M Montreal Hostel

Limited Parking Space, contact property before your checkin or you may have to park in a public parking lot (which also has limited spots available. Rooms were great and clean. The only inconvenience is that you need to checkin in order to get the hotels park key, which means that you have to find a parking space outside to temporarily park your car. It is a busy street, and the public parking spaces may not fit a big SUV. Checkin was fast and easy. Property has a bar downstairs with music and drinks, and many other amenities. Great place for people around their 21-35.

The amenities were great, I loved having coffee on the rooftop each morning. I didn’t try the hot tubs. The location was perfect for Jazzfest and exploring Old Montreal. There was full cleaning service each day and they did a great job. I shared a room with 5 other women and it was my first time using a hostel. The difficult part was that we all had different schedules, so I got in pretty late, but someone was still in after me and then someone else was up really early, and I didn’t sleep well through all of that. Everyone was trying to be respectful and quiet, but it’s hard when you’re in close quarters and everything is in suitcases with zippers and everything (I was also using earplugs). Due to different schedules we didn’t really have an issue with the one shared bathroom, and I think there are other bathrooms/showers we could use on the property. There was no mirror in the bathroom, I assume to encourage us not to linger in there, but that made things a little difficult. Otherwise everything was really good

This hostel was amazing! The two rooftop jacuzzis were really the highlight, but other amenities like the basement bar and onsite cafe were great too. Our private room was cozy with a comfortable bed and nice ensuite bathroom. It's also right next to the Village gay district with bars and restaurants.

Hot tub is great. $11.00 for a can of beer is a little steep. Good overall experience but no alcohol allowed on premises.

Excellent central location short walking distance to everything imaginable. Very clean, modern, safe, in-room bathroom and four showers in common area. Two large jacuzzis on rooftop. Very courteous and friendly staff. Will stay here again. Highly recommended.

Definitely my favourite hostel in Montreal so far. Summer months are best. The duffle bags with bedding and towel at check in is a nice touch to keep things clean and separate. Atmosphere is friendly and bubbly, with well thought out open spaces to relax. Staff are professional, responsive and helpful ( Thank you to the lovely security guys that tried to help me rescue my phone from the washer). Design of the hostel with glass around some of the original architecture was smartly done. The breakfast buffet (albeit at extra cost), jaccuzi and open patio, coin laundry, self serve kitchen, cafetria style dining areas, and club amenities are all great options for the incredible prices. The shared facilities and especially bathrooms are maintained, and provided privacy. And lastly, but more importantly, clear policy rules and social guidelines made my experience feel more at home. We rented a two king suite for one night. The room and building was beautiful, well kept and very well maintained. The staff were so kind and helpful, and the add on parking was very convenient. We walked to our event at Place des Arts very easily. It is most definitely on our list for return trips.

Very clean new and lively! Mostly english speakers. I’ll be back. The bar is fun and free things to do. Safe and new and clean. 500 beds. Great amenities in the pods. curtain, light, storage, outlet, side table, shoe area. Rooftop jacuzzi was amazing. Bring your own lock.

Très beau séjour. Tout était très propre et bien organisé. Parking un peu cher mais pratique : 23$ par nuit. A noter que le bain bouillonnant n'est pas accessible en dessous de -10°C

Room was a little dated a dirty. Good location.

This was the cleanest hostel room I've ever stayed at. I slept in a six bed room, which included one bathroom with a shower as well as a desk. Everything was functional. Each bed had curtains, a cubby, power plugs that worked, lockers, a light, even a rack to hang clothes. The bunk beds were nice and didn't creak. There are additional showers on each floor but I couldn't find additional toilets which is unfortunate. It is a big hostel and as such it's not quite as easy to meet new people as other hostels. I appreciate they have some day activities to help with that. The bar downstairs is a nice space, and it is the place that I would run into people. The rooftop jacuzzi was neat. We couldn't totally figure out how it worked but it was functional. Nice way to relax after a lot of walking. In addition, there is a large kitchen and dining area, an area that seems to be catered towards people who want to work on a laptop, and at the end of the lobby is another mini-kitchen with a place that sells breakfast, and seating area. Overall I liked my time in this hostel as a home base for exploring Montreal!

I had an amazing stay here! The room was extremely clean and I slept well each night!

There was constant loud noise after 10am, which sounded like cleaning and heavy traffic. This made it impossible to sleep late. I also had to kill a large insect in the bathroom

Montreal is truly an amazing Hostel. Actually feels and looks more like an Hotel which is a great thing. The Staff are all welcoming, genuine, and helpful. The Hostel and our room was exceptionally clean and organized. We will certainly look forward to staying here again.

The Good: For the hostel, service was definitely feeling like a typical 3- to 4-star hotel stay with vibrant and clean facilities as well as awesome, well-informed staff on trends and events in the area and meeting new guests you bunk with in the hostel. Definitely a big 5/5 up for the cleanliness of personal linens. Remember travellers! Unless you are booking private rooms (which cost more), you as a hostel guest are responsible for returning your own linens and towels at the reception as an additional (refundable) deposit charge will be made on your credit card on check-in! You as a hostel guest are responsible for exchanging dirty towel or linens for clean ones at the front desk. The "could improve" points: The cleanliness and property is generally well maintained, and every effort was made by staff to maintain cleanliness and staff was pleasant enough to exchange my bath towels daily. But some things, espeically the shared resources such as the washroom towellette in the room near the shower was a bit soiled (hasn't been changed in few days), and in the cafe some cushion seats and decorations appeared worn or ripped. The bad (not fault of hostel, but still 4/5): The neighbourhood at the M is in the Gay Village and a vibrant community with events almost every week! However, there are a few undesirables wandering about but generally won't bother you, but please do not leave anything unattended such as bicycles or other things unsecured outside the property!

This is one of the best hostels I have been, the hotel is big, with multiple public areas, the staff is nice and helpful, the beds have curtains so feels private, the worst part is the big rooms with multiple people but that’s how is so cheap. The lasts days I decided to pay a bit more to stay in a 4 bed room. Later I learned that the A/C was failing in that room, the staff tried but couldn’t fix it, so they put a fan, that is not enough in summer, so I asked for a change and only the big rooms were available. I accepted as I got a refund for the extra price of the 4 bed.

I was very happy to find this hostel, and stay in a 4 person room. It’s by far the cleanest hostel I’ve ever stayed in. I made friends with my roommates, and there was a good beer selection in the bar downstairs. The rooftop was a great place to chill, although there is not much shade up there. I left a lower star rating because I didn’t sleep well there. Quiet hours are supposed to be 11-11 i believe, but there were kids screaming and running around the halls well past 12 and at 7 am. I called the desk at night and it seemed to quiet down after that, but it started up in the morning again. I think the staff should be more proactive about enforcing the quiet hours so that a good time could be had by all. Overall, a good place to stay at a reasonable rate, and i would stay there again.

stated we had a balcony, however there’s no access, they’re kept locked. They offer some excuse about being a community and respecting other properties in the area but they seem to be the only ones respecting this, other properties were passing freely to their balconies. Community oriented, they wouldn’t even allow the gentleman from a local take out past the desk with our delivery. Which they didn’t even bother to call and let us know it was there, the take out place did. Otherwise our food would apparently have just sat there. No guests allowed in our room. I was visiting family who live on the West Island, a 20-30 min drive. We flew to Montreal, hoping we’d have them for a drink/apps before or dessert after dinner. It was embarrassing, like I was staying in some college dorm. I’ve stayed at this hotel numerous times in the past and was looking forward to my stay again, but the changes they’ve implemented are so restrictive I felt like I was not a paying guest but more like they were doing us a favour allowing us to stay there. Weren’t allowed towels when we asked in passing by front desk, we needed the dirty ones to exchange. Our room had a full kitchen, they only clean the rooms every 3 days, called for a broom to sweep up, which I had to go down for. Is this a hotel or have I been misguided. If I wanted to make my own bed, I’d have stayed home. Also $19/night payment for cancellation insurance? If weather disrupts plans,expect no refund without it.

The beds are very well designed, providing privacy and comfort. The shelves and hangers next to the bed are very thoughtfully placed. It was one of the most comfortable hostel stays I've ever had. The rooftop was also amazing.

Very good price for a double bed room - complete with kitchen, stovetop with general culinaria, including proper full size fridge and good bathroom - spacious and clean - good coffee pods (lavazza) and coffee maker in the room too. Great location in the village overall

Perfeito para uma viagem de 3 dias em Montreal! Localizado pertinho do metrô e 15 minutos a pé do Old Montreal. Eu recomendo. Tudo limpo, novo e os recepcionistas me trataram muito bem. O colchão poderia ser um pouco menos rígido. Há pessoas q gostam porém eu prefiro um colchão mais macio.

You might as well pay for a single hotel room or Airbnb room in a shared house for this price. The cleanliness, beds, and bathrooms were all of fair quality, but not worth $150/night including all fees. The desk staff were extremely un-accommodating when an issue with my credit card arose. Instead of waiting a couple of days for the issue to be resolved, or taking cash or debit as a security deposit, they made me buy a pre-paid visa for an additional $6. For this price, save yourself the trouble and stay somewhere with customer service.

The manager of this hotel-hostel and the new supervisor (2 corrupted women) are just NOT backing you at all if you complaint about customers not respecting the rules of this hotel-hostel. They just don't care about those who complaint against bad customers. They will even ban you. 2 terrible ans shamefull managers who must be fired ASAP by the owner. If you wish to be respected in dorms there, DO NOT GO TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT... L'auberge de jeunesse est très beau et propre. Par contre, j'ai eu beaucoup de soucis avec le service à la clientèle. Je ne suis pas une personne difficile habituellement mais le check in a été extrêmement compliqué. Vous devez payer leur parking avant votre check in pour des frais de 30$/nuit ce qui est exorbitant. Arrivée sur place, on vous demande un dépôt de 50$ et de faire votre propre lit. Si vous oubliez de mettre des draps dans leur sac on ne vous rembourse pas. On a failli me refuser l'entrée car je n'avais qu'une carte de crédit paypass sur mon téléphone. Après un bon 15 minutes d'attente, on m'a fait payé avec une machine. Le prix du déjeuner est excellent 9,14$ mais n'oubliez pas de demander votre petite carte sinon vous devez payer à nouveau.

This was my first time staying at a hostel and I had a blast. The staff was incredibly polite and friendly, the rooms were cleaned every day and kept in pristine condition. The common areas (kitchen, lounge, bar??) were huge, well designed, organized, and clean. Everyone was polite and friendly. Will definitely be coming back! The location was also great, fast food, restaurants, Dollarama, shoppers, all <5min walk, likewise the metro station berri-uqam so I could quickly get anywhere else in the city. Even in the snow storm I happened to be visiting during, I was able to quickly grab things from nearby!

The M is absolutely the best vacationing spot for individuals and friends! The property itself was always clean and their maintenance crew are super friendly. The rooftop lounge was absolutely beautiful and relaxing, too. The M is located in the perfect area for walking around downtown Montréal. I traveled solo for the first time, and The M makes sure to include their guests in their daily/nightly activities. I stayed in an all-girls dorm and it did not feel crowded. The staff there are also incredibly helpful and friendly. If you ever go to the bar, Ian will welcome you immediately! I will most definitely be staying here again when I return!

The property was clean with activities. I stayed for one night but I was convinced that staying longer would be worth my while. Hotel rules are very strict and I was caught off guard when asked to exchange my ID to borrow an iron. Rules are fair but be understanding so it doesn't derail your perspective of stay. I didn't like waking up at 1 o'clock in the morning to inappropriate banter outside my window.

Amazing desk staff - very nice, energetic, caring and helpful! Property was fantastic, clean, very nice room. The area around the hotel, like many inner city areas is rife with homelessness and drug use - many addicts using in the alley beside/across from the hotel, some yelling (a bit of screaming) and some noisy neighbours adjacent to the hotel. Not the hotels fault at all, just sad to see that there are so many people suffering in Montreal. If you're reading this review, look at the date - Montreal is a big mess of major road construction projects! We would not go back it was that bad trying to get around by bike/transit (Metro of course unaffected). And if you do go...we loved the Saigon Cafe (right across the road) and Red Tiger for dinner!

Clean and well maintained spot close to old port

First of all: Great location, considering the walking distance of approx. 20 mins to the buzz of the city and the nearby bus no. 747 going straight from/to the airport - but be aware, the neighborhood is a bit edgy and lost, especially in the dark hours when homeless and drug addicted people take over. The hostel itself is safe and clean, but misses a welcoming or warm touch, as everyone seems to follow his/her business. This means on the other hand: No parties going on, you will also have a good rest in the dorms. In sumption: If you get a good rate, go for this place!

First stay in a hostel style lodging and it was superb. Quiet, clean, beautifully appointed bunks. Hosts were lovely. Many breakfast choices at affordable prices- I had the best Americano here! Lots to do if you so choose. Would definitely stay here again in a heartbeat. Excellent location right near Ste. Catherine and all it offers.
