The hotel has 2 entrances: 1st) entrances Westgate leads to a lift and is step free entrance 2nd) St Marys Street has stairs whether you walk or get the lift. Reception is on the second floor I was informed on check the hotel can only keep bags till 5pm and you have two pay after 2pm with money going to a local charity. Due to having gold status I got breakfast for free but it was very poor and most of it was cold, bacon looked raw.

Booked a twin room at this hotel to stay overnight with a friend to go to a concert in Cardiff Castle. It's a fabulous location in the city centre. Discount on Parking at the NCP was a bonus. Check in was easy, the room was clean and the beds were comfy. Would stay again 😊

Great central location. have to walk down steps to take the elevator to the 2nd floor or 3 flights of stairs. separate elevator for rooms. if early they charge 4 pounds per bag to hold. nice sized rooms.

Hotel is lovely staff are great but every thing is extra lot of stairs up to hotel you can use lift location great but there are a lot of homeless hanging about outside even thou the hotel is very safe it does make you feel a bit uncomfortable breakfast was amazing lots of choice

Hotel stunning got to climb 4 flights of stairs to get to reception lift is available only issue I had because I booked through hotel.com they charge you 20:00 per hour for late check out also there is a charge to leave your baggage if you want to walk around Cardiff after check out which I never pay for in all hotels I stay with hotel.com but hotel stunning staff fab great location

I like this hotel overall, but they have some things to work on. You can't see it from the road - if you don't already know it's there and where to find it, you never will. They have no drop off area for luggage - it's quite dangerous to try in the middle of the street, and parking is quite far. The staff is wonderful. The rooms are gorgeous and quiet, but there is a LOT of mold in the shower grout and caulking. It's really disgusting. And there is absolutely nowhere to hang a hand towel. The breakfast is grossly overpriced - for 14 I expect to order off a menu and be served. In fact in the town it's cheaper to do just that, but here it's average buffet. It's a great hotel, but needs some tweaking.

Lift not working, due to the fact broke down and had to walk 6 flights of stairs to reception 2nd floor, then parking at NCP which we had to walk approximately 300 yard, then room was small for two person, had no place other than cupboard to boil water, which was a wardrobe!!!!

The room was very spacious and comfortable. It was very clean but a bit dusty. The paint on the bathroom ceiling was a bit crumbly, probably because of the humidity (not the hotel's fault). The location is ideal, right in the city centre and walking distance from the train station, though it was a bit noisy on a Friday night. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

First time staying at The Royal; as much the room was nice and inviting, there were an accumulation of minor things that bugged me a little. When I had a shower, I realised there was no mat and the actual shower door spread water across the bathroom, which wasn’t ideal; when I started cleaning up the floor after getting out of the shower and retrieving my phone from the bedside table, I realised that the floors weren’t the cleanest.

What a lovely hotel! As soon as we arrived we were greeted with a smile and welcome. We had room 701 which was a fabulous room, spacious and clean. Loads of hot water, ideal for a bath. Even though it is in the centre of town we were not bothered by noise at all. The breakfast was great and catered well for GF. We have stayed at a few hotels in the past when visiting Cardiff but this will definitely be our choice in the future.

Very friendly staff and like the idea of natural products and supporting a local bee farm however the bedding and floor didn’t feel clean, the room was slightly outdated with a very small window they made us feel enclosed. There was a lot of noise from the clubs in the area. Breakfast wasn’t the quality expected for the hot food. Reflecting on the price this wasn’t worth it for us.

Room 322. It was dreadful. The room smelled of stale cigarette smoke. And all of our clothes still smelled of smoke even after we have left the hotel. The bed should have been replaced, it was sooo uncomfortable, and the springs clunked on the right hand side every time you slightly moved. The water only trickled out of the tap, it took forever to fill a small basin, and the wooden floor was so sticky that we kept our socks on so that we didn’t have to walk barefoot on it! We booked this hotel in plenty of time on 31/10 for a Principality Stadium concert visit, the only positive thing I can say, is that it was a very convenient location. The breakfast was adequate, although there were no fried eggs on display for some time, just an empty pan, and we couldn’t wait. We should have taken a table for 3 or 4 people as nobody cleared our plates and we had very little space on the table. I am sorry to be so negative, but quite honestly, we would have preferred to have slept in the car! Maybe our comments will prevent someone else from having to sleep in such conditions…

Although check-in wasn't until 15.00, we arrived around 10.30 and were able to deposit our bag early, for a fee of £4, which went directly to a local children's charity, so no qualms at all. From the moment we arrived until our departure next morning, the service was excellent, friendly as well as efficient, and didn't seem at all forced. Our room had a quite large entrance area with wardrobe and tea/coffee making facilites, leading up to the sleeping area, which although not huge, was perfectly adequate. The room, including the bathroom was spotless, the room was a very comfortable temperature, and we were fortunate enough to be on the quieter side of the building, so had a very quiet night. Breakfast was perfectly adequate and the hotel is centrally located so ideal for our trips to the Christmas markets.

Lovely hotel, can't believe I haven't stayed her before when in Cadiff. Room was well kitted out (I "worked from home" while staying) and spacious. Bed was one of the comfiest hotel beds I have slept in. Staff were lovely and the breakfast world class. Location right in the middle of town is very convenient, esp when walking back after a few beers next door, but also very quiet with almost no street noise to be heard in the room. I have found my go-to hotel for my Cardiff stays now!

We stayed for two nights and it was okay. The beds were hard and the pillows equally hard. Sore neck in the morning. Being in the centre of it all in Cardiff was the plus. Access to the hotel was a royal pain. In through the back to the lift or a large set of stairs from the front. A bit of a maze.

Nice room thanks to an upgrade. Curtains let a lot of light through and not very well sound proofed. Bedding was lovely. Nice big TV. Bath was very slippy resulting in a fall. Towels are very small. Staff friendly and breakfast was ok (but wouldn’t have paid £14 for it). Very good location

I booked the 'sad single' (OK, twin) room and got the usual. It seems to be a feeling amongst hotel owners that, if you're travelling alone, you'd really like a view of the air conditioning. My room had a minute window with a view of nothing. Otherwise, generally clean and comfy, and the staff were friendly and helpful. But the room wasn't a selling point.

A/c didnt seem to work and fan was in room on when we arrived. Room very hot and couldnt open windows so the fan seemed ineffective. A/c was on but coukdnt go below 19°too hot for a comfortable nights sleep

They don’t acknowledge the VIP access which is noted here on Hotels if you’re a silver member or above so we did not get the free breakfast stated in here despite being able to show silver status. We had a room with double windows where you couldn’t open the second window so the room got very humid after showering. Otherwise very standard room - I wouldn’t choose it for more than one night.

Late arrival for me, key card did not work, all the back downstairs to have it corrected. Set wake up call at the desk for 05:30….never happened. When I went to the front desk he told me he did not know how to do it, he said he has to wait until someone else comes in 07:00…REALLY!!! How many people didn’t get a wake up call that morning? CALL SOMEONE.

Booked the royal for a one night stay and couldn’t have had a better experience. Staff were friendly and helpful. They went above and beyond to make it a wonderful stay. The room was spacious and beautifully clean. I had a great nights sleep and will definitely book again.

Hotel is lovely, bed was comfy! Bathroom nice and clean, male reception staff were awkward and unhelpful, our air conditioning wasnt working, said he would swap rooms in half an hour but i explained that i had to leave in 15mins, said to wait 15mins then talk again about changing rooms. Ok... Asked if we could have ice sent up as well was roasting in there, no we had to get it ourselves. Got moved to new room, no help with bags to new room even though we had to rush around due to fault with the hotel room air con, rushed to take our bags, hit with a nice cool room straight away, thank goodness. Next day i knocked my foot on table corner in the room, wasn't too bad but later on while having coffee downstairs my sandal was rubbing the small wound, asked for a plaster as it was sore, youd swear i asked him to move a mountain, "why? Are you cut? I dont think i have sorry" didnt acknowledged me any further picked up phone.... i couldn't tell if he was just getting on with his job or actually calling to get some because of the bluntness, he ended up asked someone from kitchen to bring one. No communication though, was just odd, it was awkward, i had to promt him "sorry, excuse me?" helpfulness and actual hospitality was awful. I am management at a hotel myself and would never be so blunt as to say no to customer's when it comes to helping, especially when its the hotels fault that youre uncomfortable. Could be more friendly and communicative that would have improved the whole tone.

We stayed on a Saturday night with a room that overlooked the high street. The bars were open with really loud music and front doors open until 2am and there was a karaoke busker with a speaker in the high street right outside with crowds singing and the speaker on max until 3am. We are not old and love a night out but the hotel could have warned people that they basically couldn't get any sleep at the weekend in we had a room that overlooked the high street. We definitely not stay again.

This location is the best place to stay if you’re looking to stay in the heart of historic Cardiff with close proximity to Cardiff Castle — you really can’t beat this location and it is a short walk from Cardiff Central that was manageable even with our two large suitcases. The room was super clean and the spacious considering typical hotel rooms are very compact. We had a king size bed with a room that faced St. Mary’s Street. Please be aware that if you enter from St Mary’s Street you’re actually entering on Floor 1 and reception is on Floor 2. You’ll need to take the stairs to the ground level to the lift that will then take you to the second floor. There is another lift from the second floor that takes you to the rooms. We didn’t try to English breakfast. There is a bar and lounge area on the second floor which were never busy. We would stay here again.

The breakfast was a little dissapointing. There was a good selection but the hot section was only luke warm and the bacon a little dried out. We were not late to breakfast either. For the cost of our rooms I would have expected a little more.
