Hotel 39 Jamaica

It wasn’t what we thought. Didn’t realize the place was under renovations, they were out of a lot of drinks and food options. One morning the server was terrible so we left to eat at the diner next door. Rooms were nice and comfortable. Pool was up many stairs and no bathroom or drink servixe up there.

Parking was great, walking distance to stores, the beach and other activities. Really enjoyed this hotel and area

I like the hotel a lot for its location, cleanliness, and front desk staff was accommodating. Some of their challenges are, restaurant provides a complimentary breakfast but I fine the service to be very poor. You seat yourself, the waitress took over 10 mins to get to my table. Only after I asked when will someone wait on my table that is when she attended to me. After placing the order and waiting another 15 mins I told the waitress I am leaving to purchase my own breakfast at the restaurant nextdoor. She expedited my order which did not make me feel good as two other tables who I met there did not get their meal but because I said something I got my food pushed to the front of the line. Additionally, there is a pool, not greatly advertised. I would recommend the ocean across the street to bathe in than the pool. No elevator to the pool and there are two ways to get there, via a very steep hill or stairs. The pool was not well constructed. It is unusually sloped without stairs or rails to hold on to when entering. Can be dangerous for small children as they can easily slip into the deep based on the slope. And the floor was a bit slippery, I mention to the front desk folks that the may want to put down some sort of anti-slip coating to the pool floor. You must try the pork pit for the best jerk chicken in town. The also do jerk pork and baby back ribs. It about 6 mins walking distance from the hotel. Enjoy!

The hotel was comfortable after my bed was fixed. The breakfast service was slow. I would have preferred a buffet service. There was no nightly managers reception as noted. The common areas like lobby, hallways and elevator are not air-conditioned. The Front desk staff were very helpful especially Onesha. My one major disappointment was the pool was difficult to reach for my accessible daughter.

I was pleasantly suprised. Great location on the Hipstrip. Next door to Pelican restaurant. Easy check in, friendly staff. Spacious room. Pool needs some renovations and lots of stairs to access the pool area. Good breakfast options and included, although the portions were modests. Definitely recommend for a reasonably priced 3 star hotel.

If you’re looking for a quiet place to stay, this is not it. the ocean view room is right by the road where you can hear cars playing loud music, honking, loud motorcycles, and everything else. the room is definitely not sound proof. there’s also a park that sometimes holds events. you might want to look into what’s going on in the park because they were playing extremely loud music until almost 4am one day during our stay. their rooftop pool was located in a separate building and has a very limited view (you see more of the other building than the ocean view) and was pretty dirty. the king size bed we had only had two flimsy little pillows and 5 decorative pillows you wouldn’t want to sleep on/with. they also only give you a thin sheet like you’re an inmate in some lush prison. there’s a bunch of different switches that aren’t labeled so you’ll have to switch them all and find out for yourself what they turn on/off. we stayed here for 10 days and their elevator was broken since day one. we had to walk up/down 3 flights of steps every time we left the room. there’s also no ice available on each floor. the front desk was not accommodating at all and made us walk the 3 flights down to the bar to get ice and 3 flights back up. i have a preexisting knee injury and this was less than unacceptable.

Internet was choppy…bar was not open much…very inconsistent…AC was terrible.

EVERYTHING WAS GREAT, THE STAFF, THE LOCATION. HOWEVER THE AREA OF THE POOL WAS AN INCONVENIENCE IT WAS LOCATED ON TOP OF THE BUILDING BEHIND HOTEL AND U HAD TO WALK UP ALOT OF STAIRS TO GET TO IT. PEOPLE WITH BAD KNEES OR HEART WOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO CLIMB THOSE STEEP STAIRS. ALSO THE BREAKFAST THEY OFFERED LACKED BREAKFAST. MOST DAYS THEY OFFERED LEFT OVER FOOD(NOT BREAKFAST FOOD) FROM IM ASSUMING THE NIGHT BEFORE? AND NO REGULAR SUGAR FOR COFFEE JUST BROWN SUGAR OR EQUAL.

The staff was EXCELLENT. They went above and beyond. Great location, walking distance to a lot! The downside is that the bar onsite was only opened one day I was there.

Nice for the price. Perfect location. However pool was not well kept. Not being filtered and cleaned. Breakfast was great and staff was very friendly.

We stayed at this property Jany 28-Feb 3. While their breakfast is good and our server Roxan was excellent the cleanliness of our room was substandard. The bedroom floor seem not to be swept or mopped. The bathroom floor, shower glass, toilet, sink & fixtures were not cleaned properly by housekeeping. They seemed to be short staffed. I would not be returning for this one reason that is I do not compromise on cleanliness.

Clean and newly renovated

The bathroom was not cleaned well. The floor was dirty. There were two shower heads: one had black stuff coming out of it and the top water fall showerhead was broken. The staff tried their best to make up for it. The shower head was fixed right away. We were only given 2 towels for 4 people. i called 4 times and got them after 3 hours. The Alexander restaurant was very tasty! We had the free breakfast for 3 days and then ordered dinner on 5/23. The food was worth the wait! Georgette and Samantha were wonderful. Location on the Hip Strip was great! Easy walking to many places including Doctors Cave.

There were only 2 positive things about Hotel 39, staff and location. Staff were great, all the front desk staff including Gavin, Ashley, Navada and the servers at the dining room. The front desk and house keepers staff kept apologizing for shortage of towels and linens. We had a total of 10 rooms. Issues- Room 207 was constantly leaking, water on the bathroom floor, in and outside of the front door. They had issue with the power outlet not working and had to charge their electronics in my room. Room 104, air conditioner work on and off. Room 203 and 204, there were days when the room weren’t cleaned . On 2/23/25, I had to go to the front desk upon returning to the hotel at 11pm and asked for linens, towel and broom. I was told that there wasn’t any available now as they were doing laundry. Navada at the front desk cleaned the room in the middle of the night and did a great job. Room 203 was not cleaned after the housekeeper told them that their room was next. None of the refrigerators worked and people had the food spoiled and had to tossed. Blow dryer in room 204 did not work and there was no replacement. Room 305 didn’t have electric kettle until day 4. I do understand that the hotel was fully booked but basic service not provided, toiletries were limited and the overall service was extremely poor. I normally stayed at an all inclusive but a member requested that we stay at this hotel as she stayed there before and it was ok, now she regret referring this place.

Stayed two nights without any house keeping been done

THIS REVIEW IS BY NO MEANS A REFLECTION OF THE FRONT DESK STAFF! They were welcoming, kind, attentive, informative, responsive, and professional. With that being said, the building itself is not fully ready to hosts guests. The lobby and bar area is picturesque, but the bar/restaurant isn’t open and neither is the spa. ALL amenities were advertised and some, especially the spa, was the reason I chose this hotel over another. The second I paid my non-refundable booking fee, those same amenities were crossed out and unavailable. HOW CONVENIENT! I thought the room was decent at first. I could tell there were a few unfinished touches, but that didn’t bother me. I care about cleanliness over all else because that’s the only way I can relax. There were ants crawling in my bed when I got home from a bar. How am I supposed to relax when I have to remove bugs from my bed??? I had considered extending my stay, but after the ants I said hell to the no. This hotel has so much potential because it’s decor is modern and comparable to what I’m used to seeing in Marriott brands, but customers don’t book for potential. Stop charging people full price when it isn’t up to code! If eye-catching amenities aren’t available, discount the damn hotel until they are. $187 after taxes and I have to kill bugs in my bed? Hire an exterminator, do a fog bomb, etc. because there’s no excuse for guests to deal with bugs IN THE BED. DO BETTER. Pictures below. I honestly deserve a refund.

In general it is noticeable that the hotel has been remodeled. I had a good stay, however every day I stayed there they had problems with the water heater and I never had hot water. The rooms are comfortable and were cleaned every day, but the floors were always dirty, I ended up with my socks and feet black from how dirty the floors were.

Didn’t enjoy stay had bug under sheets crawling

Bugs in the room. Hard to get towels. Same breakfast everyday. 1 hour wait for the breakfast. Have to beg for room to be cleaned. Check in will be long, rooms were not ready, given a loaner room, which was different then what was paid for. Thin walls. You can hear everything.

I liked the location. Room A/C was poor.

Nice property, centrally located, lots of shops in the area, easy walk to the beaxh. My only dislike was the design of the bathroom, when you shower, the entire bathroom gets wet, than can be improved.

Nice, convenient property on the main downtown tourist strip, close to night life and restaurants. Several beaches and parks nearby. Don't go to breakfast hungry. It is a-la-cart and it will take you a very, very, very long time for the server to take your order and even more very, very, very long time to get your meal. Suggest skipping the free/included breakfast if you don't want to wait forever to be served. Even the "special Jamaican breakfast" that should be quick and easy, took forever to be served. Seems the kitchen doesn't care how long the food takes to get out to the guests. Get a nice quick breakfast next door at The Pelican restaurant instead! The bathrooms could use a re-design, as there is no shower curtain or enclosed shower space, so the floor is likely to be flooded after a shower. Otherwise, a very lovely hotel and fully recommended for anyone visiting Montego Bay and looking for a quiet city hotel.

Nice place, nice location Internet very slow And breakfast serves extremely slow U have to set at least 45 minutes to get your food. Its not buffet, but U Can order between 3 different plantes. U cannot order a plate of fruit or anything Else.

The staff was friendly but the food options were a bit limited. The bed comfort was okay, not entirely comfortable but enough to not complain. The TV worked one night but I couldn’t get any channels for the remaining days I was there.

Very nice area right on the hip strip. Amazing ocean view! Comfortable bed but you only get a sheet to cover so if the air conditioner gets chilly you will be cold. You get two little bottles of water.

Overall, we had a nice stay here! Staff members were very friendly and helpful! The only issue we had was we couldn’t fall asleep on the first night due to the bed being a little too hard and how busy the road was with motorcyclists and cars going back and forth. Not the hotel’s fault re the traffic but just a heads up for anyone planning to stay in here when they go to Mobay Jamaica. I would stay here again though because of the staff. Also, breakfast at this hotel is really good!

Located walking distance to the Doctor's Cave Beach and in close vicinity of the Montego Bay airport, very convenient and several nice restaurants in the area. For some reason one couldn't fully cover the window with the curtain on the far right and far left side. We had 2 rooms and the other one was perfect but ours had a slight sewage smell coming from the bathroom.

Everything was great, but if you stay on the beach side you can hear the cars passing by late into the night.

Breakfast was delicious! Staff was excellent. I booked because I read reviews complimenting the staff and they were spot on! I'll definitely return next year.

My room was not ready untill the following day towels were short the staff did the best they could with what they had i refer this hotel to my family and i regret it i would never stay at this property again

Extremely poor service throughout our stay. 1 hour 30 minutes late check in, after much grief we were given a $30 drink voucher. 5 day stay room cleaned only once, they did not change bedding at any time. Not recommended.

Check-in at Hotel 39 in Jamaica was smooth, but unfortunately, the front desk service during my stay was extremely disappointing. Whenever I needed assistance, the staff was either unavailable, unhelpful, or dismissive. Simple requests took far too long to be addressed, and I often felt like I was being ignored rather than accommodated. Hospitality is a key part of any hotel experience, and the lack of professionalism and attentiveness from the front desk made my stay frustrating. I would not recommend Hotel 39 based on this poor service alone. There are plenty of other accommodations in Jamaica that understand the value of hospitality and treating guests with respect. I expected better service, and unfortunately, Hotel 39 did not deliver. I would not stay here again unless significant improvements are made.

Had a great experience and staff were very friendly & very helpful!!!! Thank you Hotel 39 staff for everything!!! They took care of us and we very so my appreciation everything day shift staff & night shift!!!

I’ve stayed here 2 times now and both times were great. Geo, at the front desk went above and over for me today to get me checked in a little early!!

Breakfast service was therefore slow our room was not cleaned for 3 of the 7 days. Once staffing levels went back to normal, you could see the difference. Pool area cleaned, staff was less rushed, and everything was nice (again). I do think they need the cabinet guy, to redo the surfaces...just an aesthetic choice...

Hotel 39 was amazing! The receptionist day/night were top notch with their hospitality and love shown. You’re immersed in the city, close to everything thats happening. Excited and looking forward to coming back here.

Ideal hotel for access to the Doctors Cavebeach Margaritaville Starbucks etc. Careful crossing the street. Nice new well furnished with a nice small restaurant bar. Great value helpful staff hard to do any better especially for the price.

The hotel is located on the Hip Strip. To that end, it is quite noisy. This is not a complaint, just an observation.

Beautiful ocean view. It is a bit loud because its right in the hip strip. But that also makes it convenient to walk around.

Definitely not walkable to food and shopping even though it’s fairly close the area does not seem safe.

The property and staff were awesome. My only complaint was the restaurant took over 2 hours for shrimp quesadilla, because they make food for somewhere else and the in house customers have to wait.
