Roker Hotel BW Premier Collection

A pretty good hotel, nice restaurant & bar. A bit of a labyrynth depending where your room is. Back-facing rooms have an unpleasant outlook.

Limited options for vegetarians in the hotel restaurant. Very noisy if you did choose to eat there with a DJ playing loud music in the bar. Coffee in the room and at breakfast was dreadful, please change the brand. Room was nice, but not particularly clean, our view was of an air conditioning duct and the back of a building, bathroom was clean.

Fantastic location opposite Roker Pier. Lots of parking available although the car park behind the hotel was very poorly signposted.

A little dated, layout like a rabbit warren lots of coridors and stairs so not so great if your of restricted mobility

The access to the room was difficult.The lift was out of order. The room was very cold and overlooked the back lane. It was a very small room but clean. Not the best experience I’ve ever had before.

The Roker BW Hotel is a reasonable hotel with decent rooms and a very nice bar/restaurant area, which has very good prices. My issue was with the room i was allocated, where I had to walk up one floor, then walk along a long corridor then diwn to flights of stairs to access my room! This process was in reverse if you were to return to the reception or front entrance/exit. I thought this was totally unacceptable and easier access/ egress should be provided by the Roker BW Hotel, not very convenient!

Nice hotel staff pleasant. Food very good both breakfast and evening meal. Room no view at all, pillows not great. Shower good. Free parking but you have to register your car. Area nice beach good. Easy walking. Would recommend and will return.

We stayed in one of the Executive Suites. Very spacious, clean, well decorated, great view. Staff were lovely. Breakfast was excellent. Only drawback was the noise from the DJ in the bar below. However, this stopped at midnight and it was a Friday night so to be expected. Would definitely stay again.

Everyone who works at the hotel (reception, restaurant, bar, cleaners etc) are absolutely fantastic and customer service was great. Room was spotless though a little cold as the radiator wouldn't switch on but the bed so comfortable which provided a great sleep under the warm quilt. Glad I booked the breakfast as it was freshly cooked and there was lots of options. The only slight downside is that there are lots of stairs (and I mean lots!) so getting to your room is a mission if you're not near the reception so not ideal for disabled guests or, like me, just recuperating from a knee operation! Possibly the hotel could add a note in their description so if guests do have a problem with stairs then they can request in advance a more accessible room.

Stayed in room 111, large room and bathroom but looked out to a brick wall. Room was upstairs, across the corridor and back down some stairs! The was a dirty towel left at the side of the bed. Beds were comfortable and good shower. Breakfast was terrible! Went down around 9.30 and there was nothing left, I asked for more bacon and went back twice before it was replenished. No plates or cups left, very poor and disappointing. Nice large outdoor seating area overlooking the sea

Stayed at room 116. Bathroom floor had 3 tiles broken.

I don’t normally write reviews, but I booked this place because I’d been for breakfast a few times and enjoyed it so trusted the brand. On arrival, we had to wait a while for someone to arrive at reception but once greeted we were allowed early check in which was great! The staff member was really nice and explained the policies well. We checked into room 109 which was a fair treck up and down the hotel. The room was smaller than it looked on the photos, and I thought I might have been given a lower room than booked. The room had everything we needed which was great, but was a little dated. There was a dead spider on the floor, a few marks on the walls, and although surface clean could have done with a deep clean in the bathroom especially. The bed and pillows were lumpy and cheap feeling and we didn’t sleep very well. The room had very thin walls and we could hear the next room turn their taps on in the morning, as well as being woken up to other people coming back to their room after 1am as the stairs were right by our room. I felt for the price I paid, I expected something a little fresher, comfier and quieter. But the staff were quite nice. We met up with family for breakfast and had the buffet but hardly anything was left, I did expect more food to be available. But in the past I really have enjoyed their breakfasts to order and will go again for that! In any case, my stay was not as comfortable as I’d hoped for the money, but all the staff were doing their best!

To get to the room we had to go stairs up and down, in narrow corridor with luggage. We had the impression it was in the cave... also it was not perfectly clean, espacially the breakfast table, the corridor. Actually the room itself was not too bad and calm, just less nice than in the pictures.

I find it very difficult to understand how The Roker Hotel is rated as a 4 star Premium hotel. At best in relation to accommodation it's a 2 star. The room we had was very small with a very small bed. It looked dated and the carpet was terribly stained. The quality of furniture was very poor and storage was minimal. The bathroom was fine. My route from reception to my room was the worst I've ever experienced. No lift and 3 seperate flights of stair carrying a case and I'm 72 years of age. Nobody at reception warned me and my wife of the difficulty of the route or offered porter support to carry the cases. The staircase rails were dusty and the corridors justfelt and look unclean. Bar staff were very pleasant and the free drinks vouchers were welcome but overall this was very disappointing accommodation and although I visit Sunderland at 3 times a year I will not use this accommodation again.

My room was 123. There was a strange odour in the room each time I walked in. A bit like a drainage issue. Also, the toilet was NOT clean. I had to do it myself. Regarding service in the restaurant, for my 2nd visit in a row, my meal was delivered to the wrong table. My meal sat in front of a customer, at an adjacent table, for several minutes before the waiter returned to sort the issue. Surely it can't be difficult to deliver orders to the appropriate table! The waiter was apologetic but the meal was lukewarm.

Spotlessly clean, and comfortable. Sea view was great, even with the poor Northern weather. I ate at the Italian next door and decided to leave breakfast due to an early start so cannot comment on the food. The staff are great, and very helpful. I recommend the Roker.

Got woken up by water coming through the lights and fire alarm before 7am the floor above me the ceiling fell down mine would have been next...some of belongs were soaked including my shoes which I wore while waiting for the manager for 3 hours who I was told would speak to me never met him or her during my whole stay... Have not received any compensation at this time expect a full refund. Staff were nice but clueless in this situation Will be making a complaint with hotels.com

The bedsheet are not changed when the rooms are cleaned and bathroom are not cleaned, breakfast is bland , no varieties for breakfast.

Nice clean, comfortable room and the food in the bar was excellent. Can't fault the hotel or staff.

The room was so hot couldnt turn it down and couldnt open the window as it was locked. Bedroom over the kitchen so the fan was running all night. Not a great night 😕

Room very small

The mattress in my room was worn out and needed to be replaced. However generally I everything was fine.

It was ok. Did not think room should have been classes as sea view as hotels name sign blocked view.

The room was small and cramped. Most staff were not pleasant to talk to, except the lady in the breakfast room. also one books multiple days and only gets a bottle of water on the first day. What's that about?

Small room, hardly any space to move, could not even move the chair out of the desk without touching the bed.

Bed was extremly soft and old, the room was ok but the hotel need a makeover. Only cleaning every 3 days. Its sad when you only have 2 nights.

Pillows are terrible and the shower was a weird height but other than its a great hotel.

Overall excellent. The room was small but lovely. Downsides… access, upstairs and downstairs, was rather awkward and the WiFi did not work.

Sharon in housekeeping is the most amazing lady - a credit to any business. Shawnee on reception was also fantastic and really helpful.

Brilliant front of house staff, reception was great and very understanding.

Booked and paid for executive room did not get one. No hairdryer in room. No working TV. No Wifi. Complained and hotel basically said too bad!

Stayed twice. Never again after last visit. Asked what time food was served until. Told 9.15 last orders. Came down 8.30 to be told chef gone home early. So no food. Brilliant for a birthday treat for my mrs.

We have stayed here many times, always so welcoming and friendly.

Check in took a long time. The website offers free room upgrades when available but we were told this wasn’t true. We then had to argue that this was what was advertised and we weren’t willing to pay the money to upgrade if it was advertised as free. This was embarrassing and we had to wait 20 minutes and show the wording on the booking for the receptionist to speak to his manager and confirm that we were right and give us the upgrade. The computers then crashed and we had to wait again for this. Completely not the receptionists fault but hotels fault. He couldn’t apologise enough for the inconvenience of the long wait but in the stress of the situation forgot to give us vouchers for drinks and explain about bar tabs etc. which were explained later. Website advertises multiple restaurants including an Italian, which is amazing but not actually affiliated with the hotel and the receptionist tried to convince us to use their restaurant instead. Weird. Italian was 10/10 and would definitely recommend. Bed in the room was very low. Anyone with nobility issues would not be able to get up and down off the bed. Room as spacious and furniture okay but signs of wear/damage on furniture and bedding. Carpet was lumpy and a trip hazard between the bathroom and the bedroom. Plastic cups rather than glasses which was again a bit unusual. Poetic license bar was nice, barmaid friendly and helpful and there was a good choice of drinks available. Comfy seats and a good view.

I booked this for the Friday before the pink concert on 10th of June has I had booked a ticket hotel package with a well known company who 1 week before told me that they could not supply the hotel room for Saturday night I phoned the rocker hotel who I had booked myself for Friday let them know of my. Problem with my ticket hotel booking the receptionist was brilliant she said that it would not be a problem for me to leave my car in there car park on Saturday when the concert was on When me and my wife arrived the receptionist said she might have a cancellation for Saturday night. While we were having drinks and food in the restaurant she phoned and confirmed that they was a cancellation for Saturday night which made life easier for us the staff here are so helpful and friendly can't recommend this hotel enough

arrived at hotel and staff were very eager to help and also upgraded the next day and I was so shocked by how good the rooms are and I would highly reccomend staying there if you are looking for somewhere in the Sunderland/South Shields area even for a night away

Hotel was lovely right on the beach front with a fantastic view of the pier. Staff were very polite and welcoming. Will be staying again

Great location across the street was the North Sea with pier and lighthouse.

The Roker Hotel is is our favourite hotel in Sunderland and it's the one me and my partner keep coming back too each year. It has a prime location by the sea and it's easy to get out to Durham, Newcastle or the surrounding area. The beach is just a short walk away, and has some lovely coffee spots and restaurants on it. The Stadium of Light is also in walking distance if you are vising to see Sunderland play. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The on-site bar is also really good!

Great stay , excellent location

Lovely place at the beachside at Roker. Look out at the lighthouse and the northsea with its power. Miles with beaches a walk to Whitburn on the sandy ground.

Delay with food service. Woken at 4am with extremely loud water pressure noise as a basement room. Every additional water usage in the hotel produced a loud noise, in general a nice quiet room but horrendous water noise through out the night.

The hotel had different options for dining and a large bar/restaurant area with a covered outside terrace with excellent staff that were most helpful at all times. I paid an additional amount for breakfast, however the filter coffee at breakfast was bitter and not very warm. When I asked for a coffee latte there was an additional charge which I think the hotel management should reconsider.

Lovely hotel .brilliant sleep and very quiet during the night ...breakfast was ok but was mostly cold ..staff brilliant

We liked everything but the food. Really stunted/limited choice. Same menu lunch and evening. 2nd night had steak pie, I've bought better ones in Lidl, it was dry, hard over cooked. Veg were so obviously done in microwave, like chewing rubber. We went as a couple but ended up eating separately as we had to wait for a second serving, not much better than first. After paying good money for half board expected better than that. Ill not be staying there again, sad, because rooms were excellent. Perhaps separate menus and a decent, experienced chef would help

The location was excellent and staff very friendly whenever spoken to. The Italian restaurant on site (Antico) was superb and couldn’t be faulted. The bar was nice, very busy. Live dj playing loud music until gone 11pm, this should really be pointed out quite clearly on the listing. It was quite “night clubby” in it’s vibe and wasn’t what we expected at all. Radiator in room was roasting hot regardless of where the thermostat was so we had to have the window open which only made the noise worse. Bed in the “cosy room” we had was uncomfortable and the sheets covered in hair when we arrived. Overall, not great and I would expect better quite honestly.

Delightful beach front hotel. The outside belies the comfort inside. New Bistro style restaurant is excellent, great food & an extremely comfortable room . Friendly & professional service .

Our second stay here, good welcoming service. Had some lovely food in the tea room and enjoyed some small plates in the main bar. Hotel has a nice ambience in the public areas. Bit disappointed with the range of food now offered. Not as good as last year on daytime and evening menus but everything we ordered was tasty and well prepared. A few delays on cooked breakfast item availability on the second of our two days stay. A small inconvenience but still an inconvenience. I'd urge staff to ensure items are available throughout the breakfast service.
