The property has 5 star curb appeal, lobby looks great and the staff especially the pool house team were fantastic, however our room was dated, poorly appointed, which I understand will be addressed with a refurbishing program. The pool area is in urgent need of attention, the loungers are uncomfortable and in need of replacement, the whole area needs a little TLC. Pricing for the cabanas and sun loungers on the beach is a little pricey. That said, overall we enjoyed our stay at the Moana and will definitely return!

Like the location and beach. Overall a good place. Only down side was the 9-5 jack hammering or drilling of the out side room decks. This was noisy. All the patios/decks from the rooms were sealed. Could not go out or dry your cloths on the balcony or let fresh air in. Wish they (Surfrider) told me before, I would have booked another section. Also, I booked a pool cabana and heard that hammering away all day instead of the ocean, not happy about that. I booked through a 3rd party so never got notified about the construction. Surfrider did give some daily credit and partial ocean view upgrade, just wish they would of told me how loud it was going to be and that the decks would be sealed.

Nice property but the valet service along with the "resort fee" is a joke. Valet service takes at least 25 minutes to bring you your car and they don't have another parking option so you're stuck paying $65 a day!!!!!!

Great location on the Waikiki beach. Our room was in the City Tour facing the street. You can hear the street noise (ie cars, street artists). So ask to be away from the street. Rooms are good but expect less outdated for a 5* hotel. The part that made me mark lower than I thought was because that you need to pay for chairs and umbrella at 100$ a day, might as well go to the Ritz.

It was the worst valet parking experience I have ever had. It took over an hour every day for a week that I was there to park. They require you to call 20 minutes before for the car and yet it takes over an hour to even get it to the driveway. Management is horrible about it. It is not worth the $65 they charge daily. We cancelled many activities because of this issue.

The hotel is historic and the lobby is beautiful. The rooms are nice and the beds are comfortable. My complaint is the pool area is so small and rundown. There are not nearly enough chairs and umbrellas for the guests. We had to wake up at 6:30 to get a chair for the day. The beach did not disappoint but it’s very expensive to rent beach chairs so be prepared.

Perfect location near the International Marketplace and Royal Hawaiian Center. With direct access to the beach, it's a great place to stay. Unfortunately, the pool area is small. It's a shame that guests selfishly reserve pool chairs early in the morning. If you wander down after 8:00am, you are unlikely to find a lounge chair. Best bet is to reserve a pool cabana or beach chair the day before. Otherwise, staff is friendly and attentive. Overall, it was an enjoyable stay. Mahalo Moana Surfrider!

Great hotel, but Waikiki is a busy and noisy area. The hotel has grown over the years, so to have a sunbed you need to take part in the early morning race, not my preference for a good holiday.

Was thrilled to be there with the exception that carpets stained white socks in our room within 1 hour - gross. TV didn’t work at end on 10 day stay, shower door and patio door kept sliding off the tracks, we could hear electrical buzzing as if something is shorting out, desk light started buzzing and flickering, closet doors appear to have water damage from a flood? On third floor, bathroom shower temperamental, diamond wing appears as if it’s out of the 80’s The whole diamond wing is in desperate need of renovation - I’ve seen motel 5’s in better condition Staff were excellent, scenery amazing, shopping steps away but the number of homeless surrounding the hotel and beach let us concerned with our families safety

Great room (tower), view of ocean and Diamond Head. Room was clean and quiet. Housekeeping staff were fantastic. Everything we needed was in walking distance. Beach Bar is a favourite spot for a drink and light meal. Bar staff were excellent. Overall great place to stay. Will definitely stay here again.

I was informed of the guest room remodel commencing in early October 2024 only after I booked my nonrefundable stay at Moana Surfrider. There was construction noise by day. There was sound transfer of auto-door closers slamming shut, voices in adjacent rooms, babies crying across the hall, and foot traffic above by night. The hotel room was mediocre with dated finishes and grime throughout the bathroom. The mini-fridge either froze my dairy products or spoiled them for not functioning properly.

Rooms clean, the breakfast buffet was delicious and they had tons of food to choose from. The staff super friendly always had a smile on their faces. Location was perfect just by the water. I will definitely stay there in the future. Recommend the Veranda tea time.

The most amazing view from our oceanfront room. Room service / daily cleaning was pretty poor given the standard of the hotel and cost of the stay - you definitely pay for the view and not the room. Great facilities and entertainment at the hotel. Room itself was quite dated.

We upgraded to an ocean view and paid $125 per night more the room next class I think up at 6 AM and the world so thin and the doors are big opening on the bottom that you could hear them so clearly the four nights that we stayed there had to wake up at 6 AM

The property location is great, the beach is beautiful. We ate at the beach bar and it was mediocre. We just got a basic room and it was just that, basic- small. But staff did a great job coming and restocking every day. The traffic and city noise was extremely loud I our room regardless of having all windows closed up. The lobby is nice to relax and enjoy a coffee.

It was a beautiful resort but they were doing a renovation so it was really loud all day. Also the balconies are locked in the tower so you don’t get fresh sea air that i was so looking forward to… We were out and about but i felt sad for the families that spent a lot of money to relax by the pool to hear jack hammering all day. Be careful NOT to stay on the street side. Bars are raging until past 1 and you wake to the garbage trucks really early. At first they wouldn’t move us but then they did away from the street and once we moved it was a much better experience. Very convenient to everything. We rented a car from sixt and they were great.

We stayed here in 2021 for our 10th anniversary and came back this year for our anniversary again and got a balcony room. Unfortunately, the balcony was closed due to repair work being done and that was pretty disappointing. The internet was also not very good, and I had to use my phone's mobile hotspot to get connected most of the time. We still had a great trip, and we will be back because we love the resort, so hopefully next time those fixes have been completed.

The staff was SO kind and knowledgeable. Service was always quick. The view of the beach from the pool and poolside bar are stunning, and they are only a few steps away from the shoreline. Shopping is everywhere nearby.

This was by far one of the worst hotel stays I’ve ever had. The room felt like a cramped 5x5 box, no space to move around at all. It was dark, smelled musty, and our “view” was literally of a construction zone on another part of the hotel. The pool is outdated and uninviting, but we figured we’d try to enjoy the sun anyway. We sat there for hours and not once did anyone offer us a drink or food menu. Eventually we got so hungry we brought in some snacks, only to be told we weren’t allowed to have outside food. Amazing how staff can suddenly appear to enforce rules but not to actually help guests. The staff were unfriendly and unhelpful the entire time. Every question felt like a bother to them. On top of that, everything is overpriced for what you’re getting. Save your money and stay somewhere else.

This was our third stay at the Moana, but unfortunately, it will be our last. It feels as though the spirit and charm that once defined the hotel have been lost. The staff were noticeably unfriendly and hard to find, and there were very few umbrellas or cabanas available for rent. We were also disappointed to be woken one morning at 7:00 a.m. by construction noise and the next at 6:30 a.m. by fire alarm testing. Ironically, the only real peace we found during our stay was when we escaped to the North Shore for the day. When we raised our concerns at the front desk, we were told that nothing could be done. We requested a later checkout to help accommodate our long, late flight home, but were told that wasn’t possible—despite the fact that we had been flexible with all the ongoing renovations. To make matters worse, the front desk staff pointed out that “your room will double in price by next year,” which only added to our frustration. Throughout our stay, we felt overlooked and unappreciated, despite the price we paid to be there. Speaking with other guests, we realized we weren’t alone in feeling this way. We also booked through a third party (Expedia), and unfortunately, it seemed we were treated differently because of that. Overall, this stay confirmed that our time at this property has come to an end. The ohana and magic that once set the Moana apart are gone.

The Moana is a wonderful resort that caters to families, couples, and anyone wanting a welcoming stay. There were some hiccups, however the staff was quick to fix. We arrived late so we were not certain about logistics as they are remodeling parts of the hotels. The next day we realized that we had the wrong room as we asked for a king and were given a queen/full. We spoke with Chad the room services manager who listened and thanked us for all our feedback. He was quick to find a room- which was significantly nicer! I DEFINITELY recommend you stay in the main tower and spend a little extra on a balconied ocean view! . I felt bad because I felt we were “complaining”, but Chad was genuinely interested in our stay - you rarely get service like this anymore, trust me, we travel at least three-four months all around Europe and Asia for business, and this was EXCEPTIONAL service! The pool staff was ALWAYS kind and helpful; the lady at the snack stand by the pool was SO SWEET!! The restaurant staff AND FOOD was really good! Will you pay a little extra, sure, HOWEVER you will be paying a little extra, or more, all over the island- btw- did I mention the food was plentiful and very tasty! Be careful though, the order of edamame could easily feed five!! The “bell hops” helped us get a cab, which was $20 less than uber and our driver was very kind. So, all in all, we had a wonderfully relaxing week and we are looking forward to bringing our sons and their wives next time.

The property has a great location, right on the beach! The staff is amazing! My son got a jelly fish sting. The staff went out of their way to make him feel better, he was surprised in our room with balloons, Hawaiian cookies, fudge, and breakfast vouchers. It made his day. My recent stay at the Moana Surfrider Hotel was unfortunately marred by numerous issues, particularly with customer service. The hotel, while historic and charming in appearance, is quite outdated. Our initial room had several problems: the toilet wasn’t functioning properly, the phone was inoperable, and the bathtub was clogged, causing water to accumulate during showers. Midway through our stay, construction began at the hotel, starting at 9 AM and ending at 5 PM daily, resulting in significant noise disruptions. Additionally, due to falling balconies, all balconies were closed for safety reasons. This completely undermined the purpose of our oceanview room, as we couldn’t enjoy the view or open the balcony doors. Although we managed to negotiate a move to a higher floor, the new room still had similar issues. The overall customer service was poor, with the hotel charging excessively for any requests. For instance, a request for a late check-out by just one hour was met with a $75 charge. The breakfast was another disappointment. The watermelons were mushy, and the food was generally not fresh, despite the $60 per person price tag. Given the reputation of Westin Hotels, the standards at Moana Surfrider were shockingly low. In conclusion, I would not recommend the Moana Surfrider Hotel for your stay in Oahu. The level of service and the quality of the facilities do not justify the cost, and it could potentially ruin your vacation. There are much better options available

Beautiful property with excellent location to restaurants, shops, and the beach. It was very noisy and busy so if you’re looking for something calm and quiet, this is not the place. The room was very small but clean and comfortable.

The Moana Surfrider cannot be beat for its location, historical character, ambience, and views. The staff are friendly and helpful. Make sure to rent an umbrella or cabana and spend the day feeling pampered while enjoying the sand and surf. This hotel made our first visit to Hawaii a memorable one - for all of the right reasons! We hope to be back.

Beautiful property, great - convenient location. But the property had a lot of bacon, ham and pork breakfast choices for buffet, which wasn’t great for those not eating pork due to religious or observed beliefs. Wish they offered other alternatives/options as well - especially since the breakfast buffet was very expensive

I was amazed at how beautiful this hotel is! Truly THE place to stay in Waikiki. And the service is incredible. Also would recommend breakfast; you can watch the sunrise mere feet from the water.

We loved our stay at the Surfrider. We felt right at home, even in a busy area. The property was always clean and right on the beach. We could always get something to eat and drink quickly and it was delicious. Live music everyday, was great. We had our 2.5 year old with us and they provided a crib. We will definitely be staying here again.

The hotel has the perfect location. The food and service was excellent. Perhaps a little pricey but would certainly stay again. Note the pool is a little on the small side. The beds were super comfortable and the view of Diamonds Head and the beach were amazing!

Horrible check in — would not take our car — had to drive for 1.5 hours through 2 public garages to fight to find a spot and pay $60 for overnight parking. Further, the gentleman in the valet was very rude and had difficulty communicating. Still further, the check in for the room was slow, and they automatically and inappropriately “upgraded” (not an upgrade ) us to the tower when I had purposefully booked rooms in the main building , but since I was parking the car while my family checked in they did not know any better. It was not a good experience.
