Always is a good time to stay there and enjoy all the beautiful landscapes, endless pool the bar and the excellent service, also you can visit three more Barcelo's around in the property and walk all along in the property to exercise or just to enjoy the sea. The gym there is huge, the food is excellent. The only thing I didn't like is the rocks in the beach you have to wear water shoes. This is my four time that I stay there, three times in " Barcelo riviera Maya and one Barcelo Maya Colonial. Exellent Hotels

The property is so big that it never feels crowded. There are plenty of chairs around the pools and the beach with sun and/or shade. We had close proximity to 2 pool bars and 2 beach restaurants/grills. The kids play area is wonderful as well. My one complaint is how loud the theater is! The shows starts at 9:00pm and run til around 10:30 or 11:00pm every night. It's so loud you cant understand the words to the music - it's so distorted. And, we went to bed early each night but couldn't fall sleep unless we used earplugs. We only attended one show and it was so loud we left after 20 minutes because we had to keep plugging our ears.

Barcelo Maya Colonial has everything you could want at a resort, great staff, awesome pools and beaches. The food was great at buffets and the a la carts. Our only complaint were the twin beds in our regular room were uncomfortable had quite pronounced divets in the centre, meaning we were constantly sliding towards the middle of the bed. Everything else was A+.
Barcelo Maya Colonial has everything you could want at a resort, great staff, awesome pools and beaches. The food was great at buffets and the a la carts. The property was clean and beautiful. Staff were friendly and mostly attentive. The evening shows were good and the food in the buffet was plentiful. The restaurants were difficult to get into and most of our dinner reservations were for 9:00 to 9:30 at night. The house red wine was awful, but wine in the restaurants were good. The pools were awesome and the beaches were clean and gorgeous. I didn't try the spa, but heard it was nice. The gym was great!

Clean room and resort overall, so many activities to do. Bowling, large interactive games, go carts, surfing, wind sailing, kayaking, mini golf are just some of the free activities this resort offers. We went diving and jet skiing also. Excellent staff very helpful with any issues. The food at the buffet was good overall except the breakfast it always seemed a little cold. We ate dinner at the steak house, Italian and Brazilian, all were excellent food and service.

Pues al fin me pude hospedar aquí y va una reseña completa y honesta, La comida si está buena más no es una chulada, todos los días varía la comida y toda en buen estado, los trabajadores todos muy amables tanto con el cliente nacional como internacional, las habitaciones muy cómodas y acogedoras, solo lo único malo es que se escuchan los ruidos de las habitaciones de alrededor, las albercas están padrísimas muy disfrutables solo que les hace falta más limpieza por que hay mucha basura y lama en los bordes, la playa siempre estuvo limpia, siempre hubo camastros, definitivamente le doy un 8/10 y lo recomendaría a conocidos.

Room was nasty, we got there and blankets were dirty, shower was dirty and with mold around, room has musty smell and it was humid, if you care about how clean the room is then this is NOT your hotel. I would NOT recommend it for a clean person. Hotel lobby was leaking from the ceiling. Food was excellent at the buffet and redtaurants were not thay good. Restaurants were diffocult to get reservations due to small size. No food stations aroind pools like other resorts ive visited. Pool was good and the beach area was nice.

Always clean, grounds and gardens are meticulously maintained. Rooms are good size and nicely furnished. Fridge is restocked daily. You will get your steps in as this is a huge resort. Food is plentiful and par for the course for an all-inclusive.

There are lots to do at this resort however lots of things cost extra so while it was all inclusive there were lots of activities that were at an extra charge (bowling, surf and rider, all tennis courts and mini golf after 7). There are lots of restaurants to choose from and quality at the a la cartes was good but buffet food was always the same and bland. We have a gluten intolerance and there were lots of options and they were very good at accommodating that. The rooms are very damp (our beds and clothes always felt damp) even with the air conditioner running and the showers are not that nice. It’s a large resort so lots of walking involved. Be prepared to go reserve your cots very early in the morning otherwise they are all taken even though it says you can’t reserve cots.

We had an amazing family vacation. This is our seventh time staying in the Riviera Maya on many different properties and this vacation was by far for the best. This property has so many great things for whatever you wanna do during your vacation. Great location for excursions- no long travel time. I will say the rooms are very dated though, and the air conditioning was moldy and fan made noise but other than that it was a fabulous trip and will come back. If room esthetics are important to u than this may not be your resort. The beach and pools were amazing! Friendly staff. Food was great! I was nervous about the food but really enjoyed buffets and restaurants! Bonus that There are cenotes right across the street which are incredible . Definitely would recommend this resort!

- Beds are not queen size as their website states (more like a double / standard). - Buffets provided plenty of options - Common area bathrooms need a lot of TLC (urinals leaking all over floors in multiple bathrooms, sink sensors not working) - AC in our room made excessive noise if turned too high. - A la carte restaurant food quality is ok - not great. - resort has a lot of amenities on one property - there's plenty for all ages. We travelled with a group of 11 with age range of 6 - 48 - everyone had a great time. Would I return? Yes - even with the down sides - the property has plenty to offer for families at its price point.

Spent 5 nights at the Maya Colonial, but really it is the Barcelo resort as each resort is interconnected and you can move freely between them. The rooms are quite comfortable and fairly clean, but they are COLD. No matter what you do to the thermostat, the room stays about 17*C or 62*F. The blankets keep you warm in bed, but it is not pleasant walking around the room or sitting on the couch. Buffet is pretty good, but this is the first all-inclusive where you are limited on how many time you can eat at the actual restaurants instead of the buffet. Additionally, you cannot book the restaurants prior to check in; we checked in and immediately went to guest services to reserve the teppenyaki grill and it was booked up for the entirety of our stay. In fact, out of all the restaurants included in Barcelo, only one restaurant was available the entire week, so we couldn't even try a second restaurant. This was pretty aggrivating. The evening shows are pretty impressive in scale and production value, but were singing and dancing every night. Having a variety show, a comedy show, a magic show -anything else- would have broken up the monotony of singing and dancing every night. We ended up not going our last two nights as we didn't feel like it was entertaining. Beach was much better than expected due to reports of seaweed, but it was super clear. No beach bar though, you need to go to the pool bar and walk back and forth. Drinks are made very strong.

Honest review. Our first several days at Barcelo Maya Colonial were not good. We were in a first floor room which we could hear everything and it kept us up during the night from drunk people coming home from the bar and early sports games in the morning. In addition, there were numerous times that staff scanned into our room even when we had the do not disturb sign on. Luckily, we asked to move rooms and the staff moved us to floor 3 which was a lot quieter and more peaceful for us. The staff here were super hard working and friendly, they were great. We didn’t like the massive feel of the resort, most things were a very far walk. The cleanliness of the pool and room bathrooms were bad at times. Pros: - Good A La Carte meal options -Good options at buffets - Great staff - Nice pool area, and the ocean was rocky but nice for swimming and snorkelling - Good sports facilities and other options for activities Cons: - Almost all extra activities and services costed an additional amount, which is unexpected at an all inclusive. Felt like a money grab. - Rooms had some mild and mildew smell, first floor was unbearably loud. - The pools were only about 3 feet deep everywhere, good for kids but not for adults.

We upgraded to premium and again no one told what extra amenities that were offered to us. Fortunately for us we met a random guest that taught what we get. They showed us some of the amenities and where the premium guest services office was at. I wish the customer service was better. Overall the resort and all the resorts were absolutely beautiful. The services at the bars and restaurants was awesome as well. Customers is not good at all.

We had a great experience at the Barcelo Colonial. We went 14 years ago and we are so glad we went back. The resort is extremely clean. We had amazing service from all the staff. They went above and beyond. The food was great and the a la carte restaurant were very good as well. The beach was clean and beautiful. The resort has a really good night club, shopping mall area and the sports bar was really nice too. Drinks were really good too. I have no complaints at ALL and we will definitely be back. This resort is 10/10 and I will recommend it to everyone.

Staff were friendly. The gym didn’t have much to offer. Our door lock/ key reader stopped working the second day and took a while to fix. My only real complaint was the food hours. Dinning didn’t open until 7am, which also meant no coffee until 7am, which is a problem when we wake up at 5, and some days had activities picking us up by 630. The grounds and pool were nice.

One of the worst stays, people at the check-in were very rude. No welcome drink, no smiles. They told me they didn't have any rooms available and they had to move me to another hotel, after arguing the guy took my passport and disappeared for 15 minutes(I was with 2 kids after a 9-hour flight) when he came back he found a room with one king bed for FOUR PEOPLE on thethird floor but he didn’t even mention that. So after I went to the room I had to come back and ask for another room with two queen beds. Also, that guy didn’t like my signature on the receip and asked me to redo it in very rude form. Room: shower head broken, ironing board broken, toilet leaking, nasty smell in the room, cards to open the door were discharging all the time, so when you come to the room and find out you cant open the room you have to go to the lobby which is 7min walk to recharge it. Food I would probably rate 2/10. Buffet food don’t have to much choice and doesn’t taste good at all. I give those 2 stars only for food from the restaurants, it was really good but you can go only to 4 restaurants for your stay. Pools they don’t clean well, I saw bunch of dirt swimming on top, and my son got some bacteria and was throwing up all night. I spoke with other people and they got that bacteria too. The beach is really beautiful and there was no sargassum at all. Spa was good too. Most of the stuff doesn’t speak English so you have to translate for them to Spanish with your phone.

We have been coming back to Barcelo for many years and we love the resort. However, we had an issue with the check in this time. We arrived late in the night and were told our reservation was changed from Colonial to the Beach hotel, 1 km away to ride my wheelchair after a long traveling day. I told the associate it is unacceptable, and he needs to honor my reservation at Colonial. It took us half an hour of discussions until he agreed to give us a room at Colonial hotel. Totally unacceptable behavior. If this was our first time at Barcelo, my review would have been one star.

The staff was very nice. Everything was clean and beautiful. The spa was the best experience I’ve ever had at a spa. The buffets were delicious. It was difficult to make reservations at the restaurants and when we arrived, we could barely get into any of them. This should be an option to book before arrival or through an app.

Beautiful property, great beach and pool. Front desk was under staffed, bartenders were understaffed. Took a property transport to Playa and had issues finding their drop off again as it is tucked down a little side street, they got mad at me when I asked a taxi for directions to their drop off, apparently transports and taxis don’t get along…who knew?

Overall the property is well kept , we had issues with our room the first night. Issues were taken care of right away, after we made them aware of it. The food is ok, not great . Most of it looks good , but very bland . To get a dine in restaurant , you must reserve in advance .Some restaurants weren’t available during our stay . Food at the restaurants we did eat , were ok. The pool area is great, with a really cool kids area ! The beach area is great! There are 2 swim up bars . Theres very few wait staff for such a big bar area . Theres a shopping center with a sports bar . That bar has 24hr snack Buffet. The beach doesn’t have drink service either . Keep in mind there are other properties attached , but we only stayed at the Colonial. Also the property is one hour 25 minutes from the airport . Keep that in mind if you don’t like to be late .

Loved this place. So many options to eat, drink and relax!! Very well kept beach with activities to enjoy. We spent a week and could have easily gone for 2 or 3 without getting bored. Highly recommend it for couples or families!! Also, we bought a package through Expedia and saved a lot.

Beautiful resort with a perfect beach for snorkeling. Food, service and entertainment was good but what really put it over the top was inclusion of water sport activities, daytime mini golf and walkable distance to several cenotes. We hope to stay again.

We had such an excellent trip to the Barcelo Maya Colonial! As a family with children (7 & 14) we have been to the area three times now. This was, by far, our favorite trip to date. The 5 resorts are all essentially linked together. You stay in one but can use any of the pools, restaurants, and activities at all of them. There is a double-decker bus that makes stops all around the complex and runs almost 24/7.

This is a wonderful property. Snorkeling is fantastic. The kids slide area is perfect for all age kids. The facilities are very clean and well kept. The food and the details they take for the kid’s desserts to make them feel special, is unparalleled. I appreciate all loud music ends by 10:00pm. I love taking my family to this property. It did not earn 5 stars this visit. The check in process was cumbersome. The room wasn’t ready at the time promised, and it was up to the customer to check in every so often to see when the room would be ready after that. I would have appreciated a “we’re so sorry your room wasn’t ready at the time promised, let me get your number so we can let you know as soon as it is so you can enjoy your time at the property” I didn’t appreciate the homework. The expectation as to what to do with all of our luggage while we waited was not explained until we came back and asked for the process, nor was the luggage offered to be delivered upon our arrival to the room at any point. I know this being a Barcelo property they will make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else and use this experience to learn and grow.

The beach areas are nice, however it is quite difficult getting into the water, although it seems like a sandy beach, there are a lot sharp rocks at the bottom of the sea. Check out the eco park Kantun-chi across the highway, the underground river tour was amazing.

The only disappointment was the inability to make restaurant reservations in advance. Spent 5 nights at the Maya Colonial, but really it is the Barcelo resort as each resort is interconnected and you can move freely between them. The rooms are quite comfortable and fairly clean, but they are COLD. No matter what you do to the thermostat, the room stays about 17*C or 62*F. The blankets keep you warm in bed, but it is not pleasant walking around the room or sitting on the couch. Buffet is pretty good, but this is the first all-inclusive where you are limited on how many time you can eat at the actual restaurants instead of the buffet. Additionally, you cannot book the restaurants prior to check in; we checked in and immediately went to guest services to reserve the teppenyaki grill and it was booked up for the entirety of our stay. In fact, out of all the restaurants included in Barcelo, only one restaurant was available the entire week, so we couldn't even try a second restaurant. This was pretty aggrivating. The evening shows are pretty impressive in scale and production value, but were singing and dancing every night. Having a variety show, a comedy show, a magic show -anything else- would have broken up the monotony of singing and dancing every night. We ended up not going our last two nights as we didn't feel like it was entertaining. Beach was much better than expected due to reports of seaweed, but it was super clear. No beach bar though, you need to go to the pool bar and walk back and forth. Drinks are made very strong.

You can plainly see all staff work so hard, but tourists are annoying. Limes and other mystery stuff floating in the pools. Along with so much beach sand at the bottom. But the pools are empty after dinner. An evening swim was wonderful. Very safe to leave your belongings at the chairs or hammocks. Not enough shade around the pool, for me personally. The beaches were the best part. The ocean is so warm! The birds arent annoying like Canadian seagulls. They are just hanging out and catching fish. Plenty of shade at the beach with the palm trees. The beach is also dead 4pm onwards. It's also nice and windy, you won't overheat.

Clean room and resort overall, so many activities to do. Bowling, large interactive games, go carts, surfing, wind sailing, kayaking, mini golf are just some of the free activities this resort offers. We went diving and jet skiing also. Excellent staff very helpful with any issues. The food at the buffet was good overall except the breakfast it always seemed a little cold. We ate dinner at the steak house, Italian and Brazilian, all were excellent food and service.

The staff was very nice. Everything was clean and beautiful. The spa was the best experience I’ve ever had at a spa. The buffets were delicious. It was difficult to make reservations at the restaurants and when we arrived, we could barely get into any of them. This should be an option to book before arrival or through an app.

The hotel is great, well maintained , great location although a bit far from the airport but worth the trip, the buffet is very good as well, the only downside is the sargazo on the beach but other than that we had a great experience.

Resort was incredibly clean and beautiful. There was a ton to do so no need to schedule excursions. We saw/swam with sea turtles, octopus, stingray’s and many different fish right off beach. There is property is massive and the food is incredible at all buffets and restaurants. I promise you will not be disappointed.
