Holiday Inn Birmingham City by IHG

We had a weekend stay, the room was clean and comfortable and all the staff we met were polite and helpful. Breakfast is worth the additional cost but book with your room / stay. The hotel is very central and very close to the train station. The only downside is it can be quite noisey, but you get used to this and ear plugs are provided if you are a light sleeper.

Room was fine, breakfast was great. Only problem was the parking, I picked this hotel because we was driving over but they only have 6 parking spots.

It was fine. Comfortable and xlean though looking a bit old. Bar and foyer were nice. Food was OK. Bar staff were friendly a d professional.

The hotel was comfortable and clean, and the room was stylish. The staff we interacted with were all polite and pleasant. However, we would advise against using the “special deal” on car parking at the NCP behind the hotel. The ticket validation system is at best not very clear, and despite doing exactly what the receptionist told us to do, the exit machine wouldn’t accept that we had already paid and then promptly swallowed our ticket. We went back to the hotel where the receptionist assured us that all we needed was the hotel validation ticket (which we already had) and just to “press the button” and ask the attendant for help if the same thing happened again. Predictably the exit machine would not accept this ticket, there is no button to press and no attendant available to help. We had to spend ages in a queue on the phone to reach NCP “customer service” who then robotically repeated the line that if we didn’t have the original ticket we would have to pay again! Bearing in mind that it was their machine that had swallowed the ticket, this was absolutely infuriating. An extra hour added on to our journey time plus an extra £30 and a lot of frustration! PS The same thing happened to an older couple just ahead of us, so it feels like this is a problem that needs addressing if the hotel continues to offer its guests parking through NCP

Lovely place, nice staff, good location. Beware of the car parking, £30 per night not the £12.50 per night on-site covered parking as was described to me (screen shot at booking). They do have off site parking for the lower price.

Its location Is just perfect being minutes from new street station, shopping, nightlife and road network. Parking near is expensive it’s only negative. From the front desk team to the bar staff and the maids the staff are what make your stay here simple and convenient. The renovated areas of the hotel are suburb and even the older rooms, while dated still have great facilitates. The suites are great value for money.

Very conveniently located only a few steps to the main train station and city center. Although it’s not very appealing from the outside, it’s quite a comfortable hotel with a good lobby/restaurant/café area and good sized clean and functional rooms.

I booked this hotel for two nights when my son was competing near by. It said the room came with a fridge which was part of the reason for booking. On arrival we were told there was no fridge but we could have an ice bucket - disappointing. The room was very small and tired. The bathroom was old with black spots along the bath rim - just felt grubby. The coffee making was in the open single wardrobe so that your clothes hung over and on the kettle and cups. We tried to change rooms but none were available. The staff were pleasant and breakfast was okay but the room was very disappointing.

Lovely clean hotel

Well impressed with all aspects of our trip. Wonderful location, very comfy room and very clean. Impressed with the cleaneness throughout the hotel, and the staff were so friendly. Breakfast was lovely with lots of choice , and the whole area was kept very clean and tidy- omelette was delicious !! Will definatly stay again .

Room smelt of urine, half used packet of chewing gum in the room. Window did not close properly resulting in unbearable noise levels (room 715). Breakfast was surprisingly good.

Room was spotlessly clean , bathroom very clean and equipped with all the necessary soaps , Shampoos etc . Daily room clean spot on . Fabulous breakfast. Very comfortable stay .

i was a bit surprised by my room having dirty surfaces, recent stains on the upholstery, etc.

Very good location to train, bus and shopping. Hotel room - curtains really needed to be washed - quite dirty. Everything a little worn out. Nice thick towels in the bedroom. Some noise from street area. Very good service from reception.

The hotel itself was okay! The WiFi didn’t work all weekend and I ended up using all my data! But what made the experience worse is that

The hotel was well situated for the city centre but unfortunately there was a nightclub outside our windows which was extremely noisy , we moved rooms at 2am but were then in an inferior room with a much smaller bed ( premium king room was booked to give us space for my husbands broken shoulder!) The second room I booked for friends was also supposed to be king size but wasn’t . I also carefully chose the hotel because it said it had onsite parking but it didn’t , which was disappointing as we didn’t want to have to park our car in a public multi-storey overnight. Apart from the above though the hotel had a nice relaxed reception area with wonderful staff and the food was good

the property is very noisy. there is very little poor soundproofing, the door seals are poor and i could hear the toilet noises from upstairs and the fat northern guy arguing with people on the phone, the raised voices from the corridors, all of this is easily avoided.

Older property but public areas all look great, room was suitable for my night with a good comfy bed and many mention noise levels I heard no traffic at all. Some parts of room like door into bathroom small areas showing age but overall pretty decent hotel.

Booked the room due to the brand name and expected a great stay, especially given how much I paid. The room was freezing cold on arrival and the heating in the room didn't work. Called down to complain and was given a small space heater, which barely warmed the side of the bed in a large room. Had to wait in line to check out the next morning when most hotels now provide a keycard drop slot to check out quickly. Think I would have had a signifciantly better stay in the Travelodge next door for half the price.

Checked in, then found out that the air conditioning was broken when I got to the room. During a heatwave, this was unbearable and the room was stifling. I went down and was told that they didnt know when it would be fixed. So decided to check out, go elsewhere and get a refund. Apart from this, I think there are better hotels for similar prices.

I have stayed at this hotel many times, it is generally very good, but the air conditioning was not working, and apparently had not been for 2 weeks or so. This was not pointed out when checking in. A fan was supplied but the room was so hot. Nearly impossible to sleep

I've paid for hotel when I've booked with hotels.com and on arrival lady asked for my card, I thought it was just for authorisation but found out next day she actually charged me again for same room. After speaking to 3 different people managed to get refund but no apologies whatsoever. To be honest not very happy with that!

Warm welcome on arrival,early check in.staff extremely friendly and helpful, everyone looking happy on whatever roll they had Our room perfect clean ,airey and well kept I wouldn't stay anywhere else when in Birmingham. I have travelled the world, USA, Australia, Canada, and around Europe,I was well impressed. Thank your staff from me

Not recommended. 45mins to check in (not including queue time). Bar service very slow, even when the bar wasn't busy. At breakfast, directed to a table that wasn't laid, so had to scavenge cutlery, etc from other tables. Hotel itself was OK, but there's definitely a staff/training issue here. Book with caution.

Fantastic hotel. Ignore the slightly dowdy facade, this hotel is great. The staff very friendly and knowledgeable, the hotel clean an inviting as soon as you walk through the door. I go as far to say the best Holiday Inn I’ve stayed and I travel regularly. Special shout out to the receptionist

Arrived to check in several hours after the check in time to be told that the room still wasn't ready. We were advised it would be ready in 10 mins and offered a complimentary drink. The room was not ready until 50 mins later. On entering the room there were still wet towels in the bathroom and bins with no bin bags. Given that we had paid for a premium room the service did not reflect this. We were offered complimentary parking but for the level of inconvenience i would have expected a discount. Would think twice about booking here!

The hotel location was good, right next to train station. But the hotel need some management makeover. The staff at check-in was rude and very unprofessional. Upon entering my room, I was met with an overwhelming musty odor that made me question the cleanliness of the space. The room had no carpet, the floor was dusty. and the thermorstat was broken. When I attempted to address my concerns with the front desk staff, I was met with indifference and a dismissive attitude. I wasted over a hour at front desk just trying to talk to their manager to have the problems fixed. Overall, my stay at this hotel was a disheartening experience that left me feeling frustrated and unsatisfied.

All staff were friendly and welcoming. Being from check-in to check-out, and including staff at bar and breakfast times. Any issues I had were dealt with quickly and efficiently once reported. Great choice at breakfast. Stayed in Junior Suite, which was at end of corridor, although busy road outside, due to bed position was no issue when trying to get to sleep. Overall great value for money, previously stayed elsewhere in city, paid more there and this was far better value.

Staffs were so rude. I didn’t even staff in the hotel I left to easyhotel. I have been an IHG member for years and this particular holiday inn is a property I will never recommend to anyone

Just a one-night stay, but the room was spotless and very comfortable. This hotel is so well placed for anyone using New St station and the two malls (Grand Central and the Bull Ring) adjacent to it, which have lots of speedy dining options.

We were in Birmingham for one night to see a play at the Alexandra Theatre, which was a short walk around the corner from the hotel. The NCP car park was 100 yards away and extremely convenient, albeit a little expensive (£30 for 24 hrs). All in all, the hotel was in a fantastic location and very convenient for our trip.

Great and convenient hotel in city central.

Good room, hotel very clean, good breakfast, efficient service at check-in, breakfast and bar. Very convenient central location but the downside of that was noise from the street at night, even 8 floors up. This disturbed the sleep of one of us who isn't usually a light sleeper.

The location in proximity to the train station was great, however the surrounding area felt run down and dirty. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. The room itself was very tired and needed a refurb! The bed was incredibly soft and not the most comfortable. It was very noisy overnight with drunk guests running up and down the corridor and making a lot of noise!! And fights outside didn’t help the noise levels! Overall the experience here was just average.

Lovely stay here as always but was disappointed with the breakfast it was cold I know you have a lot of people to cater for but that was the only downside to our otherwise great stay.

The room was spacious, bright, with a very comfortable bed and lovely deep carpets. The bathroom was a bit dated in comparison. Breakfast was excellent, with a good range of hot and cold food. When we arrived on Saturday evening I realised that I left my toothpaste at home. I asked in reception whether they had any. I was told that they would check with housekeeping and call me up in the room. No call came. When I went downstairs to investigate another lady was in reception and she told me that they didn’t keep toothpaste, but there was a shop round the corner where I could buy some. I did go out to buy it. Later in the evening I saw a sign in the bathroom, which basically said that if you forgot some essentials, like your toothbrush or toothpaste, you can get some from reception. 🙂

Hotel was great. Very clean and the staff was very helpful. Great bar and good food. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Great location between New St Station and the Hippodrome. Rooms are decent with comfortable beds and good shower. Good size TV. A little noisy from the street but not enough to disturb sleep. Breakfasts ate excellent

Breakfast area too small for hotel. Dinner - took too long and forgot to serve part of order.
