Went on 1st week of October, weather was still fine, only one evening it rained, better than forecast which showed 7 days of non-stop rain. Good hotel for family vacation with kids. Beach is very nice, shallow which is nice for those who have smaller kids. We saw plenty of fish in the water. Pools are large so there is plenty of space of everyone to swim and be comfortable. Food and drinks are okay, nothing fancy but quite decent for the price paid. Overall good hotel in terms of price value, spending 5-7 days on the beach if that's what you are looking for. If you are looking for luxury - check other pricier hotels, but if what you need is good budget friendly hotel to spend time with family and kids - this maybe what you are looking for.

We stayed at Barcelo Maya June 8-17. My husband and I brought 4 young adults ranging in age from 23-17. For this reason we wanted a large resort with lots of activities to keep our kiddos occupied. Barcelo was a good choice, but there are some things I felt could use some attention. Glows: -Check in went smoothly. We had 3 rooms. I didn’t make any requests, but we all ended up close together. -Air conditioning worked really well! Housekeeping checked the room daily. -Grounds are really nice. Because of the size of the beach and the number of pools, you can always find somewhere to sit. -We were able to get reservations for dinner for 8 nights as long as we were pretty flexible. We had great service at all of the restaurants. Grows: -Our room refrigerator was never stocked unless we left a note with a tip. They do not seem to have wash cloths, so you’ll just have to use hand towels to wash your face. 2/3 of our rooms had robes…not sure why one room didn’t. -There is no beach service at all and they will not allow you to take food out of restaurants. -You’re required to use towel cards to get towels. This is a huge pain, in my opinion. -Many waitstaff/bartenders we encountered weren’t real friendly. This may be due to the volume of people they encounter in a resort of this size. -Having to pay for a lot of the “extras” was not ideal. We’ve stayed at other resorts of this size that didn’t charge for extras.

The resort is very nice, huge area with big pools, very nice kids water park, my kids had a lot of fun there. Very nice and clean hotel, not only hotel the whole territory was always clean. The only thing I didn’t like is a food, the hotel should have more food available for smaller kids, more steamed vegetables, some soft meat for kids, mashed potatoes. Staff was great. Shows were fun. Rooms were clean, but ac shuts off repeatedly while you sleep. Pool was beautiful, but not cooled enough. By afternoon you may as well jump in a hot tub. There is no poolside service apart from swim up bars. Restaurants. Atmosphere was great but food was less than expected. Buffett cleanliness was touch and go. Mostly due to guests and lack of tongs. But some staff habits looked less than expected of a resort this nice. Make sure to go to guest services as soon as you check in to get Restaurant reservations. Be warned even with all inclusive you only get so many dining options depending on how long you stay. Again, no poolside food options.

Dinning was disappointing when it comes to getting a reservation. We tried 6 days in advance and almost nothing available. Very strict rules, we were a big family and they denied adding 1 chair to the table so didn’t have to separate the kids. Even after we spoke with the manager no solution was found. Dress code was reinforced only to certain guests. We saw men’s waking in shorts. Beach was beautiful but so many rocks you will need water shoes. Housekeeping very good!! Buffet offered many options for everyone.

This Barcelo Maya resort has 6 lobbies/properties. When checked in upon arrival at theTropical, they could not find our name and said they reserved the rights to switch us to another property, which was Caribe. We were told everything should be the same. Based on our experience, Caribe was a bit older than Tropical. There are multiple drop in buffets and snack bars, including 5 formal restaurants. You can only book 4 maximum per stay and before 3pm. Overall quality and services were great. It takes a few days to get comfortable with the navigation around the resort. There’s bus services onsite to go from one property to another. However, the biggest feedback for the resort is to have more signages to guide guests and direction destination on the bus. One time it took us 30 minutes to travel by bus just from Caribe to Tropical, when walking would've only take less than 10 minutes. This is because the buses have no direction indicator to tell you which direction they are traveling, and they could take you for a loop before going to the destination of choice. Staff are friendly and most can speak basic English. Internet WiFi is good throughout the resort, even at the pool and beach areas. Excursions can be booked on-site and the staff was helpful. Free water activities must be booked on the same day where lineup starts at 8:30am.

While the buffet had a wide variety of food choices most of the food was either cold or slightly warm. While the decor of the unit we stayed in was visually pleasing it was in need of some repair work. Our first unit had a ceiling leak after a heavy rainfall. We were eventually moved to a second unit but for whatever reason the bedding felt damp and the bathroom tissue was always limp.

This resort is clean and the service was excellent. Loved the shopping at the resort, don’t even need to leave to get souvenirs or gifts to take home! Jose at the Tropical pool was awesome!! Beautiful, clean and the food was wonderful!!

Very clean room, courteous staff, excellent food, clean pools and beaches. Unfortunately, our room was directly facing the entertainment venue and was very loud. My daughter next door with a child made it a bit difficult for sleeping, however music was done by 10:30. Overall, it was an excellent stay.

Property: Wifi weak everywhere but worse in the rooms. You are either far from the beach or far from the buffet or far from the lobby because the property is huge. If you have ambulatory issues this is a difficult property to navigate. The property is beautiful. There is a bus that leaves from the lobby and goes to all hotels and the mall. Room: 1st room was all bad. 2nd room was good. Everything you need but no extras. A/C did not manage the humidity but did keep it cold. Beds were comfortable but sunk in the middle so only one person could sleep in each bed. Only 8 English channels and no streaming services. Food; Buffets were average. Nothing special but nothing bad. Drinks were good - Mango Tango, Pina Colada and Khalua and cream were my favorite. A la Cartes - La Fente - Spanish - a lot of seafood and ham, Mexicana - Mexican - Good, Sante Fe - Steak - Good food but very loud and Kyoto - All good! Book your A la Cartes as soon as you get there and do not take a 'regular' table at Kyoto. Do not take no for an answer. Beach - Be out on the beach or pool before 9am to put down your towel down and then go for breakfast. You can walk away and no one will touch your chair. We found a nice place where you can sit facing the ocean but by the pool and still see the ocean. Just look for the low bushes in the 3rd bank of shaded chairs from the Tropical Beach Buffet. Definitely worth the cost. I might choose the Barcelo Beach next time but I don't know about the rooms.

The property was beautiful and so many things to do. There were a lot of food and drink choices. The wait staff was amazing and very nice. The only downfall was that the rooms were damp and musty. There is no ventilation on rooms, all clothes were wet and not getting dry enough. Not enough beach chairs, we came at 8 am and every spot was already taken, it was continuing through all stay.

The property is huge and clean. Swimming pool was not overcrowded even though there were alot of people around. We stayed at Barcelo Maya Tropical. Check in process was quick and easy but were not offered a room upgrade or any kind of accommodation for a special celebration. Our room was outdated. Shower tub was not draining well and water pressure was so low. Pool service was poor and understaffed. They have a big bar but only 2 bar tenders sometimes 1. Its location was far and inconvenient. The drinks were too sweet and watered down alcohol. It feels like your drinking juice rather than margarita. Food is the same everyday and no other variety of cuisine. The worst part is ala cart dinner reservations were limited. You were only allowed 2 reservations on a 4 night stay. Which unfortunately was not available until our last 2 nights. They didn’t even try to accommodate our request on a 3rd night for a birthday celebration. Overall, it was an ok experience. Nothing so special about the service other than a great view, great entertainment at the theater and cheaper activities than any other places.

I've never been to a resort where you've to book dinner before you get there. front desk staff, extremely rude. even the resort is beautiful and all other staff were very nice, i would not visit again. the front desk made our check in a horrible experience.

Staff was accomodating, no pressure for anything. Great for a family or people who dont leave the resort. Always had service. We had some issues with our travel agent and the hotel stepped up and gave us multiple upgrades.

Everything was really good, the food was great, just the check in i didnt liked they just give you your keys and you're on your own, no information about restaurants or what to do, also paid for the alcohol and food upgrade, it didnt felt that way, room service took more than an hour to answer the phone and lobby as well. Receptionist in the lobby was really rude.

Service was hit and miss, some friendly and helpful staff, but also a lot who seemed indifferent. This resort is clean and the service was excellent. Loved the shopping at the resort, don’t even need to leave to get souvenirs or gifts to take home! Jose at the Tropical pool was awesome!! Beautiful, clean and the food was wonderful!!

We went with a group of 10. We emailed and called ahead of time and were able to get all our rooms close to eachother and 2 joining rooms. The resort is beautiful. The staff work hard to meet all your needs. There are plenty of options food wise. The steak restaurant was amazing. We used Mexican Travel Solutions with no issues. We confirmed our transportation plans before our drop off/pick up dates and there is a rep on site (Colonial). Our trip was amazing-it is what you make it-we always have a great time!

Overall experience was good, Facilities were clean and the room was good except that the A/C was not working good. The staff was unprofessional and always waiting for tips and if you don’t give tips they will take forever to prepare your order. The housekeeping forgot to clean the room one day. The bell person was very rude. Food was perfect and the steak house was the best.

Friendly staff, beautiful grounds. What we like is that this resort is very large with multiple options for pools and food. The beach was in great condition. The water can be rocky at some points, but mostly clear and with abundance of fish near the rocks.

Love the fact you can swim with wild sea turtles at this resorts beach, plus there are lots of wild life on the grounds. Staff are very friendly and attentive.

Very beautiful and well maintained property. Buffet food is good but the same variety every day. The workers at Barcelo are the best I have seen, all work so hard, so fast and accommodating. The beach have some rocks and seaweeds but the workers did a good job cleaning up the seaweeds every morning. The ocean water is clean, refreshing and swimmable. We spent most of our time in the beach areas but the pools are large and beautiful too. There are plenty of chairs everywhere and plenty of shaded areas under the palm trees anytime of day. I will definitely give it five stars if they allows a là carte restaurant reservations every nights like most other all-inclusive resorts. Only 3 reservations allowed for 6 nights.

This is a great Hotel. The only reason I don’t give it 5 stars is because of the beach and ocean. The snorkeling off the beach is fantastic, but if you like soft sand and crystal clean water this is not the place for you. A lot of rocks and coral, so water shoes are a must. Don’t let this stop you from coming here though. It’s a great Hotel with tons of stuff to do. Pools are fantastic and staff was great.

premium level- transport- happy shuttle- since the hotels has to be booked at least 48 hrs prior and is also more expensive. -concierge pre-reserved the special restaurants steakhouse, Italian and Japanese. There is also seafood restaurant. Change the reservations if u want to. The Japanese restaurant is an experience. The food in the Italian exceeded expectations. - room has sliding bathroom doors which cant be locked. - book is in the room with all activities listed. We were also given a small list at check-in. All shows were good but The “Mexican fiesta” - excellent! - dolphinaris- The interaction with the dolphins was wonderful but the customer exp left a sour taste. The price is listed only in usd. If you are paying in another currency, they convert first to pesos and then to the relevant currency. We paid in cad. So the conversions gave a loss of 40 cad compared to converting directly from usd to cad. 1pic is 49usd digital OR printed. Insane! - Jet ski- absolutely great and a good experience overall. Photos turned out grt. -Zumba class, water aerobics- held by the pool bar. look at information /schedule by the pools. -The place and pools wer so well maintained they need special mention. rained th 1st night but by 9am the pools were clean.The grass is regularly trimmed, the trees maintained, the decks hosed down every evening and the cups left behind picked up. I loved the hotel's pool, it's very large with several swimming areas. The buffet food has to improve, it's not very good and they always had the same thing. The hotel staff was not very friendly.

I liked everything except for the dining option. We were there for 6 days/5 nights and wasn't able to get a reservation at the Capri or Santa Fe because it was fully booked so we had to settle for the buffet. We were given 2 tickets to done at either places, it would have been nice if we were able to use it.

Everything was fine. The rooms were clean, and the pool was very nice. I was there for six days and was only allowed to go to two restaurants, which made no sense to me. I had to eat at the buffet, and that's where it annoyed me. The food at the buffet was horrible. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were gross. I couldn't even eat the food. When I asked where I could eat since the buffet was so bad, they said the snack bar had food, and it did: apples, pears, and bananas. Oh yeah, also popcorn. This is the first time i went to an all-inclusive resort and lost weight

The rooms were as expected. clean , 2 beds nothing out of the ordinary. The bathroom however was gross . The shower head barely worked. it was covered in calcium deposits. The button to flush did not work properly it seemed to be broken partially. Also the AC left an unpleasant odor in the room . The buffet dinning was good overall , plenty of options. However trying to get a reservation in both of their restaurants was impossible even close to one week out .I believe it was due to the amount of people staying at the resort and the capacity the restaurant could offer on a daily basis. We liked it so much that we extended our stay for two nights! Food is diverse and delicious especially for a All Inclusive. Sit down restaurants are very good but you do need to book with time. Staff is so friendly and welcoming! I absolutely love the hotel. Can’t wait to be back next year! I’d have paid for the Premium package if I knew the differences before booking!
