Old Mill Hotel & Lodge

Unique to have a waterwheel outside the breakfast room/Restaurant, generating power as of old. Short wal up the hill then >3m walk into Bath along the towpath. We cycled!

The hotel was in a good location, 40 min walk to Bath centre; perfect to park the car and keep fit. The room was nice , a good size and comfortable. Staff were reasonably friendly, although no restaurant open and getting a drink at the bar was a challenge. Staff shortage issues! When I called and asked about the restaurant, was told it was closed but blamed Hotels for still showing photos of it !?!? Fortunately there is a pub just across the toll bridge which served food.

The hotel is outside of Bath. Must drive, bus, or walk the canal (40 mins) to town. We chose the canal walk the first day (excellent), and bussed the rest of the time. Room was delightful and clean. Hosts, lovely. Parking is tight, and awkward. Lots of stairs. Not for people with mobility challenges.

It was a shame there was no dining in the restaurant on a Monday and Tuesday evenings. I can’t understand why there was never anyone using the bar area. We looked in a couple of times, but decided not to go in as we would have been the only ones there. It’s a shame as the actual place is quaint and in a beautiful setting by the river. Breakfast was excellent and the Staff were lovely, but it just lacks that something. The pub across the toll bridge was packed on the Monday and Tuesday evening doing food. I hope they find a solution as it’s a great place to stay.

I stayed in room 116 the shower was not working there was water coming from the tap but not in the shower, also the hotel charged extra £10 for parking which is not fair parking on site should be free for customers, and also the hotel hold extra £30 from my bank account for deposit I do not understand why they charged extra I have already paid to hotel.com, I am not happy about that I will not recommend anyone to stay there.

Had a good night's sleep. The parking is challenging. If the car park is full there is no obvious alternative

The triple room was a bit small but comfortable. Breakfast was good. he property though being old looked a bit tired. The view of the mill wheel and river was lovely. We paid $10 extra for parking but it was very awkward getting in and out of the parking spots.

Lovely hotel. Easy check in. Good sized room. For once, since some time, I found the bed in a hotel room, comfortable. Nice breakfast area with a lovely view. Breakfast was stabdard but good enough to start the day with. I would stay here again. Parking is charged at £10 per stay

Our bedroom was in the annex with a modern en suite shower, really comfortable double bed and wall mounted tv. The small wardrobe was just ok for 3 nights stay. We counted 25 cars parked. On site restaurant focuses on Italian with limited choice if you are long-stay. Good quality but we had to go elsewhere for fish and chips - no frier!

Hotel and accommodation was nice but when checking out was forced to pay a 10 pound parking charge by the reception. They dont tell you any of this when checking in.

The hotel was comfortable but not the cleanest there were bugs in the room, the towels smelt and there were mo toiletries. The kettle was old and had a lot of limescale build up. Staff were friendly and helpful. The views were stunning and spectacular. May not book again though based on the room

We loved the Old Mill hotel. Beautiful place, clean and comfortable room. Staff were lovely and breakfas more than adequate . A good way to start the day.

Staff were nice, the room was well organised and had everything I needed. Breakfast menu veriety was limited. I did not like the tight parking space + traffic on the bridge. The room and towel and sheets were clean. But the shower area specially the glass seemed haven't been cleaned for a long time. The shower water was changing cold and hot constantly. Didn't like it. Overall considering the price, excellent.

Beautiful territory and nice rooms, but very neglected. There is a strong upleasant smell in the room and when we complained we were offered cleaning and air freshener, but nothing else.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Put our bikes in their basement for safekeeping which was great. The property is a little tired and the rooms are very small. Was extremely hot and humid the night we stayed but there was a really good quiet fan in the room which was brilliant. Bed linen and towels felt crisp and clean. Bathroom was clean enough despite needing a really good descale. Noticed a few little easy fixes that could have been seen to that would made things seem nicer. The curtain in our room was coming off the hooks and looked like it could do with a good wash. We were charged for parking even though we didn’t have a car AND they helped us put our bikes in the basement. Hopefully that has been resolved now. Reasonable choice of cold breakfast items and bread to make toast. Perfectly adequate. On the whole no more and no less what you expect from a 3 star hotel.

Lovely room that was comfortable and had all the facilities we needed for an overnight stay. Location and ability to park was good for us. Th toilet seat was a bit wobbly and the shower didn’t drain well, but nothing that spoilt my stay.

Do not stay here! Hotel is knackered and run down. Not particularly welcoming welcome on arrival. Corridor noise was bad - voices heard clearly and plenty of doors slamming. Hotel room was dirty - mattress protector heavily stained, no pillow protectors so pillows stained, window frames mouldy and dirty, dust in the room, bathroom black mould everywhere, shower wet the whole bathroom floor, towel rail falling off the wall, someone’s else’s hair on the towels, rope of loo roll holder filthy. Didn’t look at the look brush bit I can imagine. We checked out one night early as we couldn’t face another night there.

The guy who was at reception on the day we arrived was nice and also the lady in the morning. But room is quite small for 3 person. The bed sheet was dirty if you see well.

Overall, the hotel is nice. Only downside is that there is no air conditioning in the room, and it depends on the room that you get, the Wi Fi is not working. I stayed in 2 different rooms - double room and single room as I had to extend my trip last minute and the only room left was the single room. Internet was not working in the double room, but working perfectly in the bar and in the single room. Overall good.

This place is a bargain, if you have conscientious guests staying in the rooms next to you. The doors are not 'soft-close' so the first night I was awoken a couple hours before my alarm by guests in a neighbouring room walking in and out, letting the door slam several times and chattering quite loudly to each other as they did so. Not only this but the room was very small with no aircon which made it stuffy, so my window was wide open to their chattering in the car park before they finally decided to leave. The following night was very comfortable and quite thankfully. The breakfast is pleasant but its not cooked, just cold cuts and cereal etc. There is a nice garden overlooking the river, bridge and surrounding views. Overall a nice stay but the hotel would benefit from A/C and soft closing doors. A hot breakfast would be nice as well, usually a benefit of staying in a hotel.

CRAMPED! I booked a superior double room. The room was so small we could hardly move. I assume room measurement on web includes bathroom. The small cupboard was stuffed with a safe and ironing board so only room for one hanger. Only one drawer (other occupied by their hair drier)The "river view" included a dingy car park. The toilet seat was stained yellow. The soap dispenser next to the sink did not work so we had to use the identical one in the shower. Access to room only via steep stairs.

Clean room nice setting, however annex looks like portacabins, though room was same as if in hotel. Not big but adequate. Breakfast was typical continental. Waitress was hard working and kept everything going. Had difficulty understanding the first receptionist and not sure what type of establishment requires a deposit on card after room had been paid in advance.

Had a lovely room. Small but nicely decorated and modern. Stayed for 2 nights whilst travelling around the area. Had 2 breakfasts and 1 evening meal. Food was also lovely. The downside was the extreme heat in the room which hit you as you opened the door. Was like walking into an oven. No air conditioning and the small fan provided simply blew the warm air around the room. Seriously considered walking down to bar area in the middle of the night to sleep on the sofa there. After watching tv in bed with low lights we switched on the main light around 11pm to get ready for bed. The room was swarming with millions and millions of mosquitoes. Fully covered the ceiling and was everywhere. In and on top of the bedsheets, on the towels, the furniture, in our luggage, etc. No spare rooms available to be moved to so we had to get a hoover and spent the next 45 minutes hoovering every crook and cranny to clear the room. Was told we should have closed our window as they would have been attracted by the light but the window was jammed open and would not close anyway. Was a shame really as everything else was fine. The problem was the extreme heat and mosquitoes and not the actual hotel facilities. Avoid room 118 if possible. Rooms at the front of the hotel may be better than at the back overlooking the river.

Hotel is in a picturesque location set on Tollbridge Road. The road is very narrow and the entrance to the hotel is just before the bridge crossing. But beware, the crossing is single lane, people stand on the bridge and collect £1 from cars as they cross. Due to the bridge being single lane only, there is a large traffic jam from about 8.45am for an hour or so. This has a major effect on London Road, the main road into Bath and will add, at least, an extra 15 minutes onto your trip if you wish to travel by bus. The bus stop is a short walk from the hotel on London Rd. If you are going into the city or train station, get off the bus at Bath bus station. Bus no. 3, X13. The hotel is ok. It costs £10 for parking and it's a first in gets the spot policy, though there are quite a few spots, especially down the back. It's one way in and out, which can be a problem if you wish to cross the bridge as it's a narrow turn. We had a Standard Twin in the main building. The rooms were stifling with no air-conditioning, so get some air in we had to keep the windows open. The room was okay, decent bathroom/shower. The hotel advertised a restaurant, but they had no chefs or staff for evening meals, which was disappointing, but breakfast was available and was good. There is the Bathamton Mill hotel just across the bridge and the George hotel a little further on. My suggestion is that if you want to be close to Bath city centre then don't book this hotel, driving to it is a nightmare.

When there is no time to read the drawbacks of a place to stay, you find unpleasant surprises like this, the owner takes the precaution of writing all the bad things about the property, to have an excuse and tell you that it is written, and rent something that looks like a chicken coop, the place at first glance is unpleasant, depressing, it has a bad appearance outside, the rooms have been reconditioned but they are extremely small, the roof has no insulation, and the room has received the sun all day, the heat is unbearable, you can't sleep and they think that with a fan they will solve the problem, if you have a little decency, you have to simply think that there are no places suitable for rent, even if you lower the price it is simply not suitable for rent, as I mentioned at the beginning the place is simply a chicken coop.

We loved the location of this hotel. Beautiful surroundings and not too far from the city centre. Parking is limited at times and the rooms don’t have air conditioning but we enjoyed our stay.

Extremely disappointed with the service from the moment we got there. Booked a Superior Room with River View and were told that there had been an error and we would have to be moved to a smaller room. Offered a meal as compensation. Moved to another room on day 2. This was a triple room with twin beds pushed together. unacceptable. Found that the plumbing did not work correctly. Toilets not flushing - backing up to the sink. Sink overflowed on the bathroom floor. Unable to bath or shower due to this. Moved to a third room, again not as requested. Given a bottle of prosecco for my "wife's birthday", later told this was compensation for the problems. Made a claim through Expedia who have been advised that as the hotel would not refund any of the money paid they could do nothing. Expedia & the Hotel managed to ruin my wife's birthday present - un-acceptable. recommendation do not use either.

Unethical, Rude, and Dishonest I had an extremely disappointing experience with this property. After accidentally leaving behind a valuable gold necklace, I was initially told it could be returned once I paid for the postage — which I was happy to do of the £7.90. Later, they demanded an unexpected £11 fee that was never mentioned p agreed upon, or shown in writing prior. Worse still, they admitted they would have attempted to take this additional payment from my account without permission — an unauthorised and unethical action that seriously breaches trust. The duty manager, Ellie, was incredibly rude and unprofessional throughout. She claimed I’d be sent a copy of the policy guidelines explaining the charge, but despite several requests, I never received it. I was also promised a callback to confirm details before anything would be posted, which never happened. When I stated I would pay but still wanted to see the policy, she abruptly disconnected the call. Holding onto someone’s personal property unless they pay an unagreed fee, refusing transparency, and handling the situation with such hostility is completely unacceptable. I felt scammed and disrespected. I strongly urge others to steer clear of this business. Their conduct is dishonest, their customer service is appalling, and their approach is both unethical and deeply unprofessional.

Cleanliness, staff are good, setup, overall, I loved it and would go there again and would recommend it any day any time

There were drunk guest partying until 3am outside our room . Hotel clearly was NO where to be found . We called several times and went to the office where we couldn’t locate anyone..

THE CREW: Everyone from maintenance, housekeeping, restaurant, reception and management had a bend over backwards and nothing's too much trouble attitude. I can't fault the service at all. ARRIVAL: Warmly welcomed and instantly upgraded from a budget room to a top of the range double at no extra charge. Good start. ROOM: Very comfy double bed and en-suite with a huge shower, the best and fattest pillows ever, smart TV and a balcony overlooking the river Avon and countryside beyond. I only got out of bed to eat, bliss. It was so nice I booked an extra two nights and didn't regret it. Seven nights in total. FOOD/RESTAURANT: Good quality ingredients well cooked. I had the Eggs Benedict four times for breakfast, perfectly poached eggs. I also recommend the Fish & Chips (huge tempura battered haddock!) and Spaghetti Carbonara. I ate there twice a day, every day, money well spent. I'd booked a Christmas Dinner for Christmas day. Plenty of roast beef with all of the trimmings. The only down side was no Yorkshire pud, horseradish, Christmas crackers or Christmas music, maybe next year? The new head chef is planning a new menu going back to a more traditional Italian selection. I'm sure I'll be popping in when it's up and running. He and his crew know what they're doing. NEGATIVES: The place needs a refurb throughout, that's all. POSITIVES: All of the above and a beautiful riverside location. Give it a go.

We have now stayed at the Old mill Hotel 4 times and we are very happy with the great service we get from the staff the lady in the mornings Agata is always pleased to great us we are both looking forward to our next stay at Christmas time we both recommend this Hotel for anyone looking to Stay in Bath 10/10 for all the friendly staff Thank you Mick & Ali xx

Sweet service, lovely location next to the river, very good accommodation all at a great rate. Tried the restaurant - amazing pizza :) Will be back. And yes - it does have a stunning working Mill Wheel!

We chose this place because it was close to the City of Bath - but not in the City, and its on the River. It's a beautiful spot, the Old Mill waterwheel still runs, it's super peaceful. There is a restaurant, the food and service were great - even though the Chef only started a week ago. Would definitely stay here again if we were in the area. Highly recommend the Old Mill Hotel in Bath.

The Old Mill Hotel is beautifully located next to a river. The restaurant has riverside dinning over looking the fields beyond. The staff were very welcoming and made our stay that much more comfortable. We had a standard double room which was nicely decorated, clean and had everything we needed. I would recommend a stay here for countryside-feel 10 minutes from Bath city centre.

Convenient location near to Bath. Short walk to a bus stop. Parking onsite but tight spaces and first come first served. Room was well appointed and clean. Staff were friendly. Decent continental breakfast overlooking the river and mill wheel. Would recommend for a 1 or 2 night stay.

Brilliant last minute break for one night, ideal for piece and quiet. The £1 toll both outside but not a problem , as it's a bit of history on the door step. Early morning open the balcony door with an air ballon on the skies. Breakfast with the old watermill outside.

The property provided us with one of the best country side views we have ever experienced with the UK. We loved the quietness of the Old Mill and the fact it was not central to Bath itself....although on our first evening we found the walk into Bath a little long as we were somewhat weary from travel and yet to get our heads around taxis and bus routes etc. We hope to go back to the Old Mill...

Great place for short stay, breakfast was very good, But no evening meals available.

An ok stay(in the main hotel) but hotel receptionist running the bar as well so unable to make cocktails due to lack of ingredients apparently. Pass me the ingredients from the shelf and I will do it myself! Ideal location for discovering Bath. Didn’t eat at the hotel, but was sat in the bar when a couple complained they had waited 1.5hours for there burger, preferred to eat at the Bathampton Mill just opposite

Beautiful room. Lovely and clean. Staff were friendly a check in was quick and easy. Parking was very handy. The breakfast was basic but considering what I paid for the room with breakfast included, the food was adequate. Nice range of teas and teapots!

Good room with lovely view. Evening meal disasterous, table booked for 7pm but food not served until 9pm and quality extremely poor.

Very comfortable stay and a reasonable price. Breakfast was very good. It was a cold breakfast with fresh toast but plenty of variety and nicely presented.
