Socrates Hotel

The room was small and the Bath room was the smallest ever seen, The toilette uncomfortable due limited space to even turn around and a small wash basin and shower adjoining. The floor outside gets wet since shower door does not close well. Since rooms are not cleaned daily had to use wet rug till check out. There was no kettle or cups to make a warm drink. The restaurant in location run down and closed. My husband was sick while there and got worse since no warm water to make medicine and cups. When it would have been nice if we were informed as at checking as I inquired hot water kettle and was informed no kettle in the room. Later next day learnt that hot water could be given. We had a very uncomfortable stay there. No descent restaurant around with nice food even. There was a nice cafe with many coffee types down the road but saw it while on the way to airport. Hotel had not much info.

The good; - Great access to Larissa Metro - Near 2 large supermarkets - Fairly quiet - Supplied baby cot was excellent - Linen was clean and new towels were given daily - Hotel arranged a taxi to the airport and it was reasonable (€48 on a Sunday) - Local coffee place is excellent The bad; - Rooms had no basic amenities (kettle, cups, tea/coffee) - Shower flooded the (micro) bathroom floor when used - Room layout makes having a baby cot awkward and cramped - Wifi coverage is poor, and internet speed is not fast enough for even Youtube streaming. The ugly; - Restaurant closed in 2022/23, with no plans to re-open. Website still shows this as functioning - ITS NOT! - Bed mattresses are made of stone and linen is old a frayed - Hotel has a single kettle for boiling water. - There is no bar, only a vending machine - It's a 30 to 45 minute walk to the centre, 15 by taxi or 10 on the Metro. I would not walk it even in the cooler months. While Socrates may once have been a good choice, now I would only stay here as a last resort. It's dated, has no facilities or amenities, and is not near to the centre where the good restaurants and cafe;s are. The hotel two doors down would be a better stay if you wanted to be in this area specifically.

I picked this hotel only because it's conveniently located near Athens Train Station. If you want to stay near popular tourist spots like Acropolis or Plaka, then this is not a good choice as there's nothing exciting near the hotel. Also breakfast is not offered at the moment and room and bathroom comfort is just average and shoukd be rated as a 2-star hotel.

Damp on walls and bathroom shower a bit dangerous getting in and out. Hotel has no bar or restaurant. Night staff were very helpful in particular Vasilis.

Je suis navrée mais je ne reviendrai plus dans cet établissement...chambre sur boulevard avec des fenêtres qui ne ferment absolument pas ou le bruit passe mais le vent aussi qui siffle....une horreur pour dormir...la climatisation qui coule sur le sol et pour couronner le tout on vous parle de petit déjeuner ou de restaurant NON IL EST FERME DEPUIS BIEN LONGTEMPS....je vais mettre une etoile pour la proximité du metro.....DOMMAGE

Had a nice stay rooms were clean and tidy

La chambre ne correspondait pas aux photos, la salle de bain était vétuste et la douche était très étroite! Le ménage n’était pas effectué tous les jours et il était mal fait. Il en est de même pour les serviettes qui n’étaient pas changées tous les jours. Il y avait également du bruit, la couette était très vieille et n’était pas du tout chaude (elle ressemblait au couvre-lit). Tout avait l’air vieux et doit être rénové…bref de tous les hôtels où je suis allée, il s’agit du moins bon…

Room smelled like smoke, not very clean. Water stays on the floor from the bathroom. Not enough hot water. It did have a good location.

The bathroom was very old and the shower very rusty. We were there only for 1 night, next to the train station.

Pros: Central location (right near Larissa station) and great AC. Staff very nice. Cons: One bed cover had lipstick/makeup stain and cigarette burn. Also had ants.

Property was OK. The first night we saw a small cockroach in our room. The bathroom was tiny, especially the shower. Smokers and non-smokers are put in rooms next to one another, so all rooms are smoke filled. Location is very convenient with the Larissa Metro and suburban railway station just two minutes away. We didn't need a car. Most tour services buses pick up from Larissa. Overall we were satisfied.

The hotel room was as cold as a freezer; there was no central heating, and the air condition wasn’t working either. Instead of a proper blanket, we were given a thin and worn-out duvet. We visited at the end of December and couldn’t sleep all night because we were freezing. The sheets and towels are extremely old and faded, likely never replaced since the hotel first opened. The bathroom is so outdated and gives off such a dirty impression that we couldn’t even bring ourselves to use it or take a shower. Conditions are incompatible with life! We will never visit this place again!

Very clean hotel

A good cheap hotel close to Larissa/athens train station. Its beds are a bit hard and bathroom is a bit small but the aircon worked for us and it was cheap. One of the receptionists- Stefan was really nice! If you want a cheap place in a good travel location without a hefty price tag then this is the place for you!

Good location next to subway station. Bed was like sleeping on a board

Room was comfortable and great value for money. Staff friendly and helpful. My only negative is the wifi. Signal strength was most times very weak and affects my remote work.

The two beds were pushed together to make a double but there was no layer on top so it was very uncomfortable, the mattress was super thin and so were the pillows. The place was very outdated. staff were friendly though

New room was much bigger and better shower size wear super tiny Internet speed was OK but choppy shower water just was warm and the size of TV was so small.

The hotel is 5 min walking to the metro. Value for money. Only negative point was, the shower cubicals were too small and one cubical was leaking water to the toilet floor making it wet all the time after a shower. We were 4 persons in two combined room with two separate bathrooms.

But for location and convenience if you are travelling by train it is a great stay. A short 20-30 minute stroll into central Athens, although if walking at night stick to the main roads.

Installations are old style, bathroom so small, air conditioning takes long to refresh the room. It's OK in general only for sleeping. Convenient YES because is close to the Train and metro stations, as well is all walkable to restaurants and mini-market.

Very clean, nice area to stay. Really enjoyed the room with our private balcony. Service was great. The owner is very easy to contact.

Was in a "jam". Late at night, inspite of a full occupancy, management found something for me. Big thumbs up!

Not get the two bed bedroom, front desk person name Takis was to rude when I asked for it, like he owns the place wouldn't recommended.

Morning and night reception staff were helpful and friendly. Afternoon to evenning guy who worked at the reception was not friendly at all. A few times I said hi as I come and go and he didn’t say hi or looked at me. Around 3 am someone was trying to unlock my room door. Somehow this stranger guy unlocked the door and stepped inside of my room. I was awake luckly and shouted at him to get out. He said sorry and left my room. I could’t sleep the rest of the night. I don’t understand how his key opens my door. I will not go back to this hotel. I didn’t feel safe after this incident.

This place itself was nice, however, the area was sketchy at best. It’s not that hotels fault that public transit is absolute garbage, but it should be noted because it is super close to the central train terminal. So you might think that’s helpful for getting around. It’s not. If you’re adventurous enough, I recommend renting a car, using a good maps system, and paying for insurance. The people who ran this hotel were super nice, I need to reiterate this, because it seems like I didn’t like the overall stay. They were great

The property was great but the receptionist, Sydney, made us feel so welcomed and gave great recommendations! In addition, she was helpful in answering our questions, reserving taxis, and providing great customer service.

it is close to the metro station, easy to get to from airport. Staff is quite friendly.

Καθαρό και άνετο δωμάτιο, το μπάνιο χρήζει ανακαίνησης. Το προσωπικό εξυπηρετικό. Η περιοχή είναι βολική, δίπλα στο Σταθμό Λαρίσης και σε μετρό, αλλά θέλει προσοχή γιατί κυκλοφορούν ύποπτα άτομα για κλοπές.

Excellent location to walk to train station. Footpath suitcase friendly👍. Arriving from airport, 2 stops after Synagma Square you just walk across the road to Socrates Hotel. We made a mistake and got off at Synagma square then needed a taxi, costing an extra 12 euros that wouldn’t have been necessary. We would definitely stay there again for the extreme convenience. We also just walked across to the station to go to Meteora. A beautiful petrol station around the corner with beautiful food and drinks was fantastic. Thank you Vangeli

Ideal for one night stay almost opposite train station. Search “largo pizza” for lovely pizza restaurant round corner from here.
