Food was okay, dining table rocked as we ate. We went to get our cooked breakfast and our cups etc were lifted and we returned to a virtually empty table. On reading the description of the hotel before booking we were led to believe that all other rooms except for the ground floor had been redecorated. We had stayed at the hotel about 8 years ago and it was in need of redecoration then and other than new wallpaper on one wall, the furniture had remained unchanged since then. The service was quite chaotic and we do feel that while these renovations are ongoing the price of the stay should be much cheaper. Parking your car in the basement (which is now the level of the temporary entrance to the hotel) is now £14.00 overnight as the receptionist told us on check in, although we had wondered why there were so many empty spaces. The basement carpark has now been bought over by a private company. Hilton you definitely need to make vast changes for us to stay here again!!!

Hotel is under construction. No access to lobby except through parking garage. Breakfast dining facilities were relocated to a conference room. Rooms do not have AC (disabled) and the rooms get hot. They provide a fan, but the window to the outside opens only a crack due to safety cord. Terrible nights sleep with stuffy heat in the room and road noise and loud drunks in the late evening. Food service was questionable. Rooms were not consistently stocked. 3 couples had varied amenities or lack there of on the same floor. If the hotel is going to be in a remodeling a discount should be offered for those staying in the old rooms and putting up with the many inconveniences. Definitely not as represented in the offering.

Booked three rooms for a family trip - shortly after receiving my confirmation I received a separate email from the hotel advising that the ongoing work at the hotel meant that they had a temporary reception, bar area etc on the first floor and that the only access to the hotel was via the underground car park. If I had known this before I would not have made the booking. The hotel refused to cancel the booking. The place is a mess due to the ongoing work - really not happy with the situation.

Derry is lovely and the staff were also lovely. The hotel is getting renovated and needs it. Gym is good size but all equipement is old and so are the changing rooms. The bathroom in bedroom is so outdated. Hopefully they will adresss all of this with the work going on

Fantastic location and very busy. Great to have music in the bar area around dinner time. However, the pool and spa facilities were out of order. Breakfast was poor - coffee machines broken, food slow to come out, no bowls for cereal, no plates for the croissants. Although staff all friendly and helpful.

We were disappointed with our stay here. It's certainly not a 4 star hitel as advertised. I know there are renovations taking place but this has been months. We had to enter through basememt carpark. No stair option so no way into the hotel unless you take the lift. You had to wait ages for lifts. Room was very dark, lighting very poor which made it very hard to do make up. Sheets were stained. Blind rail was hanging off the window. Tv didnt work. Paint was falling of the ceiling into the swimming pool. Trying to get the attention of someone to be seated for breakfast was impossible. They kept walking by. We just sat ourselves in the end. Plates werent lifted between courses. Just wasnt a great experience. Plus side, location is excellent

The lobby is under construction so no grand welcome. They are apologetic and service was good. The room has no phone to call the front desk so when we had a question about WiFi (connectivity was very poor) we had to go down to the makeshift lobby in person. The room is big, tiny bathroom. Overall 4 stars bc Not great, but good enough.

The hotel is under refurbishment and this is definitely needed. Rooms are very old, furniture has the wear and tear of 20+ yrs of use. Window wouldn't shut properly and could hear traffic at night, room www visibly dirty, condiments not replenished daily on a 3 night stay. Bed and pillows were not good, pool area needs total redoing. Would have raised a far bigger issue if we had been in the hotel much but luckily was a tourist trip. When I did raise at checkout was really noted just a "sorry that's a pity" Location is a positive

Service second to none staff couldn’t have been more helpful. For a 4 star hotel the areas are not up to scratch. The swimming pool area seemed grubby and the changing area was an absolute disgrace with half the lockers not working and many without actual doors. Also there is no private areas to change which I was shocked at as not everyone likes to change in public. The fact that the towels barely fit my 10 year old in this area as well was disappointing. Our room was clean and a great size. Everything you need was there. The tables etc definitely have seen better days and in need of an update. Being from the city originally I have stayed in a few of the hotels in town and this would not be the top of my list to stay again.

I have stayed here quite a few times and this was not the best stay I had. Staff that I interacted with where friendly. However, requested twice for a top in the morning while cleaning service was about. They went into the room but didnt top up the tea and coffee station. Asked again for these when i saw it and still nothing. At 11.30 at night had to take my child out on a horrible night to get milk from a local shop and they wanted some tea to help them sleep. Also requested for dust to be cleaned off the wall lights as it was effecting my allergies. Again, this was not done, despite the clearers been in the room.

Great location for exploring Derry with lovely views over the River Foyle. Hotel underground car park was full so had to park in public car park across the road (Sunday was free however). Hotel was busy with a good atmosphere. Rooms were very clean and spacious. If I had to give one bit of feedback it is the hotel does look a little tired for a 4 star hotel. Still recommend the hotel and would stay again

This property is undergoing an extensive renovation however, there is no excuse for dirty cutlery and no attempt to replace when pointed out. Also coffee brought no milk no condiments on the table. Waitress just seem disinterested. I know it’s going through a refurb but they could try and show a bit of warmth to guests. Also bar service quite slow and no urgency to serve waiting guests. Should be transparent on £14 parking fee when making booking.

Room was grubby. Wall paper torn, furniture was not clean and had peices torn out. Bathroom tiles were very dirty. Leisure centre was very dirty and badly needs revamped.. Service at lunch was very poor.. order completely wrong and soup was missing.. when soup arrived it was spilled out over the side of the bowl.. whole experience was dreadful.. will never stay again..

There are no plugs beside the beds and we use medical equipment. The reception contacted maintenance and they had an extension lead brought to the room within minutes but we then had a cable trailing from one wall to opposite side of room where beds were which wasn't ideal. I would hope this is taken in2 acct with the new refurbishment taking place. Street parking opposite is £5 depending when you arrive. Hotel charge £14 per night.

Hotel is currently undergoing refurbishment but our experience was a good one. Staff were very helpful to store our bags before check-in. Our room 701 on the top floor was in good condition, spacious and quiet. The air-con was working, if a little noisy, and we had a great view over Derry. I’m sure when complete this will be an excellent hotel.

Very small beds, small room, terrible pillows. Needs some freshing up with paint and carpet. Tub was difficult to maneuver for over 70s group, very high sides having to crawl over.

Window wouldn't shut properly and could hear traffic at night, room www visibly dirty, condiments not replenished daily on a 3 night stay. Bed and pillows were not good, pool area needs total redoing. Would have raised a far bigger issue if we had been in the hotel much but luckily was a tourist trip. According to some of our party the Guiness was poor.The room we stayed in was in dire need of an update and the absence of a fridge was disappointing particularly given the price of the room.The dinner on the Saturday night was very good and the waiting staff were very professional.

We stayed 1 night when in Derry for a wedding. The hotel is extremely dated, although undergoing renovations as recently taken over by Hilton’s Doubletree brand. Our room was large and served its purpose but overall not terribly soundproof leading to a disturbed nights sleep from children being left to run wild up and down the corridor. Contributing to the poor nights sleep was the uncomfortable bed and pillows. Breakfast was a good offering in a room that will be lovely once renovated.

Super friendly staff, comfortable room. We arrived early parked and checked bags in before exploring the city. Staff gave us a city map and explained where things were. We used the hot tub and sauna which were welcome after walking for several hours! Ate in the hotel restaurant on the dine in deal (£49 2 people for 2 courses & a bottle of wine) food was tasty and well presented. Overall a comfortable well placed hotel in the city with brilliant staff and good facilities. Only complaint is there was a coffee machine in the room but only decafe pods supplied which was a shame.

We arrived checked in , no issue, room no issue and then down to the pool. The pool and changing rooms like the whole place is dated and bit run down. The main issue was we sat in the bar for food at 6.45 and went to get a drink and was told someone would come and take our order. 45 mins passed and we approached staff again and our order was then taken but after waiting and hr we asked was the food nearly ready and it arrived in 5mins stone cold and soggy burger bap as if the food was ready 45mins ago and left sitting there until be asked. We did complain and speak to the manager who did get new food for us in 20mins and then we waited a further hr until plates were collected and desert order taken but never came back to clear the table and we waited a further 45mins on brownie and ice-cream and when we asked about it 2 more times it came out and the brownie was cold so all in all a terrible experience. Kust like forgotten about each time and breakfast was just ok. Wont be rushing back

I have stayed here quite a few times and this was not the best stay I had. Staff that I interacted with where friendly. However, requested twice for a top in the morning while cleaning service was about. They went into the room but didnt top up the tea and coffee station. Asked again for these when i saw it and still nothing. At 11.30 at night had to take my child out on a horrible night to get milk from a local shop and they wanted some tea to help them sleep. Also requested for dust to be cleaned off the wall lights as it was effecting my allergies. Again, this was not done, despite the clearers been in the room.

Loved our break in Derry and definitely recommend the City Hotel. Marked down only because the leisure facilities and pool weren’t available during our stay as looked forward to a swim each morning. That aside the hotel is in a perfect location for exploring the city and its fascinating history, and staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was amazing and loved the fact that the toast was made as your breakfast was dished up, without having to manoeuvre a toast machine that had its settings moved with every user. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Fantastic location very close to city walls and beside the river. Hotel was undergoing renovation in June 2025 as it is becoming a Hilton property. This was my second stay in 7 years and I hope the friendliness and reasonable pricing does not change. Parking is under the hotel in a very well hidden and small area. If you get a spot you will not want to move until check out. Parking an SUV would be quite a challenge. I hope to come back to this hotel one day.

Booked three rooms for a family trip - shortly after receiving my confirmation I received a separate email from the hotel advising that the ongoing work at the hotel meant that they had a temporary reception, bar area etc on the first floor and that the only access to the hotel was via the underground car park. If I had known this before I would not have made the booking. The hotel refused to cancel the booking. The place is a mess due to the ongoing work - really not happy with the situation.

Great location in the city centre ,close to bars ,restaurants and shopping , bed was comfy ,breakfast was good and for the price paid Cant really fault it .Only downside was free hotel car park was full as hotel was fully booked ,but multi-storey next door anyway was £12.50 from 3:00pm to 10:30am Suggestion move the toaster away from the hot breakfast buffet, You have to join the queue for the buffet just to get toast ,could be relocated to solve this

Great location for exploring Derry with lovely views over the River Foyle. Hotel underground car park was full so had to park in public car park across the road (Sunday was free however). Hotel was busy with a good atmosphere. Rooms were very clean and spacious. If I had to give one bit of feedback it is the hotel does look a little tired for a 4 star hotel. Still recommend the hotel and would stay again

Food was okay, dining table rocked as we ate. We went to get our cooked breakfast and our cups etc were lifted and we returned to a virtually empty table. On reading the description of the hotel before booking we were led to believe that all other rooms except for the ground floor had been redecorated. We had stayed at the hotel about 8 years ago and it was in need of redecoration then and other than new wallpaper on one wall, the furniture had remained unchanged since then. The service was quite chaotic and we do feel that while these renovations are ongoing the price of the stay should be much cheaper. Parking your car in the basement (which is now the level of the temporary entrance to the hotel) is now £14.00 overnight as the receptionist told us on check in, although we had wondered why there were so many empty spaces. The basement carpark has now been bought over by a private company. Hilton you definitely need to make vast changes for us to stay here again!!!

Hotel is under construction. No access to lobby except through parking garage. Breakfast dining facilities were relocated to a conference room. Rooms do not have AC (disabled) and the rooms get hot. They provide a fan, but the window to the outside opens only a crack due to safety cord. Terrible nights sleep with stuffy heat in the room and road noise and loud drunks in the late evening. Food service was questionable. Rooms were not consistently stocked. 3 couples had varied amenities or lack there of on the same floor. If the hotel is going to be in a remodeling a discount should be offered for those staying in the old rooms and putting up with the many inconveniences. Definitely not as represented in the offering.
