A very nice hotel with friendly staff, but the amenities are lacking and the pool is teeny. And everything extra has a price. Chairs on the beach have to be rented, and there aren’t enough places by the pool. While your room will eventually be cleaned by very nice staff, it may not be until very late in the day— they need more staff. The location is nice but I’m left feeling it wasn’t worth the price.

Had a great stay at the Royal Hawaiian. Great amenities and central location. The staff were all friendly and housekeeping was great. The only slight negatives were no room service (but plenty of food options nearby) and the very soft pillows with little support (more of a personal preference). Overall, I would recommend staying here.

Absolutely the best hotel experience in Waikiki! The spa staff was exceptional! Morning meditation, historical tours and shops staff are friendly and helpful. The valet had our taxi in less than five minutes and the housekeeping staff had our room looking fresh and tidy every day! The Mai Tai Bar has delicious snack and beverage choices and we enjoyed treats at the RH Bakery! Worth every penny!

I would be hard pressed to stay anywhere on Waikiki, other than the Royal Hawaiian. This is a marvelous hotel. There are two walking paths to the Royal Hawaiian shopping center. One goes straight to the food court, which is awesome! The people at this hotel are beyond marvelous. I think I could write an essay on how wonderful this hotel is, in addition to the people who work here. The pools are marvelous! This hotel shares a pool with slides at the Sheraton. The Mai Tai bar and bakery are wonderful. The shopping is great, and there is quite a bit of shopping at the Sheraton next door.

We loved the Royal Hawaiian. It was a calm oasis in the middle of Waikiki once you were on the property. Love the banyan trees and rockers and historic atmosphere. Our bed was very soft and comfortable and our ocean front view was amazing. We rented beach chairs for the day and had an amazing time enjoying the beach. Would recommend!

Nice staff, beautiful room, love the Mai Tai Bar and the 5 course meal at Azure. Tough to get a chair at the pool because the chairs are always covered in towels with very few people actually there at the pool.

The hotel is in a great location and while nothing terrible happened, don’t expect a 4 or 5 star resort as this is not it. The hotel and amenities are dated, there is no room service and basic requests were unable to accommodate ( eg quoted a charge of $50 to have a microwave to sterilize my infants bottles, could not arrange surf rental on our behalf). Overall, the staff we encountered were friendly but frankly it just didn’t seem ‘worth it’. We liked the little bakery in the morning for a muffin and a coffee but otherwise ventured off site for meals. The pool is small and the lounge chairs limited and uncomfortable (thing 90s banded loungers). Food by the pool was good. Spent most of our time eating at the Moana Surf Rider which was actually cheaper than the Royal Hawaiian and overall a better hotel in my opinion.

I was very disappointed with the level of service and overall cleanliness during our stay. Room smelt very musty, and blinds were filthy. Unfortunately, this experience has left a negative impression, and I would not choose to stay at the Royal Hawaiian again.

We liked the serene and natural aspects of the grounds and lobby. The historical room we occupied needed maintenance, deep cleaning and electrical updating. Regular coffee was unavailable in-room during the second half of our stay. The maids seemed to be begging for undeserved tips.

Our room was infested with bedbugs. I woke up with approximately 75 bug bites and my partner had 40-50 bites. The hotel sent us to urgent care and the doctor diagnosed the bites as bed bug bites! They moved us to another room and tried to tell us it was mosquitoes. The hotel paid for the doctor visit and comped us 2 night’s lodging, which was the bare minimum of what they should have done.

I'm disappointed to report that the property is not being maintained. I've visited three times, and during my most recent stay, I noticed numerous damaged items and signs of wear and tear. This hotel no longer meets the standards of luxury that I expected. The furnishings and decor are in dire need of updates, and the balcony feels outdated, resembling any average hotel rather than a premium experience. Unfortunately, I won’t be returning.

The Good-Beautiful grounds and hotel. Extremely comfortable beds. Fantastic location. The Bad-Lobby furniture was stained and looked dirty. The room furniture was very worn. The extra daily “entertainment “ fee was a mystery as to what it was for. Requested a late checkout but that was an additional $200.00 Nice hotel but we felt it was overpriced and at best a 4 star

I stayed at the Royal Hawaiian expecting a luxury experience aligned with Marriott’s standards, but what I encountered was shocking. The hotel is dirty, extremely dated, and poorly maintained. The room had broken furniture, a malfunctioning shower head, drawers that wouldn’t open, and an overall sense of neglect. The carpet was filthy, and to make matters worse, cockroaches made an appearance. There is no room service, which is baffling for a property that markets itself as a high-end resort. The entire operation felt badly managed, but staff were nice but they can't do much. Marriott should be ashamed to present this property as part of its luxury portfolio. Immaculate! Spacious! Comfortable! Although the furniture is old it is still relatively comfortable and a 3 seat sofa was much appreciated. The two double beds in the suite in the old part of the Royal Hawaiian were ever so comfortable. The bathroom is elegant and classic. The essence of history is apparent.

We loved the grounds. Beautiful historic hotel with a great staff. Everyone was friendly and accommodating. The balcony in the tower over the pool and ocean was perfect for us. At night we heard the ocean waves instead of street noise. That was awesome. Would have liked another option on site for dinner or a larger menu at the bar.

Resort is beautiful. Staff are fabulous - so friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious and Ned was very comfortable. However, our aircon was very noisy so we couldn’t hear the TV or have it on at night. Everything else was wonderful.

We upgraded to the Mailani Tower to ocean front rooms and we did not regret it. We spent so much time enjoying the patio. Especially, in the mornings and evenings. The hotel itself is beautiful. It is centrally located to so many shops and places to eat. We didn’t even rent a car. We took the trolley, Uber or walked everywhere.

Lovely historic hotel. Staff are really great. Beautiful surroundings. Perfect location. The historic building does not have balconies and many rooms face the courtyard/ entrance and does not feel that special. Could be any hotel. We asked for an upgrade ($707, incl fees and taxes for 4 nights, added to the original price) and was moved to the Mailani tower, which was incredible. Perfect and spacious balcony with table, chairs and a couch. And incredible views. Daily yoga class was really good and aqua Zumba a new and really fun experience. Breakfast was pretty basic, but finez It was busy, so we had to wait 15-20 min every day to be seated. We had a nice and enjoyable vacation but I do think I’d pick a cheaper hotel next time.

We stayed for two nights before flying back home from Kauai. We stayed in the Meilani tower, and our view was unbeatable. The room itself was very small for my husband, almost four year old and I but the location was convenient. We were situated by the elevators so it was quite loud.

The historic room was in very good condition. The housekeeper was very friendly and made me feel welcome. The gardens and peaceful environment is wonderful. The breakfast restaurant is extremely expensive and just okay. I really missed having a balcony to sit out on and also for drying bathing suits. The comes with a huge nice quality tv, however the internet speed was so slow that the tv was unusable. Overall I enjoyed my stay :)

Longtime Loyal Guest — Extremely Disappointed I have been traveling to Hawaii and staying at the Royal Hawaiian for over 25 years, usually for 10 days or more each visit. I’ve always loved this property — until now. This time, we booked through Expedia to get a better rate after speaking with Bonvoy directly and finding their prices unreasonably high. Unfortunately, from the moment we arrived, it was obvious we were being treated differently because we didn’t book directly through the hotel or Bonvoy. We were rushed, made to feel unwelcome, and overall treated like second-class guests. Adding to the disappointment, we paid extra for an oceanfront room — but ended up with a view mostly blocked by palm trees. When we addressed the issue, there was no urgency, no apology, and no attempt to correct the situation. This property used to feel magical, filled with genuine warmth and aloha. Now it feels cold, corporate, and transactional. As a loyal guest who has chosen the Royal Hawaiian for decades, it’s heartbreaking to see how far the experience has fallen. Booking through Expedia should not mean you get treated differently — but sadly, that was our experience.

Paid for a deluxe suite with an ocean view… was given a suite on the second floor with a view of palm fronds obscuring the entire ocean view. Requested a higher floor and was told that they had no other rooms available in the historic building. After living in Hawaii for over 20 years, this turned out to be the worst staycation experience ever. The woman who checked us in, was cold and unwelcoming. Waikiki has certainly lost its previous quality of service, while it has gotten even more expensive. Maybe okay, if you’re a once in a lifetime visitor to Hawaii, but we know better and this is not the way we wanted to spend our staycation. If you’re a local, go somewhere else, if you’re a visitor, good luck. Told us we had to check out at 1pm, even though we had their email that said we could check out at 2pm, because we were Gold Elite level Bonvoy members. But the manager wouldn’t even fulfill the basic benefits of our Bonvoy membership status. Showed him the email and he said he could only do 1pm, and that was after questioning who had sent me the email. Finally, it was the most uncomfortable bed we ever slept in. Both our backs were hurting after this stay.

The check in ladies were wonderful and upgraded us from a historic wing room to an ocean view suite which we very much loved and appreciated. Your whole staff were friendly and so helpful, it added a lot to our wonderful stay with you. We also enjoyed our bottle decorating class with Risa, what a treasure she is!

I’m NOT sure if Expedia was aware but the Royal Hawaiian was aware of a strike that was gonna take place 9/1/24 the day we arrived. They didn’t notify me to warn me or give me the option to change or cancel my trip which was horrible the first few days. No housekeeping, no restaurants were open, no room service, my check-in was suppose to be at 3pm, got the keys to the room at 6pm due to the strike. We had to take down our own trash, there was a stained pillow in our room, no towels, no bath robes. All of this is only major due to the price I paid and what my expectations were since I had just been here in July and my experience then was Amazing. The strike had come to an agreement halfway through our vacation and it got better but I Wish it would of been the same the second time around

Property right on the strip near all the shopping. East beach access but not the nicest beach on Honolulu. Staff very nice and welcoming, willing to go above and beyond to help out. I would recommend staying here if you are there for shopping and easy access to entertainment.

You can't beat the location if you're looking to be in the liveliness of Waikiki. Grounds are beautiful, staff was very accommodating and friendly easy to walk to all the sights, shopping, and restaurants Waikiki has to offer. Oceanfront is amazing, pool is quiet small, but who needs the pool when you have the beautiful beach.

This is a wonderful historic hotel in the heart of Waikiki. Hotel is elegant, welcoming, and expertly run. Staff is friendly and helpful. Grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Beach access is super easy and close. Shopping and dining are a short walk away. The rooms are comfortable with high ceilings and luxurious beds. The only flaw is the shower, water temperature oscillates from almost too cold to almost too hot and back again. Still, a wonderful experience not to be missed.

We LOVE this hotel. This was our 7th time staying here, and we will continue to stay there well into the future. From the minute you get there, you are treated with respect and like family (ohana). The grounds are immaculately maintained and there are flowers and good scents around every corner. I will note - prices are outrageous. Drinks at the Mai Tai bar are great, but service is a little slow and very pricey. We ate at Azure for breakfast and it was a GREAT experience. Elaine, our server, was amazing and made it that much better. If you can swing it, get a beach umbrella. It gives you guaranteed shade and a place to sit and that is priceless. The hotel is located in a prime spot. Great breach, but also right in the middle of the city. You can walk anywhere. There are plenty of spots to shop and eat within walking distance. Don't be afraid to get off the main street and try a little restaurant and offers local food. Well worth it. Royal Hawaiian - we can't wait to come back next year.

The property cleanliness, history and all of the staff are fantastic. If you have a family member with celiacs or are gluten free, the food options in Waikiki are VERY few. The resort has GF toast. That’s it. The dinner option at the resort is a 5 course set menu that wasn’t very appealing but incredibly expensive. We ended up eating dinner at the same restaurant four out of six nights (very good Thai restaurant). Most of our meals were what we could put together at an ABC store (convenience store). There’s one on every block doing a banner business selling pre-packaged food. For us: One and done for Hawaii.

The hotel is steeped in history and character and the ambience makes for a relaxing stay. The location is perfect. It manages to combine the convenience of being right in the heart of Waikiki with the tranquility of a secluded hotel. But for a hotel that charges a premium I expect everything in the hotel to be to a high standard. Two things that stopped us from giving the hotel 5 stars were the inadequate gym amenity (small and dated equipment), and the fact that you are then charged to use their beach umbrellas. That was a disappointment. Overall though, it was a great experience to stay at this hotel.
