It is a lovely resort hotel and the staff was very helpful and welcoming. There is a shuttle bus that is able to pick you up free of charge from the train station. You have to book in advance but I highly recommend it as this hotel is not really close to anything and it makes it much easier. There were 3 of us sharing a room and it was a very large room with enough space for 3 and a lovely view. As this resort is a bit isolated at night and restaurants may not be open offsite, you might be stuck eating at 1 of their 3 restaurants. Warning that it is very expensive. 9000yen per person for the buffet dinner. Which, needless to say, is mediocre, as most buffets are. The beer in the room fridge is the cheapest on site. Onsen does not allow tattoos.

The property itself is undeniably beautiful—nestled right by the lake with serene views and a peaceful atmosphere. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and the food was reasonably good. However, all of that is completely overshadowed by one major issue: the discriminatory ban on tattooed guests using the onsen. Nowhere in the hotel rules or booking information was this restriction disclosed. Had I known, I would have never booked this hotel. Being refused access to a key amenity that is part of the experience—especially in a hotel of this caliber—is incredibly disappointing and feels exclusionary. It’s 2025. This kind of outdated policy should either be reconsidered or clearly communicated upfront. Beautiful setting or not, I won’t be returning—and I hope others take this into consideration before booking.

全体的には綺麗に保たれているし、温泉に行く時の上着も着やすいしとても良かったです。しいて言うなら本館から温泉のある別館に行くときに、一度外に出なくてはいけないので寒いし遠いです。ちょっと迷子になりそうでした（笑）芦ノ湖の遊覧船やロープウェイはお休みで、楽しみが半減でしたが、空気はよいし、眺めも良かったです。

Beautiful hotel, just a little dated. The buffet food was excellent, the staff were really helpful, the rooms felt luxurious, the onsite onsen is very relaxing. Great shuttle service from the train station. The restaurants are quite expensive and it’s a shame there is no bar to enjoy a relaxing drink before dinner. Great local attractions onsite though.

The Prince Hakone Lake Hotel Ashinoko is a high quality hotel directly located at the shores of the Hakone Lake and in walking distance of the cable car. Beautiful hotel with great view of the Lake Ashi. The staff who greeted us and took us to our room was very nice and helpful. Our room was very spacious, clean and comfortable. We had a lake view and it was gorgeous even with the fog. Restaurants had delicious food. The Lakeside grill had lots of options. The bus service to Motohakune was so convenient. Overall an excellent stay.

We stayed for one night in this hotel. Overall we had a great stay. The hotel is located in a very beautiful remote spot, just by the lake. We had a family room with lake view. The room was very spacious and spotless clean, however the furniture and decor were slightly outdated. We enjoyed the hotel amenities especially its beautiful onsen. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The only drawback was that everything was closed at 18:30 when we arrived, so we had to have dinner at the hotel, and had to finish within half an hour the extremely overpriced buffet dinner as they closed at 19:00.

The free shuttle to Odawara Station was very convenient, and the room was spacious and comfortable. beware if you dont have your own car. The place is isolated and the public transportation is not frequent. This leaves you trapped in the evenings because the busses stop around 5 and there are no restraunts nearby. They provide some expensive meals there if you book in advance. The room had a great view, but the room was more of a 2 star quality. There is no air-conditioning and there are mosquitoes. suffer in heat or in bites. it does have a view of mount Fuji. Did not get to try the onsen. 2 stars because hotel did not meet expectations for the price

Nearby attractions include Hakone’s small aquarium and zoo (about 5 minutes away), and the famous floating torii gate and shrine, which is around a 20-minute walk through the woods. I will start with my critic feedback first: the bathroom was like airplane bathroom. The entire room is so good, it has everything what you need , Including the clothes to go to Olsen, but the bathroom is very dated, small and crampy. Staff is 5/5. They want to make sure you are happy and comfortable - their hospitality is a role model for others. Location - the best! Walkable from Tori gate View - the best! Of the lake Ashiniko There are 3 hotels nearby , including a buffet place, where chef would come to you to explain the food for non jap customers, amazing. Overall , I think it’s a great hotel if you are not too bothered about bathroom.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The meals were very good and the location was superb. We enjoyed being able to walk by the water and also enjoyed spectacular views of Mt Fuji during our stay. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

I love the greenery around the hotel and its location next to the lake but the outdoor onsen is quite a distance from the rooms and having to walk there in the cold turned me off. Upon checking out I was annoyed that I had to pay a compulsory bath charge of 150 yen which I think is ridiculous considering that it costs more than 40000 yen to stay one night there. I was also annoyed by the hotel’s lack of response to my request to book the shuttle service from the train station when I messaged them before arrival. Had to telephone them from the train station.

To begin with, the shuttle bus from Odawara station was 15-20 minutes late with no communication to us. The rooms and public spaces needed some tending to (worn carpets, AC that didn't work, etc.) There was no bar at the hotel--and the staff treated us like we were crazy for even asking. The buffet meals were fine--but definitely not for the price point. There were very limited options for things to do at the property (no public sitting room overlooking the lake, no seats outside to take in the scenery, etc.). The staff were not terribly hospitable--not rude, but definitely not concerned with hospitality. It is a hotel with great potential that is poorly managed. All in all, quite disappointing for the price (over $500/night).

I booked through expedia mentioning 2 adults and 2 children(13 and 7). But when i checked in , i was told i have to pay for 2 extra beds which increased my price by 113 USD. I had no other choice other than to pay. The hotel said , it did not register the age of the 2 children so they could not honor the price that expedia promised.

À notre arrivée , l’hôtel n’avait pas connaissance d’une réservation 4 personnes mais pour 2 ( malgré preuve à l’appui de ma réservation hôtels.com). Ils ont absolument voulu faire payer une chambre supplémentaire ! Après 1 heure de conflit , ils ont finalement accepté notre venue !

Aussergewöhnlich guter Service. Sehr sauber, aber in die Jahre gekommen. Wir hatten ein sehr großes Zimmer mit Blick auf den See. Im großen und Ganzen ein sehr schönes Hotel. Die Lage am See ist Top, allerdings ist das Hotel sehr abgelegen.

We enjoyed being on the lake. Dining options were two expensive restaurants or a buffet (which had a nice breakfast! It's an easy walk to one of the sky gondolas and an aquarium. The bus from the train station to the resort was greatly appreciated!

A beautiful property on Lake Ashinoko with stunning views of Mt Fuji. Extremely close to the rope-way that takes you up to the shrine on the mountain with even more breathtaking views. We stayed here at the end of our Japan trip. The service was incredible, everyone was hopping up to help whenever we needed. Huang at the bell service specifically was very helpful to us. She helped us from start to finish. Food is expensive and there really isn’t another breakfast or dinner option around as most restaurants nearby close at 3-4pm. The food was good but not sure about value there. The room was spacious and there was a king bed which is hard to come by in Japan so we enjoyed that. The decor is definitely dated but from what we saw, majority of the clientele are older folks so they probably enjoy it. Atmosphere was very relaxing and we saw Mount Fuji everyday of our trip from the lawn of the hotel. There’s a free shuttle from Okawara Station, just be sure to book in advance on their website and there’s also a free shuttle to and from the town area of Hakone each day which was fabulous. Overall a nice stay.
