The only thing that was the consensus of every family, including ours, is that for the nightly rate, pool and beach chairs should be guaranteed. My guess is that they have enough pool chairs for about 30% of the rooms, faaaar too low and we saw it causing some serious anger and jockeying for pool chairs in a line 20 minutes before the pool opened. We opted to stay out of that nightmare and rent chairs from a private vendor on the beach. The resorts beach chairs must be paid for and sell out days in advance too. Cabanas are stupid expensive, with rates changing constantly depending on their inventory. Not worth it, in my opinion. ($800-$2000 per day, which includes nothing but cabana and some chairs) If their upgrade to The Napua rooms included guaranteed pool space or chairs, that would make sense. But they don't. Napua is irrelevant in our opinion and simply a quick money grab, not worth it. They need to figure this out, then they can call themselves a 5-star resort, but until then, they are not. Great for families, bring your running shoes and patience, maybe boxing gloves, if you want pool or beach space!

What can I say about this property, it was every bit as AMAZING as the ppl who wrote good reviews! Our check in was super easy and the receptionist was super nice. Our room was ocean view on 7th floor, it’s quite a walk to get there, but staying a week you get used to it. The room view was gorgeous and the room itself was clean and beautiful. We get two free waters whenever they come clean. We rented the cabana by the pool for the day, pretty expensive, but you’ll enjoy the experience and the lazy river and swim up bar, that was pretty amazing! Highly recommend! Great drinks and servers all around the bar. The restaurants are great, better to have a reservation for dinner, but they are ok with walk ins. The food in my opinion was great, the humhumu restaurant was my fav, especially the breakfast buffet. Everyone was kind and friendly. The spa services are to die for! The couples massage was amazing, you will NOT regret it! Spa was very quiet, peaceful and clean and the staff friendly and kind. It was my birthday and they made me feel special. Overall I give Grand Wailea 10 stars! We are definitely returning soon!

Property is beautiful, room was great, had an amazing view of the ocean. Restaurants were very good, Humuhumu was our favorite! Pool system is huge and a lot of fun! Lot's of kids, so definitely a family friendly resort. We did feel like we got price gouged on everything, and it's not just because it was an expensive resort. We stayed at another similar caliber resort and felt like it was more worth what we paid. Had an amazing time, but I think there are other options that may feel more worth the money!

Pros: amazing beach, love the beachwalk, love and lava cosmic bliss! Food at all restaurants and cafe was delish Cons: have to pay extra for shade, not enough water machines to refill your bottles, felt a little outdated and run down for how expensive it was. Game room only open Friday-Sunday and only for a few hours.

Disappointing Experience at Grand Wailea Waldorf Astoria Resort My family and I travel 3-4 times a year for relaxing vacations, as I work 50-60 hours a week and look forward to unwinding. We chose Grand Wailea, expecting exceptional service from a 5-star hotel, but our stay was anything but relaxing. The core issue lies in their BUSINESS MODEL, which feels manipulative and guest-unfriendly. The pool area, a key feature for relaxation, has a severe shortage of chairs and even fewer umbrellas. To secure a spot, guests are forced to wake up early and line up at 7 AM to race for limited seating. This is not the vacation experience I signed up for. Here’s where it gets frustrating: the hotel has created this artificial scarcity to push guests toward renting exorbitantly priced cabanas or pergolas for $750 a day. These cabanas dominate the pool area, taking up space that could easily accommodate more chairs for all guests. This BUSINESS MODEL prioritizes profit over guest comfort, and I felt exploited rather than valued. Why charge a resort fee if basic amenities like pool seating are so limited? If cabanas were an optional luxury with special services, we would have gladly rented one to relax, but instead, they’re positioned as a solution to a problem the hotel itself creates. This was, by far, the worst holiday experience we’ve had, and I’m deeply disappointed by the lack of genuine hospitality.

Booked 3 nights for the last leg of our Hawaiian family vacation only to find out on arrival that the two reasons we booked this hotel were ruined. The water park was our biggest reason for booking which had the slides shut down, some we were informed since Covid. The second was a relaxing beach environment ruined not only by hotel construction, but construction at the pool side restaurant (which is still listed as open) resulting in no scape from the noise. The most infuriating part was the hotel staff, when explaining the slides were shut down, or restaurants shut down, spa shut down, or hotel construction said ‘Hopefully it will be better on your next visit’. This was my only visit, it cost us over $5k, and knowing any of this information up front we would have cancelled this portion of our trip and saved the money. They know that which is why they don’t warn you up front. Thank you for ruining the last half of my first family vacation in three years.

Despite this being probably the best piece of property on the island, the owners have really not put the effort into maintaining it. Stairwells show signs of not being cleaned in many months or longer - we saw dead lizards, cigarette butts, and a bulld of of various garbage. Pool decks are overly slippery and unsafe. Pool water is dirty and not maintained you will get a rash. Their water elevator has not worked in years and according to staff they are not in any hurry to fix it. Areas around hot tubs get littered with empty cups and beer cans making it unsafe for children. All food options are over the top expensive. After the first day we would walk to other resorts nearby or the market across the street to eat. Hotel is very short staffed so if you call the front desk the phone just rings for a very long time, plus very long waits to check in or out. House keeping works limit hours which may not be convenient if you have a baby that needs to nap.

The beach is the absolute star of the show. Love the different pools and landscaping throughout the property. Some areas need a little repair with some walkways with missing or crumbled stones. The pools were open until 10pm which was so nice but towels were not available poolside after 5pm. You had to go upstairs to the valet which was odd and inconvenient. I noticed that used glasses and debris were left in sitting areas, lobby, walkways, for lengthy amounts of time. The room itself was well situated, had a nice view, and a beautiful large bathroom. The room was very clean and housekeeping services were excellent although the room decor could use an update. The biggest asset of this resort is the staff. In all areas we found the staff to be helpful, courteous, and enjoyable. A special mention to the front desk, Carolina, she was super. Shopping is a short walk from the resort.

The grand Wailea used to be a spectacular place. It has really gone downhill… Our room was filthy, we had several issues with the door, not locking the air conditioner being very loud… Cleanliness of the room the sheets were dirty. The bathroom was dirty… Staff was nice about addressing some of our concerns, but there were so many and so often we just gave up. The property is outrageously noisy… If you stay here, you will not get a peaceful night sleep. They play music very loud until 11 o’clock every evening. I will never stay here again.

We expected more from a hotel that charges so much. Not to mention the resort fees and valet fees. We ended up paying close to $1000 just in fees. It’s a total rip off. As we entered the hotel, we noticed how old and ran down this place is. The furniture in the lobby was dirty and old. We were hoping the rooms would be in a better condition, but that wasn’t the case either. We arrived at the hotel around 2pm and wanted to see if they had our room ready. After standing in the check in line for 30 minutes, we were told that our room is being cleaned and they would text us when it was ready. Around 4pm i went back to the registration desk to see how long more it was going to take, she then said oh your room is now ready. Our room was not cleaned properly. There were dead bugs, pieces of paper and other debris on the carpet. On our last day my daughter lost her toy so I thought maybe it fell behind the bed. I wish I didn’t look, I almost gagged from disgust. If I knew it was that bad I wouldn’t have slept on that bed that whole time. The only positive about this hotel is the pool area. They have different pools with slides and fun lazy river. Also the beach is nice too. We will not return to this hotel. For the price we paid there are better and cleaner options.

This was our second time visiting the Grand Wailea at Christmas. Our check in line was 25 minutes and greeting lacking the aloha spirit that we expected from our other visit. Last year our room was in one of the newer towers, but so far from the pool that we decided to get a closer ground floor room. Unfortunately it was very underwhelming - dusty in quite a few areas, had a dirty cleaning rag on the carpet when we arrived and a dead cockroach outside the slider door. But it was more convenient. Valet this year was an irritant, when we had a car and when we were just getting a Lyft. They do high volume which I appreciate, but the service level gave a stressed vibe rather than quality resort. There's also a huge number of large party guests that appear just to be clueless about where to stand, how to be considerate of others going in and out of the front of the hotel. The pool features are great, but chairs limited and it's a serious commitment to have chairs for the day. The pool deck is not cleaned well - sand everywhere, dirty cups from day before, band aids. Pool attendants for drink and food service were great, lobster club excellent. Guests are not encouraged to rinse off after the beach and it shows from the deck, in pool seats and cleanliness of the pool floor. The pool tiling and grout is also showing its age, which is sad for such a grant resort. The value of resort fee value is poor, they really should just adjust room prices. Location beach excellent.

This property was quite a disappointment. Our room was so dusty, clearly not cleaned recently. The safe battery was out and the mini fridge did not work and had to be replaced. Our hand soap was never replaced. Our room was not cleaned until late afternoon which was frustrating. At the pool, cups with alcohol were everywhere around the pools and hot tubs. This is extreme negligence since there were kids everywhere. The staff was not friendly and we were not greeted with a lei or guava drink or any of the perks one would expect at a 5 star resort. I truly do not know how this resort is rated 5 stars. There were no included beach chairs which were advertised when we booked. Rather, they offered mere Tommy Bahama folding chairs which were all signed out before 9 am everyday. They had maybe 20 or so of these chairs on the beach which is insane based on how gigantic this resort is. I highly advise splurging the extra money for the Four Seasons, for that is a true 5 star resort. The best part was that the pools were heated and the location was great but besides that it is a very overrated resort.

Property is absolutely beautiful had a really good time during our stay. However, rooms were not properly clean. Our cabinets were filled with half eaten snacks from a previous stay, contacted the front desk, they sent someone to clean once when I was showering, and then forgot about it. Next day cleaning staff left a cleaning rag in our room that just stayed there for our entire stay.

Every morning, throats hurted as the room seemed to have too much dusts, and there were no water pot and kitchen utensils. Out of all things, its restaurants in this 5-star hotel was the worst ever. Worse than any other low-cost dining outside the hotel. Ikena, the breakfast buffet, had great serving staffs and ocean view, but food was awful. Diversity was very lacking, and taste was bad too. It only had several types of breads, one pancake, salads, meats(bacom and sausage only), milks, yogurts, fruits and one single omelette stand with a staff. Fruit juices, omelette, fruits were decent but anything else did not deserve to be in a 5-star hotel and $50/person price. Humuhumunukunukuapua, had a nice air and interesting interior as if we were eating on a hut on a sea, but food was just like any other TGIF or Outback\'s microwave warmed foods. If a 5-star hotel offers this quality of foods, it deserves to be evaluated as "AWFUL" or "WORST". Even local people say its restaurant is awful, and they guess the reason as Grand Wailea\'s policy to rotate chefs every 3 months. (If it is true or not) As a guest wishing Grand Wailea keeps its great strength and thrives throughout the next generation, I really hope Grand Wailea matches its quality to price!!!!

It was nice that the front desk agent found a room that was easy for me when I checked in early. However, I got to the room which was a trek from the front desk and my key didn’t work. When I communicated via the Hilton app it was like the people didn’t realize I had just checked in bc I was told to go back to the front desk to get a physical key. I had to advocate for myself and say the lock is broken bc no lights are flashing. And that the front desk was a long distance from my room and I didn’t want to cart my luggage back to the front desk. I asked for some staff member to come and look at the lock. After over 25 minutes I finally was able to get in the room because engineering came with a battery and a lock fix. This entire situation could have been avoided if the lock was checked before the room was approved for someone to check in. So I it was a rocky arrival experience.

This is a beautiful property with a beautiful location. There is shopping quite close with a variety of things you may need. The only down side to the room was the choice of coffee makers . We would have loved to sit on our balcony and drink a cup of coffee in the morning but the fact that they decided to put a Nespresso machine in every room as opposed to a regular coffee maker made that impossible . Not everyone wants to have a "specialty coffee" first thing in the morning and the fact that the cups they provided were not even big enough to hold the coffee from one pod was interesting to say the least.

Positives: Beautiful hotel and grounds with a great beach and many walkable shops and restaurants. Great cleaning staff. Negatives: Adults pool was not cleaned regularly. Remaining pools are all filled with kids. Rooms have a very small shower area sadly. Also, very, very cheap toilet paper. Patio furniture needs restaining and varnish (the stain transferred to our wet swim suits which we were trying to dry). Poor sound proofing to adjacent rooms. No fan in toilet area. They forgot our complimentary water bottles. You would expect a 5 star to not have these issues.

This hotel wasn’t the usual Luxury you’d expect from a Waldorf Astoria. The rooms are very outdated. Room service needs to be more aware of stained sheets and towels. I had dried blood on one of my pillow cases and towel with an old make up stain on it. The TV in the room is old. Not a smart TV. There’s no mini bar. They have a refillable bottle water system. You get two bottles of water and have to refill them at a water station, which would be no problem if they had a refill station on every floor or even near your room. I’d walk a mile to refill the water bottles multiple times a day. As far as the restaurants go. Olivine was great the first night I had it so I went again a couple days later and it was terrible. All the restaurants close by 9. Room service closed by 9 also. This place Nickel and dimes you for everything. I paid for an ocean view room and I had to bend over the balcony and look over a building to see the view. I asked to switch rooms to an actual ocean view. I was told that’s a deluxe ocean view. $100 more a night. Of course I did it. You want a beach lounger another 75$ for a half day. Other then the room situation and my other complaints, I have to say the grounds are absolutely beautiful. I hope they try to class it up a little for the price people are paying to stay there. I’d stay there again, but I would definitely want a huge discount if I did. If not I’d just go down to the Fairmont or Four seasons.

The pools are epic and amazing - but crowded. Not fun for kids who need 3’ for standing and splashing around - everything is 4’ or taller except for one small sandy wading area. The slides don’t open until 10 and close at 5 - for the money you pay to stay here they could staff them the entire time the pool is open. Pool beverage service is abhorrent - so slow and no one comes when they promise they will. Impossible to get a chair in the shade unless you are out there at 7am staking your spot out - once again for the cost of the resort can’t they put more umbrellas in?! Honestly it was downhill from the start - check in took over an hour of waiting in line - and zero apology or making up for it. It didn’t seem to be a one time issue either as many times when we went through the lobby there was a long line queued. When I stay at a 5* hotel I do not expect to wait that long - I’m paying for top notch service. I was expecting to be impressed with the property but in the end the only impressive part was the gym. Gorgeous and state of the art equipment. Housecleaning service was also lackluster - took 3x of calling them to properly make the sofa bed up (which by the way is hard as a rock) and they accidentally took a white dress shirt left on the bed one day and couldn’t find it when we alerted them. Would not return to this resort - I’m irritated for the money we paid that it felt like half that value if not even less.

Unfortunately the guest experience has gone way down at this property. Most of the people working were rude and aggressive to us. We felt so uncomfortable that we left the property and went to other public beaches. The pool wristbands are out of control and I wasn’t the only guest that had an issue with this. One towel per person and long lines made me feel like I booked an “all inclusive” which I can assure you we did not. They wouldn’t even give me towels for my kids who were SWIMMING unless they were in line with me. We booked a casita daily to avoid the search for a place to sit at the pool and the service was non existent. The price of everything has absolutely skyrocketed which I would be fine with if the service was there to match the cost. Service was what I would expect at an extended stay, not a 5 star resort. Management is blaming the service on not being able to hire good people due to the fires, but I see this as a management problem.

We stayed here for my daughter's birthday. The staff is so friendly ! Every night at dinner the staff wishes her a happy birthday. The room was very clean and had a beautiful view . The pools was great and you can walk right to the beach ! The views of the property were beautiful everywhere

Property was great for families with kids who want to enjoy an amazing pool and slide. The beach is across a walking path. Located in Waliea where the neighborhood is quiet and safe. The food choices and 24 hour store are nice. One criticism is there is no no self park so you have to wait for your car and at certain times the valet is backed up.

The grounds are beautiful, and there was something different and beautiful at every turn. Love that it is on the beach, and you can go from the beach to the pools very easily. Our room was amazing with amazing views! Loved being able to walk to get coffee and breakfast on property. The shops at Wailea were just a short walk away. We found lots of great snorkeling within just a few miles of the property as well. My only complaint would be that with the price of the hotel getting charged $65/night for parking is kind of a punch in the gut!

The hotel location is perfect. The beach and neighboring properties, plus local restaurants and shops are plentiful and there are many great choices. The service in the hotel and food was excellent. We had an issue with an upgrade but the hotel responded with the utmost level of professionalism. The hotel also booked a sunset cruise for us which was perfect with great views transportation to the boat and appetizers/drinks. As with any hotel during off season there was construction to better the hotel but overall it didn’t effect our experience overall. We will definitely be back.

Gorgeous beach, clean, comfy bed/room. Snorkel, scuba, kayak available on site. Five min walk to shops, restaurants, and market that offers grab-and-go sandwiches, etc. We started our visit with the grand Luau day of arrival. Great way to kick off trip.

Absolutely gorgeous hotel and we had a fabulous stay. You’ll read some reviews which talk about the building work but we really didn’t notice it. The only shame was that their best restaurant was closed but luckily there were lots of other good options. We’d love to return and would highly recommend.

My favorite Maui resort. One thing I was disappointed to see, Nobu took over the spot where the daily buffet breakfast was held. This is the best view at the resort and one of the main attractions people look forward to. The breakfast is held now at the lower Humuhumu restaurant. Same $60 price with no view. Grand Wailea, that was a huge mistake. Nobu should open the space for the morning breakfast. The prime view is closed all day. 😟

Fantastic resort. All staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Beautiful pool and beach. Rooms were great. Didn’t leverage restaurants as reviews were not stellar and far overpriced ($50 for a bowl of pasta?). Only negative is they felt understaffed. For example quick breakfast place to grab coffee, sandwich, etc was always busy with 10 people in line and took 30 mins. Poor staff their tried there best and super nice, but they needed more help as that’s a silly wait for coffee

The overall experience was very good. On arrival we were very disappointed to see that the “lei greeter” was no longer a thing at this property. The greeting and the lei were great ways to get us into the aloha frame of mind. They should consider bringing that back. Also, the registration used to offer refreshing cool water during check in. During the hurricane lala storm our sliding glass door would not seal. We had a very loud screeching all night. We finally had to open the door. The screeching stopped but then the storm noise was also loud. Sleeping was very difficult. Our next door neighbors did not have that noise problem. The gardens are very well maintained. The pools are very nice. It seems the water elevator has been broken for awhile. Elevator access to rooms in two towers were serviced by only one elevator. The other has been broken for weeks. We had long waits going up and down between the rooms, lobby, and pool area.
