Very convenient to the Station and town. Long corridors and lifts weren’t always working. Courteous staff. Washhand basin in bathroom didn’t drain well. We all enjoyed our meals.

Arrived prior to check in time , we knew room would’ve ready which wasn’t a problem. Able to leave luggage behind reception. Parking was payable when leaving your car, just scan the QR code at the machine. Able to sit in the bar and watch the comings and goings at Chester Rail station which is directly opposite the hotel. The bus stop for local buses & the hop on hop off bus tour of Chester is out of the hotel and to the left, literally a minute walk. Once checked in (our room was 1705) which is on 7th floor of the newer part of the hotel. My only gripe is there is only 1 lift and it was very slow. Great artefacts on display everywhere. Room was decorated very well, large bed and separate bath and shower. Some of the sealing at the bottom of shower could do with some attention, but apart from that there were no problems. Breakfast was very good, plenty of choice. We ate dinner in the restaurant on the Sunday night which had plenty of choice and was delicious. I would recommend booking dinner though. We were informed we would t need to book as wasn’t very busy, however when we went to eat we were turned away as we hadn’t booked. They did fit us in though eventually. Sunday night we had drinks in the bar. My tipple is a NZ Sauvignon Blanc but only able to purchase a bottle as they didn’t sell it by the glass, disappointingly they had none chilled. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

The room was spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable. The Carpark was awkward and overcrowded and overcharged us. The hotel could not rectify this. The room had nowhere to hang dresses. The coat hooks behind the door had been taken down leaving holes in the wall.

This is a large hotel in an excellent location for the train station. It is 0.5 miles from the city centre. It has parking, but for a fee (£12 per night). Our room was on the 3rd floor and was large, clean and comfortable. We used the stairs but the lift is very small, so may be a problem for less mobile guests. The breakfast was very good, although we were surprised to see dogs allowed in the restaurant area. The hotel displays a lot of history, which was interesting to see and read about. There are some parts in need of a little TLC, but overall the hotel was very good value for money.

Bathroom has black mould around the bath & Shower mat that they insist you use was covered in dried on filth. Sink took a long time to drain. Coffee machine was dirty and the drip tray appeared to have dried on mill stains. I wouldn't mind so much if it was an oversight and was resolved, but when we raised this with reception, they apparently were not interested and did nothing to resolve at all. Another guest overheard my complaint and said that she was having a similar experience in her room. There are much better hotels than this for a similar price in Chester. Won't be staying here again.

Staff are friendly, especially restaurant staff. Couldn't fault their breakfast, it was excellent. Only complaint i had was the cleanliness of their bedding. In the night i got too hot, so shook the duvet out of its cover and just slept under the cover. In the morning i was shocked to find the duvet I'd been given was blood spattered and had nasty yellow stains on it too. I complained at check out and was told they'd take the matter up with housekeeping.

The hotel it self seemed nice but our room was very tired as if it could do with a refresh. The cleanliness wasn’t great, the TV was about 10 years old and the remote control didn’t work. We had to make the bed properly as the mattress protector was not put on correctly and was all rucked up under the bed sheet. The bath and shower left a lot to be desired with black mould a rusty overflow and it looked as if the recesses under the basin hadn’t been dusted for weeks.

Stayed overnight. Messaged beforehand about early check-in, was told multiple times that I would receive a response but never did. Was repeatedly bombarded with upgrade offers. When I checked in, my toilet had feces all over the outside of the bowl. I complained, was told someone would be sent immediately. I said that I was in a rush, and asked how long it would be. They did not come. I asked for a new room. Noone contacted me, so I went to reception and had to demand one. Huge waste of time. Musty rooms. Stay at the Moxy instead.

Got back to the hotel late - allocated room 1310. Windows were mouldy and there was quite a bit of mould in the shower too. Bed seemed to have a hole in the middle of the mattress. As we weee only there from 10pm it didn’t make sense to move rooms but others should be aware.

Great location. Booked a standard double room. Room was a little far away from lift and still required some traversing of stairs. Beautifully referburbished room was a generous size. Wod have been nice if a bottle of water put in the room. Bathroom small, hor water in the sink barley worked. Drainage in bath very slow so when showering ankle deep in water. Mirro light didn't work. Room had all essentials youd expect. Plus mirror plug table postioned well to enable you to dry hair easily. Id book again

Lovely hotel, very good location, right across from train station, 10 min walk to center of Chester. Room a very good size, bathroom had bath tub/shower, nice to supply kettle with coffee/tea. Option to open windows or have air conditioning. Bed's very comfortable. Would definately return!!!

Very impressed with this place. Very good location, the building itself is stunning, parking nearby which was £12.50 for 24 hrs, the hotel and room was very clean and tidy, very spacious room and comfortable bed. Kettle and coffee was provided as well as ironing board, iron, hair dryer, soaps etc. Air conditioned rooms and plenty of plug sockets. 5* all around, I plan to visit Chester again and I'll definitely stay here again

Room was great hotel was clean staff were ok only problem we had is at 7.15pm last night we could not get an evening meal in the restaurant as it was full which is fair enough how ever we could not get room service or any bar food as because of them being full in the restaurant they closed all other food orders at 7.15 pm, which meant we had to walk miles and eat out costing £88.00 where we could have spent that money in the hotel, it was such a shame as this is a really nice hotel we will not be staying again because of the food problems.

The room we stayed in was very warm and the air con did very little to combat this. The hotel gave us a WhatsApp number to contact if we had any problems, it took them almost five hours to respond.

The property was full of character. Very spacious with several areas to relax inside and outside. The food was excellent on both breakfast and evening meal. The bedroom was spacious. Staff friendly and helpful.

This is a Victorian era hotel that has been properly upgraded with modern amenities. It is directly across from the train station, which is extremely convenient and walking distance to attractions. The only downside is the check in time is 4:00 pm and there was a long line of people waiting for pre-booked rooms.

The staff were not welcoming at all but rude . The hotel was really busy and lots of Christmas party’s and people drunk not a place for my children was not informed of this . We wanted room service and was told we could not have as they were busy with a party of 400 people . Also was not informed before stay . We had payed for a room these at the party most of them not staying at the hotel . Was not a good place to sit with the kids at the bar as really really busy people everywhere. So we had to go up to the room with no food as was told could not do us any food until after 9pm . No good for the children. Also we was on the first floor and all we could hear was load music all night from the party below the room . Also not told about before we booked . So we had to go up to the room with no food as was told could not do us any food until after 9pm . No good for the children. Also we was on the first floor and all we could hear was load music all night from the party below the room . Also not told about before we booked . A great one-night stay in a nice hotel, directly over the road to the train station and a 10minute walk into the lovely city centre. Full marks for preserving the features and atmosphere of that kind of hotel - bonus marks for preserving the arch through which vehicles reach what is now the parking lot - it reads “Carriages and Post Horses for Hire”. That area used to be the stables. Key elements (bathrooms and the restaurant) have been modernized. The self-serve Breakfast is all you could wish for in terms of choice. We loved it so much we had an open night on our stay so came back for another night before moving on to Northern Ireland. This is a large hotel in an excellent location for the train station. It is 0.5 miles from the city centre. It has parking, but for a fee (£12 per night). Our room was on the 3rd floor and was large, clean and comfortable. We used the stairs but the lift is very small, so may be a problem for less mobile guests. The breakfast was very good, although we were surprised to see dogs allowed in the restaurant area. The hotel displays a lot of history, which was interesting to see and read about. There are some parts in need of a little TLC, but overall the hotel was very good value for money.

The traditional decor was beautiful. However, we waited over an hour for a bar snack and in the end got a full refund and the lift broke down and we were on the second floor. But the staircase was out of this world. The Staff were lovely and friendly and the Hotel was clean and tidy. Very convenient location, right opposite the Train station.

Room was great hotel was clean staff were ok only problem we had is at 7.15pm last night we could not get an evening meal in the restaurant as it was full which is fair enough how ever we could not get room service or any bar food as because of them being full in the restaurant they closed all other food orders at 7.15 pm, which meant we had to walk miles and eat out costing £88.00 where we could have spent that money in the hotel, it was such a shame as this is a really nice hotel we will not be staying again because of the food problems.

Reception staff were super efficient and helpful on arrival however issues arose when we asked for a cup of tea in the bar area at night (10.30pm). We were informed we couldn’t have tea because the coffee machine had been cleaned. Another guest was told she couldn’t have a coffee at the same time. We asked to speak to a duty manager and were told no one was available. We are so disappointed, we’ve stayed on numerous occasion but never experienced shoddy service before. The staff in the bar didn’t want to be there. They had time to make cocktails but not tea/coffee which take less time.

Fabulous hotel, just located opposite the train station. We stayed for two nights 2 adults and four children. We visited the zoo and the bus stop is just over the road from the hotel which is convenient with four children. Catered well for our 11 year-old coeliac grandson. Staff really friendly and rooms lovely and comfortable. Had a great stay and wouldn’t hesitate to stay again if visiting Chester.

Great location. Parking a little pricey. Staff really attentive and helpful. Especially when air con went a bit made. Was sorted within seconds using their what’s app contacts. We also had afternoon tea - that was delish and just the right portion sizes. Room was clean although some areas would benefit with a bit of tlc. It was fine for me for one nights. I would have prepared nice coffee bags - I I usually carry my own but forgot. And water and biscuit may have been a nice touch but again I got a really good deal so can’t complain. However these are what you would expect in a 4* had you paid full price. Had a lovely night away. Nice treat on a Sunday night
