Playa Azul Cozumel

It’s a nice property but outdated & no hot tub. The staff is amazing and access to beach and beach bar is great! Nice big clean pool. Beautiful views. Breakfast was just okay. Bed was just okay.

Great property. Service and staff were wonderful. Breakfast took care of business. Access to chairs and water were uniquely good. If you like quiet this is the place.

Very quiet and calm resort. Loved the dive shop and all the snorkeling right from the resort’s beach. Staff were very kind.

The palapa bar and restaurant were great. Perfect for our group (2 couples.) Bartenders were fantastic! It would have been nice to have been able to at least sit around the pool, but it was closed due to some repairs/renovations. The front desk did offer to use the pool at the adjoining property but it did not look very inviting! We would highly recommend visiting the Lobster House directly across the street for dinner! Excellent food and wonderful musician!

Comfy bed and nice ocean view from 4th floor balcony. Snorkeling was decent from shore (saw fish!). I would have been happier if pool was heated and there was a little more water pressure in shower. Overall nice place good people and nice to be away from cruise ships (good safe area)

The hotel was lovely, the staff very friendly and efficient. The food in the restaurant was great, we ate there most evenings, and the servers were very attentive. The breakfast buffet was wonderful! But please be warned, the older side of the hotel doesn\'t have an elevator. If you are in your "golden years", the stairs to the 3rd floor can be quite a feat! We would definitely stay there again while in Cozumel, just on the newer side.

Very nice resort, right on the beach. Snorkeling right out front, beautiful water with lots of fish. Breakfast was good, great air conditioning in the room. Island felt safe at all times. Couple of good restaurants right across the street. Staff was friendly and nice. Would defiantly return next year, wouldn't even look at other resorts, this one was perfect for the wife and I.

Stayed one night with my husband. There are many improvements that could be made - people smoking on the beach, not enough beach chairs on the beach, music at the beach bar was loud American country all day and not pleasant to listen to. This is Mexico after all. A man went to breakfast without wearing a t-shirt which was very rude. That shouldn't be allowed and they should have not allowed him in. The pool was very dirty and cloudy as people were washing their sandy feet in it. Very sad. It's a nice place with an excellent location and could be better if they took the time to improve a few things.

The property Here is an accurate review as it seems that the 10/10’s are false or paid for. The property is old. The room musty. The plumbing was slow and backed up and needed to be fixed twice which put us down in the lobby bathroom. The Staff Front desk It started off wrong when we arrived at 250 for a 3 oclock check in and were told the room wasnt ready. 20 min he said. 30 min later it was 20 more min. Till it got to be 430 and then 15 m more till we got to our room at 445. It had been a long day of travel. Cleaning gal was the best part of the staff as she was extremely nice and attentive, however room service dishes sat in front of rooms and on tables the entire day and seemed to be apart of the decorations. The rest of the staff hates its guests. It seems a smile is an abstract concept especially the restaurant personal. The breakfast crew talks to each other as if they cant be bothered and looks offended if you ask for coffee. The dinner crew talks to each other while your food sits on a tray and gets cold and then brings you the extremely overpriced plate to you and then ignores you as they walk away without giving you utensils. Do not order a pizza as it is frozen and soggy. Don't order dessert as it is old and the ice cream looked as if it had been the scrapings from the edge of the container. In general the place is on its way to decline and has no pride. Like their staff. The ocean was convenient and the dive shop professional.

Room had quite a few bugs - mosquitoes, roach, spider. A few stains on the bedding. The shower head had green film on it. Otherwise it was great! Hotel staff friendly, very quiet, and beautiful.

We liked the smaller size hotel and not being in a high rise and our room was huge. The fresh flowers and blanket art were so fun to see every day and we all loved coming back to it. We walked to town once and it was 2.5 miles and felt completely safe and it was a nice walk. I would have walked it more often, but my teenagers preferred taxis which are everywhere and ready when you are for $10 each way. We hit up the happy hour each night and had food a few times and everything was great. Breakfast was nice that it was included and we could start our day full and not think about food for a while. Snorkeling at the beach was very good and we were able to see a lot of what we saw on a snorkeling excursion right on site.

Saying the property is 'dated' is being kind. While everything was basically OK, The need for updating is evident everywhere: peeling paint, cracked tiles, tired vegetation on the patio, discolored towels, 'funky' in-room safe, etc. The staff is nice enough, and the property is well located. However a fair deal it is, you get what you pay for. It does not compare well to other properties.

The employees are working double there isn’t enough staff for cleaning and not enough towels to the next day. No time to wash and dry so not enough towels also beach towels are worn out otherwise on a positive note there isn’t any sea weeds and the room was big in Junior suit and the staff were friendly. The restaurant was good reasonable price and good exchange rate considering the peso to dollar

We liked this hotel a lot. The only thing we didn't like was the noisy air conditioner. We couldn't keep it on at night, so we used the high fan which worked. Their breakfast was excellent. The people here are so nice. It's a comfortable hotel not too noisy, not too many people. The beds are extremely comfortable to sleep in, but they need to clean the carpet beside the bed. It was very dirty. The room was very clean, but you can see the hotel needs a bit of renovating. But all in all we really liked it and will be back.

This is an older hotel, but it had everything we needed. The included breakfast is amazing with lots of variety. The property is right on the beach with beautiful views. The toiletries smelled really good. The staff was very friendly. They also gave us a welcome drink upon arrival. You can book snorkel and dive trips on site. The only negatives were that the hotel is a little dated and the water pressure in the shower is low. If you stay here, note that the water in the shower takes a while to get hot. Overall, we had a great time and would stay here again. The price is right for what you get.

Overall, great location and experience. The room was spacious and had the view and had hoped for. The hotel only thing I wish it had some hanging art. The walls looked sad

Our family of 4 had a first floor room with two full sized beds for 8 nights. The beds and pillows were comfortable and the air conditioning worked perfectly. I requested a crib via email and was told they didn't have any. Then, my husband called a few days before and was told they did have a crib. This was confusing communication and we weren't sure whether to take our pack 'n play or not. Thankfully, they did provide a pack 'n play because we hadn't traveled with ours. The hotel provided two bottles of water every time they cleaned our room, which was enough to get by with in the mornings. It was extremely humid, so we were always thirsty! The buffet breakfast was a 6 out of 10. The made-to-order eggs were the best option. Everything else was stale or very greasy. The employees were not always proactive about refilling the items such as cheese, avocado, fruit, or our coffee and milk, which wasn't self-serve. The fruit was surprisingly not ripe or very sweet. I thought it would be since it's a tropical area. The pool was warm and was generally clean. The bar drinks are about $10 USD each and were nothing too special. You get a plastic cup if you want to drink anywhere in the pool area. The beach is small and rocky with a lot of ants in one area. The beach often had pieces of trash on it, which attracted the ants. But the ocean water was perfect. Overall, it was a fine stay and almost all employees were kind, but I wouldn't go out of my way to stay again.

We had a lovely time! Every one was so nice! We loved the location, the pool, the beach. Our room was very large and had a deck. Gorgeous!! We would go back. This resort is not super modern and we liked that. On a good note, wifi was excellent :)

Everything was great. Only challenge was that the “queen beds” were actually full size, not queen and they were very firm. If that works for you then everything will be perfect!

Clean, cute and for the most part a friendly staff. We received a walk-out unit as an Expedia VIP member which was convenient and scenic. Now the downsides, really poor internet throughout hotel, TV pretty much non functioning due to constantly disrupted internet signals. The Air Conditioning was really noisy and we couldn’t control the temperature as the thermostat was broken and stuck on high. We went to the lobby to explain the aircon issue and they sent the maintenance guy who said yes it was a problem unit and the only way to turn it off was by turning off the circuit breaker when then left us with no cooling. The shower pressure was really low and the patio had cheap white plastic chairs and table. The Pool was much colder than the Ocean water. The Staff, however, always seemed friendly at the inside bar, front desk and the restaurant, but not friendly at the outside bar. Overall an average stay but this hotel has some work to do to. Oh, and in the future please respond to messages sent through Expedia…

Wonderful staff! Front desk, housekeeping, wait staff, and bartenders are all unfailingly cheerful and very good at their positions. The entire property was cleaned and maintained all day, every day. The views from the rooms look out over the water toward Playa del Carmen, and the sunsets from the beach bar were fantastic.

I stayed for a week with my daughter. The people were very polite, the room was clean/comfortable and spacious with great service. The breakfast was very delicious with a variety of different dishes. Overall it was a great experience and I’d do it all over again.

Everything about this place stands out. We are returning guests and they always treat us like family. Check in and out is a breeze rooms are fantastic. You cannot go wrong regardless of the one that you get. Tiki bar outback is probably our favorite!

I rarely review. This property was nothing short of spectacular. Intimate, quiet. My love, had a birthday during our time at the resort. Unbelievable treatment from the entire staff. The staff at this resort are the stars. Every one of them, and a special thank you to Lupita. The food, wonderful! Special dinner on the beach, spectacular. We will return, very soon.

We stay at Playa Azul a few times a year. The location is great for us as it is a bit North of all the hustle and bustle. If you don' have your own transportation, you'll be using a taxi regularly. Located right on the water so it is a very peaceful location. Breakfast is included but it could really use some revamp as they serve the same thing daily and they've taken away the fresh waffle maker so we don't tend to eat there often. Lunch/dinner is bar food level but convenient if you don't want to leave the hotel.

A garden style hotel. Wonderful ocean view with balcony, spacious and clean suite, delicious and fresh breakfast, and great service. Perfect for snorkeling, beautiful beach for leisure. We will definitely come back next time for family vacation. 10 USD for taxi to travel to downtown area.

Very nice hotel for a low-key vacation. My family has been coming for years. Rooms are minimal but beautiful within their surroundings. The main draw for my family is the friendly staff, an exceptional breakfast, snorkeling directly from and hanging out on the private beach, then taking a taxi each night to town for dinner (which is super easy). With direct flights into Cozumel this all adds up to the kind of low-hassle vacation I love. BTW there are plenty of side activities/tours available for a fee if a faster pace if desired.

Small quiet boutique hotel, safe and away from all the cruise ship hustle and bustle. It’s a $10 taxi ride to any of the great restaurants in town.

Great location, close enough to town but far enough away for peace a quiet. Beautiful spot on the ocean and to go in and swim. The included breakfast everyday was great. Outdoor bar right by the ocean was a nice touch. Hotel is older but maintained very well. Will definitely be staying there when I go back to Cozumel.

Beautiful pool area and right on the beach and a great snorkeling spot. We rented a scooter for the week and it was perfect for transportation into town (which is just a couple miles away) for excursions, shopping, food, etc. The restaurants right across the street are excellent. The rooms were clean and they give you bottled water everyday. They also provided beach towels. My husband and I stayed one week here and we won’t hesitate to be back.

Hotel was clean and quiet. It was priced well. The pool seemed heated which was nice. There was good snorkleing right off the beach of this hotel so no need to take a snorkeling tour unless you just want to see something different. The staff was friendly and helpful. The tiki bar had drink specials every day from 5 to 7pm.(2 for1) each day.It was a different drink special daily. The breakfast was decent with several options, however lunch and dinner were over priced and did not meet expectations for the money. We did find local resturants that would deliver to the hotel which opened up our dining options. These options were very reasonable as the wife and I ate for around 25 dollars per meal. We ate at local taquerias. Fyi the food at this resort is not local culture it is more island/american cruisine. It would be nice if it was more local inspired. I have a couple of recommendations to improve the resort. Hotel needs a business center for quest to use. I needed to print some documents, and could not do it without emailing it to the hotel staff. This was not an option due to confidentiality. The hotel should also install a hot tub for guest as there isnt a public hot tub available. The furniture could also use updating as it is old and outdated. The mattress however it was newer and really comfortable. The last thing you should know is that this property is toward the end of the hotel strip. To get to the commercial section of Cozumel you will need to take a cab. $10 ea way

Love Playa Azul. Great staff, food, drinks and rooms. Only suggestion is avoid the steak. Very disappointing but shrimp dishes were excellent.

older hotel so could use an update. location was good and it had some Mexican charm. Towels were worn and threadbare. We lost one of the towels and we were charged $65 for it! Food was average and the bar drinks were not great. Desk personnel were fairly friendly but didn't go out of their way to be helpful. Same was true for the restaurant staff

The staff is excellent. The restaurant is good. Breakfast is delicious and lunch/dinner is fine with many options. I feel the bar service is great but drinks are mediocre and overpriced. Not sure it should be as expensive as the Westin next door.

I do not regret booking my stay at this hotel! It was beautiful, the staff was amazing, very polite and caring , they really know how to take care of their guests. Breakfast was so delicious and they had so many options! Their private beach access was perfect! As well and the bar outside, especially the staff member out there named Darwin, he was a very kind and respectful man.This place is definitely a 10/10 recommendation!
