Overall good stay, the garden was a high light to walk around at night. Ukulele class at hotel lobby was fun. Swimming pool, water park was packed. Hotel offered ice-cream machine for free and need to take a token from reception but we didn’t know until the day we checked out. Need to see the sign next to the machine, did not look as not too kin on sweet but my children love, wish we knew earlier or was given a token when check in would be more useful. Hotel off ¥5606 for food order as platinum member but was given a VIP lounge pass, it was nice but we do not drink alcohol, food was limited snack but no to our taste, spaces was full when we wen first evening. I prefer cash credit for food order in the future. Thanks

The room was spotless and large, overlooking the mountains. The staff were amazing and extremely attentive always looking to be helpful. If the lobby is busy they still greet you at the door and lead you to a place to sit while waiting to check-in. The onsens were extremely clean and tidy. One staff member was usually present in the change room to tidy up and restock and also to walk through the onsens to ensure people were following the rules. The views from both public onsens were 10/10 (they swap male and female public onsens overnight so both onsens can be experienced). They also have unlimited free vending machine ice cream. Their dinner buffet may be the best thing I’ve ever eaten in Japan - I could’ve cried the first time I had their fatty tuna nigiri. I still think about the food at Tenyu weeks later. When you leave the staff wave goodbye and bow to your complimentary shuttle bus. Amazing service worth every penny. I’ll be back for sure!

Spacious rooms with onsen tub on deck that is incredible. Loved the supplied clothing and the atmosphere that created. Room was well equipped and very comfortable. The buffet restaurant was amazing and even better when not busy. Staff was very helpful and a short fully indoors walk to family mart was very convenient. Beautiful hotel with a grand porch. 2 big doors lead to the lobby. Lobby is spacious and rest of hotel is small. Only one dining restaurant that served breakfast & kaiseki/buffet dinner. Guests who have chosen shabu shabu dinner will have to take hotel shuttle bus to another building. There are some free japanese tea & ice cream available all day long for guests. Can also enjoy free performances at night at the lobby.

Beautiful hotel with great onsen. Very clean. Unlimited ice cream. Buffet was delicious. Some sewage smell in some parts towards the garden. Limited transpo, need shuttle or cab to get to hotel from the train station. No shuttle for like 2 hours as they take lunch. Otherwise it’s every 20 mins. I didn’t know why I needed to pay additional 300 yen at checkout. It wasn’t explained to me and the lady just punch everything in Japanese

Beautiful gardens and onsens. Reserve a room with a private Onsen soaking tub on your balcony, it’s wonderful. Staff were incredible. Room available for early check in at 1pm. VIP Expedia amenity was executive lounge invitation from 4-10pm with beverage bar, antipasto, snacks, desserts. Onsen floors alternate daily for men/women. Be sure to see both views which are beautiful! Great skin care products.

This property is absolutely incredible. The view alone is so soothing, but the highlight - hands down — is the hot spring bath (onsen). Please, do not miss it. Yes, you have to go in naked, but it's truly worth getting over any Western discomfort. The experience is surreal. They alternate floors daily between men and women, so you get to enjoy both the waterfall view and mountain view. And when I say waterfall view, I mean you are literally at the foot of a waterfall — it's breathtaking. Everything about the bath experience is 5 stars: the variety of hot and cold pools, the traditional Japanese showers, and the gorgeous vanity areas stocked with every skincare product you could ever need. Guests are also encouraged to wear traditional Japanese robes (yukata) during their stay, which instantly sets the tone and puts you in a peaceful, zen-like state. Pro tip: Book the dinner buffet in advance along with your room — it's half the price compared to purchasing it on-site. Both the dinner and breakfast buffets were excellent, with a wide and delicious variety. Guests staying at TenYu also get free access to the amusement park and water park in the adjacent hotel, connected by a tunnel. It's perfect for families! Although there's a full pool and water park, my kids surprisingly preferred the serenity of the hot springs. It was all so enjoyable that our 2-night stay magically extended to 3 and we’re coming back tmw to end our month trip with 3 more days there.

There were some dirty spots in the room.. and hotel charged me rate for 2 people even though I showed up as 1. It was my mistake but it would be nice to put me in a nicer room given they went ahead charge 2 meals for 1 person. Amenities were not that impressive either. Won’t be coming back.

We experienced cockroach on the food (the condiments) during dining. We changed to another table and saw another cockroach crawling on the floor. I can imagine there were many crawling around the restaurant. Totally unacceptable for such a premium hotel !! Will not recommend anyone to this hotel. High potential for food poisoning.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Hakone Kowakien TEN-YU and left feeling thoroughly satisfied with the overall experience. We stayed for three days and two nights on a half-board basis, and both dinner and breakfast consistently exceeded expectations. The traditional Japanese kaiseki dinner was beautifully presented and thoughtfully prepared, and the hot pot experience was equally memorable. Each meal felt carefully curated rather than routine, which we greatly appreciated. One of the highlights was the sunrise onsen. There is something quite special about soaking in the open-air bath while watching the morning light unfold — it was genuinely breathtaking. Breakfast, too, was generous in variety and high in quality. If we were to mention one small point, it would concern the blackout curtains. As we were travelling with a young child, the room tended to become bright quite early in the morning, which occasionally meant an earlier start to the day than we might have hoped. A slightly more complete blackout arrangement would perhaps make the experience even more comfortable for families. That said, considering the price point, the standard of accommodation, dining and overall atmosphere represents remarkable value. We were sufficiently impressed that we have already arranged to return in November, which perhaps says more than anything else.

Embora tudo seja funcional, hotel tem sinais de idade nas instalações. O café da manhã é ultra variado e com opções nobres, mas também é um tanto movimentado, padrão buffet de grande hotel, com muitas famílias. O quarto padrão Ryokan tem pouquíssimos móveis, o que deveria estar refletido em um preço menor. No geral, acho que não valeu o custo de mais de R$4000 a diária. Mas o hotel é bastante movimentado e tanto por japoneses como turistas internacionais.

Private hot tub / onsen was amazing. Definitely hot enough. And the view was amazing of the forest nearby. When i stayed it a different time, i had a view of the mountains which was also amazing. Great food options, endless snow crab legs for breakfast was a nice touch!

Overall it was a good stay. The onsen is amazing! Rooms are big and spacious, but furniture is showing signs of getting dated and in need of a refurbishing. Comfortable pillows and bed a little hard for my preference. We had for dinner the Luxury Kaiseki including 4 dishes, of which 2 were great (sashimi and sukiyaki) and 2 others I didn’t enjoy, although appearance was beautiful. The dinner included the sushi buffet, but our waiter didn’t explain that properly, so I found it out only at the end of the dinner and regret for not focusing more on it as the sushi options were great with lots of bluefin tuna. My major complain about the hotel is the lack of response to questions I sent for over 3 months through hotels.com tool and even direct email. They simply didn’t reply emails despite my several follow ups.

Overall the stay was great (Room was good and meals were good too) except for the payment part. Our family stayed for 3 nights and Hotels.com had charged us already for 1 night before the trip. So we should only pay for 2 nights at the hotel after our stay. But they charged us for 3 nights. The reception officer kept saying that we needed to pay for 3 nights. After trying to reason with him, I spoke to the manager, who confirmed we only needed to pay for 2 nights. There was no apology for the mistake and if I didn’t insist that they check again and again, we would have been billed for 3 nights.

施設内のスタッフさんはとても対応が良く、どの方も親切でまた宿泊したいと思いましたがシャトルバスの外国人スタッフの対応はとても悪く(日本人の方はとても親切でした。)不愉快でした。子どもやベビーカーなどがあり手間取っていたのですが不機嫌な感じで見られるだけで荷物の出し入れのサポートは一切なく後ろのお客様を待たせてしまい形見の狭い思いをしました。業務用内容としてはバスの送迎なのでしょうが、宿泊施設はホスピタリティーがとても重要になってくると思います。夫はバスの対応が悪かったので、バスには２度と乗りたくないと怒ってしまいました。せっかくの旅行なのに残念な気持ちになりました。外国人運転スタッフのホスピタリティーを育てるのは大変だと思いますので、せめて業務用内容に荷物サポートをプラスして教育して頂けたらと思いました。

This hotel is just stunning. I felt in a peaceful trance the whole time. The buffets are more traditional Japanese than catering to tourists and are delicious. The views are gorgeous. Gardens are beautiful. But the staff - the staff are incredible. Manager Moe Kitabyashi helped me for a long time transferring my lost luggage from osaka station to Tokyo. She was so patient and helpful and saved the day! Grateful. Go visit.

After spending a busy couple of days in Tokyo it was great just spending a day here. It really helped us relax and reset. Although isolated the beauty of nature is gorgeous and there are activities to do. It was great that the bus stop was near by as myself and my friend only brought carry on bags. From the moment we arrived to our departure the staff were really friendly. I would com back to this location in the future.

The location was great and higher up the mountain. Ten-Yu had their own shuttle bus from Gora Station so that was helpful. The breakfast and dinner buffet had a lot of variety! A surprise was the massage chair in the room which we fully took advantage of. We only stayed for one night but wish we did two nights to fully relax and enjoy all the amenities. Thank you Ten-Yu for a wonderful experience for our Anniversary Japan trip!

I stayed at Ten Yu and really enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere. The room was spacious and comfortable, with a lovely in-room tub that added a touch of luxury. The public onsen was beautiful and well-maintained—definitely one of the highlights of the stay. However, the hotel is quite far from the train station, which made getting there a bit inconvenient. Unfortunately, the food was also underwhelming and didn’t live up to expectations, especially given the overall quality of the property. It took me three me almost three hours from Tokyo and then more than three hours to go to Heneda airport. However, I don't feel sorry for the long travel time. The hotel itself is like a self-sufficient club with a lot of free services such as hot spring bath, various cold tea, warm rice wines, sparkling wines, snacks and even ice cream from vending machine for free. There are also live music in the evenings. I love its footpath facing the green hill slope. I guess there are more to enjoy inside the hotel. I love its buffet dinner. Very nice one. But if you don't have a really big stomach, you call choose other restaurants outside. But inside the restaurant for dinner, you could put on the relaxed traditional 'pyjama' which is allowed inside the hotel. You can dine like this only inside the hotel. The most unexpected finding for me is the Outdoor Open-air Museum near by. Nice walking of 30mins or by bus. A I spent an enjoyable day there. I bring home a lot of happy memory from this three-day stay with my wife.

This was a top-notch accommodation which exceeded all our expectations. The room was spacious and very comfortable. The dining options were spectacular. The attention to detail in the service and the range of complimentary snacks and drinks at the lobby were amazing as well. We especially loved the onsen, which was the highlight of our trip - the outdoor onsen with views of the garden lit up at night was simply bedazzling. The shuttle buses running to and fro Gora Station made transportation relatively accessible, and we found the location of the property quite central to the different spots we wanted to visit. In short, I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone looking for a fantastic stay in Hakone.

We loved this gorgeous, resort-like property in Hakone. The staff treated us with the utmost respect and kindness from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. Our room with the private onsen facing the mountains was no doubt the highlight of our trip and a much needed place for relaxation. The property has everything you could need, including free ice cream and drinks in the lobby, nightly live music/entertainment, and dining options. The location isn't super walkable or convenient to stores and restaurants, but this was just fine with us. There is an indoor tunnel connecting this property to another with a restaurant and convenience store which was nice to have. Amazing trip

Ten-yu is a gorgeous hotel to stay at. The rooms are immaculate, the mountain views are incredible with some of the most beautiful sunrises I’ve ever seen, the food was pretty good, and the onsens were amazing. Getting around to lake ashi or Hakone was extremely easy also using public bus system which stops right in front of the hotel

Would have expected a lot more for the price of this hotel. The rooms were nice and the onsen was great but the food was mediocre at best. They were very strict with reservations trying to force us to eat dinner at 5:15 pm each night. My partner also had the worst massage of his life. I would suggest that there are better options in the area that are more worth it.

This is an expensive hotel, and it is the food that makes it more expensive. With minimal options nearby, you are kind of destined to book the food options. We did not find the food options up to the standard of which we had paid. Some food was cold when it should be hot and food choices felt limited in some areas. This is buffet style dining. The free ice creams was brilliant though. And the onsen is the best onsen we have visited in Japan. the room was spacious and comfortable. We had a room with a private onsen, which to be honest is not necessary, because the main onsen is so amazing. The gardens are beautiful and the staff relly helpful, if maybe sometimes a little overbearing.
