I have to preface this with, I have been coming to the Boar's Head for at least a decade and even had my wedding guests stay here - that is how much I loved this resort. However, it seems like attention to detail has deteriorated while prices have continued to climb. The rooms in the main building probably need a little more attention than what they are being given....recently we had one room that had lots of fuzzy, green mold (?) growing on the air vent (to the point that I had to open windows to breath) and another that had very little water pressure, and what was there was lukewarm. Most of the staff are nice but I question some of the resort's entertainment choices - not always family friendly, especially when one of the their "family friendly" activities was featuring a Playboy Playmate who had naked pictures of herself prominently displayed on social media channels. Maybe try the Kimpton or Keswick, both newer, nice, clean resorts - and comparable to BH.

Elevator out of service for the whole week. Spiders in seating area outside of room. Broken shelf in bathroom. Dirty spotty rug in room. Amenities not filled in bathroom. Broken door on closet. Patio door hard to open. Bathroom door swelled up at night but worked fine during the day. Ceiling light fixture rattled when someone in the room above us walked around.

The grounds are beautiful. Our room was dark and smelled like bleach and had a very loud air-conditioning unit that kept us up all night whenever it would kick on. The service was so slow. Took over an hour to check in. Took over an hour to get our food. The presentation was beautiful, but the steak was not edible. The soup was very good but so small. The portion sizes for kids was very good. If there is a better room available, they should offer it so the experience is not so terrible . We did not sleep at all so the next day we were able to do anything. Our room was about 300 for the night and it felt like $150 room.

The beds were so old and lumpy. They came by and agreed the beds needed replacing but did not replace the following day as promised. We felt very rushed out of the room starting at 9am (check out is at 11am) we got three separate knocks on the door to see if we were still there. Sadly a very uncomfortable stay.

We got there and I'm not sure why, but they didn't have our room ready but supposedly they upgraded our room .. the room was nice but the temperature in the room was 76°. We tried to set the air-conditioning but it didn't seem to work .We called and they sent a tech out . He came and supposedly fixed it.We went to dinner and when we returned, the temperature had gone down maybe 3-4° but did not seem to be working well. In the middle of the night the temperature in our room was over 80° and needless to say we didn't sleep well . At checkout ,my wife pointed out that the air-conditioning still wasn't right and we were obviously not happy about our evening. She was told that other people had the same issue and there was nothing they would do for us . It felt as though it was somehow the guests fault. Considering the cost of the room ,the dismissive answer was incredibly disappointing. Would not stay there again or recommend .

Air conditioning was broken, had a large fan sitting in the room. carpet was thread bear. bed uncomfortable. toilet did not flush correctly. Generally outdated and not well maintained. For the price this place is not worth the $$.

I have always loved the Boar’s Head. However, I stayed in the main hotel for the first time for two nights and the walls are simply not sound proof. The room was beautiful and immaculate. But, the first night, I was awoken at 3am by a woman on her phone in the next room. She then was on her phone again at 6:30am and woke me up a second time. I complained to the front desk and they said she had checked out. The second night I was there, there were people talking until about 1:30am in the next room and I could hear everything.

Check in was smooth but our room had to be the furthest from the resorts restaurant. Why? There was no evidence of full capacity. Room was comfortable, thermostat difficulty to operate and shower head very old fashioned. No bedside clock while appropriate number of recharging outlets. Curtains kept room dark. Overall, low value compared to price paid.

Love this place. Could use some improvement on check in (took way too long), pillows (need some feather or more comfortable option) the ones on our bed were very uncomfortable. Offer breakfast off of a menu on one of the weekend days vs. mediocre Buffet.

It was difficult to locate rooms in the dark and the directions provided by front desk sent us in the wrong direction. During registration we were not told that there was an elevator which caused us to carry heavy luggage up a flight of stairs. We found the elevator upon our departure.

Concierge Mycala and the rest of the Boars Head staff were welcoming, friendly and extremely professional. I recommend this beautiful property for anyone looking for a Charlottesville getaway. I cannot express enough the beauty and pure joy of this exquisite property! You must go and experience it for yourself and your loved ones.

Our room did not have a functioning HVAC. They came to fix it but never communicated with me and nothing improved. I was told that I would be compensated for two uncomfortable nights but haven’t received any proactive communications. Additionally no one has returned my inbound calls. Bad service.

We loved out stay. This was our first time visiting and will definitely be back. Be sure to bring a good pair of trail/hiking boots if you want to do the trails. There’s more than enough equipment available in the sports club and the saunas are a great way to wrap up an intense workout. We had breakfast at the Mill Room, but not dinner - we wanted to try out the local food scene. Breakfast was delicious! We opted for the buffet instead of a la carte and it worked out perfectly. The view of the lake from the dining room was a great way to start our day. I can’t wait to come back!

Stayed here for my 40th birthday trip. Close to wineries and downtown. Had a great dinner at the Mill House for celebrating. Room was very quiet, grounds were beautiful. We are onsite at two other more casual options and food was excellent and service. While we didn’t golf, the course looked lovely and free putting at one restaurant. The outdoor pool was wonderful, our baby loved it, and the fitness center was huge. Only room dining is breakfast, which we did twice and was delicious and convenient. We had a great stay and will definitely be back in the future. Was a perfect family stay.

I was greeted and assisted by Jon at check in and assisted by JB at check out. They were both kind, welcoming and friendly. The male at the front desk walked away both times I approached the desk so I had no interaction with him; the lady was professional, but it was not what I usually experience as a guest. I’m accustomed to warm greetings. No one else was checking in while I was was there so I have nothing of which to compare their interactions. The grounds were well lit. The room and bath were spacious, clean and comfortable although the furniture, carpet and decor was a bit dated. The room needed to be aired out but I travel with an air purifier and the air was clean after about 20 minutes of the purifier and air sanitizer. I appreciated the comforts of the in-room amenities, especially the sound machine. I was traveling for work and appreciated the quiet and serenity of the views and sounds of the lake. I enjoyed my in-room dining experience and thank Keisha again for her kindness and hospitality. Breakfast was amazing each day. I felt safe, the bed was comfortable and I had a great time at the University. I typically stay at the Omni on the Downtown Mall but wanted to be away from the busyness for this trip.

Service, room, cleanliness, check in, parking all excellent. Food was the issue. First night we just had bar food because we arrived after the restaurant closed so there were only a few options which was fine. Burgers were ok. Next night we ate in the restaurant The Mill Room and the good was not good and yet expensive. The manger noticed our food left on the plate and he was very nice and tried to offer us a substitute but nothing else looked appetizing on the very limited menu. The veggies were cold, overcooked and tasteless, the steak was rubbery and the chicken was small, boring and missing the peanut gravy which I had to ask for and it came out cold… we had to ask for our $15 drinks 2x.. I was embarrassed for them., the staff was very nice but something was definitely off, this was not a $250 meal.

Great place to stay and play tennis and golf. Beautiful grounds. The food options could expand. There is only one resturaunt for dinner with a limited and pricey menu. We went out to dinner most nights because of this. Overall we enjoyed our stay.
