Hilton Garden Inn Portsmouth Downtown

Major construction ongoing. No pool. No restaurant. No breakfast. Unlikely to change for at least 10-12 weeks based on the current condition of the hotel. Cost is exorbitant for the condition. Worse than a Motel 6. Location is great but it will be hard to come back from this. We were in a "renovated" room. Outlets on both sides of the bed didn't work. Toilet didn't flush correctly. Shower was configured incorrectly so difficult to change temperature. Light bulbs left in night stand drawer. Blue painters tape left on artwork with location of position in the room. Ice machine on our floor which was "finished" was inoperable. Both front desk employees were so casually dressed as to appear homeless. Recommendation to ownership, 1. fire everyone and start over. 2. Hire a team to go through every room on every floor and create a lunch list. There are electrical, plumbing and finish issues that need addressing.

No parking available other than down the street ar a city paid parking spot or $45 for valet parking.

We picked this place due to the bar and location. Upon entering the whole place was being remodeled, no bar, only one elevator that took forever to use due to construction equipment and other guests. Stairs were only an option going down an they led to the street and could not be reentered. Price seemed the same if not a lil more than the surrounding hotels which seemed a little unfair considering the construction, etc...

They scheduled major construction and turned off water to the building (no toilet, no hand washing, etc) with no notice to any of the hotel guests. We paid the same (high price) as their competitors downtown, but had to use bathroom in nearby bar and skip showers. We had no available restaurant, gym facilities, bar, etc. My polite email and call to the GM went unanswered. The only notice was a sign in the closed public space. Other guests shared the same story. The “Hilton Promise” sign is a cynical reminder that the test of good service is a promise fulfilled, not one made. That’s called something else

The door to enter the hotel was locked and required a room key or call on a an intercom system. Like the extract security. Didn’t like the parking cost of $45.00 a day.

My girlfriend and i were unaware of the extensive renovations going on at this hotel. Renovations included the pool hot tub and restaurant all being closed. This information needs to be posted more clearly at the beginning not five pages down in the description.

Newly renovated, outstanding location and within walking distance to dining and shopping. Buffet breakfast not so great, and a charge on top of that. Restaurant closed, which for me was a drag because available breakfast not so great. Lastly, $45 for valet only was not ideal.

Everything about the hotel was very nice, except for parking. I don't think they had any parking of their own and charged $40, per day to park your car. Terrible!

I always stay here but very disappointed that we didn’t know that the pool was closed. They did not have that listed on their website

Was very convenient as far as walking downtown, as far as parking you really had no option but to Valet at $45 a day..Other parking garages available but not convenient. Staff very friendly but not informative at all with surrounding area(directions, best restaurants ,transportation etc) TV cable horrible. Ice machines didn't work most of the time. In house restaurant very limited. A little disappointed for Hilton

The room was really clean. The only negative are the chairs in the rooms are hard as a rock and not comfortable.

The shower curtain was orange at the bottom and it was one of the quick change ones that had not been changed in quite some time. I had the front desk send someone up to swap it. The bottom of the shower was mildewed. Also, suggested to front desk that they shut that room down and let it soak in bleach overnight.

Very clean room and common areas. Room was spacious and comfortable. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good location walkable to everything in the downtown area.

I’ve sent lots of family to stay here as a Portsmouth resident, but I stayed here myself for the first time and was very disappointed. My room had frayed bedspreads and the beds look like they weren’t made, just thrown together. My shower had lots of mold. Very surprised as we usually stay at Hiltons. Will not return.

Worst bathroom condition I've ever seen at a Hilton property. Black mold and mildew all around the tub. Shabby bedcovers. Too bad because its in an excellent location.

How about toilet papet in the bathroom. Also, mold in our shower. Nice location!

There for 3 nights, 4 days, no housekeeping (beds were never made) Couldn’t order food. Trash in the hallways all day and night.

No housekeeping. When we asked for our room to be cleaned Front Desk said we needed to go find her in the hallway. We did not find her. More like a roadside motel in terms of room quality and cleanliness and amenities. Nice pool though.

The location of the hotel couldn't be better. We were able to go back and forth from our room to different restaurants, bars, and shops; all within a very short walking distance. The hotel staff from check-in/check-out to valet staff to housekeeping were all extremely polite and helpful. The only drawbacks were that the phone chargers near the bed didn’t work, the pillows were very uncomfortable (flat), the shower stall had no shelf to place my toiletries on, and the windows didn’t have room darkening shades. Despite these minor issues, we would go back to this hotel because the location was perfect and the staff were very polite.

The room was nice and even more spacious for a typical 2 bed room and a family of 4. However, the walls were very thin. While the woman next door were just up late and chatting, it was as if they were in the same room.

The shower was awful. It has so many gadgets and it was hard to figure out.

The valet was high. So high that he had a difficult time communicating and asked the same questions multiple times within our 3-4 minute interaction. Albeit… it was hilarious. The room was clean and comfortable aside from the temperature. The AC seems to barely work and shuts off completely when you are sleeping. Overall, it was okay but overpriced.

The hotel is in an excellent location and the staff that I encountered was very pleasant. And overall the hotel is nice. But it needs some updating. Scuffed and worn out is a term that comes to mind. There was a small crack in the mirror in my room along with worn-out carpet patches and other areas that need to be cleaned/fixed/updated. I was there for less than a day for a business meeting and for that, it was great. But some may find these things an issue. Especially if you're there for a longer stay or a vacation.

We have stayed many times at this particular location and always enjoy, however we noticed a few minor changes that we would like to address. The front desk staff was less than accommodating when we had questions regarding our bill and the housekeeping left empty tissue holders and lack of extra toilet paper. Upon looking at the cleanliness of our room there was stains on the bedding and one of the lamp shades had an unpleasant color which was questionable as to what it was. Hopefully staff will be more attentive in the future.

I'm not sure if its the 3rd time in a 3 night stay housekeeping needs to say are you checking out? Not good morning. I also spoke with the front desk 3 times on the same subject and yup.. each day I'm there. I think it's clear they are either going out of business, desperate to stay in business, nothing in the room. not a pen or a bible.... not to mention the art in my room... had to cover with pillow cases the evil images were too much. It was quiet... Pay you staff more Hilton. ps if if you pay for valet DO NOT assume they'll get you a luggage cart and help you to your room... oh no. i booked a handicap room for a reaon and they did NOTHING to help. If you have needs DO NOT STAY HERE.

My wife and I checked into the\xa0 Hilton Garden Inn Portsmouth Downtown on January 2, 2023. At check in, I requested that our room be cleaned by housekeeping the next morning. The next morning, my wife and I went out for the day. We returned to the room at around 2:45. We wanted to relax in the room and maybe take a swim before going to dinner. The room had not been cleaned. I called the front desk and the women who answered the phone stated that she would have housekeeping come up to clean the room. Now we do not know what to do. We thought we should not be in the room when they were cleaning. I went to the front desk and the women there told me to my face that the room would be cleaned in 30 minutes. My wife and I decided to take a walk (in the rain) to wait for the room to be cleaned. 45 minutes later, I called the front desk. They informed me that housekeeping was gone for the day and our room would not be cleaned. Needless to say, I was rather aggravated. However, I said fine, but please bring 4 towels and a box of Kleenex to the room. We went back to the dirty room and there were no towels and no Kleenex. I called the front desk and the women in a fairly snippy response stated that housekeeping had left for the day. I suggested that she bring us our towels and Kleenex. 20 minutes later, what seemed to be a handy man brought us 3 towels and supplies that we did not ask for. This was perhaps the most aggravating hotel stay I have ever had. The management should be sent to c

High prices for room that didn't get cleaned daily. We had to request fresh bath towels and do not consider first class treatment. Will not stay at Hilton anytime in the future.

The one guy working at the Valet service was not nice. Rude actually. But the hotel was beautiful and the other staff were fantastic.

The day before our stay, I called to inquire about early check-in because the shuttle bus was picking us up at 3:00 to head to a wedding. The female that I spoke with was unfriendly and attitude was pretty much, sorry, it's first come serve, can't guarantee anything. The morning of, I called again and spoke with a very kind man with an accent that marked us as early check-in. There was no problem. The hotel itself was fine, the room was a great size, it was just a little musty smelling.

Great place to stay when visiting downtown Portsmouth! We were a block away from the main streets - a very walkable city.

The hotel location is good. You can walk to shops and restaurants. Room was clean and property was well maintained.

The property is just on the outskirts of all the main streets in downtown Portsmouth. You can park your car in the municipal lot across the street for the weekend and walk everywhere you want to go.

I booked the Hilton through Expedia and did not get the room I requested. The beds in the hotel looked like they were slept on. Definitely in need of new linens and found the mattress topper to be dirty. I have enjoyed staying at Hilton hotels in the past, but will think twice next time. Also, I was told the bar would, be open and it wasn't. Not a big deal but just felt as though I didn't get what I paid for. The location was good.

We had a good stay, but unfortunately many amenities were not available. The gym,pool and hot tub were closed, and there was no breakfast being served.

Nice hotel in downtown Portsmouth NH. Friendly staff. Easy access to Market Street, the tourist area for food and shopping. Not too far from harbor if interested. Offers breakfast for 15.50ea which is an upscale continental breakfast only. OK but nothing fancy.

The location was the best part of this property. The room was average, and the amenities were limited during our stay. There was no breakfast service and the bar was closed every time we walked by. Overall, overpriced for what we got.

This was a very disappointing stay for me, especially considering the price. Two of my three pillows had stains on the pillowcases, also the bottom of my shower curtain had large black areas. The room in general was as basic as they come with very basic coffee items and simple tiny toiletries. Three towels were provided for two of us staying three days. The bar was closed for the two nights I stayed, as was the hot tub. Because of course they were. The breakfast was an additional $15.50 for an extremely basic buffet- I opted out once I saw the offerings. Also the tv was an old style with a simple remote so no connecting music to it or trying to stream any service from it. Not a big deal but just surprising considering the hotel and disappointing because I do like to connect to the tv usually. The tissue container was empty with no tissue box so I was using the tp the first day. After explaining to the front desk that my room didn’t have any and if I could please take a box back to my room, the man at the desk reached down for his tissue box and handed it to me. Okay then. The worst part for me was that they locked the temperature in the room. I immediately asked the front desk if there was any way to adjust it but they told me no that it would not go below 68. It was quite a warm few days and I like to stay cool and sleep even cooler so that was upsetting. After requesting a fan, they brought one to my room from the bar that helped a bit but not much. Perfectly situated in downtown area. Everything was in walking distance which I love. Only bug bear was the $40 valet parking which I feel should be a lot less. Would also be nice to have proper family rooms with twin or bunk beds for kids as we were four in a room. Breakfast was terrible and very limited with mainly unhealthy options. There were oranges and apples which was the only healthy choice. They said that the restaurant was closed so wasn’t typical. Otherwise a great hotel.

Stayed on Thanksgiving night. The bar/restaurant server was great and we were grateful she was working.

Great location with easy walk to restaurants and shops. Very nice public areas and room was in great shape. Very dog friendly and staff was helpful and nice. Only valet parking, otherwise you park on street. Restaurant and bar only open some days. Inconsistent housekeeping, and only some days. In room cleaning wasn’t good.
