Property has palms trees on the beach with plenty of shade and a nice soft sandbar to enjoy the ocean (a few feet a rocks to brave but then a large sand bar). Lots of seating on the beach. Great pools but not enough seating around the pools. Great overall experience. Our biggest complaint was lots of late night noise after the onsite clubs close. This seemed to correlate to local spring break/university crowd. Walls are thin so the after parties in the atrium of the hotel carried noise into our room and woke us up several nights. If security would have prevented these parties (complaints were made directly to party and to desk), then this would have been a wonderful trip.

The Barcelo Maya is a great all inclusive resort with surprisingly great buffets. It is ideal for families and couples alike. The service staff are incredibly kind and attentive. The restaurants are about on par for all inclusive style restaurants. The Lindo stood out and the other booking choices were fun with great experiences. The hours for the buffets could use an evaluation, it would be nice to keep them open for longer hours to all the families that did not choose premier option. The rooms were a bit outdated but the A/C worked and housekeeping was attentive and very detailed. The pools were clean for the most part. There is volleyball in and out of the pool that you can rent balls for at the hut by the beach that you get towels at. Also, the gift shop in this hut has better prices.They could use 1 to 2 more staff at the swim up bars during peak times in the afternoon and evenings. We found that just quickly getting out of the pool and going to the walk up bartender in front of the buffet lodges, was much faster. The shows are fun throughout the week, Michael Jackson and Karaoke night were very entertaining. The mall and merchant booths are fun at night after dinners. The merchants are willing to negotiate and they have nice keepsakes and typical tourist type gifts and clothing. The wave ride, mini golf and bowling are fun options. During the day mini golf is free and bowling is BOGO, so a good time to go. There is also food and bar that is 24 hr in the blowing alley.

This is a great all inclusive resort. Many restaurants and bars to choose from. We loved spending time at the swim up bars and the beach was beautiful. This place has everything you need on the property including a shopping mall, bowling alley and sports bar.

Barcelo is a great resort. It is very safe. A lot of food varieties. The only down size is the room AC because it needs to be more cold. They need to have more professional shows.

Serious shortages of lounge chairs by the pool and at the beach. People 'reserved' chairs by leaving their towels, but there was hardly anyone there yet nowhere to sit and relax by the pool. Early reservations at the restaurants were not available if you did not tip the person making the booking.

We stayed at Barcelo Maya Beach from Jan 28 to Feb 2. The resort is massive, and as a guest, you have access to 4 or 5 hotels within the complex, meaning you can use their restaurants, bars, buffets, pools, beaches, lobbies, entertainment venues, and more. The hotel lobbies, gardens, and pools are absolutely stunning, with plenty of lush greenery. The beach is beautiful! Bring water shoes because the water is murky for the first 200 feet (about 60 meters), and there are many underwater rocks. Stingrays also swim in the shallow areas—I even accidentally stepped on one, so be careful! The downsides of the hotel: Not enough lounge chairs – This is the most frustrating issue. There are simply not enough loungers for all guests. People wake up before dawn just to place their towels and "reserve" chairs. By 8 AM, every lounger by the beach and pool was already taken. The problem is that many guests don’t actually show up until midday, leaving others without a place to sit. Meanwhile, there is plenty of space on the beach and around the pool for at least twice as many loungers, but for some reason, the hotel doesn’t provide enough. Limited à la carte restaurant reservations – For our 5-night stay, we were only allowed 2 reservations at the à la carte restaurants.The food in these restaurants was almost the same as in the buffet. As for drinks, don’t expect high-quality cocktails. The hotel is worth it for the price, offering good value for money.The staff was very kind.

The cleanliness of this property is extremely questionable. I check the mattress in every hotel room I stay in and this mattress was by far the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. The staff is very dismissive and almost makes you feel like you're a bother to them when you ask questions. They just want you to spend your money and shut up. All the restaurants at the resort were booked for our entire stay, so the only option we had was the buffet. There was one particular staff member at the bowling alley who refused to take our purchase because she already closed ALL 3 registers. It was 11 pm and the place was supposed to be open until 2 AM. I paid for my 6-year-old son to do the dolphin swim but unfortunately, he had a cut on his foot and the salt water was causing it to burn. He immediately got out of the water and no longer wanted to do the activity. They refused to give me a refund and were not accommodating. They made me feel terrible as if I was trying to steal from them. Very dismissive and unpleasant staff. I truly will not recommend.

As soon as we got there we had issues with the AC. It was super dirty and the first time we asked for it to be cleaned we later found out the order was never even entered. Then they promised for it to be cleaned only for us to wake up the next day and it leaking everywhere. By night 2 it was leaking everywhere and looked like it was falling. We had to argue to even get a room change & mind you I was with a baby. My son ended up developing a cough from having to sleep in a room with a bad air conditioner for 2 nights. If it was not for this, I would have not had any issues. But to not change accommodate your guest right away when it’s something like that, especially when traveling with a baby, is unacceptable.

Ça fait la troisième fois que l’on vient dans cet établissement et tout est très agréable. Nous venons essentiellement pour la magnifique plage où l’on peut apercevoir des poissons, des raies et même des tortues si on a de la chance. La propreté est partout et sans faille !

Second time visiting. First time was 6 years ago. They do a great job with keeping the resort up to date and clean. One of the nicest resorts we have been to. We have nothing to complain about. Hope to be back again.

So far it is a great resort, we really enjoyed it. Only open point I have is that the room is kind an old, there was no air ventilation, so the humidity from shower is coming inside the room. Secondly, we couldn’t control the air condition, so most of the time it was cold, and you needed to turn it off completely. Thank you

The resort is on the beach with lots of activities and as a bonus you have access to the other Barcelo facilities. The staff were very friendly, the food was good and overall the facilities were clean. The only downside: the rooms and ventilation system could use an update.

Huge, clean, green, beautiful territory of hotels with a lot of things to do. Good service, staff. Tasty and various food, many restaurants (you need to reserve a spot there in advance). Shops, Mexican market. Many sports and activities. Good beach of the hotel Maya Beach. I wasn't satisfied with a bathroom in our room. Leaky shower, bathtub with rust and wobbly glass curtain - you don't expect these things from the 5 star hotel. I get it all rooms at the Barcelo Maya Beach are pretty the same level and not new. But they plan to renovate their bathrooms. If they do, we would return)

As soon as we got there we had issues with the AC. It was super dirty and the first time we asked for it to be cleaned we later found out the order was never even entered. Then they promised for it to be cleaned only for us to wake up the next day and it leaking everywhere. By night 2 it was leaking everywhere and looked like it was falling. We had to argue to even get a room change & mind you I was with a baby. My son ended up developing a cough from having to sleep in a room with a bad air conditioner for 2 nights. If it was not for this, I would have not had any issues. But to not change accommodate your guest right away when it’s something like that, especially when traveling with a baby, is unacceptable.

We were at the Beach property and never received a warm welcome or friendly service from any of the general staff, bar tenders or poolside waitresses (of which there were few). The front desk staff were especially un-helpful. I had my phone stolen off a beach chair and they could have been less than concerned about it. No empathy or interest at all. In fact while we were TOLD to go check in at the Premier Lobby, they made it seem like that area was part of our package. The next day we had to go back for new bracelets and when we grabbed a snack & drinks, the desk clerk came and chastised us, saying that WE were not Premier and couldn't use the facility because we booked with Expedia. The only saving grace was the one Mexican Restaurant off the lobby, which had decent food and the best service of all. Sadly, our other dining experience were nothing to write home about. While the beach was nice, there were no drink servers at the beach chairs and no food/snacks available poolside. Unfortunately, it all started poorly, when we arrived in our (run-down) room to find a padded railing on the pull-out bed was broken and just laying on the floor, the cover for the outdoor light was sitting on the patio table and the air conditioning was not working. Luckily, they did send someone up to handle the air conditioning but never addressed the other issues. Overall, having been to several other all-inclusive resorts in the area, I would say this one we will not go back to

First, we were moved from Barceló Maya Beach to Riviera without even being asked. Normally, I would not have minded as I prefer Adults Only resorts. However, I booked where I booked because I wanted to experience the vivid and bright colours, Mexican influenced architecture, and warm ambience of Beach. I had been looking forward to visiting Barcelo Maya for 16 years. Instead, I got the coldness of white and highly modern character of architecture I experience daily at home. Second, not only was my room not ready when I was told it would be ready, the staff kept pushing its availability back by 1 hr at a time. One of the staff, while dealing with this issue, packed up her things left for the day without passing things on to another person. I did not even know she had left until someone else approached me to ask if I had been helped. Overall, the trip ended up on a “meh” impression. It is definitely not high on my list of places to return to, now.

Everything is overbooked: when we got to the Maya Beach resort we were told we were moved to a different resort on their property even though we had booked and confirmed rooms months earlier. Check in took over 2 hours by the time we sorted it out. We were moved to another resort on property, Maya Caribe which wasn’t too far away but was not what we booked. No upgrades or compensation was given. The check in staff at Maya Beach was very unhelpful during this whole ordeal although other resort staff were very friendly. We also could not book any reservations in any restaurants during our stay and had to eat at the buffet for our meals. The buffet food was very bland and all started tasting the same. The pools are very nice and the beaches and snorkelling were good. We also enjoyed the fitness centre. I would not book here again however.

Extremely disappointed in this place. The check in was a nightmare the receptionist was rude from the second I walked up, she was not trained correctly because had no idea about anything when it came to the resort. They have these nice restaurants that you have to make reservations for I asked if the food at those restaurants were included in the all inclusive she said no that it was extra, so we just made one reservation on our last night there to one of them out of 4, well when we get to our reservation we find out that it is included, meaning we could have tried all of them, because trust me the buffet food that we thought we only included was not all that great. Our room was Uhg the ac didn’t work, the hair dryer sparked and basically killed all the plugs in the room including tv, and fridge then I’m told they can’t change my room till 3 pm the next day so there goes our first day at this place, when they finally change us the entrance door needed like 3 people to push this thing open it was so hard to open and close but atleast the ac worked. At check in I was charged more than what Expedia said, which I did not make a big deal about until this girl calls me at 930 pm to tell me that I still owe a very low amount like why would you call so late for that amount I found that so unprofessional. The market tries to up charge everything. The place won’t let you use outside transportation because they want you to pay their expensive prices.

The resort is on the beach with lots of activities and as a bonus you have access to the other Barcelo facilities. The staff were very friendly, the food was good and overall the facilities were clean. The only downside: the rooms and ventilation system could use an update.

Shops, Mexican market. Many sports and activities. Good beach of the hotel Maya Beach. I wasn't satisfied with a bathroom in our room. Leaky shower, bathtub with rust and wobbly glass curtain - you don't expect these things from the 5 star hotel. I get it all rooms at the Barcelo Maya Beach are pretty the same level and not new. But they plan to renovate their bathrooms. If they do, we would return)

What we liked: the beach at the Beach Resort is the only option to swim without rocks. It was great and we were lucky to have no seaweed. The gym was fantastic. The spa and hydrotherapy services were great! What we didn't like: making dinner reservations was very difficult, even doing so right after check-in. Steak and seafood restaurants were totally booked. Hotel key stopped working 3 times. Had to pay $12USD per room for ecological/environmental tax upon check-in. However, this is not an environmentally friendly hotel. Only plastic bottles for water are available. Other hotels have a filtering system to fill up water bottles. You can imagine how many water bottles are given out on a daily basis! At the Beach Resort, there are no activities by the pool and no music. We had to walk up to the other hotels if we wanted to partake. Some of the water fountains in the pool were not working on multiple days. The Beach/Caribe buffets were closed 2 days for lunch. We walked up from the beach to be told it was closed for maintenance. We did not like the poolside buffet at the Beach resort (very limited menu and cool (not warm/hot) food. Minor but will note, no face clothes/wash clothes in the rooms. One or 2 fruity drinks were ok, but we drank mostly beer (modelo) all week. There is a good variety of food in buffets, but was not hot in most cases. Overall, we made the best of our trip, but will look at another hotel next time.

The hotel Buffett restaurant was closed most of the time and we had to go to the next hotel restaurant to have breakfast and dinner. The lunch was only available at the next hotel beach restaurant, not at the main buffet, so we had to walk a lot for every meal. At 5 PM at our hotel swimming pool bar the was not beer available, not draft, not canned beer, any beer at all!! The lobby bar was closed the last day of our stay. Customer service office only allowed us to reserve 1 specialty restaurant during our entire stay, which was 4 nights and 5 days.

The Barcelo Maya is a great all inclusive resort with surprisingly great buffets. It is ideal for families and couples alike. The service staff are incredibly kind and attentive. The restaurants are about on par for all inclusive style restaurants. The Lindo stood out and the other booking choices were fun with great experiences. The hours for the buffets could use an evaluation, it would be nice to keep them open for longer hours to all the families that did not choose premier option. The rooms were a bit outdated but the A/C worked and housekeeping was attentive and very detailed. The pools were clean for the most part. There is volleyball in and out of the pool that you can rent balls for at the hut by the beach that you get towels at. Also, the gift shop in this hut has better prices.They could use 1 to 2 more staff at the swim up bars during peak times in the afternoon and evenings. We found that just quickly getting out of the pool and going to the walk up bartender in front of the buffet lodges, was much faster. The shows are fun throughout the week, Michael Jackson and Karaoke night were very entertaining. The mall and merchant booths are fun at night after dinners. We stayed at Barcelo Maya Beach from Jan 28 to Feb 2. The resort is massive, and as a guest, you have access to 4 or 5 hotels within the complex, meaning you can use their restaurants, bars, buffets, pools, beaches, lobbies, entertainment venues, and more. The hotel lobbies, gardens, and pools are absolutely stunning, with plenty of lush greenery. The beach is beautiful! Bring water shoes because the water is murky for the first 200 feet (about 60 meters), and there are many underwater rocks. Stingrays also swim in the shallow areas—I even accidentally stepped on one, so be careful! The downsides of the hotel: Not enough lounge chairs – This is the most frustrating issue. There are simply not enough loungers for all guests. People wake up before dawn just to place their towels and "reserve" chairs. By 8 AM, every lounger by the beach and pool was already taken. The problem is that many guests don’t actually show up until midday, leaving others without a place to sit. Meanwhile, there is plenty of space on the beach and around the pool for at least twice as many loungers, but for some reason, the hotel doesn’t provide enough. Limited à la carte restaurant reservations – For our 5-night stay, we were only allowed 2 reservations at the à la carte restaurants.The food in these restaurants was almost the same as in the buffet. As for drinks, don’t expect high-quality cocktails. The hotel is worth it for the price, offering good value for money.The staff was very kind.

The problem is that many guests don’t actually show up until midday, leaving others without a place to sit. Meanwhile, there is plenty of space on the beach and around the pool for at least twice as many loungers, but for some reason, the hotel doesn’t provide enough. Limited à la carte restaurant reservations – For our 5-night stay, we were only allowed 2 reservations at the à la carte restaurants.The food in these restaurants was almost the same as in the buffet. As for drinks, don’t expect high-quality cocktails. The hotel is worth it for the price, offering good value for money.The staff was very kind.

We recently stayed at Barceló Maya Beach and had a good overall experience. The beach is had seaweed but we walked over to the colonial beach and it was much better, the grounds are well maintained, and there are plenty of activities for children. What really stood out was the exceptional service. A special thank you to Selene at the breakfast buffet, who always greeted us with a smile and made our mornings enjoyable. Ileny at the pool provided outstanding service and was incredibly attentive throughout our stay. We also had a great time with Gabriel from the entertainment team—he brought so much energy and fun to the daily activities! The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that some areas of the hotel feel a bit outdated and could benefit from renovations. However, the excellent staff and beautiful resort amenities more than made up for it. Overall, we had a great vacation and would recommend Barceló Maya Beach to families and anyone looking for a getaway with kids in the Riviera Maya.
