Forty First Place - Boutique Hostel

Very clean but cold with no ability to change temperature. I tried to use the oven veggie I even put anytime in every fire alarms went off on the floor. The cleanliness was amazing but I can't stand being cold for no reason. Also the bathroom smelled like mold after showering.

The place was very convenient and close to the LA Coliseum. The rooms were comfortable and had everything you needed, and nothing you didn't need. The area is in an area that is slowly getting gentrified, so temper expectations on the location. If you are expecting a bourgeois place, you're not going to get that here. You're getting a bed, a hot shower and a shared kitchen -perfect for short term stays. I always felt safe in the area. When you check in, make sure you get a code for the front door and a code for your room. Parking is non-existent, but that's to be expected in LA, which is why rideshares are suggested. Overall, I liked this place and would stay again.

Would be a nice place for an extended stay with friends for sure. Street parking is definitely hard though so be ready for that. Rooms are very nice and it’s perfect walking distance to BMO stadium so you don’t have to pay outrageous parking fees. Label your name on your food inside the fridge as well or put it all in a big bag.

There is VERY limited street parking, and we were ill prepared for how much of a hassle it would be to find parking close to our building. The walls are also extremely thin. There is no staff on site, just cameras and the occasional maintenance person. We also found an empty water bottle in our room upon arrival, but other than that it was pretty clean. There is also no ceiling fan or any way to control air flow in this room, which is disappointing because this is very obviously a newly constructed building. We tried to contact the management through the provided number, but were unsuccessful. The money that you save staying here rather than a big hotel will probably be spent on bringing your own food, so unless you don’t have many other options, I’d opt for somewhere else with guaranteed parking at least.

I booked this because it was within walking/scootering distance from USC. That really was the only positive. When I arrived the room was dirty, pee still in the toilet, hairs all over the bathroom, floor was very dirty, my socks were immediately brown. The first night was okay, but Friday and Saturday night I could hear every sound from every other resident - toilets flushing, people peeing, people talking, people cooking, people’s alarms going off in the morning… there is zero sound proofing in the building. I got multiple texts in the middle of the night asking people to move their cars however my check-in told me there was no onsite parking… overall it worked, but I would never book again.

It was horrible. We followed the instructions and found a whole family in our room going in an out in their pajamas. Turns out they were told the same thing buildinf 617 room 1. We obviously didn't have a place to stay for the night so we had to leave. Contacted the company and they refuse to acknowledge another guest was in our room. They also refuse to give me a refund. Also absolutely no parking as this location is smack down in the middle of a narrow street neighborhood.

Although it says there is no parking, I messaged the front desk and they allowed me to park on the property for a small fee. Seems like they allow it if there is availability.

Inadequate parking for these rooms. there were constant messages about someone blocking someone else and there is absolutely no street parking within blocks. The room itself was ok, somewhat noisy as shared if your housemates spoke (thin walls between)

Towels, shampoo, conditioner and body wash are provided. There is also a common area such as dining and kitchen. Kitchen is well stuffed with cutleries and appliances which will allow you to cook should you want to. Owner/Customer Service was very quick to respond when you have queries. Also doors have its own digital locks and the code will be given to you on the day of your arrival so you dont need to worry about keys/key cards. ✖️ Looks clean but not clean enough - floor is quite dirty and the towels and pillows have a smell like sweat that was left on. Soundproofing is not that good - you can hear the doors, footsteps, shower drain and toilet flushes from the room on top of you most especially. You can also hear noises from the outside like barking dogs. There is airconditioning which is centralised but the thermostat can be controlled by anyone. At one point it was set by someone to 77F (25C) when the temp outside was around 80sF (30sC) which quite frankly, beats the purpose of it. Overall it was a decent stay for its price.

The hostel itself was great, but there was used eyelashes in the bathroom on the counter, as well as lots of dead bugs inside of the shower itself. Just kind of off putting. The room was great, but the sheets were most definitely NOT cleaned before I got there.

Though the room wasn't ready for 30 minutes, the staff was so friendly and helpful. We really liked the style of the rooms and the joint room was nice and spacious. There wasn't a trash can in the room but we had our own little trash bag so that was fine. Also, there weren't any paper towels or hand towels in the kitchen. It was nice having a lot of space in the closet but a few more hangers would be really nice. I also don't think my bedroom sheets were washed because there were body oil stains on the sheets along with body glitter and they didn't smell very good. My throw blanket was also really dirty. Neither of us slept really well because there was a very loud and profane argument right outside the balcony window and the hotel staff had a lot to deal with in that regard. Overall, it was a great location to stay and we felt at home.

No staff on site Sheets had cigarette holes burned in - seriously wondered if they had been laundered - smelled bad Noisy - neighbors knocking on doors at 12:00pm to move cars- then loud honking for 15 min. Neighbor has several dogs that barked constantly -Smoke alarm went off continuously every 2 min after midnight - texted staff no response for like 10 min Do yourself a favor pay a little more - stay somewhere else !

Do not stay there. The area is terrible, annoying car parking, room looks nothing like the photos, small beds and dirty. And my bathroom door was stuck locked so I packed up and booked somewhere else.

With all honesty we arrived and our place was not that clean. We only got two towels that didn’t smell clean, we didn’t get wash rags or hand towels. Others things that lacked cleanliness were the mirrors, surfaces, and the floors were not well swept/vacuumed. The body wash and the hand soap were watered down. Also a day before our check out, housekeeping came in without knocking and said that we were supposed have checked out which was incorrect. I understand it is a hostel style stay however I think small improvements could have made a huge difference.

On the hotels.com website I thought it would be a wonderful getaway with my girlfriend. Unfortunately not true. Room was clean, but very small for the price I paid. Kitchen is shared amongst others on the 2nd floor. We were set on 3rd floor and privacy was none as rooms are extremely close to each other and walls are fairly thin. From this I booked another hotel as privacy is needed as a couple

Forty first place is clean, comfortable beds, quiet atmosphere, WiFi works great, and close to eateries. Management responds to any questions in a timely manner.

The room has a strong paint smell and feels dusty. Checked in however, didn’t stay and left as-is. I couldn’t put up with above conditions. Customer service was average as its best. I felt that an AI or auto responder was answering my concerns.

Worst experience ever. Horrible guests. Loud rock music playing late at night. A woman screaming and cursing and also playing music all night long. The kitchen is a shared space and the refrigerator didn’t look like it had been cleaned in months. Absolutely disgusting. There’s a sign in the kitchen that warns guests that they will be asked to leave if they eat someone else’s food. Someone ate a slice of my pizza, threw away my breakfast sandwich, and opened my wings! Management refused to enforce their own rules and simply told me “some people just are inconsiderate”. Never mind the fact that there’s a camera pointing at the fridge that could’ve shown who ate my food! We lost power one night. They randomly changed the door code and I was locked out at one point. There’s no daily service. You won’t get your linens changed, towels changed, nor the trash emptied in your room. You won’t even receive a wash cloth! The hand soap in the bathroom was filled up with water as opposed to being replaced when it got empty! It’s in a very sketchy area. Two random men came knocking on the door about a lost cellphone. VERY SKETCHY! I don’t recommend anyone stay here!

We had a comfortable stay for a week. Housekeeping staff both of them were very helpful. Good service.

Everything was clean and organized. Very comfortable stay. The staff was very accommodatiing with service timely. Street parking is very limited to none if you arrive after working hours. I would stay again. Thank you!

We really liked the location near the colleseum. We like that it was convient easy and affordable. Honestly I misread "hostel" as hotel, but was really pleasantly surprised when I saw it was a hostel but this nice. Your area is private and comfortable and it's great if you are doing things in the city all day. Great place to lay your head down.
