Macdonald New Blossoms Hotel, Chester

The hotel had a lovely Christmas tree and we were greeted by a friendly receptionist. Our room was a nice shape and cosy, as you'd expect for a standard room. It was a bit chilly and we struggled to get it warm. The towel rail in the bathroom did not work and the tea and coffee privided was a bit odd- 5 small milks and one small packet of biscuits between the two of us.Our room was serviced and the bed made, as expected. Used glasses were not removed or replaced and still no more biscuits. We just felt that there wasn't much care. We had an email to say we could use the leisure facilities only to be told , by the barman, that 'we don't have any! People think theres a golf course and we don't even have a snooker table!' I feel this sums it up wuite well.

When we arrived on Thursday night we were informed their Restaurant was no longer open of an evening and breakfast was only served between 7.30 and 09.00. The bar is apparently closed on a Thursday evening although not mentioned on there website. Thats why in my opinion this is closer to a motel than a hotel

decor was tired and dated, very long walk to the bedroom with poor signage, some smells along the corridor. Stained sealant around bathroom appliances. very poor selection of drinks in the bar which was not attended at all times.

Having been born and brought up in Chester I thought it might be nice to stay at the Blossoms ! Breakfast average to poor Noises from next door at the Marlborough who have a licence to 4 am ! Looking forward to dining - sorry there is no restaurant Overall all disappointing

Looking for a midweek overnight stay via Hotels. Com. Special offer of £45 for a standard king room. Lovely magestic hotel upon entering. Our room was huge, clean and warm. Furnishings are a little tired but it certainly didn't detract from our stay. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Would certainly stay again. Central location. One word of advice. Parking at the Grosvenor car park is advertised at £10 for 24 hours. We arrived at 6.30pm and left at 2.30pm the next day and the charge was £14. This is triggered as the parking is measured between 6pm to 2am. So you need to arrive before 6pm to qualify for the 24 hour rate (from our reckoning).

Check in was great, staff helpful and kept our luggage safe until we could check in at the correct time. However, the room had a terrible outlook, overlooking a low wall that had public convenience tiles on it, with large holes. We went for a nightcap in the bar, but it had no Baileys and no brandy. Also, the coffee machine was not in operation, although the barman did get us some hot water and coffee sachets, which we didn't pay for as this was avaliable in our room. The hotel is in a fabulous location for shopping and viewing locations, but let down by the above.

Room decor in need of refurbishment. The net curtains were ripped, stained carpet and no TV remote. The bar should be closed. VERY poorly stocked and VERY EXPENSIVE, £35 for 2 drinks. We have stayed at the hotel a number of times as it’s location is good but feel this was our last.

Good location, terrible parking... rooms are incredibly dated, bathrooms are awful, beds uncomfortable.. friendly staff, decent breakfast.

Room was dirty in need of total refurb supposed to have been delux suite hate to think what standard rooms were like. Lots of mould filthy internal widow sills. Stains on lamp shades, walls, around shower. Please don’t book to stay at this awful hotel

Room dated, cracked tiles in bathroom, mould in bedroom and bathroom, kettle full of limescale, think dust on light fittings. Staff good and good location

Hotel is tired and unclean- dust and cobwebs. Dirty corridor carpets. Dusty rooms

Bedroom was very dusty in areas especially behind the chair and a paper towel was screwed up in the corner. Lamp shades full of dust and one of the shades had a stain on it which looked like blood. The other shade was ripped. Bath mat had a large dark stain on it too. We were moved to another room for the second night which was a ‘deluxe suite’. The shades still very dusty with dirty marks. The chest of drawers were dusty with some hairs as well in the drawers.

Room Cleanliness: The room was in an unacceptable condition. There was a large, unsightly stain on the carpet beside the bed, the mattress had a prominent red stain, the bathroom ceiling was blackened—presumably due to condensation or mould—and the shower only produced cold water. Noise Levels: Excessive noise from downstairs persisted throughout the night, making it extremely difficult to rest. Staff Service: There was no staff presence at the front desk when assistance was needed. Additionally, the dedicated phone line for the Duty Manager went straight to voicemail, leaving no way to escalate concerns. Breakfast Experience: The breakfast service was chaotic. The chef was unable to fulfil orders, the food that was eventually served was undercooked, and the waiting staff were left to manage a high volume of complaints from other dissatisfied guests.

Spotless room, nice staff

Bathroom was grubby sadly, bundle of fluff and hair behind door and door itself was filthy around handle. Shower water would not drain away, probably blocked with hair and gunge. One of the two bulbs was out/blown which added to gloom. There was a faulty wall socket in the main room which we did not use as afraid to. Pity really as room 212 was otherwise nice. Unable to add photos on this review, tried but unable.

Quite disappointed with our stay. The room was really dusty. The cold tap ran hot. There were two holders over the bath presumably for shower gel and shampoo, one was broken. The shampoo was attached to the hand basin and you couldn't reach it from the shower. We had to ask for tea/coffee on 2 occasions. The corridor wasn't hoovered during our stay. We were room only so cannot comment on the food. The beds were really comfortable.

The price was good for a Sunday night stay. The room was in need of some TLC. The air con unit wasn't sufficient and in recent temperatures we didn't sleep at all. The room was like an oven.

We requested a quiet room! and had one nearest to night-club ,which was still going at 6 AM very loud music, room and facilities very tired, property needs a refit. All windows broken / stuck closed AC very ineffective would not stay here again.

Hotel was great if a little dated and in need of a little maintance. The room was clean and comfortable but thre were some chips in the bath enamel and a broken window pane in the historic window. Staff were great. Hotel met all my needs comfy and central

Hotel is in a great location, very central and the staff were helpful and friendly. The room was clean, we booked king size and the bed was very comfortable. Air conditioning unit not very powerful although a desk top fan was provided which we needed as the windows are sealed shut and it was warm weather. The bathroom is in desperate need of maintenance . Shower fitting is hanging from the wall, extractor fan not working, shower water not draining away - drain is obviously blocked. Breakfast sadly mediocre, no seasonal fruit or yogurt provided (despite being on the menu). So I asked for some and the waitress went to see if they had any - just a watermelon was sliced up and served. Coffee was not nice, it was weak and tasted like cheap instant stuff. The cooked breakfast was nice but no black pudding available despite being listed on the menu.

Sealed windows meant totally dependent on air conditioning that didn’t work properly. In the heavy temperatures this made for a very uncomfortable nights sleep.

Great location. Small room with no view, A/c units directly outside the frosted window. Room was very warm, so had to open window and use fan (shame about the ugly view). Room was ok, dated decor but clean. Front desk staff were very pleasant.

Suite was good size, but was very warm despite having windows being open (-3 outside) radiators weren’t on so just the general temperature of the room. Bed sank into the middle but was comfortable on the whole. Room decor was fine, if not a little tired could probably do with modernising. Minor blemishes around the room were noticeable, caps on taps missing, cracked plug sockets etc. On the whole good value, but certainly not pristine. Would stay again, but unlikely to pay more.

This is an old hotel entrance looks quite grand and in good proximity to the town centre. Room - we had had a king size bed which was comfortable but the room was very tired. Lots of stains on the carpet and furniture. It was warm weather but both windows were sealed for “our safety “. They had air conditioning but not much good. Bathroom - the toilet didn’t flush very well and we were told they would make a note but nothing done while we were there lots of black mould around fitting needed a good scrub and dent in the bath tub filled in. Breakfast finished early 9am and wasn’t the best. Staff appeared pleasant and friendly but don’t think we would return.

Extremely poor service, reception rarely manned, dated rooms in desperate need of refurbishment. Rooms not cleaned whilst staying and towels had to be requested. As for breakfast this was a total joke, items missing from breakfast as they ran out early and attitude of the restaurant staff was disgraceful. On raising the complaint to receptionist, it was talking to a brick wall, no acknowledgment of the issues we raised. Definitely won’t be staying here again.

There are no staff in this hotel - last night no one in the bar, today nobody at breakfast - I spoke with the Manager this morning- and he clearly never gave a dam!

Wont ever be staying here again, booked a last minute 2 night break to do some Christmas shopping in Chester. Arrived around 11pm and we were greeted by the receptionist and given our room keys. Before we got in to our room, there were 2 dirty glasses left on the windowsill in the hallway, these could have recently been left, but they were still there the next morning. The building is old and has character, so much so that the doors dont fit in their doorcases and they tend to rattle and creak all night long, the door security chain was also broken and didnt work at all. The bed was very comfortable and the room was warm, but it was also dirty. Thick dust all over the sockets and fittings and lightbulbs etc... I struggled to sleep with the numerous air conditioning units directly outside the window buzzing away all night and then we were woken by the sound of pipes clattering away somewhere. The bathroom was very dated and in need of a deep clean, the mirror screws were held in with some earth wire insulation, the towel radiator connector was held together with lots of black insulation tape and the earth cable just hanging out of it. The soap dispenser was dirty and had rust marks around the rim. Got in the shower in the morning and there was no hot water, the water was lukewarm at best and I don't like hot showers at the best of times. I expected more from a supposedly 4 star hotel and was peeved at paying for what felt like contractors accomodation above an old pub.

Lovely spacious room, impressive water pressure and hot water - filled a bath tub in about 2 minutes! Excellent location and helpful, friendly staff. Can't comment in any of the other aspects as I didn't drink or dine at the hotel.

For the price we paid we were very surprised to get such luxury. Check-in was slow but the staff member explained she was the only member of staff in and she was clearly very busy as well as incredibly polite and kind. The room was large and comfortable, although it was advertised as a King bed, it was two singles pushed together and the gap in the middle made it less comfortable. The location was great as it is walkable to basically everytjing we wanted to do around Chester. The only downside was the parking was a bit of a walk away and expensive but the value of the hotel was enough to negate that. Breakfast was lovely, buffet style with hot food to order. Id have liked better hot choice as it was all or nothing and we werent even asked how we wluld like pur eggs. They were fried well but not our preferences.

Our 2 night stay was good, reception staff nuce and friendly, room was ok. However our breakfast experience ruined our stay. Waited 10 mins to see a member of staff before being seated and was met with a sarcastic rude little blonde, the food when it arrived was inedible and other areas fruits and jams were all empty. Didn't complain as never saw staff again. I complained to reception and they refunded my breakfast for both days as i refused to eat there again. We went to Morrisons on the way to the zoo and the breakfast was like a la carte compared to the Hotels. Wont be staying there again.

Lucked out with this choice whilst being old it was clean the staff were amazingly helpful and it was close to everything.

This was my latest stay in what has been a number of stopovers in the MacDonald New Blossoms Hotel. It is ideally situated right in the middle of Chester. The staff are always so pleasant. I hope to stay there yet again on my next trip to England’s most underrated city.

Great location

Hotel in excellent location , very central to Chester and walkable for everything . Room fine with hairdryer and iron . Was a bit hot as the windows wouldn’t open

The room was comfortable and clean. The staff was helpful and really friendly. Unfortunately, there’s a club next-door that pounds music into your room until the wee hours. If I come back to the area during the week, I would stay again, but not on the weekend.

Excellent position,very friendly helpful staff,good breakfast,quiet and comfortable. Hot water tap in bathroom not working but there was a bath(even though hard to get to taps because of fixed shower screen).Will recommend to friends and go again,many thanks.

Lovely hotel, very central and great room

Nice hotel, large clean room with King size bed. Breakfast good and staff friendly. Only downside was we were at the front of the hotel with a booming night club which went on til 3am ! Maybe ask for a room at the back of the hotel next time.

Fantastic location . Comfortable and warm bedding which was clean and soft. Beautiful Elemis products in the room and powerful hairdryer ( massive thumbs up for this ! ). Staff on reception welcoming and helpful. Staff in the dining room bright and breezy in the morning during breakfast. Cooked breakfast fantastic- tasty, well cooked ( especially the Black Pudding ) - sets you up for the day. Nice hot shower. All in all great stay. Would highly recommend. Thank you Blossoms.Additionally re: parking - Grosvenor shopping centre car park very reasonable priced - easy system - and just round the corner from the hotel.

The hotel building was historic but nice. No fans in the room, area around hotel was noisy lots of people yelling and swearing at all hours. The breakfast buffet on the Sunday was empty when we got there.

Great hotel, highly recommend. In the city centre which is perfect.

Sadly the photos of this hotel must have been taken a few days after it was last renovated as they don’t depict reality and smelt very musty. The hotel really needs some TLC. Our room wasn’t properly cleaned on the second day which was a shame. The hotel itself is ideally located in the centre of Chester, the staff were great (especially the brown haired lady at breakfast who was lovely) and the cooked breakfast was nice despite not always having everything. Breakfast is served weekdays between 7am to 9am which was a rather short window. Such a shame and more a 3 star hotel at best.

The room was very comfortabke with very nice beds. Some of the decor is dated. Very disapointed with the breakfast service and the lacknof a resturant. Bar does not serve pints and its only bottles. Good but the breakfast was very poor .... Reason wasnt the food it was the service...got waiter service one day the next day it was help yiurself with not enough food and whennit came it was cold.

I want to request refund Room was terrible, no water in the room. Very dated. Chef didn’t turn up in the morning so couldn’t have breakfast

Location is amazing, right by the Main Street. Beds were comfy. Hotel is a little dated but clean and tidy. Breakfast is terrible. Very sparse choice and a lot of things were unavailable when asked for (even if they were on the menu).

Lovely stay, and the staff themselves were great. The lack of staff at breakfast times was the main issue, along with a very poor selection and layout at breakfast. The continental breakfast selection was very poor for the price paid. We would definitely return, but would not have the breakfast again.

The breakfast service was appalling we waited 45 minutes for porridge and breakfast and after an hour we gave up The buffet selection was poor no fruit no orange juice only water and apple juice sachet coffee overall poor

Our room was lovely with the biggest bed ive ever slept in. Pillows were so soft. Only disappointment was the breakfast, £30 for 2 breakfasts and the choice for a full english consisted of cold beans, cold fried eggs, cold scrambled eggs, cold sausages, and raw bacon. My advice dont stay for breakfast theres plenty of places to eat at half the price near the hotel.

Lovely hotel , perfectly situated in the city centre. Clean and tidy but some features in the rooms need attention, such as bathroom grouting and blown bath panel . The staff were all pleasant and accommodating. Breakfast was fine on Saturday with table service, although the portions were a bit light . But the Sunday was somewhat shambolic with unlaid tables , people queuing and food running out, the girls serving tried but it needed better organisation. That said , we would stay here again, hoping that the minor issues would be resolved
