This was our second time at Maya Riviera and we are already making plans to bring our kids with us next time to one of the other Maya Grand resorts on the complex. The rooms was clean and well cared for, service was great, and all of the employees are very kind and helpful. The only downfalls we had this time around was that the pools were colder (I’m a freeze baby) and we had reservations for water activities cancelled due to wind changes that we don’t learn about until we walked all the way over there. They are also doing some construction on the main entryway that looks like it was due to some damage and that was pretty loud during the day but it didn’t really impact us as we were in the premium rooms at the far end of the resort. Wish we could have stayed longer as there was still plenty to do on the complex that we didn’t get to! We will be happy to go back!

This place is really very nice and 1st class all the way. Buffet closes at 6 pm and that is a small problem but specialty restaurants are great and excellant food. No wait staff on the beach is also a small problem. The ocean here is not quite as walkable (bring water shoes) as the Palace which is family oriented and a much better ocean for cleanliness and water quality. Nice resort - way bigger than I could have imagined. We did upgrade to premium which meant our rooms were far from lobby but quiet. LOTS OF WALKING! No nightly turn down even though it said we should get that feature, and 1 room had hot water problems for 1 day of our stay. Reservations- get them in when you get there! Lobby bars including Premium were not ready @ 7am for coffee or the buffets there were not ready (7am) when we expected them to be. Also, premium liquor was not flowing for us, we had to ask - and sometimes it seemed like the bartender did not want to pour what we asked for. Overall nice stay, but I am "Secrets spoiled" ( if you've ever stayed at secrets, you will know what I mean) so take that into consideration. Food was 3.5/5 for buffet, and 4 course dinners 4.5/5. Waiters always very nice and helpful. Did not see a lot of people tipping, but we like to tip at AI so that did not deter us. They try really hard to keep the resort clean, but seaweed was abundant. Not sure they could do much more. Drink service on beach would be a nice addition.

I stayed at this hotel earlier this month due to the reviews and it was underwhelming compared to what the reviews say. Beautiful property, the grounds is beautiful, but it wasn’t the cleanest in the halls walking to the hotel rooms especially compared to other places I’ve stayed while visiting Mexico. Lobby furniture smells. Watched trash and dishes sit in the same spot outside of room doors for 2 days before it was cleaned up. It definitely needs updating. There was construction going on in front of the hotel. We had to be moved from one room to another due to cleanliness issues, the tables and counters still had dirt and smudges from the previous guest. The TV was in Spanish for our entire stay, and there was no way to change it. The buffet closed at 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Had to make reservations for other restaurants. The pool was probably the best part of this hotel, but the pools close at 8. The drinks were watered down. No room service. The food choices weren’t that great. The beach seemed man made and very hard. The workers spoke minimal English, which wasn’t a problem because I used a translator, but they didn’t seem very approachable or friendly. The hotel had buses to take you to other Barcelo properties nearby and the mall, or you could walk. The arcade was okay, and I enjoyed the escape room. Make sure to bring cash, every ATM was out of order, and I wanted to tip. Overall, I feel like this hotel gave the bare minimum. I would not stay here again.

The staff is impeccable and truly what made our stay so enjoyable. Very accommodating and the resort itself is very well kept. We saw staff all throughout the day sweeping, mopping and tidying up all areas, even down to picking up all empty glasses around the pool, beach and any lounging areas so there were none just laying around which added more of a modern, clean and minimalist feel the resort had compared to the other neighboring resorts.

The place itself is absolutely beautiful, drinks are plentiful and the amenities are great! There is always something to do. Most of the staff were proficient at their jobs, which is fine. Not a lot of smiles being thrown out, but that's just a bonus I guess. The pool is beautiful, but quite dirty. The grounds are beautiful and the staff is always cleaning something which is nice. The maids are horrible! They stole $20 from a zipped closed medical bag on the counter in our room and didn't replenish anything in the room except towels the entire 8 nights we were there (despite tipping well and asking for items we needed) I did not enjoy any of the food, but my friend didn't mind it, so I will give it a 3.5/10 All in all, it was a fun trip with a big damper due to the theft. I don't think I would go back to this resort ever.

Everything was amazing. Literally paradise. Only complaint would be that the rooms are hot and muggy. The lowest temperature that the thermostat would let you put it was 21.5 c. I called the front desk to see if they could override it and they said no. It was so humid in the room the bed felt damp the entire time. They need dehumidifiers or something. Other than that everything was perfect. That small issue wouldn’t keep me from going back.

Our room had a musty odor, the AC vent was uncovered revealing a large rectangular hole and the vent itself was sitting on the counter. Our TV was broken and the overall decor was lacking. Taking our issues to reception they wanted to downgrade our room but ultimately moved us to a comparable room on a higher level but it was directly above the Bahía DJ club and was very loud, one of the best beds I’ve had. The pool and beach are great and service was on point. The buffet surprisingly good, the hibachi restaurant was average at best.

Wonderful adults only property with very nice beach! Four infinity pools side by side offer lots of swimming options. Live music nightly in the lobby area from 9:00 pm until midnight, which is very loud and can be heard in the rooms which are closer to the lobby. Bring ear plugs if you are planning on going to bed before midnight! Guests have access to the adjacent sister resorts, Beach, Caribe, Colonial, Tropical, and Palace. Lots to explore!

Best, largest pool ever! Balcony view was beautiful and hot tub on deck was amazing. Walk out to beach wonderful. Staff friendly though sometimes hard to understand. Miramar Buffett was our least favorite part of the stay. Often stale churros and cookies and Luke warm food that wasn’t the best. But the restaurants made up for it.

We liked that the rooms were clean, spacious and had a great view of the ocean. The dining options are excellent and the mirabar buffet for breakfast and lunch is adequate. What we didn't like was the fact that we were right next to lobby area and they had DJ nights and music blaring all 4 nights that we were there till almost 2-3 AM in the morning. We were there for a relaxing vacation. To get out of the noise and hullabaloo of our city life and this kept us awake at nights. Frustrated and exhausted. We complained to the Reception and resort management and their responses were outright rude . I liked my stay but wouldn't come back here

Very different from our last visit. The atmosphere has changed significantly — now much more party-focused. Our room was very close to the party area, and noise from the pool bar continued well into the night, with the party starting around 9 PM. If you enjoy loud, lively nightlife, this may be a great spot for you. However, the staff seemed overwhelmed and didn’t have time to offer beachside drink service like before. Not ideal if you’re looking for a relaxing, quiet getaway.

The resort on the Adults Only side is beautiful. What we were disappointed with is that staff was not friendly or helpful (specifically bell hops and wait staff at the pool). Check in took almost 2 hours. No food at the pool, no drink staff on the beach. Buffet closed at 6pm. Snack bars in both regular lobby and premier lobby were horrible.

I have been coming to the Barceló hotels for at least 12 years now and have had about 16 stays total. First at barcelo tropical, then barcelo palace and now since the adults only barcelo riviera opened I’ve been staying here. The service, food, room amenities have been steadily declining over the last 5 years that I’ve been coming. This trip was a constant issue with having our room restocked with waters and the pool person not giving us extra towels (but not following the same rules with other visitors). It’s the little things but compared to when I first started coming here the service just is not what it was. The beach is great here and the pool areas are nice. The hotel is very clean. The rooms do smell like mold and you can’t keep the AC on which causes the room to always be humid. Anyways, although I used to love coming to this hotel and love going to Mexico after so many years I will be looking for a new resort to stay at.

Overall all my stay was good. We got the premium package which included room service, except my room phone was not working so we had to walk down to the lobby to order. We were on the fifth floor. I notified them a total of 4 times within my first 3 days and finally after showing up angry to the front desk on day 3 because then the TV and Wi-Fi stopped working as well they finally fixed everything broken in my room. Other than that everything was great! Staff was friendly. Restaurants were delicious! Buffet was ehh could be better. Over all good!

Service and Management is a big miss. The buffet was terribly staffed and constantly ran out of food items. Additionally they were overwhelmed by convention center attendees. The reservations for dinner is unavailable. We stayed 4 days and was unable to get any reservations, just unacceptable. Staff lacked empathy or any desire to improve service. Room service does not come everyday and i had to call daily. Mini fridge was not restocked and guest services did not help. Quality of alcohol is poor, definitely not premium. Coffee machine constantly broken and as beautifully constructed resort, the staffing needs to be increased. We frequent MX about 5 times annually and we wont return, simply not justified for the price.

We have been to several all inclusive resorts. This resort was clean, well maintained and well staffed. The negatives are it's huge over 800 rms and a mile long from the Riviera resort to the Palace resort. Ok so really big, they have a cool dbl decker bus but it was running every 30 min when we we're there, it was faster to walk. As far as check in we emailed 2 wks prior that we would be checking in early and wanted to check in early. All other emails answered about the salon, photographer and events, yet radio silent when we asked for an early checkin. We were told our room would be ready at 3 😕. We walked down to the room we were told we were getting, it was ready, per cleaning staff. Went back to the front desk, notified them and were questioned then they called the cleaning staff verified and were allowed to check in at 1:30ish. Waited several hrs which is why we decided to check ourselves. We also noted multiple times it was our anniversary. 0 recognition, nothing special was done. We got strawberries for visiting the resort?!? The food was meh.... Lots of choices, he steaks grilled to order was a pleasant surprise. Food was not well seasoned. The reservation restaurants were great though. I sat outside several times in the morning for breakfast and had to ask for water, silverware and salt/pepper, basically someone to wait on me. Overall the resort is clean, lots of seating, lots of staff, snorkeling is OK and yes the ladder off the dock is tretchorious, very slanted

I chose Barcelo Maya Riviera because it is adults only. It is also close to being right in the middle of Cancun and Tulum. We planned 2 day trips outside of our resort, Tulum ruins and Cozumel. Our resort has a deal with the taxi service. For $120, they pick us up, take us to Tulum, wait for us for 2 hrs and then bring us back. For Cozumel, the bell hop called us a taxi to drop us off at the ferry. We gave our driver a return time and met her at the same place It was confusing getting to the actual ferry from the taxi drop off. The ferry ride is rough, bring dramamine. As for the resort itself, we felt super safe. It's gated with a guard. You get a wristband that lets you into your room and allows access to any of the connecting resorts. The restraunts are spread out with 4 or so at each resort. Make all your reservations at guest services when you arrive. Long pants and shoes for men).The buffets were decent. There are 4 pools with 2 swim up bars. Downside - it was like bath water, it was so hot. You get a towel card to exchange for one towel. There is a shuttle(no air)that takes you to any of the resorts, mall or market. Not much entertainment at the Riviera, just saxaphonist and violinist, dJ. The other resorts have theatres that you can go to. The Palace is indoors and has air conditioning. The beaches are pretty rocky(wear water shoes). Lots of turtles and fish to see. The shops are expensive, pack everything you will need. Bandages were $7usd, sunscreen $30usd.

This was our third stay, and we enjoyed it. The property is starting to show a little wear and tear. The 5th floor in particular is having fairly significant water issues when it rains. There were areas in the halls with very large puddles of water, and large plastic bins in areas to catch water falling from the the ceiling. Despite this, the property remains an excellent value for the money with great staff, fantastic pool, better than average food, and a good beach (best stretch in neighboring accessible Barcelo property). Dinner restaurants are very good for all inclusive resorts with the Taqueria our favorite. A lot of great waiters like Elena at Agave, Luis at La Comedie, and the entire crew who handles the outside area of the buffet. A pet peeve for some is the card required to get a beach towel which is strictly enforced.

We stayed at the AO Barcelo Maya Riveria. We didn’t realize in order to get to other areas like the shopping plaza, discoteca, etc you have to take a bus to get there and back. The property is huge and not walkable. That being said there were great dinner options and overall we were happy with our stay.

We had a fantastic time at Barcelo Maya Riviera. It’s big but well executed. Super clean, modern resort with good food, drinks and the largest pool we’ve ever seen. They clean the beach throughout the night to keep it free of sargassum. Premium upgrade was worth it for best views, preferred dinner reservations and upgrade to Patron for the best margaritas. All staff were friendly and ready to accommodate any request. The room was modern and gorgeous with an HUGE comfortable bed. And don’t miss the free daily hydrotherapy at the spa. It was amazing!! Also had an outstanding massage and facial. The double decker bus runs frequently and makes it easy to travel to other resorts. the spa and club day or night. We also visited the 3 cenotes located right across the street. Yes, you can walk to 3 cenotes: Azul, Eden and Cristalino. We have vacationed at A LOT of all inclusives and this one was superior by far. We’ll definitely be returning!

The only thing that needs adjustment is the availability of restaurants to the guests that aren't in the premium level. Every night at all the reservation time slots there are multiple tables empty but they tell you it's booked. They save spots for the premium level guests. That leave very early or very late openings for the rest of the guests. Hopefully you don't get shut out.

Stayed for 4 days. Overall the place is pretty good, buffet is nothing spectacular. Went to 3/4 restaurants on the actual property. There is a strict dress code and they will not seat you without following it so keep that in mind. Everything but the Mexican restaurant I would recommend. The Italian and the hibachi were amazing. The air conditioning in the rooms were okay, not the best. The staff was amazingly friendly and the drinks were not watered down and fast to come out! The commute from the airport was a little rough, booked through MTX and honestly wouldn’t recommend due to how far away it is from the airport, a 1hr commute turned into 2 1/2 hours. The ride back to the airport after the stay though we didn’t have any problems. The pools were clean, rooms were cleaned daily.

The resort on the Adults Only side is beautiful. What we were disappointed with is that staff was not friendly or helpful (specifically bell hops and wait staff at the pool). Check in took almost 2 hours. No food at the pool, no drink staff on the beach. Buffet closed at 6pm. Snack bars in both regular lobby and premier lobby were horrible.

Our stay at the Adults only Barcelo' was fantastic! From check in to checking out everything was above standard. We had dinner at the Seafood Restaurant. I had lobster and it was delicious!

Negatives: the beach was not good due to the sargassum weed problem. Luckily you have access to the other properties where you can find slightly better beaches but nothing great. Food at the buffet was really subpar. Literally the worse I’ve experienced in all the resorts I’ve been to. No quick food options poolside. Although we were ok with it, if you are into daily itinerary of entertainment, this is not the place for you. Another subpar aspect of this resort. Again, you have access to the other resorts and can go enjoy other activities there, but must take long walks or long shuttle rides which can be quite inconvenient. Pros: beautiful property. Huge pools. Expansive beaches. If you are in to rest and relaxation, this is the resort for you. Although the buffet is not very good, they make up for it with the great reservation only restaurants. Italian, French, Japanese and Mexican. The Mexican taco bar was excellent. Make sure to reserve a spot at all these restaurants nightly. You have Access to all the other resorts. They have a mall area with a casino, mini golf, bowling. Although it can be a bit time consuming you can explore the many other properties there.

Best, largest pool ever! Balcony view was beautiful and hot tub on deck was amazing. Walk out to beach wonderful. Staff friendly though sometimes hard to understand. Miramar Buffett was our least favorite part of the stay. Often stale churros and cookies and Luke warm food that wasn’t the best. But the restaurants made up for it.

This place is really very nice and 1st class all the way. Buffet closes at 6 pm and that is a small problem but specialty restaurants are great and excellant food. No wait staff on the beach is also a small problem. The ocean here is not quite as walkable (bring water shoes) as the Palace which is family oriented and a much better ocean for cleanliness and water quality. In room coffee was hit or miss with our maid service. Great place overall! Matt from Texas
