you stay there they’re going to charge you for anything extra. For example, parking cost us $40 per day. They don’t really say this on the website, but it’s important to factor that into the cost of the room. The valets were very nice.  The restaurant is pricey and there are not a lot of other food options downtown for dinner that are in walking distance. The Hotel is located right in the middle of downtown and has excellent views of the cathedral and across from a beautiful fountain and park.  It has many walkable things to see. The downside of it being located in the center of downtown is there are quite a few homeless and pot smoking people who spend time hanging out at the fountain across the street and around the area.   This definitely takes away from the charm and feeling of safety when exploring the area. We were approached a few times for money and we watched the police show up several times but they did not ask them to move on. On the riverfront, people were using the nice fountains to bathe and brush their teeth. We were told not to use the public transit or tunnels because the homeless live there and use the trains and tunnels for sleeping and toilets.

Beautiful historic hotel, walking distance to xcel. Pristine staff and accommodations. Fancy! Chandeliers and fireplace in lobby, very nice bar and grille near lobby. Beautiful and comfortable rooms. Very impressed. $40 valet for car. No other parking available:

Our second stay and enjoyed it both times. We’re discussing with another pair of guests, and we agreed: the only downside is the elevators, while otherwise great, are a bit slow. Not much to complain about!

The Saint Paul Hotel is absolutely beautiful. My boyfriend used to come every year with his family. It was exciting to be able to bring him back and enjoy as adults. It was a wonderful experience staying during the holidays. There are so many beautiful decorations in the lobby. They had live music and drinks, which was super fun. I will say the only issue I had was with the valet. Upon checkout, we waited for about an hour for a car. We were the first ones out of a large group of people that came to get their vehicles and we sat there for about 50 minutes after originally being helped. At one point, everyone disappeared came back about 20 minutes later asked if we had ever been helped. They did say they had an issue with the car keys, but nobody said anything to us over that hour. I was a bit disappointed due to the reputation of the hotel that this was our experience. The valet even expected a tip after having us wait so long and no apologies or even recognition was extended to us.

The location, the property condition and staff service were excellent. An improvement I may recommend is the guidance on the area parking since only valet parking is available at the hotel. If hotel has a map or guidance on the area public parking which is plenty available, that will be a great addition to this top quality hotel

I stayed in room 1015 and the bathroom shower is ripped from inside. There is a lot of black hair in the wall as well. The phone wasnt working and minibar fridge was locked. The hotel is very udated like last time they had any updates 30 years ago or even longer. I understand its old but its not plesant and feels dirty. The window to the tight had a gap shouft and cold was coming in from inside. I think its missing a window seal. No parking and its hard to find a parking on the street. Not happy with my stay

Staff were friendly, room was clean. Mini bar was a nice addition ( you have to pay for items but it's about the same price of any if the bars in the area) Cool to be in a historic building.

The St. Paul Hotel is VERY clean! The decor is fancy-traditional, the beds are excellent, supportive & comfortable. The sheets are luxurious. Bathrobes and slippers are a nice amenity. Such top-notch quality all around from the people on their staff. Stroll through their garden path, it is a beautiful oasis for all creatures great and small. Highly recommend staying here!

When you walk in and through out the hallways and in the room it smells of old stale cigarette smoke. We were given a key to an occupied room. The elevator lobby on the floor we were staying had 8 empty can of beer and energy drinks tossed about on the table. Carpet in our new room hadn't been vacuumed and was visibly dirty.

I have always loved this hotel, was excited to bring my daughter. It seemd dingy, and I could smell smoke. Walking outside was not safe, homeless, no police we could see. It was during the day we were stopped 3 times in 1 block. Diana at The Grill is a godsend! She should get a raise she is The Best!! Only reason I would go back.

Its always so extremely clean.

The rooms are showing their age. Nothing has changed in the many years I have been coming here. This stay in particular though was worse. Our room felt damp. Really no other way to describe it than it just felt wet. The was no air circulation and it felt gross. Very expensive hotel for the quality of rooms.

We were able to walk to the Excel Energy Centre for a hockey game. Room and bed were excellent. Slept well. Nice and quiet.

The Bellman in top hats is a great touch! Everyone was very attentive and courteous. Beautiful rooms and lobby My one complaint is the water in the shower is either scorching hot or freezing. It never really got to the correct temperature.

Service is top notch always! Hotel was very quiet, cool history, and lobby and common areas are lovely and elegant. Deluxe room however left a bit to be desired. Furnishings are clearly dated (looks they would've been fresh in the 1980s/90s), no free water ($6 bottles in minibar), bathroom is super basic, small, and dated as well. Shower water pressure and temp were awesome but the size of the tub/shower and the cheap floaty shower curtain got water all over. Towels and robes are scratchy and don't feel luxe. Luxe price for the weekend, but not as luxe of a full experience as we would've hoped.

Could hardly turn around in the room!!

St Paul Hotel is a classic. Beautifully appointed but showing a bit of wear around the edges. Room was super quiet and nice size. Very clean. Only slight annoyance was the AC unit which sounded like a diesel engine cranking up. (RM 204). Ordered Room Service breakfast. Super fast delivery. Only slightly more expensive than same at the bar.

The rooms are lovely, but could use upgrades. For example, there are no vents in the bathroom, and some of the rooms-bathtubs, toilets-are dated and could be updated. Five stars for an extraordinary staff!

The room was beautiful. However the tub did not drain properly and the shower head was broken.

The staff is just outstanding at every turn. Helpful doesn't even begin to describe them!

All was great until valet broke my rear window while parking

I was charged $14.03 for incidentals but when I checked in I noticed a bottle was missing from the minifridge. I didn't think of anything about it until I got a charge after checking out. I think I was charged for a bottle of alcohol that I didn't drink and that was not rightfully charged to the prior guest. Also, I ordered room service. It was over two hours late! At least they were honest that they forgot about my order, so I gave 2 stars for service rather than 1. Instead of comping the meal they offered me a piece of cheese cake and a glass of bland wine (I am not even a wine drinker).

The staff at the Saint Paul hotel was fantastic. Highly recommend you stay at this historic landmark in Saint Paul.

Cool historic downtown hotel. Parking is rough, which is to be expected in a downtown hotel - the valets were hopping though (we found a street spot). Check-in was surprisingly unwelcoming. Room-service food options are varied, but the result was sub-par. I'd suggest dining in person or find an alternative option. Bed was comfortable. Shower was fantastic. Clean.

Fantastic stay. Everyone was so accommodating. My son brought the wrong cord for his PlayStation and the staff went above and beyond to find him the correct HDMI cord. Beautiful historic hotel in a gorgeous location. We even got to enjoy a stroll down the garden path.

Service was excellent from valet service thru check in. All staff had smiles on their face and you could tell they truly cared

Valet and people at the front door were very nice and attentive. Check in and front desk- business like but brisk. Not mean but weren’t friendly and didn’t go out of their way to be pleasant. Very weird! Beautiful hotel. Very special hotel.

Charming hotel near the XCel Center and other St. Paul attractions including many wonderful restaurants and bars. Ideal location. Historic building.

Beautiful historic hotel, very convenient location if attending an event at the xcel energy center, st paul grill bar was fantastic for grabbing a pre concert drink too.

Comfortable rooms just steps from the Xcel Energy Center. The absolute best place to stay for an event in downtown St. Paul. We will be back.

What a beautiful historic hotel. We enjoyed our stay! The location was perfect. So close and walkable to so many local attractions. Also, a very brief walk to the Mississippi River where there is a pretty path. Thank you.

Central location

Classic hotel and beautiful facilities. The beds are very comfortable, the rooms are very quiet and well equipped with all you need. It’s in a great location with river views, Rice Park across the street, the Ordway Theater across the park and good restaurants on site or within a 5 minute stroll. We used valet parking.

Beautiful hotel, perfect spot in St Paul. The restaurant is white tablecloth fine dining. That said, aside from the tremendous selection of whiskies at the bar, the rest of the menu fails to impress. Just not a great selection, and the preparation is not consistent with a 5-Star restaurant, and one I spent some $500 at. Was a disappointment, though quite convenient and hearty fare.

The restaurant has upgraded incredibly since the last time we dined last year. Excellent food and service! Rose, our server was extraordinary!

Great experience! We loved the valet service when we arrived and everyone was super friendly that worked there. The condition of the room was older, but well kept and clean. Definitlet try breakfast at The Drake in the morning. The food was amazing for the price and the service was amazing. The location was walking distance to our concert venue and lots of bar and restaurant options. We will be staying there again!

Was a great place with great staff! The food for the room service menu was also amazing! Could recommend more!

Lovely stay. Property is dated, with west in furnishings, bathroom, etc. could use a freshen up or facelift. Service was excellent, bars and restaurants are wonderful, though the lack of food availability past 10pm was disappointing. Would have expected to have some type of offerings through room service at least until midnight.

Beautiful hotel. Great location for many activities in downtown St. Paul. The food at both the Saint Paul Grill and room service was excellent.

The St. Paul Hotel does not have the sparkle it once had~ return from our evening event at 10:45 and the entire bar/restaurant was closed. We could not get any service. The beautiful restaurant not available for breakfast. It is a total loss of its charm! I’m so sad!

We had a lovely stay. Upgraded to a beautiful suite for a discount. The food in The Grill was delicious.
