Great value hotel with convenient parking. Music choice by check in receptionist was questionable but it was not there on check out. Would stay again

Property difficult to find and has no parking

The Hotel is right in Birmingham city centre. You go outside and straight on a major shopping street, just around the corner is the main railway station. The hotel rooms are enormous, websites list the room sizes as sqf, but they should probably mean in square meters instead, as the room I am staying in must be at least a 100 square metres, with ceiling heights well over twice my height. The lady on reception has been particularly friendly and helpful, she helped find the parking, came found me when I got lost going up the stairs to conference rooms, and gives me a friendly hello and smile when I go past. Little touches like this really help make hotels stand out, and you feel truly welcome as guest. So, yeah, cudos to the hotel's HR department and to the hotel manager for hiring great staff and training well. The only slightly negative thing I warn potential guests about, is that although the parking is really close by to the hotel which is great for a city centre, you should check it out beforehand and oreint yourself to the correct exit from the railway station to the hotel as the parking is above, and it's easy to get turned around and go out the wrong exit if you are unfamiliar.

The property is undergoing renovation and the room windows were blacked out with scaffolding. The first room was extremely noisy from the loud music from the clubs below. I was eventually given an alternative room, after being told none were available. Lamps weren’t working in the room and carpets are old and tired, giving the room a general feeling of uncleanliness. Bath towel was dirty so ended up using a hand towel. The breakfast and breakfast staff however were very good and attentive. I wouldn’t stay there again.

Great location, good stay, hotel is tired looking in the public areas though. Our loo did not flush well.

Centre of Birmingham hotel and the bar was closed when we got in around 11:30pm. Room service could not transact my card so i had to follow the attendant back down to the bar to transact the payment there. The decor is very tired. My room was dull and narrow - I just wanted to be out of it.

Good customer service and excellent facilities

Tremendously comfortable room with plenty of space and amenities. Very comfy and large bed, spare seating, and a large luxurious bathroom. Only downsides are that the corridors are very long and winding, and that there are some rooms that are not step-free.

The staff whilst professional were very welcoming and friendly. The bar was extremely welcoming with a warm ambience and nice atmosphere. Breakfast served traditionally as opposed to the normal in most hotels - buffet style. So convenient for train station, theatres and social venues. Highly recommend.

Due to the old architecture there are steps. For example once I got off the elevator with my luggage on the 2nd Floor I found I had to take my luggage up 13 steps to get to my room. Since the 2nd Floor and 3rd Floor are connected if the person checking me in had told me to go to the left out of the elevator I got reach my room with only six stair steps which were all down steps which are much easier to handle. I figured this out on my own after expending the effort of lifting my luggage up 13 steps. I am 75 years old but still able (with some effort) to lift heavy luggage however some of your guests might not be able to handle the task. So please have the staff think ahead about customer needs and the unusual arrangement of stair steps in the building.

A very comfy bed. A few big cobwebs around, but that didn't bother me. We would however liked to of have tea bags, sugar, milk etc available. All we had was coffee pods for the coffee machine, nothing else as an option. Cooked breakfast wasn't great, ran out of items, and a £5 surcharge for anything else cooked other than porridge or full English. Continental was nice! Staff were very friendly, and the building is beautiful. Location fantastic. Right opposite the grand central.

Room facing train station loud all night. Scaffolding covering all the windows. Very dusty. Couldnt turn down the heating. Not enough lighting for the room and no plug sockets near the bed. However very comfortable bed.

Generally unclean, most rooms in dire need of refurbishment, terrible views and air conditioning in the two rooms I tried was either noisy or unreliable. Service generally OK but very impersonal. Wouldn’t recommend unless absolutely necessary.

A beautiful hotel with historical and interesting interior. My room was clean and very comfortable, the view from the window facing New St, the bar and dining room were particularly lovely, with interesting artwork on most walls throughout hotel, and an abundance of marble columns and Victorian decor. The hotel staff were all helpful and courteous. I didnt sleep well here, but this was due to noise of people on the street, and when I reported this the manager offered to change my room. I would stay here again.

During my stay had some mishaps, bathroom was not clean, like it has not been properly prepared even when I checked in late evening, had to request another room which had only one towel, room was so cold, desk lamp not working. Second day the card wasn’t working, staff didn’t apologise for any of those issues. Breakfast very expensive and it was not good sadly. For a very expensive stay unfortunately the service and cleanliness not the best.

The room was clean, well-equipped and large so value for money in that respect. It appears to be the old Britannia Hotel and is looking a bit dated. Handy for the Central Station making it easy to get around but the immediate area is not particularly nice, especially later at night so be prepared and have your wits about you!

Check in was quick and easy, and we were allowed to leave bags securely before and after checking in/out. We had an enormous clean and comfortable room with loads of fluffy towels, tea and coffee. It was really quiet, which is amazing giving how central the hotel is. We could walk everywhere and be back in a flash. Loved it, and it was great value for money through Hotel.com's special rate

The hotel was in a great location with direct access to the German Market and also very close to train stations and the Bullring. Room was spacious and bed was comfortable. I have given the comfort rating a 2 purely down to the air conditioning. It didn’t work properly and was very warm in the room. I woke 5 times in the night and turned it back on only for it to turn off straight away.

We chose this hotel for its proximity to Grand Central Station. It is very convenient, literally right across the road from the train station. The hotel is very nice, with modern renovations and amenities. The bed in our room seemed quite old, as did the pillows, but the hotel was quiet once we closed the window to the endless horn honking and shouting that makes up the nighttime sounds of Birmingham. The breakfast was extremely disappointing. We had paid for full breakfast ahead of time. We arrived with plenty of time for our itinerary and waited to be greeted by the staff. After what seemed like forever they gestured us to a table, where we sat and watched as they served everyone else around us. After getting frustrated with being ignored, I approached a staff member to ask if we were supposed to order somewhere else or online. They looked confused, then someone finally came and took our order. We waited. And waited. And waited. They brought out 2 separate orders that were not ours, but belonged to tables that had come in long after us. By this point, my husband was fed up and approached the wait staff to ask about our food. Again, met with confusion and no answer. By this point they had made us nearly a hour late for our event, and we left without eating. The hotel desk staff was gracious enough to refund our money after we explained what happened, but now we had no time to eat. While I would recommend the hotel , I would not recommend eating at this hotel restaurant.

Air Con a little noisy and the television had extremely limited channels choice.

Our room was stifling hot, the air conditioning would not switch to cool and we were instead given a fan at 0230am as we’re told there was nothing they could do about the aircon at this time. The fan cooled the room but was then very noisy. Ultimately we got limited sleep. The manager in the morning stated that the air con was set to winter mode and would need estates to change this. The room was also very noisy as was at the front of the street. I respect that this noise is not the hotels fault but we should have been advised and given opportunity to request a quieter room. Overall a poor experience

Lovely hotel. Stayed numerous times. Always had a great experience. We paid extra this weekend for 1 night and we were clearly on the noisy side of the hotel. The noise from music was horrendous. We did raise this at check out and was told next time we book to ring and state we would like a quieter room! Felt like I paid extra to have no sleep. That is my only moan.

Easy access from train station but easy to walk to venue for a concert. Bed was too soft, but that’s us. Room smelt slightly musty although very clean.

We have stayed at this hotel a few times and it’s always been excellent. Unfortunately this time we were at the back of the hotel (station side) and the music from bars and club close by was a bit loud until 3am so had interrupted sleep

Room was very dated. Reception staff unhelpful on arrival due to booking with external provider. Lots of noise outside my room during the day- preachers talking about God and Donald Trump. During the evening, groups of youths gathered outside the hotel until the early hours listening to music and dancing in the street.

Unfortunately not the same hotel has previously stayed in a few years ago, in need of a major update, staff friendly although some didn't want to help, restaurant was poor food and service had one drink when maybe I would have liked a couple with my meal, instead of being full around 8pm on a Saturday only three couples, missing a great opportunity to shine in the city l was born in and now find myself visiting from overseas

Absolutely terrible. The heating & hot water system for the whole hotel failed and could not be fixed. The reception offered us and refund or if we wanted to continue to stay in this freezing hotel they would provide one small heater, but it would no where near be sufficient for our room (it was -4 degrees outside). The attitude of the staff on reception was 'not our fault', so we were left with trying to book another hotel in the city centre at 5pm on a friday night. They didn't even assist in finding another hotel for us. They just did not care. Very poor and i certainly do not expect this level of service from a supposed '4 star' hotel. i have stayed here every year at this time for many years, but will never stay here again.

Wonderfully comfortable and beautiful in appearance, with simply wonderful staff!!! The Burlington is really well located, especially if you're travelling by train and arriving into New Street station, and has some of the best staff I've ever encountered in a UK hotel.

Parking is not convenient and guests might be better to pick a garage closer as even with reduced rate it was expensive

Easy access from New Station train station as well as shops, pubs, retail, sight seeing and victoria square.

Great location for railway station and easier distance to arena

We enjoyed our 10 day stay. It is centrally located across from the train station and the mall. You can walk to most of the sites in Birmingham easily. There are some homeless people around but they are not a nuisance though it can get loud at night. The hotel is comfortable with dining options and the staff is kind and helpful. We look forward to another stay soon.

Hotel is in a Great location and has the Christmas market on its doorstep. We asked for a High floor room as we read reviews about noise and with staying on a weekend we thought it would be insane. We can confirm it is very noisy around the hotel if facing out towards the train station. Constant beeping and shouting but thankfully we were on the 5th floor which i would advise asking for as if you are on lower floors you will not be able to sleep. The Air conditioning would not stay on in our room and go off after 5 mins meaning windows were open till we went to sleep. Breakfast is good except if you want a latte or cappuccino don't expect it included as it is £4 extra for this which is insane giving i can go to a Travelodge and get this. Apart from the insane charges for selected things it did its job and put food in our bellys. If you are looking for an older classic hotel in central birmingham this will do the job just be aware of noise and additional charges at breakfast even when its included in your stay.

We did not use many of the facilities on this occasion but the hotel was good and our only issue was our 1 hour wait for breakfast

Overall this is a good hotel, no real issues or complaints. Breakfast was way overpriced for what you get. Better off finding somewhere else for breakfast. The Hotel is in a great location.

One night stay for my mums 83rd birthday, location is perfect, right next to New Street Station. The rooms we were allocated were spacious and quiet. The breakfast was amazing too!

Decor was a bit dated in general. Hotel was clean and good location, however due to location it can be noisy. Breakfast was disappointing.
